The cafe is cozy with both bench and stool seating, some of which are by the full length windows facing the city. Would definitely return on my next visit to Seattle. I always enjoy checking out new coffee shops, so I was excited when I saw this one near me. I was surprised to see macarons and several breakfast items. The shop was clean and I liked that the menu was simple and straight forward with some coffee and tea options. This cafe and this hotel (connected to the Fairmont Olympic in Seattle) has been horrific for the entirety of the week we've stayed here. Every morning they run out of cups for coffee (today we got one of the last 12 oz cups) and they always show empty display cases of sandwiches or pastries (and the stuff that's left are all "spoken for" - meaning they're already sold to other customers). There aren't even that many people here in town for Thanksgiving week when the City is virtually empty, and mind you, it's only 9:30 am or so whenever we drop in for food and coffee! Very disappointed with our stay and the choices for food, especially because we had a $72 food credit each morning in connection with our 5-day stay because we are Amex Platinum cardholders and paid a premium to book our room through the Amex Travel portal. We had a very difficult time using our credit each morning and it was definitely not the platinum travel experience we are accustomed to with other Fine Resorts and Hotel experiences. First of all, this place is hard to find - it's located inside a hotel but is very unassuming from the street so I ended up making an unnecessary loop around the building. The pastry selection was a bit disappointing, especially based on some of older photos I saw on Yelp. I got the chocolate croissant and it was just fine, nothing special and didn't taste fresh baked. I also got a hot tea but it was very disappointing (how on earth do you mess up a tea bag tea!?) Sadly there are not many other options in the area early in the morning, but I would not recommend this spot. read more

Excellent coffee! I think they use Ladro beans, perhaps? Stayed at the W when in town for work and this was my go-to coffee spot every morning. Really enjoyed the bistro style coffee spot, lots of space to sit, and really tasty lattes. read more

The service was excellent! It's a cute spot that seems to get a steady flow of customers. They were very efficient. Everything we ordered was excellent. The Olympic Honey Latte was not too sweet with great flavor. The Almond Croissant was flaky and also had great flavor. I would recommend trying both. The Manager(?) stopped by our table to see how everything was. He told us about the bees they have on the rooftop that produce the honey used in the latte. This cafe is pretty good. We ordered breakfast sandwiches and found both (one bagel, one croissant) to be a bit sweet. My latte was mediocre, but my fiancé liked his black coffee. If I came back, I would try the quiche. The guy working the counter was great--he was quick and kind. The best seasonal danish I have ever eaten or remember. It was flaky, sweet and sour, melting in your mouth kind of pastry. Also their croissants are flakey and delicious. Capuccinos were great. This coffee shop is in the Fairmont Olympic hotel premises and also accessible from the street which makes it very frequented. Small space but packed with somehow Art Deco charm. My colleagues also complimented the color palette and also having real newspapers to read, like in the old cafes. read more

Expectations were super high for a bar tucked away in the bowels of the incredible Fairmont Olympic. Most 5-star hotels set the bar high for the quality of coffee, sense of decor, and uniqueness of service. I left quite deflated for quite a few reasons - The cafe itself didn't' reflect the opulence and grandeur of its location, and the decor was average at best. The food options were very limited (the display case was almost bare), giving a strange sense of scarcity and lack of planning, esp in such a popular hotel. The baristas were super friendly and hospitable, which was probably its only redeeming quality. I opted for an espresso and mocha, which were nothing remarkable in their taste, presentation, or delivery. Def a missed opportunity to wow at all levels. read more

Nice shot and it's served in the cutest, hippest fashion: on a wooden plank with some sparkling water in a tiny Mason jar. Cute. Hipster. Like it. If you're staying at the Fairmont, the cafe is located on the Lower Lobby level, and is perfect for a quick morning caffeine fix or a late afternoon sweet treat. I loved the decor, which reminded me of something you'd find in New York, and the complexity of the treats. Many of the sweets averaged $6.00, yes this can be heafty but for me I thought it was reasonable since the sweets are practically little forms of art. I tried the carrot cake and raspberry fruit tart (which comes topped with a raspberry macaron), and the tart was my favorite. I thought the carrot cake had a little too much icing, which distracted from the overall taste. Meanwhile, the raspberry tart was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Next time, I'll pair the tart with an espresso. The first time I came in, I mentioned to the cashier that I was staying at the hotel and asked if there were any discounts for guests. He ignored my question, and rang up my order. I shrugged it off, thinking that maybe this wasn't the case as the hotel wasn't being upfront about any discounts either. However, a few minutes later an older couple came in with the same question and he enthusiastically confirmed with them the discount and how to go about it (charging it to their room). The second time I came in, I asked the cashier and thankfully he was upfront and happy to explain how it worked. I told him about the inconsistent service when I asked the previous day, and he assured they'd speak to their staff about it. Overall, I'd still go back if I'm in the area for a treat, but if you're staying in the hotel be sure you have them charge it to your room. I wouldn't rely on staying at the cafe for an extended amount of time to work, as it seemed to be quite crowded during the early afternoons and seating is pretty limited (I don't think there were many outlets either). read more

4th Ave is a patisserie and coffee shop located streetside at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel. It replaced Belle Epicurean earlier this year which moved to new digs elsewhere in downtown Seattle. The decor looks pretty similar, but the offerings have improved with the change. Belle Epicurean had a focus on French pastries, while this new shop has a focus on patisserie (particularly cakes) and cafe fare. While the pastry selection is smaller, the offerings are of good quality. Picked up a chives & cheese scone ($3.50) and a twice baked almond rum croissant ($4.25) on my way to work. The scone was moist and tastes even better once you toast it. As for the almond croissant, I think it matches well with the famed version at Bakery Nouveau. The croissant is huge and full of almonds with a nice creamy filling. I would gladly get one here again if I can't make my way up to Capitol Hill to get one from Bakery Nouveau since the taste is pretty similar. The cafe has some limited hours but is open daily (6 am-3 pm). I definitely want to try their cake selection next time I visit. read more

In Seattle on vacation and there are so many coffee shops here, I wanted to try something new besides Starbucks. This popped up on Yelp and was close by so I stopped in. Such a quaint and cute coffee shop inside the Fairmont Hotel with a good selection of pastries and desserts to choose from. There are about eight tables with a couple high top tables next to the window. I got an iced coffee and twice baked almond croissant. The coffee was very good the croissant was crunchy, flaky and hit the spot. The desserts looked amazing so think I may have to come back and try one before we leave. read more

This spot is part of my morning coffee rotation I go to in the downtown area. It's where Belle Epicurean used to be, connected to the Fairmont Olympic Hotel. The place looks roughly the same from before, great case of nice looking pastries, sandwiches and desserts. I'm pretty sure the hotel makes all the food there, not sure which kind of coffee they use but the drip is pretty good, they make a pretty mean latte, and they also provide alternative kinds of milks (almond, soy, oat, not sure of hemp). I tried a few pastries already, they are pretty good, nicely made, especially the fruit tarts. Their sandwiches look real good and all of the pastries are quite mouthwatering when staring at them. Prices are on the high side, staff is friendly, I like they are open early and it's never been too busy before 7am, they are pretty quick to get your coffee and food order all set up. Glad I put them in my rotation, will keep coming by. It seems to get busy later in the day as people seem to have meetings there, work from there, meet & greets, hotel guests etc. read more

Cafe in the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, with a dessert selection worth checking out for your cheat day! I pass by the 4th Ave Espresso Bar every time I get off the bus on my way into work, and always see how busy it is in the morning. I decided to finally check out during a meeting and am glad I did. I was surprised to see how much more this 4th Ave Espresso Bar offers, beyond just coffee. Although you can get all specialty espresso drinks here, they have really great iced teas and desserts! The hotel's dessert chef makes all the desserts for this cafe, and they are all so purrrdy. From small pastries and bites to multi-tier cakes, they have something for every sweet tooth. In my most recent visit I ordered an iced lavender honey tea with a slice of a chocolate cake (hey, I was sharing, mmmkay?). The iced lavender honey tea was refreshing and loved the lavender flavor within. The honey added was a tad too sweet to my liking, but am glad I tried it, for a nice afternoon break from my usual earl grey tea or black coffee. The chocolate cake was solid! My friend enjoyed it more than I had, especially the crackle-like texture on the edge of the cake, adding some crunch, as if it tasted like it had crisped rice pieces. My only minor gripe with the cake is that I wished the cake itself was more soft. The cake tasted like it was chilled in a fridge, so texture was more stiff than I would've liked. However, if you have a chocolate fix, this is definitely a competitor with the other desserts. Glad to have 4th Ave Espresso Bar so near to where I work. I imagine I'll come back to check out their other desserts, like the earl grey cookies or funfetti cake. (If I share with a friend, that's okay then, right?) read more

The rosy cheek latte is so good! It's peppermint and rose. Not too sweet and the peppermint isn't overpowering. A perfect sip.

The nicest people work here, I think I love them. I stopped in for a breve since I was staying at the W next door (where the coffee options are yuck), and I'm glad I did! The space is really well done, quiet, comfy, and classy. Great place to read the paper, probably not the best place to let the kids run around. Looked like a tasty deli selection, but most importantly, the coffee is really good; I consider myself a breve latte connoisseur and I'd rate theirs as one of the best I've had. read more

The good: 1) breakfast sandwich was delicious and properly reheated (they are kept in a glass case, I think refrigerated); 2) Shop is clean, orderly, pleasant and well maintained. The bad: 1) the cappuccino was thin, lackluster, and had over-frothed foam....surprising for Seattle, if nothing else. This is a training issue as the elements of the coffee that need improvement can all be resolved with proper technique; 2) secondly.....after my heated sandwich was cut and plated and the server announced that it was ready, only *then* did he ask, "um, in order to dine in, I'll need to see your vaccination card". "Sure, but this isn't something that you could have asked me before you put it on a plate?" "Oh, I just forgot" No apology, no courtesy. Not what I would expect from The Fairmont. read more

This coffee shop is my coworkers' favorite spot to grab team coffees, and I am so glad they recommended it to me! So far, I have tried the Twice-Baked Almond Croissant, Chocolate Croissant, and Olympic Honey Latte (with Oat Milk). Contrary to my coworkers' opinions, I think the chocolate croissant is better than the almond croissant. But this is probably due to my personal preference of chocolate flavors and overall crunch factor. The chocolate croissant is not just a normal croissant with chocolate inside, but rather a chocolate-based croissant dough WITH more chocolate inside. It is not overly sweet, and the inside was perfectly chewy with a crunchy exterior. The Olympic Honey Latte also blew my mind away! It was nice and frothy, and the honey was extremely fragrant. Along with honey flavors, the cinnamon/nutmeg really came through and paired really well! I will definitely be coming back for this latte!! The frosting wasn't to excess, which can often be an issue with cakes. It was perfect! The croissant was flaky, buttery goodness! It is everything a croissant should be! I loved it. I can't wait to go back next time I am nearby! Accessibility: This place is generally accessible. It has tables and chairs. It is a small cafe with not too much seating, but nearly all the seating are tables and chairs. There are a couple high tables and booth benches, but chairs are the majority. Noise was not an issue when I was here around noon. Parking downtown is an issue and there is no parking here except at the hotel. There is also limited street parking in this area.
