My Husband, Mother and I spent New Year's Eve at the Sunset Grille. It was a last minute decision and even though we had no reservation the owner let us come in for dinner at 11 pm as they were getting ready to close the kitchen. My Mom was feeling sad missing my Dad who has passed away - so the night was not too celebratory. The staff noticed this and gave my Mom extra attention and definitely made her smile. They were so kind and as if that was not enough the food was out of this world! My mouth is watering thinking about the creamy seafood pasta and my shrimp and grits, However top honors go to the New England Clam Chowder - it was by far the best we have ever had - no wonder they have won so many awards! The owner and staff clearly love this place and have not forgotten what good service is all about. They certainly did not need our business, as they were packed. I would like to give them an award to add to their collection; Ambassadors of St. Augustine. Don't miss this place, the food, service and prices will make this one of the best stops during your visit. (p.s we also ate at their neighbor Salt Life, cold food, unwelcoming hostess, not worth the time of money.) read more

Typical local restaurant in St. Augie's. Good seafood. I had the Asian Ahi tuna salad which made everyone else at the table jealous. fabulous! Don't miss the Menorcan chowder. read more

This restaurant claims to be dog friendly but that apparently only applies to small dogs. While waiting for a table to open up a gentleman who apparently is the manager looks at my two boys who were sitting patiently and politely waiting and says to me "I don't think you should bring those dogs in here with you". When I asked why he said are they OK and I said yes they are very social and well behaved dogs but I agree with you I don't want to spend my money here and we left. Just because my dogs are big and are pits they are not welcome. Will never go back again with or without the dogs. read more

It was delicious! We got the fish & chips platter and the coconut shrimp, as well as the chowder fries. Those were so yummy I wished I got the big size! Great portion sizes and everything tasted fresh and tasty. Everything on the menu sounded so good too, we will definitely be back to try different items! read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I have never in my life been to a restaurant that serves oysters but they don't have saltine crackers!! This used to be my favorite restaurant in St Augustine but not anymore. I ended up getting blackened shrimp but they barely had any spice on them. My point.... oysters and saltines go together like mac n cheese, salt and pepper, corona and lime.... I'm just putting it out there. Disappointed to say the least. #bringbackthecrackers read more

Had an great experience at sunset grill with my family. First, our server Joanie was right on point and a pleasure. Our appetizers were quite tasty. We had the Dang Datil Shrimp and mozzarella sticks. Our dinners were equally as tasty and well cooked and presented. We had lobsters ravioli, grilled seafood combo and the shrimp and scallop pasta. Overall a great meal and will definitely be back! read more

Excellent service, great food, strong drinks and big portions. This was our 2nd time here and will definitely keep coming back. We got the sunset oysters to start out, they were absolutely delicious. I ordered the shrimp dinner with potato wedges and black beans and rice, and my husband ordered the blackened fish sandwich with french fries. The long island ice teas were strong. I strongly recommend coming here if you're in St Augustine! read more

Good atmosphere. Good food. Staff were nice. We bought shirts while on vacation. Would definitely come back.

This place is pretty dope. After the awkward sitting yourself moment. The staff was sick. Very fast and polite service. The food was good too. read more

Fantastic seafood. You can really tell it is fresh daily. The grouper was amazing. The sauce had chunks of shrimp and fish in it that were substantial. The grilled shrimp were done perfectly. There is a reason the clam chowder is award winning. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. read more

Food was super good!! Had the sunset salad with chicken. added feta and eggs to it. I couldn't believe they had dried cranberries, they had all the exact ingredients. Our waitress Crystal was very nice and I will diff be back to eat there soon!! read more

Sunset grouper is fantastic. Crab bisque is a great starter. Service was wonderful.

I have never been disappointed here! The best NE Clam Chowder around. Last year they won first place in all categories of the Great Chowder Debate! You have to try this place. read more

Short wait, decent prices. Food portions were very generous. :-) will return!!!

Gross. Grumpy service, food prepared horribly ghetto and sloppy. Mahi was very chewy/flavorless and overly expensive and lobster ravioli was not impressive for price either. Bar atmosphere seemed nice but I would never return to waste my money on food here. read more

I was staying at the Hampton Inn and walked across the street for a quick meal and was glad I did. The staff was very nice and my meal (the ultimate seafood salad) was delicious. I sat at the bar area as the outdoor seating was full. read more

This place made me one of the best N.Y. Strips I've ever had. It was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and was the perfect size. The service was spot on and the atmosphere was great. The only reason they did not get 5 stars is because of the wait. We didn't go until later in the evening (7:00 pm) and didn't get seated until about 7:50. Then we didn't get our food till about 8:30. Honestly the food was so good that the wait was mostly worth it and I'll be going back the next time I'm in the area. read more

My husband and I went to St. Augustine Beach for our honeymoon and Sunset Grille was across the street from our condo. Great location for us to try our first meal. We both got the grilled shrimp and it was great. The shrimp were so fresh and they weren't too heavily seasoned. The server was not very good, but the food made up for it. We decided to try it again for lunch one day and both enjoyed our second meals, but got stuck with the same server. I don't need a server that is in my business trying to be my friend, but I do want someone to refill my drink when it's empty and at least ask if we want anything else instead of just giving us the check. Because it was so close, we went a third time for a late dinner. This time our server was excellent. The clam chowder was wonderful, as was the seafood ravioli. All in all, I think this is a great place to eat and we just happened to get the crappy waiter a couple times. read more

Very good food! Prices are in the 10-25 $ range but good for the money! Very nice wait staff as well! Plus the peanut butter pie is very highly recommended! read more

What a great spot to enjoy dinner. Bobbie , our server , was awesome in providing information about the specials and answering all of our questions. I tried the blackened grouper and it was exquisite in flavor and cooked to perfection covered in a delicious shrimp cream sauce. My wife tried the shrimp and scallop pasta dish that was to die for. We are definitely returning for another meal , hopefully when it's sunny so we can dine on the upper level , outside enjoying the wonderful vista of the Atlantic Ocean . read more

Great place overlooking the ocean. The food is good and it's always consistent so I can't complain but the real reason to come is the view. I love to sit on the deck and enjoy the breeze on a hot day. The staff has always been friendly and the food comes out fast. This is a great beachside restaurant. read more

Ribs were to sweet for me. If I were to order this again I would see if I could have the BBQ sauce on the side. The friend shrimp is the best I have ever eaten. Be sure to go to the left side of the restaurant to be seated. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful. I would highly recommend this place to eat. read more

See all

If you're staying on A1A on the beach and need to get some food and drinks and then stumble back to your hotel room, this is pretty much the only place to go. I had the fried fish sandwich with fries, and while it didn't knock me out of my chair it was exactly what I expected from a place like this. The drinks were reasonable, and the waitress (can't remember her name but she has a Jersey accent and is from CT) was very attentive and fun! Points for the giant poster of Tim Tebow on the cover of SI. read more

I was skeptical to try yet another restaurant by the beach serving American food, but was pleasantly surprised by what we found. The food was fresh and delicious. They accommodated food allergies and vegetarians very well. Our waitress was great and not hard to flag down. The only problem is its popularity - a 35 minute wait on a Tuesday was unexpected. But overall it was fantastic. Will definitely go here again read more

What a pleasant surprise. Very good food, very good service, reasonable prices. Wife and I went as a result of reading the key lime pie recommendations. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the calamari. First off, the calamari are superior. Tender, fresh, cooked to perfection. They serve them with a very good marinara sauce, but frankly they're best plain. The key lime pie didnt disappoint. Everything made fresh, nice tart lime but not too tart, and the crust was DELICIOUS. The downside was the shrimp and grits, and frankly I think it was an accident. The grits are cut into blocks and fried; they're very good. The shrimp was cooked like the calamari; fresh and perfect (not over-cooked). The sauce is like a fresh variation off of a tomato vegetable soup. In this case, we had a little sauce with the garlic. I think we got 3 to 5 times too much garlic. I love garlic, but this was pretty much inedible. I didnt send it back; I should've That's the good and the bad, which as I said, I think was a mistake on the sauce on the shrimp n grits. Notice, I have it 5 stars. We went back the next day and got calamari and key lime pies, to go. If you go for the shrimp n grits, ask 'em to go extra light on that garlic... :-) . read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We started off our meal with an order of crab legs that were really tasty. I ordered the Ultimate Steak Sandwich and it was by far the best steak sandwich I have ever eaten. My boyfriend's burger was tasty as well. I also had a strawberry daiquiri with my meal that was delicious. I would highly recommend dining here if you want a mix of seafood and casual food. Additionally, the view isn't too bad either. read more

Very tasty menu! Great staff and service. A great place if you are craving seafood. Amazing lunch menu and fish sandwiches!

The food was excellent, service top notch. Good staff training shows clearly. They were knowledgeable about gluten free and responsive. Would definitely go there again. read more

My boyfriend and I didn't have to wait too long to get seated, the waitress was very polite. Once we received our food, it was hot and very delicious!!! I recommend the ultimate fish sandwich or the fried shrimp! Also a great view of you sit up top on the balcony. Overall it was great!!! read more

Meh. The food was decent, frozen and fried, but bland and not really anything to write home about. The only real issue that bothered me was the insistence of the waitstaff to touch my drink straw as they walked to the table. read more

Sunset Grille - Plastic in the coleslaw - Seafood Near Me - Saint Augustine, Florida

This restaurant hates veterans! Sunset grille, 421 A1A Beach Blvd, St. Augustine, (904)-471-5555. They wouldn't take my military I.D., said it was faked by a child. I talked to the manager, she told me it was not only faked, but expired. The I.D. expires in 2016. They made a huge deal about it saying I wasn't a veteran and kicked my 8 month pregnant, wife and me. I served 6 years in the army, 1 year in Afghanistan. I've had 4 leg surgeries and permanent nerve damage in both arms. I literally have a list of what's wrong with me, because of years of military service and that's what they think of it all. read more

Stopped for lunch and had the Mahi tacos, excellent flavor and big pieces of Mahi. Sweet tea was great. Waitress was average, but sociable and nice. she was very busy which could of added to the minor mistakes. No extra plate and brought me the wrong drink for refill. Ate upstairs which was outside. Great breeze and atmosphere. Would definitely come back. read more

Our party of 4 was looking for a place with good food and nice variety when we read of Sunset on Yelp. It did not disappoint! The worst part of the experience was trying to decide how to narrow down all the choices!! The winners of the selection were the chowder, tuna, and seafood salad by my dinner companions. Myself not being a big seafood fan normally settles for less than fabulous fare at similar restaurants--BUT NOT HERE! I just had the best chicken tortellini Alfredo I've ever had! Delicious! The service was friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient! We will be returning on this trip! read more

Lunch under par- soups were great, spinach dip terrible soggy mess, main courses bland. Sunset seems to be catering to tourist not looking for repeat business with what they are cooking up. read more

If your looking for a happening place with delicious food and tasty drinks, then set your eyes on Sunset! Just arrived in St.Augustine and will be here for the next 2 months and right off the bat noticed how many great restaurants there are. Yet Sunset stands out in my mind for their great service and bomb food. A must try is the crab Rangoon dip and the fried goat cheese salad. Their soups were so good that as soon as we were done licking our bowls we had to order more. I ordered the clam chowder and had to resist the urge to order a third helping. By the end of the meal my crew and I were so stuffed and happy that we didn't want to leave. A nice touch as well was the manager came over to say hello and check on us and gave us some koozies to take home with us. We are waking up today already planning our next trip there! read more

Ultimate seafood salad was awesome!!! Patio dining upstairs and downstairs was nice too. Waitress was nice, but due to black Friday they got really busy so service was a little slow. Not her fault though! Definitely will return! read more

So great!! Shrimp and grits are incredible and the Seafood Melt is one of the best meals over ever had! Also...Tony is a greater server!!!

Absolutely wonderful food, staff, experience, and atmosphere. We had Justine as a server and she was as helpful and sweet as could be. Their steaks and mahi mahi are mouth watering as well as their pasta dishes. There is a lot to choose from. read more

Had dinner here on easter. We were seated quickly and service was very friendly and fast. I had the 12piece grilled shrimp with mixed veggies and a baked potato. The shrimp came on 3 skewers and were fairly big and juicy. Good food for the price! read more

Absolutely delicious. Go early as they fill up quickly and not enough parking for their seating capacity.
