Took 1 hour 10 minutes (I live 5-8 minutes away), charged me an astronomical amount (26$ which was mostly Door dash garbage charges), received my order which was a simple teriyaki salmon, but came with no rice. They're sent me 5-7 small pieces of salmon with some cabbage. No rice. For 26$. Called them who said I had to go thru Door dash, even tho it was the restaurant screw up, and gave me no other option. The chicken teriyaki is made differently but healthier with no skin. I wished there were more teriyaki sauce it as chicken was a bit dry. We have been going here for years and have had good take away. Last night I ordered threw door dash (because I didn't want to pick up) the hot food came very cold. I mean the gyoza came very cold. They changed a bit over the years, got better and more focused, no more slacking and do the "close enough" attitude. Taste is pretty close to actual proper Japan restaurant now, compare to the 2/5 score. Fish is properly prepared and handled, platting is a bit lacking, but I can see the heart in it. Service, cleanliness, attitude definitely is up there. I would suggest this restaurant to my friends and tell them to come and try. I write reviews for places I love and places I really, really wish I never tried. I don't love this place. I wanted to write this review while I was eating - it was that bad. We ordered take out. My son is allergic to sesame. We ordered Yaki Udon and my wife explicitly said no sesame. And reiterated that fact again at the end of the call...again, no sesame please. Guess what was on our yaki udon when I got home. I called them up to complain and they were understanding and gave me a store credit for a free yaki udon under my (first) name. I'll never use it. And here's why. We ordered $40+ dollars worth of food. It was worth about $12. The chopped scallop and dynamite rolls were apparently decent - so I'll give them that. I ordered a dragon roll - that was far from good. It was a hot roll with raw fish on it. You know...real Japanese places know better than to do that for sanitary and safety reasons. Gimmick joints like this don't care. I ordered chicken karage - and you can see the chunks of white flour batter hardened onto the chicken after deep frying. I ate half of that and wanted to take a shower after. And the absolute WORST of it was the agedashi tofu. I've had superb agedashi tofu and I've had terrible ones...this was the absolute worst thing I've ever ate, tofu or otherwise. I took a bite of it and the tofu tasted like plastic. The batter on it was thick and the sauce was sour. It was so bad, I took a picture of it and I cringe every time I think of it. Price wise - all that was for $43 and change. Far too expensive for what it was. The udon was half decent though (for us to consume). We had to prep a side meal for my son. I've all but given up on non-Japanese owned and operated Japanese restaurants. They flat out do not do it right. It's a blatant exploitation on the profit margins to be made on Japanese cuisine without any effort in understanding the essence of Japanese cuisine. If they even tried - read a book on Japanese food, anything, it might be half decent. Instead, they use terrible ingredients to try to mimic the look of it and it tastes exactly like their efforts. I apologize if this seems harsh - I rarely am. But I am rarely ever this displeased with any food I purchase. The unfortunate thing - they're in a fairly common location and will get traffic. People who aren't familiar with really good Japanese cuisine will think this is decent (or hopefully not) and may mistake this for actual Japanese cuisine. Don't be fooled. I didn't use door dash because the restaurant was right down stairs from us, which turned out delivery from door dash would be so much more cheaper! I ordered a BC Roll and a Veggie Roll. They were both very good and had 8-pieces each. The salmon skin was very crispy and flavourful. It could have had a little more sauce on it, but it still tasted great. The veggie roll had carrots, cucumber, and gome-ae inside it. It was moist and the veggies had a great texture. 2.5 stars is more accurate because it wassnt horrible but I've had my fair share of sushi and this was weird... I came here because I had some time between appointments. I ordered Edamame, Spinach Gomae, plain sunomono and wanted to try this Jalapeño Bomb (appetizer) because it said it was filled with cream geese and spicy tuna which I love. Positive: the Edamame. It wassnt drenched in salt or overly cooked. They had some random server working who was a man ,(not Japanese) he was really nice. I think it might be his first job because I had to remind him of little things like napkins tea etc. But he was so sweet and I have a soft spot for people learning Negative: the jalapeño bombs tasted really fishy and I couldn't eat them. I wish Yelp did half stars too. I think it is a 3.5 stars in IMHO. I like this place but not sure if this is the best sushi place in South Surrey. I will probably try more places in the future but in the meantime, this seems like a pretty solid Japanese restaurant especially since this place is conveniently located inside Morgan crossing. There are about about 7-8 tables inside and it's clean inside. Most of the tables are two seaters so if you have a large party, you may want to make a res. beforehand especially if it is during meal times. The service was quick and prompt. They seated you right away and got you tea and the menu. When I ordered udon, they knew to give us an extra bowl with a spoon for my son. The food was pretty good too. One thing i noticed is that they don't use wild salmon for their regular salmon rolls which is a bit disappointing but I think they do have the wild salmon option at a higher price. Their nigiri is good. The fish is fresh and nicely portioned. The tempura udon was just okay. The tempura was nicely battered and crispy but the broth seemed little weak as in bland. But everyone has different preference when it comes to it so other people may enjoy it. I guess I expected little bit more since it is a Korean run restaurant. Given how much I rely on Yelp reviews to determine whether or not I'll eat at a particular restaurant, a person would think I'd be more on my game when it came to reviewing places... not the case. However, when I noticed today the poor ratings that Sushi Castle had, I had to put in my two cents. After living in Vancouver for almost 6 years, my hunny and I moved out to South Surrey to lessen the commute to work. I was more than open (and somewhat excited) to moving, but my first concern was literally finding good sushi out here after being spoiled by such great sushi restaurants in Vancouver (our absolute favorite was Temaki). I inquired with friends that already lived out here as well as went with Yelp recommendations for places out here, and honestly, they were just 'ok' in my books, and I wouldn't go back. Sushi Castle on the other hand... this place rocks my world! Their sushi is fresh and soooo delicious (everything from their specialty rolls to just their basic rolls are awesome). Prices are very fair, dinner boxes are beyond reasonable (less than $10!), and service has always been friendly - not outstanding, but friendly (if Yelp had half-stars, this is where I'd dock off a half-point and make it 4.5 stars). The place is small, but always clean and we never have to wait long for our food to arrive. This is ALWAYS our go-to when we have a hankering for sushi in South Surrey and it has yet to disappoint. read more

The main thing this place has going for itself is its quantity size. Order a roll and it's more than enough for a hungry college student to be full. They have a variety of options and they all seem decent. To my astonishment, the prices were pretty low. Miso was watered down could barely taste the soy and didn't taste any dashi Spinach Gomae was served with a sesame sauce instead of peanut sauce. A different but poor take on a classic. Ebi Sunomono watery as well had no vinegar flavour. Special house roll - special house sauce made this roll not so special sent it back California roll with salmon was the only item that was decent. A recently opened small Japanese restaurant located in the Morgan Crossing complex off of 24th Avenue and Croyden Dr. Decided to go there on this rainy evening in the lower mainland, for a small bite of sushi. I was worried that this would be the typical cookie cutter Japanese restaurant serving the same as all the other sushi restaurants that have come and gone in the past few years in this sushi boom of the West Coast, but I entered the restaurant and right away things started off great with a warm welcome from a young Japanese lady who acted as if she knew (she doesn't, by the way). I was told I could sit wherever I wanted, as it's a small restaurant with a completely open layout. One thing that irked me though walking to my table, was how frigid cold it was in the restaurant. It is around 8 degrees celsius and raining this evening. and actually some snow quickly made an appearance in down town Vancouver today, but the restaurant was easily a couple degrees colder, somewhere in the 6 to 7 degree range. Now I understand that raw fish is best friends with cold weather, but from all of my times in dozens of sushi restaurants around the Lower Mainland, this was by far the coldest air conditioned restaurant I have ever been in, Japanese or otherwise. Now I knew I wasn't just delusion in this fact, because the other restaurant patrons stayed bundled in their jackets the same way I had come to the conclusion I would have to. I imagine there is no way possible the place is always that cold, but this night it was certainly something that stood out from the normal. Alas I knew once I started on a bowl of miso soup, I'd warm up a tad, and sure enough later on I did post-Miso. I sat down, ordered a green tea, and quickly looked through the thin menu that was presented to me. One thing to note here restaurant owners, a Japanese menu could really benefit from some photography of the menu items. Now not that I need photographs of the items being a common Japanese food eater, but there were a few special rolls that I wouldn't mind a preview of before committing to. Ordered some edamame, miso soup, assorted sashimi, and a "chicken club roll". Pretty normal items, but the "chicken club roll" really piqued my interest and I was excited to try it - sounded very good on the menu. Chicken, asparagus, special house sauce, and avocado (in my head, I wish it had come with a bacon sauce of sorts to complete the Club sandwich experience, but that is getting really picky!). One thing that I quickly noticed was how inexpensive everything was. As a reviewer on UrbanSpoon wrote, the menu items were cheaper than some sushi assortments at the near by Thrifty Foods! $8 to $13 for an entire Dinner box is very much on the lower side of the normal pricing around South Surrey for similar items. I thought for a second I was looking at the lunch menu! They could easy raise the price one to two dollars and I am sure no one would complain or really even notice it if they hadn't seen the original prices. For a small restaurant, I would imagine they could do with a few extra dollars in their pockets. First to come was miso (which, actually, I couldn't find on the menu.. probably just a mistake that it was left of). Miso soup was quite normal, but it could have used small cubes of tofu to heighten the flavour and overall texture. Next up was a bowl of freshly steamed edamame with kosher salt on top. Was very impressed that it was fresh steamed (and due to that, WARM!). Too many items I have been to Japanese restaurants and they bring you a bowl of room temperature unsalted edamame, and I am left unimpressed at their lack of effort in trying to improve upon the most basic food offering possible. Edamame flavour with the kosher salt was great, and I could have easily eaten another bowl full. Arriving soon after to the table was the assorted sashimi - octopus, salmon, tuna, a white fish I am not familiar with, and I believe one other fish that I cannot recall at this time. All very good tasting, not near-frozen like some other Richmond mass-customer Japanese restaurants. The wasabi had a nice creamy texture to it, not the usual out of the tube kind. Highly recommend the assorted sashimi and in tandem any other sashimi they have. Last dish to arrive was my "Chicken Club Roll". Came laid out on a nice curvy long plate, drizzled with a sweet tasting, opaque maple-coloured sauce around the plate. Rather large pieces of cut roll, with a well cooked but not dry piece of chicken tender going through it. The chicken was juicy and warm, the asparagus was rich green in colour and crisp, and the avocado heightened the overall texture of the piece. The rice was as perfect as good sushi rice can be in my opinion. Highly recommend to all types of sushi fans. The tea kept coming, and the experience was solid. Definitely going back soon. Got dinged the bank withdrawal fee plus whatever bank fee I will need to pay. Then when I came back they said it was now working. After I asked for maybe a discount on my bill for the inconvenience the lady said no they don't offer discounts as the manager wasn't there today. When I asked for her name she said maybe she could give me a discount now.
