Dodgy hygiene! Based on the 4+ stars on yelp, we decided to try Superba for the first time. As we stood in line, my wife noticed the cashier digging into a jar with his bare hand to retrieve an item to add to a customer's order and he then wiped his hand on the back if his neck. The sight of this made my wife want to leave immediately, so we did. A complete waste of time stopping at Superba since I was really hungry. We went to Tartine instead. Poor management and poor staff training; no second chances...they just lost a new customer, end of story. read more

Superba has been bookmarked for a while but i just got the opportunity to go this last weekend. for some reason, i thought it was going to be packed but it was nice and easy on a Saturday morning. Place is very open and bright. The menu is pretty minimal but REALLY hard to choose. Everything sounds really good. We ended up with the ricotta toast to share, my friend got the breakfast sandwich, and i got the soft egg toast. I can only speak for the soft egg toast and the ricotta - they are yummers!! and a lot more filling than you'd think! Theres also a large array of trendy coffees but we both stuck with drip coffees. A great place to meet up with some gals and catch up. Really relaxed speed and you don't feel rushed to leave. Also, nice array of baked goods that look OH SO tempting!! What a delight! I've passed this place a few times on the way to Pasadena and this time I told myself to stop by and grab some lunch (instead of eating the tired old food in Old Town). This place has their own parking lot which is great since the street parking in that area is not that great. They share their lot with Pitfire pizza. The cafe/restaurant is cute- it has an open airy space and they have seating both inside and outside. You order at the register and they will call your name when your food is ready. I ordered the Tuna Nicoise sandwich and an unsweetened iced tea. The Tuna Nicoise was quite filling- it had a lot of different pickled ingredients like cornichons, green beans and olives which I love- in addition it had fresh tomatoes and cucumber slices too. Let's say it was a bit messy to eat the sandwich because it was so thick and there were a lot of toppings that kept falling off every time I took a bite, but yum! The tuna itself also had potatoes mixed in it (much like a tuna nicoise) to add a bit more heartiness. I really enjoyed this sandwich. I wanted to order their freshly baked madeleines but I resisted because I didn't want to get too crazy. Next time I will come back to try their pastries and coffee as they had a nice selection. This coffee shop is great, nice, friendly neighborhood vibes in a busier part of Pasadena! Tbh I drank a little too much last night and woke up this morning EARLY for a Sunday and needed a breakfast burrito pretty quickly (we've all been there). We live in San Gabriel and this place looked the best on Yelp and also was open super early (another reason for my 5 star review). We got a cold brew, coffee, breakfast burrito, chocolate scone, croissant and a baguette. Their cold brew is so dense and in rich flavor, we both agree its the best we've had in a really long time, 5 stars for that. The 49th Parallel beans are always killer and Superbas blend is just perfect. The baguette is SO GOOD. Flaky and crunchy in all the right places. We will without a doubt be back for this, and again 5 stars. Pastries were tasty and we'd also get again. The breakfast burrito I think I'd give a 7/10. The cheese crust was a nice addition / novelty and we have wanted to try LowKey for awhile buuuuuuut for me, the cheese added too much saltiness. The avocado crema they give helped even this out but still, my hungover dry mouth was struggling through all the salt. I'd order the burrito again, sans cheese. Before heading over to St. Augustine Church (Culver City), I decided to hit up Superba first, which is located right next to Pitfire Pizza and right across from CVS on Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena. I figured a healthy, wholesome and meatless Thursday morning would be a great way to start off my day, and it certainly was! Parking: They have their own dedicated parking lot. You'll enter through Pitfire Pizza's driveway on Arroyo Parkway, but go to the left side to enter into Superba's parking lot. If it's packed, there's always street parking (watch out for signs). The Setup Order and pay at the counter. Once your order is ready, they will call out your name for pick up. Everything is self-served: utensils, assorted condiments, napkins and complimentary water. You may sit wherever you like - either indoors or outdoors. After you're done eating, you'll cleanup by yourself. Their huge cleanup cart in front of the dining room will have designated paper captions directing you on where to throw the trash away and where to put away dirty dishes and utensils. Here's what I got: Drink: $5.50 Golden Latte, yes! I arrived here cold, sleepy and with a mild case of stomach cramps. After having this delicious tumeric infused drink, I felt very soothed, awaken, warm and stomach cramps gone! Awesome drink, just wished it was a little thicker. Tasted a bit runny. Entree: $6 Avocado Toast: Delicious, healthy, wholesome and beautifully plated! At first, the Levain (sourdough) toast was hard to cut into. Luckily, biting into it was soft and with the greatest of ease. Topped with a thick spread of avocado, greens, sliced ninja radishes, pickled red onions and crunchy seeds, it started my morning off, great! Everything married well together and each bite had a bit of sweet, savory and tanginess to it. I would highly recommend getting this! Dessert: $5 Madeleines (12pcs). I love me some Madeleines, and this was the main reason that caught my attention to Superba in the first place. The mini Madeleines are adorable! Their shape reminds me of the Hong Kong egg waffle. Soft and slightly sweet on the inside with crispy edges on the outside, and dusted with powdered sugar, definitely A MUST GET and winner-winner!!! Service: My food and drink came out pretty fast. About 5mins after ordering. The staff here is nice and decent. Minimal interaction. Ambience and Decor: I dig the open airy feel to the place. Clean, modern and inviting. I enjoyed my time dining there and didn't felt rushed at all. There's only one restroom per sex. The Women's Restroom is clean and nicely maintained. Overall, I would definitely come back here again. I must say this is a cool spot for coffee and especially breakfast. Simple breakfast, but delicious. We had a breakfast burrito and sandwich both were very flavorful. Service was good. I love their fresh bread. Can't get decent bread at any of the main markets and those at Whole Foods suck since Amazon took over. The pastries are great too. I've had to leave several times because the choice of seating near open air is disgusting. I brought it up kindly to the manager 6 months ago and nothing has happened since. It's a shame as it is very unappetizing. They don't even wash them! They need to be replaced as they are completely stained and sun bleached. We love going to their location in Venice, but it would've been nice and we would visit far more often if Pasadena had a version like Venice. This morning I was in a breakfast mood and went with their take on french toast. The french toast in untraditional in a good way with it being a baked bread in a small cast iron pan and topped with caramelized apples. I then ordered a matcha tea to go with oat milk as I have a severe dairy allergy. They did not put oat milk and I had to give myself an epidural shot on the 110 this morning. I ordered the matcha and my husband got a Spanish latte, grilled cheese sandwich and their made to order madeleines. I wanted a hot matcha but they made it iced. They were happy to remake my drink for me. The grilled cheese was super cheesey which he really enjoyed. I was surprised at how tiny the madeleines were but they were tasty. I will be back to try other items. The patrons around me ordered burgers and salads and other breakfast items. Everything looked so good. There is a parking lot in the back. This has to be one of my favorite coffee shops in my area. I love this gem and I'm so glad I decided to stop by here today. I've lived in this area my whole life and this is the first time I've been here. Their coffee is fantastic! Not to mention their pastries their cookies, croissants, biscuits.... WOW. I haven't tried all of them yet but so far my favorite is their peanut butter rice crispy cookie. I can't leave this shop without getting one. Not sure if they sell it everyday but they've had it every time I I've stopped by. The cookie is just perfect. Chewy and crispy all at the same time. If you like the edges on your cookie crispy, then you will love their cookies. Their coffee is really good too. My favorite is their Spanish latte. It's not too sweet, but just sweet enough. Although Jason Neroni long ago left for Rose Café and James Trees came back to Las Vegas with Esther's Kitchen it was still with excitement that Superba Snacks + Coffee was visited in Pasadena, the Restaurant opened in September featuring an open air design similar to its Food + Bread siblings though the menu has been truncated significantly. Still something of a hidden gem, an address at 12 South Arroyo Parkway allowing for plenty of free parking with Pasadena's plethora of Craftsman-style homes not far off, guests entering the newest Superba will quickly find themselves face-to-face with a small stand offering menus and pre-order forms, a bar full of snacks oddly including Pringles behind it while the service counter resides right. Perhaps best thought of as a Bakery and Café, a rack of housemade Pastries on display with Salads, Sandwiches and more made-to-order from a small kitchen, it was after concocting a seven part order that tables were rearranged to accommodate five, first bites of a Pop Tart filled with pureed Pumpkin and Baking Spices a reminder of Thanksgiving just-passed while Superba's Kouign Amann reminisced of Carlos Enriquez's tenure as Pastry Chef thanks to intense caramelization and plenty of layers with a liquid Butter middle. Laid back and oh so California, almost every four-top occupied by parallel partners no longer eating but basking in the ambiance, it was with name called out from the counter that "Baked French Toast" was collected, the saturated Bread in cast-iron a far cry from what was once offered in El Segundo though still featuring quality ingredients while two Cookies both showed well, particularly one dubbed "Gran Fondo" that was built on a base of Oats and fortified with plenty of Butter, dried Fruit and Flax Seeds. Hoping to have saved the best for last, a pair of Croissants visually calling out from Baker's racks, it was beginning with the Sugar-coated Superba Churro that shattering shell led to honeycombing and light Horchata Cream, the follow-up Almond version unfortunately not executed nearly as well and frankly disastrous with an overly sweet interior and soggy bottom that eats as one might imagine a microwavable Frangipane Hot Pocket. read more

One of the cutest little cafes I've been to in Pasadena. Loved it here. For the pandemic, they expanded their seating from the patio to the parking lot a little bit, but there was still plenty of seating + parking spaces. I loved their location, it's not super busy but still a great place to chill and stop for coffee + a little snack. Pre-cooked! The glaze that came with on the side was equally incredible; sweet, cloves, maybe even some zest I tasted some orange maybe. I do not mind eating these leftovers for a week or so! So juicy my tummy is grumbling thinking about it haha - Mushroom & leek vegan stuffing: prob the best stuffing I've ever had!! Pleasantly surprised it had chunks of sweet potato in it too. So flavorful and perfect amount for up to 4 with their "small" portion. - Cheddar & chive biscuits: Also a hit! Gorgeous almost pastry in aesthetic and when warmed omg how did they manage to create something dense but fluffy at same time!? It was baked to perfection. Superba's atmosphere vibe is welcoming and very relaxing; interior is well conceived, organized, clean and spacious as well as the exterior patio. Moreover, the shop has large retractable open glass windows for fresh air ventilation and natural light. Free Wi-Fi available for customers. Food prices is relatively fair but I wish it match the serving. Staff are nice, competent and professional. Parking is available. They gave my order to the another person. I knew it too. I thought, Why are you getting your Avocado Toast before me when I ordered before you? That woman proceeded to eat my sandwich until hers came out, then took my literally half-eaten toast back and said, "I think I got the wrong one, sorry." I looked at her order and couldn't believe that that mistake was genuine. I got an Avocado Toast and she ordered the Soft Egg Tartine- uh, they look NOTHING alike. There's was no way she accidentally got the wrong thing. Additionally, it wasn't busy at all. So many employees standing around doing nothing with no one in line and no one but me, that person who stole my toast and her friend waiting for our orders. How did you manage to screw this up? I don't know why it takes so long to get your food. There were barely any customers there and so many employees. I ordered an AVOCADO TOAST. It's one slice of bread with raw avocado and a few raw leaves and 2 pieces of sliced ninja radish. They're not cooking or preparing anything and to make matters worse, I had to wait twice as long to get my food because of them giving my order to the wrong person. There was no attempt on their part to make up for that or even hurry up the order. My pregnant girlfriend got her salad so far ahead of my order and wouldn't eat it because she was waiting on my stupid toast to come out. Then when I finally got it, the toast was so tough, I couldn't even cut it with the knife. It was so hard to eat. My matcha was awful, completely watered down. It was so weak you could barely taste it. Also, if you're there for the 'Gram, prepare to be disappointed. They have those awful lights that shine down in the worst possible way for photography. They cast ugly shadows over everything. Forget about trying to do a flatlay shot. You're not going to get it indoors. This place was so frustrating. Overpriced and overrated. Had this a few times. One decent sized toast with butter sugar and cinnamon. Not expensive and tastes amazing. It's crack toast. Not that I've ever done crack. -breakfast sandwich: solid. Good fluffy bun. Bacon egg and cheese with greens. It's what you expect and want in a breakfast sammich. -grill cheese. I forget what cheese are in it, I know Havarti is one. I stopped in, early Sunday morning, for a breakfast sandwich. I have never been to this location. I have been to the Venice location. My first impression, the staff lady taking my order needed a sip of coffee, before taking my order, not professional at all. The most disgusting part was the tables and the stained seat cushions were covered in food debris and crumbs. They were too busy chit chatting to clean the tables, and it was not busy, at that time. There was a very wobbly table in one corner, which should be replaced or repaired. I feel that management needs to pay more attention to the presentation of their establishment. I will most likely not patronize this establishment ever. The food is ok. read more

New coffee place in town! Noticed this spot in the middle of chowing down a pizza next door at Pitfire. So BF and I came over to check it out. It's a very cute coffee shop w/ a small parking lot in the back. We ordered an ice latte, matcha latte, and fresh madelines. Madelines took some time to prepare, which I can understand since they were made to order. However they were a little small and only mediocre for the pretty penny that it costed. No complaints about the drinks, they were good. Although I'm not so sure it would live up to the standards of coffee snobs. You might want to go to Copa Vida or Jones Roasters for that... The biggest appeal to me of this place, was the ambiance of the shop. It was very comfortable, and cute. I love that superba opens in Pasadena! I used to visit it often when I lived close to Venice. This place is cool, with amble parking in the back. The food and drink quality is solid. They have delicious bakeries, quite a few items for breakfast and lunch. And they know about coffee! We had a breakfast sandwich, which was more like a burger. It was great flavor. And the ricotta toast was delicious with the fresh ricotta. I also like my gilbrator, which is a like a short latte. Pretty strong. Chai latte was good too, but I prefer the one from Copa Vida. Stumbled across this restaurant while on my work trip to pasadena. Lovely place& good food.

This is a hip, snack shop located off the busy street of Arroyo Parkway. Came here on a Wednesday around noon with a friend and the shop had a decent amount of people, but was not full. We had no wait-time and they have plenty parking lot in the back. The driveway to the parking lot is located between Superba and the neighboring Pitfire. The ricotta toast covered with marmalade and heapfuls of ricotta is delightful and sweet. It's a fairly decent-sized toast, so it's good for sharing. At first, it seemed underwhelming; but the more I ate it, the more I liked it! The ricotta feels buttery and the marmalade is delicious. The brioche doesn't feel fresh, but it's still good. It's good, but it's not my first pick for a snack. The frittata is a baked egg dish with spinach and herbs. It's served in an adorable small cast-iron pan, which is awesome! The flavor is ok; and the texture feels right. It's fairly cheesy, too. There's nothing necessarily wrong with it, but it doesn't feel like it stands out. I feel like it could use some more texture-ally interesting components (like crunchiness or moistness from more creme fraiche). The grain bowl was my favorite out of all the dishes. The dressings is perfectly balanced with seasoning. The brown rice and vegetables had great texture; and the greens are nice and crunchy. You don't get a lot, but I thought it was one of the better dishes. I would order this again if I were studying here. Service here is great; our cashier is super friendly and the food comes out fairly quickly. Remember to bus your own tables before leaving; they have a lot of signage to indicate where you should put your used dishes. The space is gorgeous with beautiful painted walls and nice open windows.
