Pamir Martini
Jenna D.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars. Parking is in a big lot, and be sure to make a reservation. You walk in to warm, delicious, spiceful aromas and gorgeous décor. There are paintings, the walls are painted, lovely drapery, and the lighting is low (but not too low) to create an intimate atmosphere in what is actually a pretty good sized room with tall ceilings. Okay so - the eh part first - service is a tad slow. That's my biggest negative. But once you're seated, it's the friendliest service out there. They're kind, give great advice on dishes. They are pretty attentive when your food/drinks have dropped, but you probably won't be able to respond because your mouth will be full of tantalizing food or drinks. We ordered three drinks and three dishes, and were treated to a complimentary dessert since it was my birthday. We had a Pamir Martini, which is saffronny and strong, the shararah which is like a tequila mojito, and the chasm-e-pista, which is basically pistachio pudding flavor and delectable. For food, we did the banjan, lamb shank, and grilled spice chicken, and we tried both cumin and Afghan rice. The banjan with Afghan rice was my favorite, because a) I'm a sucker for eggplant, and b) it was phenomenal. To me, the Afghan rice is more interesting and tasty, but both are good. That being said, there wasn't a single bit leftover because the lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and the chicken was juicy and spicy. I will be going back often because I think this is my new favorite place, and I want to try everything on the menu.

This is my 3rd time in the restaurant but first time have a large group and we get to sit on the carpeted area on the floor. What a great experience. I personally love it but my husband was like a Humpty Dumpty. I have to say the server was excellent! She is very knowledgeable on every dish and was able to explain and accommodate all the guests diet restrictions. The display of the food is always so colourful that awes everyone on the table. Great place for party.

I've been wanting to try Afghan Kitchen for a while now and we just happen to be in the area so we thought we'd take the chance to try it out. It is so beautiful on the inside and it just feels so welcoming (and has a home feeling). Absolutely gorgeous on the layout and decorations. As for the menu, i am amazed at the variety of foods and the number of items they have on their menu. I love that they have GF and Vegan options available as well. Due to my dairy-free dietary issue, this really helps. I generally love Afghan food so this was a real treat to try out. The portion of the dish we got was actually pretty good and enough for two people. I wasn't a fan of the service. The staff weren't rude or anything - they were friendly and lovely. Just felt they weren't as welcoming compared to the staff at their second restaurant (Zarak on main at in Vancouver). Overall it was a good experience.

Beautiful place and food.

Everything here was top tier! The service was excellent. The appetizer was hot and crispy and delicious. The beef kabobs and the sides were pure heaven. Did I mention the secret cake!! It was everything I thought it would be. I am in love with all the flavors and textures of this food. First time eating Afghan food and it is officially a favorite new food. The ambiance was modern, classy, and clean. Great vide. All staff were terrific. I will definitely come back again before I go back to Cali.

All I can say is WOW. Wanted to find a good restaurant not too far from the border coming from Seattle, this place was worth every penny. A lot of restaurants nowadays put so much focus into the ambiance and fall short when it comes to food taste/quality. But not this establishment. The food was absolutely incredible and fresh. Dishes ordered: Afghan Nuggets, Bolani, Afghan Chicken, and a mixed assortment of skewers. My favorite was the Afghan Chicken. The only thing I would do different is maybe substitute the rice for some sort of bread. Don't get me wrong, the rice was so flavorful and prepared so well, just felt like dipping some bread into the sauce would have made it PERFECT. For the skewers, all were delicious except for the chicken. It was a bit dry, but again, still had tons of flavor which is why I am still giving 5 stars. Service was a bit slow, only two people serving at least 10-12 different tables. Both servers were super sweet and efficient, but of course, two people can only do so much. The only negative thing to point out is that the restrooms need a major upgrade. It is super outdated and almost feels like it's not the same restaurant.

What a fabulous experience eating at Afghan Kitchen! The food was amazing, the service was warm and personal, especially their knowledge of Gluten Free options for those of use with a food allergy. But the coup de grace was eating in their traditional room, where you have to leave your shoes outside! Such a cool vibe! A really wonderful time for my wife and I as we celebrated Mother's Day. The kebabs are so beautifully spiced, and the Afghan rice is a MUST HAVE! Add to that the tasty spinach side dish (which was a GF substitute, but I don't care if I missed out on the potatoes and eggplant!!), and this was an exceptional meal. We hope to bring our friends next time to help them experience this gem! NOTE... you are wise to make reservations, although we had a 15 minute wait... not bad at all!

The environment of this place is so cozy yet fashionable. I really loved the glass mosaic lamps. I really loved the carpeted, cushioned seating area where you and your party can sit on the comfy floor and experience a new way of taking in a meal. The servers were so kind and constantly checking in. The food was amazing. The vegetarian eggplant dish and the lamb kebabs were by far my favorite. The lamb was so succulent and tender and the sauces and rice were extremely complimentary. Great experience.

A family run restaurant with incredible flavours and a blend of spices for a worldly experience. For anyone looking for some unreal food, you gotta try their staple, the Afghan Chicken~ The Kebabs to their soups, nuggets to the Lamb Shoulder, chutney and sauces to mom's warm homemade bread to dip in all of it... just wow. You can tell the boys were raised right as their mom puts a ton of love into each plate on the menu. You get great helpings for the price, the environment is warm and true to the culture so much they've opened a second location in Vancouver. This place could host work parties, Xmas do's or anything you have... just call them. They also book on OpenTable. Happy staff, caring family and great food. Try it, you'll love it!

This place is located adjacent to the Canadian Superstore. Parking is easy to find. When we visited on a Sunday afternoon, we were promptly seated by the host and the waitress came over and took our order soon after. We tried the bolani and the lamb shank. The bolani was 3-stars for me since I found it to be a tad too greasy. Also, the filling of potatoes and spices were a bit underwhelming. The lamb shank, on the other hand, was spectacular. For drinks and dessert, we tried the chai tea and mom's secret (a cake reminiscent of tres leches), respectively. Both were delicious. In terms of ambiance, it was very unqiue and captivating. One thing of particular note is that the restaurant has large murals of Afghans going about their daily lives painted on the walls. I found it to be in stark contrast to the food was that consumed at the restaurant. It really serves as a reminder of how rich and fortunately our lives are compared to many others around the world.

A few of us came here for dinner. The place has a great ambience either for date nite or for a get together with friends & family. Their food was delish. Their menu was suitable for all types of diners including vegans, gluten-free, and meat eaters. They even had combo platters. A couple of us thoroughly enjoyed their 'fall off the bone' lamb. I don't even like lamb & it was mouth watering. We ordered the trio dip taster. A great way to sample their dips. We wanted to try everything! We ordered mocktails and dessert. Go for the dairy free pistachio gelato. I couldn't decide what to order and the server was helpful. I had the chicken kebab and found it slightly on the dry side. It gets busy so make sure reservations are recommended. They're located in a shopping plaza with ample free parking. They're in South Surrey but it's worth the drive. The prices are reasonable. Can't wait to be back.

We ordered a kebab meat platter and it definitely delivers on portion size. The standout for me was the grilled meats, especially the lamb chops and chicken kebabs. They were well-seasoned, nicely charred, and not dry (which is where a lot of places miss the mark). The rice was fragrant and paired well with everything, though pretty standard. Service was good. The atmosphere leans traditional and a bit dated, but it fits the vibe of the place. Overall: worth going for if you're craving grilled meats and a filling meal, just don't expect anything particularly refined. It's about comfort food and generous portions.

This was my first time visiting the restaurant, and the food and service were both excellent. Looking forward to my next return. My friend and I decided the Horseman Specialty Platter which serves 2 people. We started with the Humous (yellow split pea), Sabzi Mast (spinach & yogurt dip), pita bread and a salad with cucumbers, red onions, tomatoes and feta cheese. The platter was filled with a delicious rice, baked eggplant, potatoes and 3 meats (chicken kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab, Lamb Shoulder Chop). We couldn't finish as there was so much food, so took some home. We finished with Pistachio Ice Cream (pistachio, saffron & rosewater) and it was rich and delicate and a perfect ending. Once of the best I had in town. Décor is tradition and relaxing. You can ask for the traditional floor seating or table. Reservation recommended but was can early and they were able to accommodate us. Free mall complex parking but ensure you register. Many metered parking on the streets within 2-3 block radius. The #50 bus stopped right in front of the restaurant.

No other concern other than the road noise. We were a party of three - 2 adults and one 5-year old toddler. We ordered 4 things - 1. Mantu - very good but expensive for 4 dumplings 2, Chicken Shami Kebab - Comes with super soft buttery naan bread, Melt in the mouth kebabs and possibly the best kebab of my life. My son loved it and primarily ate most of it. 3. Uzbeki Palaw - Very good but the rice to meat ratio could be disappointing. 4. One cocktail and it was very good, very ethnically inspired. Everything was amazing. Portion sizes are small and we finished everything. Our server was so warm and advised visiting during brunch hours the next time to enjoy more kebabs given we likes it the best. Other tips! 1. Service is fairly quick. We were in and out within the hour. 2. There is street parking but finding a spot may still be challenging at any point. There is parking in the building but when we visited, the entrance to it was not working. 3. Reservations are highly recommended for weekends to be seated inside which is very chic and upscale. 4. Menu is pretty kid friendly food and none of the food was remotely spicy.

Some other favorites from our group was the fried Chicken, mandu, and the corn bread. The daily butter was fantastic. Finally, we got the vegan chocolate mousse, and we expected it to be kind of small but it was shareable between three people and it was delicious. Overall great experience!
