A great coffee shop proves itself with a solid decaf, and their signature Rose Cream Top and Café de Olla will keep me coming back. The Highland Park location feels a bit sterile and minimalist. It can't compete with the Pasadena spot, which has a brewery, right smack in the middle of the room. What really stands out is their mission: helping formerly homeless and transitional-aged youth train as baristas. Because of that, I can give some grace, like when the cookie was sold to another customer after I'd already purchased it, without an apology or offer to replace it, (they did replace it after I asked). Still, I hope they continue developing their customer service, so it matches the quality of their drinks and pastries. Bonus points for the soundtrack. Any place playing everything from Samurai Champloo to Björk makes us Gen Xers happy. read more

From the front view, I wasn't guessing that the space was pretty huge. Plenty of seats and peaceful ambiance to get work done. With decent crowd, we got our orders ready swiftly. Quite plentiful menu offered including different creations of matcha and hojicha. They did have various seasonal menus if you're more explorative. I went simple today ordering the Hojicha Latte. It's tad watered down for my liking and I thought it they went one size down like doing 12oz but made the drink bolder, it would turn out much better. Fortunately I got another drink from their coffee selection, their house favorite Rose Cream Top. This one served strong coffee flavor, well balanced by the sweet cream top. Lots of coffee places in LA, the standout here was the service. The cashier at the counter was so very cheery and helpful (refreshing to see someone happy about their work). The pastries, I think, are from Glassell Park's, Sugarbloom which are always good (like to see locals using locals materials or goods). A variety of pretty coffees hot or iced. I'm a huge fan of cafe ole so I got that. Pretty good but doesn't beat Gloria's in Highland park. Yogurt Partfait was pretty good. We eat a ton of breakfast burritos and are always in the hunt for super good ones. This one is like a 6. Cute atmosphere with old church pews as seats (like that they reuse old materials). I've been to the Rosebud in Pasadena, and wasn't the biggest fan. So im super stoked that I really enjoyed this Highland Park location so much. This location has better seating and more of a coffee shop vibe. I ordered their cherry espresso tonic. It wasn't too sweet and the espresso quality was great. Staff was also friendly and service was fast. I would def come here again! The ambiance really sold it for me above anything else. Aside from the regular seating, they have a small couch towards the back that makes the space feel a lot more "romantic". read more

Rosebud's Coffee with a Cause concept is fantastic. It helps young adults (ages 16 - 24) who have experienced foster care, homelessness, or involvement in the justice system find jobs, stability, and a purpose in life through internship and mentorship programs. Part of this transition is training them as baristas at their coffee shops. Rosebud started out as a coffee cart concept before the Pasadena café opened. Founder Dan Davidson recently opened a second location in HLP just a few blocks from my house. I stopped in on a Sunday morning and received a warm "Hello" from Gabby. I noticed how spacious and cozy the place was. Seating is abundant and there is merchandise, bagged coffee, and other cute stuff available for purchase. They also have yummy pastries in the case. I ordered a Café De Olla - their version is a flat white with café de olla syrup. Gabby informed me that there is no charge for milk alternatives, which is great. I requested mine with almond milk. Gabby prepared my beverage with care and added a dusting of cinnamon over the latte art. The bold richness of the coffee was balanced out by the creaminess of the almond milk and I could taste the notes of cinnamon and spice. It was the prefect start to my morning. I came here between yoga and starting work. It was pretty empty which made it quiet to enjoy the coffee and pastry. There was parking in the back or street. I came in and ordered the orange blossom mocha and the cinnamon roll. The drink was perfect and reminded me of a milk tea in terms of flavor with a slight citrus follow up. It was iced and smooth to drink. The cinnamon roll had the perfect amount of frosting without overpowering the pastry portion of the roll. The service was fantastic and they brought my pastry out to me after it was warmed up. I definitely want to stop by again. It is a relaxed atmosphere and they support a good cause for youth. Actually tasty and large breakfast burrito!! I usually have leftovers and still had about half of it after. My bf ate his full burrito and said he was full. He got a mocha which he said was good. I didn't get a chance to grab a drink this time but im definitely returning. The green sauce is killer, 100% don't sleep on it, so good. Some seating indoor and 2 tables outdoor. Great coffee and atmosphere. Extra points for the amazing service. Had an interesting experience with a pair of rude customers behind us. One of them asked for a new drink free of charge because they didn't like their current one, and the staff went above and beyond offering multiple options to make sure they'd have a good experience. Sadly they were still unhappy and rudely (and loudly) kept complaining about how bitter the coffee was. Coffee? Bitter? News at 11. I really like the atmosphere, it's one of the few places that make me feel comfortable and at ease. The food from the few times I've tried has been pretty good too. The music choices are always great. The rose cream top is my usual go to when I want coffee. I also like their matcha, it can kinda depend but for the most part it's a good green and good taste. I especially liked the rose cream on top of their matcha. Although, I'm not sure why they don't do that anymore. It's been a while but I remember in the earlier days asking for matcha with the rose cream and I really liked it but then all of the sudden they said they couldn't do that anymore. Rosebud is easily my new favorite cafe in Highland Park! Julia and Gabby were so friendly when I walked in and they suggested a tres leches latte that was so unique and delicious!
