Holy HUGE amount of food! The five of us thought we had it -- we did not and had leftovers to eat for lunch the next day. So delicious, fresh, and an honestly immersive eating experience. The service was quick and efficient and everything felt just right in terms of decoration. Would definitely come back with more friends or family next time we're back in Richmond.

Beautiful Afghan restaurant facing the outside of Richmond Parking Market (towards Westminster). And I mean beautiful in more than one way. Parking is available in the RPM parkade attached to the main building. The inside is somewhat plain, but has lots of Afghan (Middle Eastern) decorations. Their display can almost serve as a museum exhibit. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My friends (4 adults, 1 kid) had the Family Combo. This thing comes with 3 vegetarian side dishes (decently large bowls), a stack of naan, a pile of rice (with secret hidden lamb chunks), and a meat platter consisting of skewers and other animal goodies. They do not skimp out on the portion size here. We just sat and stared in awe at the big beautiful steaming piles of food in front of us. As mentioned before, the large rice platter actually has chunks of lamb buried in the middle. Most other places would use other filler such as vegetables. Not here. I was ready to weep. Special mention. We also tried the bolani (stuff flat bread). This is like a flat version of a samosa. Super tasty. Also worth getting. Final bill was comparable to a pho dinner(!) for each person. Talk about crazy good value. My only recommendation is to come in a large group. They have other larger platters which can cover up to 11 people. Getting hungry just thinking about this review. Highly recommended.

Afghan Chopan is unexpectedly located at the Richmond public market but still popular amoung the neighbourhood. We tried the Mantu, chicken combo and Shami combo. Everything is reasonably priced and the combos came in big portions. The mantus were so flavourful and saucy. Out of the two combos I thought the chicken was slightly better. The chicken was soft and well seasoned. The rice with masala seasoning was delicious and I liked the addition of raisins and carrots on top of my rice. It also came with chutney/yogurt with veggies. I had so much food left over and I was excited to finish it up for lunch the next day. This place is very affordable and is a totally a hidden gem!

We though we are in Afghanistan! The food is delicious! Totally not expected to find such restaurant in Richmond and by the public market! Love the weekday lunch menu and we took the kids for a family menu in the weekend! Service is great. Ambiance is nothing special, but can you totally get the feeling of Arabic style, even with painting brought back from Afghanistan!

Solid food with great flavours. The chicken and steak were well seasoned and very tender. I enjoyed both dishes but for the price, i do wish that each one came with a bit more meat. Otherwise, we were satisfied with our meal.

Having lived in Afghanistan for ..... uh - not! Thought I'd try this joint to see what they offered & probably because I'll never visit Afghanistan. I was looking for & craving middle eastern food - which usually meant Shawarma chicken wraps & the like. This place is small - as in tiny! Definitely order to go due to very limited seating. However, the food quality & price made me go - WOW! We picked up our order of chicken & rice for our group of 6 & everyone loved it! There wasn't much left as we all chowed down at Kits Beach waiting for the fireworks. By the way it was an amazing display put on by the USA whom I believe recruited the Disneyland crew for production. The meal came with Naan bread but I really just prefer my chicken with rice. I tasted the bread though however & it was good. There's something about the taste of halal meat - it just tastes so good! I will have to go back sometime as I'm curious to know about the 'bakery' part of this place! AC does get my seal of approval - Get Here Now!

Tekka kebab set $12.95 for 3 beef skewers with salad, chutney and naan. Good, not great.

Nice place, good food, but nothing to get excited over. I got the tekka kebab set $12.95 for 3 beef skewers with salad, chutney and naan. Didn't think it was that great.

Meat is too small. Lunch special includes one skewer only..... No one will tell you this ..

Orderd a ground beef lunch special box. Server never told me it was one piece of skewer instead of 2. Not even the menu states you get one piece of skewer. I rather get it at daddy's grill on 5 and Cambie where the portion of the meat is double and size is way way bigger. Salad is sad as well. Very bland and rice is bland. Would not recommend it. Server was very rude as well.

I've been here probably almost 10 times! This place is an absolute gem. Located across from Richmond centre, it's a little store that most people might miss. I actually never noticed it until I saw it on Yelp! Onto the food - their food is fantastic! Fresh, flavourful, aromatic. Once you enter the store you smell something delicious. My favourite is probably the roast chicken. It is amazing. Tender, soft, and well seasoned with crispy skin, with moist afghan style rice, a flavourful cooked vegetable dish (it varies) and a crunchy salad on the side. There is just such a unique flavour that can't be recreated. Some items I would recommend would be the roast chicken, bolani (crispy fried pastry with potatoes and leeks !), and the shami kebab. I have yet to try the mantu but I am looking forward to it. They also have amazing deals for students - only $5 for a healthy meal!!!! I always come here and buy the student discount meals. The only downside is that the place is pretty small and there is limited seating. It can also get a bit hot or stuffy if you choose to dine in (during the summer) since there is no AC. Sometimes their portions can vary with how busy they are on that day. When they are busy I tend to get less food and when the store is almost empty I tend to get more. So choose the right time to go there!

Being Afghani, I am pretty picky on finding an authentic afghani restaurant. And this place is absolutely delicious. I've tried the chicken and the lamb, and every time, the meat is cooked and seasoned perfectly. The mantu is also a great appetizer. The aushak has more of an Italian flavor with the sauce they put on it for some reason. But overall, I highly recommend their food. This location is small, is good for takeout. Their new location down the street has restaurant seating if you're looking for a that.

I loved mixing the rice with the chutney - the flavours were amazing. We also upgraded our drink to an Iced Chai, and it was super refreshing and not overly sweet! We ordered a kebab meat platter and it definitely delivers on portion size. The standout for me was the grilled meats, especially the lamb chops and chicken kebabs. They were well-seasoned, nicely charred, and not dry (which is where a lot of places miss the mark). The rice was fragrant and paired well with everything, though pretty standard. Service was good. The atmosphere leans traditional and a bit dated, but it fits the vibe of the place. Overall: worth going for if you're craving grilled meats and a filling meal, just don't expect anything particularly refined. It's about comfort food and generous portions.

This was my first time visiting the restaurant, and the food and service were both excellent. Looking forward to my next return. My friend and I decided the Horseman Specialty Platter which serves 2 people. We started with the Humous (yellow split pea), Sabzi Mast (spinach & yogurt dip), pita bread and a salad with cucumbers, red onions, tomatoes and feta cheese. The platter was filled with a delicious rice, baked eggplant, potatoes and 3 meats (chicken kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab, Lamb Shoulder Chop). We couldn't finish as there was so much food, so took some home. We finished with Pistachio Ice Cream (pistachio, saffron & rosewater) and it was rich and delicate and a perfect ending. Once of the best I had in town. Décor is tradition and relaxing. You can ask for the traditional floor seating or table. Reservation recommended but was can early and they were able to accommodate us. Free mall complex parking but ensure you register. Many metered parking on the streets within 2-3 block radius. The #50 bus stopped right in front of the restaurant.
