It was quite loud inside on a Saturday so good to know if you need a quiet place to work. I saw quite a few people working on laptops as well as groups of people catching up. i so badly wanted to love philz's matcha after finding out they launched it yesterday as a regular philz customer (my office is literally right across the street), i was really excited to try it with some coworkers. unfortunately, we all walked away pretty disappointed. between us, we ordered the regular, strawberry, strawberry mint, and salted caramel matchas. here are my thoughts: regular matcha (medium sweet): honestly the best one of the bunch by far. my only complaint is that it was still very sweet, to the point where it overpowered a lot of the matcha flavor. strawberry & strawberry mint (both medium sweet): this might come down to personal preference, but the strawberry syrup tasted really artificial to me. kind of plastic-y and almost cough syrup-like. i wasn't a fan of either drink, and the strawberry mint is basically the exact same drink with a mint leaf on top. both were also much sweeter than expected, making it hard to taste the matcha itself. salted caramel (light sweet): this was the biggest letdown. i specifically ordered light sweet because caramel is already sweet on its own, but somehow it still tasted like i was drinking a melted candy bar. i actually went back to my office, poured out about a third of the drink, and topped it off with milk just to make it drinkable. even then, it was still overwhelmingly sweet. the caramel drizzle also settles at the bottom of the cup, so i spent half the time stirring it. i think it would mix much better if the drizzle was put along the sides of the cup instead. sadly, this one barely tasted like matcha at all. that said, i'm still a philz fan and will definitely keep coming back. i just think i'll be sticking to what they do best: the coffee. read more

Ordered Doordash and my order arrived less than half an hour surprisingly! The carrier that my drinks came in was very sturdy and I really enjoyed the paper packaging. Drinks were a little pricey so expect to pay $7+! I enjoyed that there were ice and sugar adjustments available and milk substitutions at no extra charge! Got the Honey Haze ($7.45) and it was just cold brew with honey and oat milk. I ordered a small with creamy oat milk and medium honey. However, it still seemed a bit too sweet for my preference. The coffee tasted like regular coffee I would get at a convenience store and nothing special. The Iced Coffee Rose ($7.45) was cold brew with a rose cream top. I requested it with light rose oat milk and light sugar. However, it still seemed too sweet. The rose cream top didn't taste floral at all. The coffee was nothing special so I definitely won't recommend. My friend and I stopped by this cute coffee shop while we were waiting for a dinner reservation. I must say, I love walking into a coffee shop and you smell the coffee beans. I usually enjoy their pastries, and the staff is always helpful. It's a great place to get some work done on your computer or just relax and enjoy your coffee. I also like getting their Too Good To Go deals, and today I picked up four pastries: a Dubai chocolate croissant, a chocolate chip cookie croissant, a butter croissant, and a blueberry muffin. Philz has great options to choose from on their cold brew menu. The coffee menu is separated into light, medium and dark blends. An accurate description of notes is provided with each flavor. My favorite drink is the mint mojito. Creamy from the milk and mint leaves for an additional buzz in the cold brew. They do have a reward program too to save you money on a drink in the future. Service/Ambiance: There are ample tables to accommodate people in their personal activities. There are tables outside as well. Once the barista calls your name to pick up your drink, you can taste it and tell the barista any modifications you'd like to make sure you're leaving with a drink you like. Overall, I would recommend Philz coffee. The coffee is solid and I like how you can tell the barista if your drink doesn't meet your desires and they can make it right. read more

COVID-19: Social distancing is not enforced at this establishment. Some of the staff wears a mask. All customers are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor & outdoor seating available with no limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing my food from this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is located behind the building. It's a parking garage. You have to pay for parking UNLESS you can find street parking. Food: I ordered a bacon and egg burrito because I forgot to bring food to work. Paying $9 for a bland burrito with no sauce was pathetic. That's why I decided to remove two stars. One star for the ridiculous price for the small burrito. One star for the blandness of the burrito. The bacon wasn't even crunchy. The eggs had no taste to it at all. Bland. Terrible! The redeeming factor was the staff. The staff made me give this place 3 stars. Just spent a fun time browsing and shopping at Vroman's bookstore, and felt like we needed a pick-me-up so this coffee shop within walking distance was perfect! I was curious to see this Southern California franchise of Philz. As in most Pasadena venues, parking isn't free. Unlike other Philz sites with mostly the floor space in the form of a square, this site is a uniquelly physically "linear" branch, the floor space being like an elongated rectangular area forming one straight line from both end entrances. They also have outdoor sitting. With it's welcoming yellow doors and exterior color concept, its bright and tastefully designed interiors, it easily draws one in to come in and visit, and even stay for a while. It was quiet and relaxing inside, in contrast to the vibrant colors and bright lighting. Tantalizing Turkish, which I regularly order from any Philz I go to, wasn't on their menu board but the kind and friendly cashier stated they do have it. Aside from the cashier, there seemed to be only one more staff - the one who made your ordered coffee. This one didn't seem friendly at all. I didn't mind her lack of congeniality, I was more bothered about her lack of food service hygiene. She had just wiped coffee spill off the counter (where she presents the finished coffee to the customer) with a rag. One could easily guess how often that rag must have been used already, and how moist that rag must be... When I asked for a cover for my cup of coffee, she immediately plopped a plastic cover face down on the same counter where that rag passed. I just asked for another cover instead and quietly requested her to not put it on the counter but just hand it to me. Staff in all branches should really receive training on how to hand over covers for cups to customers. Not all coffee baristas are equal, some really make delicious coffee while some just make it so-so. While I do get good-tasting Tantalizing Turkish coffee from the regular Philz I go to, the one I ordered from this branch just didn't make the cut. All in all, it was still a good experience. I ordered an Iced Mint Mojito, which was amazing - unlike any other coffee I've had. As a mint lover, I absolutely enjoyed the flavor! I also got a Gingersnap coffee for my wife, who prefers hot drinks; she thought it was a bit too sweet, but I really liked the holiday-season flavor, reminding me of warm sweaters and the holidays. I'd definitely return to Philz to try other drinks, but I'd prefer to visit a location with better parking, as there's no street parking nearby and they don't validate. Always love Philz and I always come back!! My go to is the Honey Haze, it's light, mellow, and refreshing but still has a great coffee flavor. Today I tried the new tiramisu sweet and creamy and it's a great new holiday flavor but I think I would get it less sweet next time. The cocoa powder on the top was perfect and I would get it again. The cafe itself has lots of seating, outlets, and WiFi making it a great place to get some work done. I've spent all day here before working remotely and love that the outlets are so convenient and WiFi is strong. One of my go-to study cafe spots! It's crowded on the weekends but not-so much on the weekdays. I came on Monday morning for a couple of hours and there was plenty of seating available. I love their hot foods and sandwiches but imo the baked goods you can skip. The croissant is a solid 7/10 . Nice ambiance and friendly servers. Usually I rotated between the mint mojito, cold brew, mocha tesora, and rose cold brew! You can't really go wrong with these & I always ask for less sweet for the mocha tesora. I haven't been to this Philz Coffee location in quite a while and decided to place a mobile order while waiting for an appointment with my optometrist nearby. The main reason I'm giving this recent visit two stars is because of the service. I walked into the store about five minutes after the app notified me that my drinks were ready and specifically told me to check in with "Luz," our barista. So I walked over and politely asked about my order. She responded with a facial expression that closely resembled disgust--as if she was silently asking why I was even speaking to her--and said, "We're working on it," with a frown. ...Okay. After our drinks finally came out, she placed them on the counter, called my name, and immediately walked away. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I remember, Philz Coffee baristas usually ask customers to taste their drinks and let them know if the flavor needs to be adjusted. That's kind of part of the experience. Unfortunately, I didn't get that opportunity because she disappeared before I could say anything. To make things worse, all of the sweetness levels were off. I ordered three drinks - the drink that was supposed to be "sweet and creamy" wasn't sweet enough, the one that was supposed to have "light sugar" was somehow too sweet, and the last drink wasn't sweet at all--it was just bitter. At that point, between the attitude and the inconsistent drinks, it just wasn't worth the hassle. Sadly, I most likely won't be returning to this location. I had already taken a break from coming here, and this visit pretty much confirmed why. I'll continue making the drive to the Philz Coffee in Glendale instead, where the drinks are consistently good and the experience is much better. This location is pretty good for working with a strong wifi so you can actually sit outside in the outdoor patio space and work too. The food is so/so. They specialize in customized coffee blends, made from sustainably sourced green beans from around the world, and skillfully roasted in their roasting facility in Oakland, CA. We have never tried this coffee franchise before but to our surprise they exceeded our expectation. They have a good and interesting coffee blends. I had a hot Philtered Soul, a medium & balanced blend of hazelnut, maple and caramel. It was bloody PERFECT in taste and aroma. To top it off, I added a fresh flaky Chocolate Croissant. Service was on point despite its multiple orders from local customers. Interior atmosphere was chill. Free wifi. Prices were competitive and fair. Staff were competent and professional. Philz is ok.. the orders take a while, even if you order on the app. The service is always polite. The coffee is not strong so I don't feel much energy after a cup. I appreciate the adjustable sweetness levels on all drinks. But I do not like the giant chunk of mint leaves in the mojito coffee. As a dairy free girly, there aren't as many hot options for me, especially when it comes to their seasonal flavors and food. This location is nice with ample seating outside. However, if you are here early beware of parking on Lake Ave since this is part of the Commons shopping plaza which is locked overnight and isn't unlocked when Philz opens so you will have to walk all around the back of the block. Parking behind to be closest to Philz is tricky since the few curb parking spots gets taken by everyone else waiting for their coffee I learned this the hard way on a cold morning. read more

Yes, I'm that guy, the one who only orders decaf coffee. Fortunately for me, Philz makes a mean one. Best probably of all the chains. They call their decaf version Luca's unplugged. I used to go to Philz with my partner very often when we were living in Berkeley and unfortunately don't live too close to a Philz in the LA area. We decided to come out to Pasadena to revisit our fond memories of Philz and it was definitely a pleasure. This location is very cute indoors and has a lot of room for studying, hanging out, or just taking a moment to relax. Please keep in mind that the parking is not the greatest here! We came on a Friday, which is usually one the busier days of the week, it was constant circling around the area to find parking. When we went inside, we were greeted with great energy from the workers! The cashier was very sweet and patient with us. I ordered a small hot chocolate and my partner ordered a small mocha tesora. Unfortunately, our drinks came out incorrect which ended up being an error from the cashier, but it was no biggy! The barista was kind enough to remake them.
