Off busy Colorado Blvd, one block from the Pasadena Playhouse is Home Brewed. Even on a busy (and hot) Sunday afternoon, it's patio is a quiet, shady nook with soft, eclectic music playing. The coffee is first rate. The chocolate chip scone I had was crispy and wonderful. (Thank goodness they only had one left or I would have had two!) The coffees they featured on the day I was there were Maple Oat and a Sweet and Salty PB (peanut butter) Latte. If those drinks are as good as the mocha they made me, they should be great. My server, Onyx, was very friendly and welcoming -- and was a quick beverage maker. And other staff seemed nice as well. I would happily come to a show early to allow me time to visit here. Cute little storefront, nice seating, and a perfectly good Americano... but $8.95?! For $8.95, I was expecting my coffee to come with a motivational speech & a massage. Instead, I got an Americano. The ordering process is either traditional face to face or completely self-service on a touchscreen. I tried touch screen & there was literally zero human interaction--until my name was called to pick up my drink. And yet, the screen still politely asked me if I wanted to leave a tip. Tip for what exactly? My exceptional ability to operate a touchscreen? And after picking up my nearly $9 coffee, there was no "thank you," no "have a great day," not even a polite nod of acknowledgment. Parking was a b!tch so have fun with that, small cutsey cafe, the drinks came out in a few minutes and my matcha was really good quality but I feel my drinks came out sweeter than I had hoped but were good quality. I understand the general trend is for drinks to be on the sweeter side but I was hoping that because of the raving reviews that it would come out closer to my preference. What a quaint modern cottage-like cafe somewhat hidden and very unique. It's slightly overpriced for my taste (most specialty regular sized lattes are over $8), but if you want to treat yourself you should prance over or drive...if you snag nearby 2 hour street parking. As for the coffee they have plenty of options ranging from popcorn matcha to coffee with boba! I ordered a hot rose latte and it was delicious. Order at the counter or using the electronic kiosk. Home Brewed Bar had been one of my favorite spots for tea or coffee for the past decade plus. When I worked in old town Pasadena, I used to frequent their previous location, which was closer to my office. It wasn't the closest place to grab a cup of tea or coffee, but I always felt like it was worth the walk. They have extremely creative and premium drinks with innovative flavors. Service is very strong. They offer great suggestions. I am very happy that their standard base for milk tease is non-dairy, something I usually end up paying extra for. Their new location has easier parking and is a very cute building with a courtyard. I recently met a friend there, but we were on limited work breaks, and I was so distracted that I forgot to take a photo of my pistachio latte. I really enjoyed it. Super cute cafe, there is seating outside and inside. There are tea options along with coffee options. I got the Strawberry Jasmine 75% sweet, it is alright overall. Not the best tea I have had but not the worst. I think if you like things more sweet, definitely get it more sweet. They also have food options, I personally did not try them. I used to go to their old location, and I was told that they have moved to this new place since 2 years ago. I could not thinking about the tasty drink I used to have, and decided to stop by. It is located on a small street that is pretty quiet. I was able to find street parking easily. Decorations were modern, warm, cozy, and welcoming. A hidden little gem! I am so glad to have come across this adorable place! The inside of the shop is quite small with just a handful of tables, but there is more seating right outside. I ordered the Pistachio Matcha. The matcha was well mixed and frothy, the pistachio flavor wasn't very strong but that's probably because I got it with 50% less sweet. Next time, I am going to order it regular to compare, but I really enjoyed my drink! My friend got the peach mango tea and she said it was also a 10/10. Not overly sweet and really refreshing. Last thing I'll shout out is the service. The barista who helped me I could tell was putting so much genuine care into the drinks he was making. I was trying to find a coffee shop nearby before heading to work. This was easy to find and there was plenty of street parking. I ordered through the kiosk inside which almost look like a cozy indoor/outdoor backyard. It was a very relaxed vibe. The barista was super helpful and called out the drink by your name. Similarly, it's a place where you can indulge in a traditional Filipino-inspired game (sungka) board in a cozy and inviting coffee house. Besides their traditional order counter, there are two kiosks for a quick order placement. Interior design was cutely curated, albeit very tight in space. If you're a bit claustrophobic you may want to seat outside. I came on a very warm afternoon as a first time visitor to grab a cold drink. Their menu items were compendious as well as their food and pastry. I end up with an Iced Lavender Latter x 50% sweetness would suffice. Drink was brilliant in flavorful and very refreshing enough for $7.65 usd. There goes the power of my mighty dolla! lol ;D Anyway, their male staff was competent and professional. Atmosphere was quite relaxing despite their tight space layout. Prices were shockingly expensive than most coffee bar-shop in the area. Service was okay-prompt enough. Finding free street parking can be a challenge given it's located in old town Pasadena. Collectively, this was a unique hobbit like cafe with an intimate setting mainly because you're only an elbow nudge away from the person seating next to you. Haha! Eh lowkey disappointed in this place. I'm very surprised at all the reviews. I will say it's a better area in terms of parking being plentiful. However, my banana matcha looked nothing like the owner's photo. It was super thick, frothy, and the banana tasted unripe. Also didn't have much ice. I felt like I was drinking smoothie rather than an iced drink. The barista offered adjustments but it just seemed like there was no coming back from this lol. All I can say is WOW. I accidentally discovered this gem a week ago, and I'm so glad to have this delicious option for my morning pick me up! Despite not living close by, I went back again today I've had the Pistachio Iced Toddy Latte and the Nutella Iced Toddy Latte...both with oat milk, and they were DIVINE. Full disclosure I like sweet drinks, so if you have a sweet tooth like me, these drinks are perfect. The interior is cute with a few tables and bar seating, and there is also a cute patio with tables too. Parking is street parking, unless I'm missing something. The staff is warm and helpful too! You can earn loyalty stars from your purchases, which is awesome. If you're in the hunt for a new spot, definitely make a visit! read more

Love this little hidden gem. There are so many choices in Pasadena for yummy coffee drinks and I try to shop local when possible. A coworker introduced me here and it's been one of my regular stops when working in the area. Not only is it off the beaten path and away from the other stores, there's a small / cozy indoor section AND small outdoor patio section away from the sidewalk. My go-to order is their maple oat latte, both hot and cold options are so good. They have so many interesting seasonal drinks on top of the regular drinks, and their pastries look huge (haven't tried, yet!). I'm so glad to discover this place since it wasn't initially in an area I was browsing for when looking for a nearby coffee stop. read more

I was early for an appointment in downtown Pasadena, so I decided to walkaround the area. I was born and raised in the SGV but never explored the cities so figured this was a great opportunity. Amongst the different office buildings and restaurants, I found myself passing by the Home Brewed Bar and went in for a quick pick me up. The store is located right on the corner of Green Street and Madison Ave, and they specialize in milk teas, coffee, and pastries. Walking into the store, I noticed there is a cozy seating area with three standard height tables with 2 chairs each, and 1 bar height table that has 4 stools. Orders can be placed with the barista or, for those who dislike talking to others, there is even a self-service kiosk so you can quickly put in an order without speaking to anyone. There wasn't a line, and I wasn't in a rush, so I decided to go up to the counter to check out their pastries and their seasonal special. As I walked up to the counter, I was greeted by Brandon who was the friendliest person I have ever met while ordering a drink. He asked what I enjoyed and if he can recommend anything. My go to is normally coffee, or perhaps a cold brew, but since I wanted a more relaxed day I asked if there was anything the store was known for. He asked me a few more questions and based on my preferences, Brandon recommended the house special, Matcha Pistachio milk tea. It's slightly sweet and is perfectly balanced with the nuttiness from the pistachio. He goes on to add that it is a crowd favorite so much so that the store even offers a 48 oz party sizes. After hearing that someone would order 48 oz of one drink (hopefully the person is sharing), I was intrigued. Similar to other milk tea stores, you can customize the drink, so I asked Brandon to help me create my drink with easy the ice and less sugar. The Matcha Pistachio definitely hit the spot. The matcha wasn't too pronounced which was surprising. I tasted a lot more of the pistachio and a slight complement from the match. It felt like a 75/25 split between the two instead of the expected 50/50 split. I wasn't disappointed at all just taken back as a lot of other places go heavy on the matcha. The sweetness and the ice level were right on point, not too overpowering so I can taste the pistachio and matcha blend. Thanks for the recommendation, Brandon! I didn't get a chance to try out the pastry since I was watching the carb intake, but the Spinach and Cheese Croissant sure looked yummy. Maybe I can try it out next time when I'm in the area. Street parking was plentiful and for my Pokémon Go players there are stops nearby. With their knowledgeable staff, cozy atmosphere free Wi-Fi, Home Brewed Bar looks like it's a great place for a study session or just for a quick pick me up. I love this little place! We have musical activities at the church next to it often and I've always wanted to try it and yesterday we did! My friend had a vanilla latte with low fat milk and I went for the blended cookie cream coffee drink with ube whipped topping. I wish we took photos, they were pretty and delicious. We sat at a little yellow table in the courtyard under the staircase, the whole experience was very charming. When I got my drink it didn't have the whipped topping. Perfect for meeting up with friends. We love the Taro Whip! My favorite drink is their Matcha Unsweetened with Almond Milk and Taro Whip! V and grandpa love all the drink choices, including coffee with boba. It's been normalized thanks to Brian and his crew. My husband and I visited Home Brewed Bar for the first time this past Sunday, 3/31 at around 4:00 PM. I've seen the coffee shop on Yelp and have been wanting to go for some time. We ended up ordering: +Large Hot Maple Oat Latte - $7.90 (price incl tax as of 3/2024) - The drink was decent but pretty mild-flavored. The espresso was not strong (I'm not entirely sure if they add any more espresso when you upgrade your drink size), and the maple was faint. The drink wasn't overly sweet, so that's good; however, the overall drink was just too light. I also though the pricing was pretty hefty, but it might be because the latte is with oat milk already. Sadly, not as impressed. +Egg Sandwich - $12 (price incl tax as of 3/2024) - My husband viewed the snack area and wanted a quick bite. We have been missing Japan's egg sandwiches, so we opted to try this one. Their egg sandwich was pretty tasty. They have a soft-boiled egg that was cut in the center - 2/3 of the egg halves looked fresh, while one looked a lil not so much. The soft-boiled eggs were marinated in maybe an adobo soy sauce, while the rest of the egg salad had a more traditional taste. Overall, this tasted surprisingly better than I had thought. Customer Service: The barista who rang us up and made our drinks was kind and friendly. He was the only staffer working so he, not only acknowledged us but apologized for the slight wait. Def no complaints there! They also have a self-ordering kiosk, so if you just want to order yourself, it's handy! Seating: Limited indoor and a few outdoor seating available. We were trying to grab a seat before we headed out, but the large bench table in the middle was occupied by a party. The smaller tables were also occupied, which was a bummer.
