Only one barista was on shift so the line was long and slow but that's really just a schedule issue. Stumbled upon this place during my vacay to Seattle, and I REALLY like this place! I popped on in looking for my daily caffeine fix and was very intrigued by the Powderpuff latte, so I ordered one. The best chai latte I have ever had! I do not say that lightly having been to dozens of coffee shops. My friends also agreed that they had their best lattes on our Seattle trip here! The first thing that blew me away was the affordability of this place. $5 for a small latte AND free milk alternate substitutions? I don't think I've ever seen a place that doesn't charge for oat or almond milk, making my lac-of-lactose tolerance expensive That itself makes this place great in my books. Quality wise, we got the London fog and the chai latte. The chai had a good kick, and both were good. Everything I'd expect in a good London fog. And not too sweet! I also got the vegetarian quiche because something savory with a sweet latte is the key to a good meal. I will note that although the quiche was really good, I wasn't expecting it to have (I think it was) feta cheese. But that's a personal preference so I can't blame the quiche. Each of us placed an order for the items that we wanted. This was one of the best experiences I have ever had, and the barista as well as the cashier provided excellent service all the way through. In spite of the fact that it was early in the morning, the ambiance of the cafe was quiet, but we nevertheless enjoyed ourselves before heading out to the first tourist attraction we would visit, Chihuly Garden and Glass. Stopped here for a quick breakfast before heading off on our cruise. Cashier was welcoming and friendly and quick to take our order. The inside is nicely decorated and the music isn't overwhelmingly loud. I had the danish with a vanilla latte and my husband had the bacon breakfast sandwich with a peanut butter cookie and cold brew. My coffee was hot but not so hot that I couldn't drink it and it didn't feel like it was loaded up with sugar. The cold brew was tasty and refreshing. It had tiny sugar crystals on top to sweetened the muffin but the muffin itself wasn't sweet! The inside was soft, not dense, and full of pandan flavor! There wasn't even a sign for it so we had to ask the cashier what the green pastry was but, we couldn't believe they had pandan pastries so we got it right away. Love their array of breakfast items, especially the heartier options. So often a coffeeshop will just have pastries or sweet treats, but Sugar has a number of more filling and savory items, including good breakfast foods for vegetarians. I had the vegetarian potato quiche, which I really enjoyed, as well as a scone. Both were excellent! The barista was very friendly but was working alone, which made the line move really slowly. We were on our way to the airport and were a little surprised when it took more than an half hour for the line to move through 4 people. I also thought the prices were a little high-- maybe not for Seattle, but $6 for a square of a frittata seemed a little steep. This café has a nice vibe inside and made a decent spot to catch up with friends. They have a cute little display case of professionally done baked goods, though most are quite pricey (think $8 for a tiny slice of cake). My husband got an ice cream sandwich (two chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream sandwiched inside), while I got a ham and cheese croissant. The sandwich was tasty but a complete mess to eat, as the cookies weren't soft enough to sandwich the ice cream without it gushing out the sides with each bite. The croissant was quite good with nicely laminated pastry and a cheesy flavor that was more complex than I was expecting. I appreciated that they offered to heat it up for me, though it was still barely warm when it came out of the warmer. This makes a cute neighborhood café/bakery (it's more of a café than a bakery to be honest), though as a tourist, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

This place has grown on me. The problem is, they are so popular its hard for me to get there on a day when people haven't already purchased all the good stuff. Usually when I arrive 75% of their items are gone. If I didn't get lucky a few times and come in when they had a full selection I would think this location is the worst. I really enjoy their layout having seattle all around and the counter in the center. It's like a dessert bar. So easy to come in with a work machine and work while munching on all their yummy food items. I can't vouche for their drinks as I've only had a lemon san pelligrino. They seem pretty limited with drinks no matter when I come, but their water is always available and that's pretty much what I always drink. The other thing I love about this bakery is their location, it really doesn't get any better. You can literally park here in the morning and leave at night. Why? Well it's right by the climate pledge and space needle park. I feel like I came on a Saturday and spent an entire day within 3 blocks of this location, including coming to this sugar bake spot twice... Good times. Thanks to this place I have an excuse to come early with the pup and just enjoy the day. Rain or shine. Don't forget to try their cakes. Very unique. I saw in their display they had quite a few cakes that looked really good, so I ended up trying their carrot cake. I liked the cream cheese frosting that wasn't too heavy and had some tang. The carrot cake itself had some walnuts for some texture and was pretty good. It was a tad dry, but eaten with the frosting it was good. This was the perfect mid morning snack for me. Sugar Bakery & Coffeehouse was located nearby our next destination and so we stopped by before heading to the Space Needle. The coffee shop is spacious, hip, and nicely decorated. I could definitely see myself here hanging out, doing some work, and all that good stuff if I lived in the city. It was about 1/2 hour before closing, but there were still a handful of people inside. Also, because it was near closing, their pastry and sweets selection were a little sparse and nothing really caught my eye. Definitely head here early to get the best selection! I decided to go safe and went for my usual iced mocha and my other half got an iced matcha. Service was very friendly and we got our drinks quickly. Overall, my iced mocha tasted ok, pretty standard, and did the job. My husband however didn't really enjoy his matcha and said it lacked that matcha flavor. Bummer! I would still recommend checking it out as they had a wide selection of not only coffees, but also baked goods like cakes, croissants, cookies, etc. Not to mention, they're just around the corner from the Space Needle and have great eateries nearby. read more

I've been here a couple times on my Saturday coffee walks and really enjoy it. The space is big and bright with lots of natural light in the mornings. The decor is cute and there are even plants for sale. The needle view is a an added bonus! Dogs are allowed inside which is a big plus for me because my dogs love my Saturday morning coffee walks as much as I do! The bakery display has so many good options. I LOVE the havarti croissant. To guarantee her getting the Crème Brûlée Cake instead of a substitute (the site makes you select two alternative slices), I had to order the entire cake, but worth it. Customer service this time was not satisfactory as 3 people were working and only one person spoke and that was after i was all the way to the register after looking at the cookies and cakes and slowly making my way, waiting for a greeting and only one person was in front of me. Decided to give this place a try again when my family wanted a quick coffee and bakery items for breakfast. I went in with my inlaws who are visiting from California this morning. The sign said they open at 7:30 and it was 7:30 as we were walking in. The door was unlocked and when we went inside the lights were off and no one was at the counter, all of a sudden an employee walked out from the back, saw us standing there and shook his head and rolled his eyes at us and didn't say anything so I moved closer and asked "are you open?" and his response was "well the lights are off, no one is here, and we open at 7:30, the sign is on the door" I pulled my phone out and showed him that according to the sign they should be open now, he then sighed and just said "what can I get you?" I should have turned around and told him how rude he was and told him never mind but we ordered and now I regret it. I got a basic matcha latte and unfortunately it's also pre sweetened and they don't have any unsweetened matcha options. Matcha was mid, the bakery item I got wasn't great, and service is awful and rude. Not sure how this place has good reviews.
