This restaurant replaced what was formerly Siam Queen. It's a nice change! The decor was revamped and looks brighter, warm and welcoming. There is now a bar with bar stools that's inviting. We were seated right away and the server was friendly & helpful. The menu has a lot of various dishes but we were here to try our staple thai dishes. We had Pad Thai, Panang Curry, Tom Yum Soup and the Sweet Roti for dessert. All these dishes were absolutely delicious! Perfectly flavored and well balanced. And the spice levels we requested for each dish were right on point to our liking. The Sweet Roti was new to us and it was the perfect end to our delicious meal. It was crispy with cinnamon dusting and drizzled with condensed milk. Delicious! Although we were sad that Siam Queen was gone, it was replaced with something more delightful! Some friends of ours ate here recently, and suggested that we join them for lunch to try to actual authentic Thai food. My wife and I have been searching North County for years for same, to no avail - so we readily accepted. We arrived a few minutes before 1pm - and our first thought was - what a strange location. About a block off of Carlsbad Village Drive, but nothing else really around to drive foot traffic. Our second thought was - ok, where's the entrance? We did a complete loop before finding it, and headed upstairs to the restaurant. And our third thought was - where IS everyone? Total ghost town - and to be honest, at that point, I was pretty sure that this was yet another poor attempt at an authentic Thai restaurant. And - I was wrong. Our friends arrived shortly, and we sat down and perused the menu - even though we all kinda knew what we wanted, we wanted to see what else was out there - and good thing we did, as my wife changed her mind and went with Pumpkin Curry. I, being a total creature of habit, went with Yellow Chicken Curry with no onion - and an appetizer of Chicken Satay. Our friends ordered also, starting with Drunken noodles, another Yellow Curry (with tofu), and Rad Na (pork version). Let me interrupt this with a quick aside - the waitress was absolutely wonderful during the order process. For each entree, she specifically asked the spice level (1-10), and delivered somewhat accordingly. The food started arriving shortly thereafter - and there was a LOT of food arriving! The only nit I had was that, in my demented brain, appetizers show up before the main course. In this case, everything arrived together. That said, the main courses were incredible (and again, HUGE). While I would submit that while I asked for a spice level of 10, I got more of a 4 or 5, but when Thais see blonde hair blued eyed white guys, they tend to assume (usually correctly) that they have no idea what they're asking for. In my case, they were wrong. No biggie, I'm used to it, and next time, will definitely up the ante on the spice issue. My wife LOVED her Pumpkin Curry, and our friends enjoyed their meals as well. They pretty much finished off the Drunken Noodles, so clearly that was a hit. The only other nit that I ran into was the Chicken Satay. These things were HUGE - so much so that I could cut them in half along the length, and make a huge chicken sandwich. I've never seen it done this way - but my wife and I split one and took the rest home - that's how huge they were. The peanut sauce was amazing, as was the Thai Cucumber Salad (actually one of the better ones I've had - in California OR Thailand - it was that good). Bottom line, a worthy discovery, AND they use Door Dash - so we'll be eating Aroi Thai - Carlsbad quite a bit going forward - actually real Thai in North County....outstanding!!! read more

Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try since I was up in Carlsbad and it's rare that I'm in the area so I wanted to try something in the neighborhood. This place was located right off the freeway and connected to another Mexican restaurant but they were the only building that was connected with their own lot and kind of rundown like old and dirty which reminded me of Old Town so I'm not sure if that look/feel was intentional since they are the only building there. Inside was still old and rundown but did have a modern feel with the bar seatings and lemon decor. I went in during lunch hours 12pm. There was only 1 host who was also the waiter and server who took care of 3-4 tables at the same time including mine. She did a good job at juggling all tables and came by often enough. Now with the food wait times it seemed like there was only 1 person in the kitchen as well since it took quite awhile for all the foods to come out. It took about 30 minutes after ordering since all 3 tables ordered at the same time. *Beef Boat Noodles - these were just okay. You have the option of choosing veggies/tofu, chicken, or beef. The beef didn't come with all the things I'm used to in boat noodles such as tripe, tendon, different cuts of braised beef, water spinach, or Chinese broccoli. It didn't even seem like blood was added either. It only came with 2 meatballs and beef slices that weren't tender and could have been cut smaller too. They need to add more different cuts of meats and other things to it. It tasted like Pho Lao. *Crying Tiger Salad - was okay as well. The flavoring was there but it wasn't tossed correctly since the toasted rice powder stayed on top of the meat. Also the meat was too overcooked so it was chewy and it also could've been cut smaller. They were thick big chewy pieces. *Thum Lao Style - not bad! I was expecting it to still be more on the bland Thai style but it was actually pretty good and sour the way I like it. It was still light in color meaning they didn't add crab paste for the dark coloring or shrimp paste. They did add pickled crabs though and it was pretty good and spicy. I also like how they "fauk"/chopped the papaya too instead of shredding so good job on that! *Khao Pad Naem - this was my mom's so I didn't try it. She said it was a bit salty but I'm assuming because of the protein she got which was the sour fermented pork which is the naem. It looked good though with the way they fried the egg. read more

This place is a little tucked away Thai spot in Carlsbad. An easy miss if you drive through Carlsbad village area. Just about a mile or two inland from the main village hub. The pros: There is abundant parking as they have their own parking lot next to the business. The inside was nicely decorated with plant decor and small lights for ambiance. We ordered the chicken pad see ew and drunken noodles which had great flavor in every bite. They offer different spice options and we ended up going about medium on the spice scale which is just enough. If you can't handle that much spice or your tolerance is lower, I'd recommend going more mild. We also ordered Thai boba tea which was very tasty and refreshing. They also offer take out here which you can pick up inside at the cash register. The cons: Although abundant, the parking lot seemed a little run down. Went on a Saturday evening and there wasn't a ton of people, maybe like 2 families plus ourselves. We were able to seat ourselves where we wanted so naturally, service should be pretty fast, but was kind of slow. The food portions were a bit smaller compared to the price. Each dish was about $20 and it felt like a little more than an appetizer. Verdict: This is a great Thai spot if you're looking for something different in Carlsbad as this type of food seems slim in this area. I'd recommend coming here if you are a fan of the cuisine but I would probably find another Thai spot to try over coming back here any time soon. read more

AROI THAI I was heavily craving for Thai food and my boyfriend and i were in the Area of Carlsbad, so we wanted to try this spot! It looks delicious, very homey, and a pretty good area. The parking lot itself was a bit odd, some graffiti, and the place's name was on a banner, the spot itself was above a floor, so it was a bit of a creepy walk inside up the stairs until the restaurant. No one was at the front, so we had to wait for a couple minutes, but a nice lady came to allow us to sit anywhere we wanted. It felt like a family restaurant kind of. It took a while to get our order in and the food, but once it came out, it was delicious and full of flavor! I really enjoyed getting the pad see ew, however, portion wasn't a lot for it being $19, and it was pretty oily. But what I really liked was the ambiance of the place, and how bright it was. We also got a thai tea which was overly sweet, but it was still your average tea. Overall, I'd come back to this place, but for take out rather than dining in as it took a while to get service. read more

Ordered here through Grubhub because it stated there were some vegan options. We ordered tofu spring rolls, fried tofu appetizer, side of jasmine rice, Thai fried rice, spicy basil, pineapple curry, and phad Thai. I put under every item, "Vegan please" and yet our phad Thai arrived with egg in it. The curry also tasted a bit fishy to me. Sadly, I don't think I'll be ordering from here again. I feel as though people don't understand what vegan is sadly. I received a phone call from the manager who offered to remake my dish next time I am in the area but I just don't think I will return based on this experience. She also informed me that the curries cannot be made vegan because they use a shrimp paste. While I'm glad it confirmed my suspicion, I'm hoping the few bites I took won't make me sick. read more

When we saw that there was Thai food , we switched and had Thai instead. The place is small , clean , cozy. It wasn't busy at all , one other family was leaving as we came in. We had the place to ourselves. Our server was great! She checked on us often and refilled our waters without having to ask. I ordered the drunken noodles , wife ordered the Tom Yum soup , son ordered their orange chicken, and daughter had shrimp pad Thai. All the dishes were great. ! The portions were huge. When I was out in Carlsbad for work, I decided to stop by here with some friends before I headed back home. This location can be easily missed as it shares the location with a Mexican restaurant. You have to walk up a flight of stairs to make it inside. They have a private room for karaoke or for small groups. There's fake floral sunflowers everywhere for decor. Ate there for my first time today for lunch the restaurant was absolutely empty. Should've been clue number one. We ordered a pending curry entrée spring roll appetizer and drunken noodle entrée. I also ordered a Thai iced tea when I asked a little bit more coconut milk in my Thai in my Thai iced tea, she explained they don't use coconut milk. They use regular milk. I asked if she could please put coconut milk in it and she said no it was literally the worst iced tea I've ever drank. The drunken noodles were bland and lacked flavor. Curry looked like the cream split. It was completely unappetizing. Maybe it's because they are new or maybe they don't know how to make good food. And when I was ordering, the server helped me choose the correct dishes when I was confused about two similar choices. The only reasons I gave the place 4 stars are: 1) It is on the 2nd floor of a building that didn't seem very clean (smelled like urine when I stepped through the threshold, which isn't the restaurant's fault). 2) The portions were a bit smaller than expected. I had just been to another Thai place and was able to eat those leftovers for a couple days, so I naturally compared Aroi with that establishment. I chose Arroi Thai for my mom's birthday dinner becuase she wanted Thai food, and the reviews looked promising. I placed a large to-go order that morning to be ready by 5:40PM, and Arroi Thai did an amazing job having it ready on time! On top of the good service, the food was SO good and very reasonably priced. I love all of the options available for proteins. We got Pad See Ew with chicken and one vegan style (fried tofu and no egg), 3 Pad Thais (beef, chicken, fried tofu no egg), 3 panang curries (chicken, beef, and fried tofu), and 1 thai fried rice (vegan style with fried tofu). I am not sure if their food has any fish sauce or paste, so I had to specify to not have any seafood because my cousin is severely allergic, and she did not react to any of the food.
