Sunset Grouper with Black Beans & Rice, Gouda Grits

This is one popular place, we got here right at dinner prime time, but only had to wait about 10 min to get in. They also have a bar area which is first come first serve. Huge bar with plenty of drinks and beers. They have TVs all over the place, so you can easily catch the big games. Plenty of seating, even rooftop, which was packed and a long wait. The food was tasty, not amazing, but good. My fish was overcooked, but the delicious grits made up for it. The tortellini was good, as was the coconut shrimp. The fiesta fish bowl was just okay, over cooked fish again. Overall it was a good experience, and I can see why it's so hyped up here in St. Augustine.

Was here twice in the same day. First time for cocktails at the bar and the second for dinner. Both experiences were very good! The first time we were served by Angel at the bar and she made rum runners on the rocks & my wife had the mango paradise. Both were very refreshing! So much so we had several each as we watched the Cubs on TV. Fly the W! Angel and the vibe at the bar is very chill & welcoming. Our second encounter was for dinner a couple of hours after our first encounter and even at 8:30PM there was still a wait. We actually ate outside at one of the booths where its first come first serve. This time we just had a couple of beers each along with our entrees. I had the Seafood Combo which was trigger fish & shrimp (blackened) with 2 sides (fresh greens beans & cole slaw). My wife had the Sunset Shrimp Pasta Bowl which had 9 pieces of shrimp in a cream based sauce which she said was fantastic! We also got a free t-shirt for our efforts! Woohoo! If visiting St. Augustine Beach give the Sunset Grille a try!

Stopped for a quick drink and snack. Regular margarita was substandard, tasted like cheap sour mix. Spicy Bloodmary was good but not spicy. Order of chicken wings, good flavor but needed to be crispy. Couple of draft beers 5.50 a piece a bit pricey for around here. Overall, nothing special, but will do if you have limited options. Waitress was nice.

Service is great. Waitress was attentive as well as the other workers. Food is ok. We had a large party and everyone felt the same regarding their food.

If you're looking for that perfect beachside spot in St. Augustine, Sunset Grill never disappoints! The Sunset Salad is hands-down one of my all-time favorites--the fresh ingredients topped with their dreamy Key Lime dressing is pure coastal perfection. The food here is always quality, the portions are generous (trust me, you won't leave hungry), and the vibe is relaxed yet lively.Jessica is one of our favorite servers--always friendly, upbeat, and quick with a smile. The beers are icy cold, and if you're in the mood for something fun, their espresso martinis are absolutely delish. Between the consistently great food, the super clean atmosphere, and the laid-back beachy feel, I can honestly say I absolutely love this place. It's the kind of spot you can count on every single time.

    Clam chowder fries (must try)

Can't go wrong with anything on the menu, everything was a hit! Omg the clam chowder fries were BOMB, we got them on a whim because we were cold and wasn't expecting them to be so addictive, no wonder they're award winning. I got the cheese tortellini entree, the alfredo sauce was super rich and flavorful. And of course I had to get the famous peanut butter pie that everyone says to try, soooo rich and you can tell that it's homemade.

3 Service- Host was busy but nice. Server was full of energy and helpful. Vibe- Fun eclectic vibe, ate outside in the top floor and it was nice, although a limited view on the side. Good- Crab and artichoke bisque was good- nice flavor. Seafood platter left a lot to be desired. Fish was great, however the shrimp were chewy and lacked any sort of flavor and were left behind. Shrimp scampi- it was brown. It was an odd and thick sauce. Fish sandwich- my son liked, crispy. Lobster Mac and cheese- macaroni was ok, lobster was not fresh and chewy. Also sadly left behind. We did not complain- too late in the day and were kinda over it. Just manage expectations.

It was raining when we dined here so it is hard to rate the ambiance but overall it gave beach bar/restaurant. The food was amazing! The oysters were a stand out. The blackened fish and shrimp were great. Perfectly cooked baked potato. Our waitress was very attentive so I would give the service 10/10.

Do you take reservations for party of 6?

Hello Bob, because we have multiple dining areas that are weather dependent, we do not take reservations. Thank You for your interest!

Can we bring dogs for our side seating?

Hi! I work at sunset, we allow dogs on our outside downstairs area.

    Are dogs allowed?

Yes , outside for sure , I think I saw one inside but I’m not positive

Do they have a happy hour? What days and times?

Yes they do. I think it's 4-6 pm

How is the happy hour here? What do they offer?

Happy hour in the bar area only. Sunset Grille is outstanding they will take good care of you.

Would this be a good place to watch the basketball game on Sunday night?

Yes, I think so....it was very nice and quiet & the breeze coming off the water wass AWESOME!! It didn't appear to be over crowded at all on the Sunday that we were there.…

Even getting inside was part of the fun since you enter through a hidden bookcase. One of my favorite parts was the drinks. There isn't a cocktail menu in the speakeasy. Instead, the mixologist comes over, asks you a few questions about what you like and don't like, and then makes something specifically for you. We had four drinks between us and every one was completely different. It actually became a little game trying to guess what was in each drink before they told us. The food was great too. They brought out pork rinds to start and those were AMAZING. For tapas we ordered the tequeños, tuna tostada, wings, and Media Noches Bites. Calling the Media Noches "bites" is almost funny because they were HUGE! We definitely ordered more food than we needed and couldn't even finish everything, but we enjoyed all of it. Between the hidden entrance, quiet atmosphere, food, and having drinks made specifically around our tastes, this ended up being one of our favorite experiences in St. Augustine. It wasn't just going somewhere for dinner and drinks. The whole experience was fun from beginning to end and I'd absolutely do it again.

Servers were friendly, a bit on the "chill" side but honestly just giving off the "island vibe". One thing to note, there appears to be and "indoor' type dining area and then a more outside, screened in type area. We accidentally entered to outside area and sat there before realizing this. It was a pretty pleasant evening and they did engage the fans out there but if it's a warmer period you might opt for Inside Dining. We had draft beer, the amber lager made for Mango Mangoes, Tasty and cold! Here's what is surprising, the menu is pretty varied but it's not so complicated that you get exhausted looking at it. Just enough to give everyone a choice and we were all about it. I had the Chipotle Shrimp Tacos with seasoned fries as my side. Really good! I was worried the Chipotle treatment might be overwhelming the shrimp but it was pretty subtle and the shrimp came through. There are plenty of sauces and seasonings on the table if you want to amp up the experience! Long waits are common for this spot. The interior is the old Ice Plant so it has great character. Not super large so limited dining spots within. Very high ceilings and though there were plenty of diners, it was overly loud. Great spot to enjoy the company you are with! Our server was top notch, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly but not trying to monopolize our table talk. We started with Cocktails which were all great. I went classic Old Fashioned, presentation AND taste were on point. We split the Crab Beignets order of 4. The breading on them was light and fluffy, the Crab tasty and they were cooked appropriately, no burns or underdone spots. For our main course, we elected to split 2 of the specials of the day so they may not be there when you go, but judging by the quality of the specials, any dish would be great. We had the Caesar Salad (which is like calling the Queen Mary2 a "boat"!). It is next level, 7 minute eggs, homemade croutons, Anchovie forward, all good! We also split an order of Shrimp Cake Sliders. These were huge, and the slaw that accompanied was the perfect match to the shrimp without overwhelming them. For dessert we settled on the Pineapple cake which also had coconut and all kinds of wonderful flavors going on! A really outstanding meal from beginning to end!

The Ice Plant location was historically St. Augustine's first power and ice complex. Now the building has been revitalized and has The Ice Plant and The St. Augustine Distillery. The St. Augustine Distillery is connected to The Ice Plant and is a great tour to check out right before heading to grab food at the restaurant. There are a variety of guided and self-guided tours. My spouse and I checked out the self-guided tour right before we grabbed dinner at The Ice Plant. The tour isn't particularly long but was filled with information. After the tour, we headed upstairs to the restaurant. The restaurant feels really spacious with its super tall ceilings. There was lots to look at reminding us of the previous use of the building. We ordered the hand cut fries, strawberry and beet salad, and the gochujang marinated pork chop. I also ordered a few of their drinks, each one featuring different types of ice to fit the drink. Honestly all the food and the drinks were so good, but the easy standout of the night for both my spouse and I were the pork chops. These might have been the best pork chops I've ever had in my life. The pork chops were incredibly tender and juicy, not dry at all. I was expecting it to be a little dry, as I feel like pork chop can sometimes get overcooked, but no. These were so juicy and tender. I asked our server how the pork chop was cooked. Our server said that the pork chops were cooked sous vide, which makes a lot of sense as to how they were so tender. I've already told my spouse if we are in the St. Augustine area again, I would make a special trip just to get these pork chops again, they were that good. I really enjoyed this restaurant. This was my favorite spot we checked out in the St. Augustine area, if you are ever passing by the area, check The Ice Plant out!

I ordered two side dishes to enjoy as I had a bigger breakfast (I regret now because this is one of those places I wish I could've had the whole menu) I ended up with their Mac & cheese and their deviled eggs. Their Mac & cheese was absolutely delicious. The cheeses they used complemented themselves together beautifully. The crispy outside and the cheesy inside. I genuinely loved every moment of every single bite. The deviled eggs are a new experience I have never had before. They really add their own twist to them with blue cheese and I normally don't fancy a blue cheese but they absolutely knew what they were doing because it complemented the yolk so well. It was such a unique flavor I've never gotten to experience with deviled eggs. And I will never forget it! With everything said in done.
