I love that superba opens in Pasadena! I used to visit it often when I lived close to Venice. This place is cool, with amble parking in the back. The food and drink quality is solid. They have delicious bakeries, quite a few items for breakfast and lunch. And they know about coffee! We had a breakfast sandwich, which was more like a burger. It was great flavor. And the ricotta toast was delicious with the fresh ricotta. I also like my gilbrator, which is a like a short latte. Pretty strong. Chai latte was good too, but I prefer the one from Copa Vida. This is a hip, snack shop located off the busy street of Arroyo Parkway. Came here on a Wednesday around noon with a friend and the shop had a decent amount of people, but was not full. We had no wait-time and they have plenty parking lot in the back. The driveway to the parking lot is located between Superba and the neighboring Pitfire. The ricotta toast covered with marmalade and heapfuls of ricotta is delightful and sweet. It's a fairly decent-sized toast, so it's good for sharing. At first, it seemed underwhelming; but the more I ate it, the more I liked it! The ricotta feels buttery and the marmalade is delicious. The brioche doesn't feel fresh, but it's still good. It's good, but it's not my first pick for a snack. The frittata is a baked egg dish with spinach and herbs. It's served in an adorable small cast-iron pan, which is awesome! The flavor is ok; and the texture feels right. It's fairly cheesy, too. There's nothing necessarily wrong with it, but it doesn't feel like it stands out. I feel like it could use some more texture-ally interesting components (like crunchiness or moistness from more creme fraiche). The grain bowl was my favorite out of all the dishes. The dressings is perfectly balanced with seasoning. The brown rice and vegetables had great texture; and the greens are nice and crunchy. You don't get a lot, but I thought it was one of the better dishes. I would order this again if I were studying here. Service here is great; our cashier is super friendly and the food comes out fairly quickly. Remember to bus your own tables before leaving; they have a lot of signage to indicate where you should put your used dishes. The space is gorgeous with beautiful painted walls and nice open windows. Dodgy hygiene! Based on the 4+ stars on yelp, we decided to try Superba for the first time. As we stood in line, my wife noticed the cashier digging into a jar with his bare hand to retrieve an item to add to a customer's order and he then wiped his hand on the back if his neck. The sight of this made my wife want to leave immediately, so we did. A complete waste of time stopping at Superba since I was really hungry. We went to Tartine instead. Poor management and poor staff training; no second chances...they just lost a new customer, end of story. read more

I must say this is a cool spot for coffee and especially breakfast. Simple breakfast, but delicious. We had a breakfast burrito and sandwich both were very flavorful. Service was good. Superba's service is so depressing it's almost hard to not ask the barista's if they are being held captive against their will. I have come here for over a year due to the proximity to my home. However, I will never be returning after this week. I was barked at for putting napkins in my to go order when there weren't any in the order by a worker who is generally very unwelcoming, so this was not surprising. I then ordered a matcha tea to go with oat milk as I have a severe dairy allergy. They did not put oat milk and I had to give myself an epidural shot on the 110 this morning. While terrifying I also found myself laughing so hard bc I've never in my life had such bad service so consistently over such a long period of time. Hip eatery from the Westside is now open with easy free parking in the rear of the cafe. Order at the counter then find a seat and they call your name when the food is ready for pickup. They have open faced toasts like savory avocado toasts and sweet cinnamon ones. Milkshakes look popular and there's a good selection of espresso drinks that can be made hot or cold. There are plenty of seating but it does get busy at lunch time, and some people stay there all day with their laptops so the good half booth seatings are scarce. I stopped in, early Sunday morning, for a breakfast sandwich. I have never been to this location. I have been to the Venice location. My first impression, the staff lady taking my order needed a sip of coffee, before taking my order, not professional at all. The most disgusting part was the tables and the stained seat cushions were covered in food debris and crumbs. They were too busy chit chatting to clean the tables, and it was not busy, at that time. There was a very wobbly table in one corner, which should be replaced or repaired. I feel that management needs to pay more attention to the presentation of their establishment. I will most likely not patronize this establishment ever. The food is ok. read more

Walked over for coffee and breakfast! The whole cafe is very open and there is a dog friendly section. The pastry selection is amazing -- the only problem was deciding what to get. Taste-wise, I have enjoyed some of the cookies, can't speak to the other pastries yet although they all look good. I also got the cheesy egg toast which was delicious and filling. Looking forward to going back and trying the other sandwiches! Staff is friendly and happy to answer questions. Couldn't quite sell me on the mushroom latte this time (I really needed caffeine) but I'm curious to try it. I like that it opens so early, since I'm always walking the dog in the mornings. We love Superba - everyone in the family agrees that this is our go-to breakfast spot. Our list of favorite items is long, but here are some top choices: avo toast (with radishes and a bit of spice), soft egg tartine (oh the cornichons balance the eggs so well), French toast (my daughter is obsessed and I agree) and winner winner egg sandwich (holy shit this guy is the best). We all love the baked goods and coffee as well. Try the almost croissant...you will not be mad. One nitpicking thing for me - I am a plain croissant connoisseur of sorts and I find Superba's a bit dry, maybe lacking in the butter department or perhaps overcooked. They still have a good crunch, but lack the richness I love. Note - they are open during stay at home orders and have an assortment of groceries to sell as well. Enjoy!! read more

Coming from someone who has worked a decade in customer service I SOOO get that dealing with customers all day can suck and sometimes our patience slips. But there is one specific woman who works here that is SO rude hands down every single time we come in. She has a great ability to make you feel bad for existing. my bf and I always stay super nice because we get it can be hard, but she made me feel so bad for my order today that I got tears in my eyes. Honestly, this woman should not be working the counter if she is so blatantly pissed off towards customers for -just ordering- I love superba's stuff but it's just not worth risking having to interact with her again, definitely won't be coming back read more

Came here for the first time, excited to have some yummy breakfast and maybe discover a favorite new café. My experience was slightly charmed and kind of meh. The yay: Easy parking in a difficult-to-park area (pretty amazing, really). The interior has a nice vibe, very simple, pleasantly bright and airy because of the large windows. The music is a good, pleasant mix. The food and drink were ready VERY quickly. The menu is not huge, but everything they offer interests me. Also, this place is slightly less expensive than other similar places nearby. It's a good, mellow space for solo dining. The meh: street noise if you care about that (it's not terrible), dirty seating (the upholstery is reminiscent of sitting on a dirty couch - stained and with lots of crumbs. I'd sit on another surface if you have bare legs. ). I got the cheesy toast, and the bread was burned on the edges which definitely affected the flavor and texture. The eggs themselves were great (whatever seasoning they use is yummy - probably just salt and pepper, but it's exactly perfect). The morning bun was ok. I am probably spoiled by Commissary's ridiculous morning bun, to be honest. The "obscure" tea was underwhelming, but I do prefer teas that do well with cream and honey, and this might be too subtle and better without. The bottom line might be that I came here expecting something slightly nicer. If you are expecting more of a café vibe, this might leave you feeling slightly disappointed, like it was a three-star experience. If you come here expecting fast food, it will definitely exceed five stars. It's somewhere in the middle. I'll likely come back to give the other dishes and drinks a shot, but Pasadena has so many delicious cafés at which I've had wonderful meals, so they do have stiff competition. This place really got under my skin today. In the past, they got one of my orders wrong which is minute, but as a vegetarian I didn't appreciate biting into bacon when they did get the order very wrong. They offered a discount on my next purchase, fine, but what was done was done. Today, I had it with them. I forgot my mask in my car so I asked for a disposable mask replacement and she said it would be $0.56. Obviously, the $ is not that big of a deal, as I ordered their $6 12oz latte, but it was pouring outside. Frequent customer. Five stars from food, vibe, to customer service. One thing I would love to see improved is the way they handle serving the food at the counter. Most of the time when I am standing across the counter waiting for my name to be called before my food is ready, I would see one of my items is finished (let's say it's a toast) before the other (e.g. the sandwich). While it makes sense for them to wait till both of my items to finish so they could serve my full order altogether, it's sad to see my toast is sitting there getting cold when waiting for the sandwich. A more important issue is that during this time, my first food item is exposed on the counter right in front of the server, while he is loudly calling names for the other orders WITHOUT A MASK. So I am basically just witnessing my toast being sprinkled with spits all over the whole time I was waiting. Maybe adding a cover for the trays before they are served would helped? Food is mediocre and over priced. A latte the size of Starbucks tall is 6-7$. The food is basic and lacks flavor. I have been here 3x and leave disappointed every time. Last time I ordered the chicken arugula salad and everything was so bland, including the chicken. I paid 20$ for a sandwich and coffee which should've been $12-16 for the small portion sizes. The only food item I've been satisfied with is the cheesy egg toast. This place is not worth the high prices. Copa Vida in Pasadena has better food options and has better prices that matches the quality of food and coffe and their portions. read more
