Went here with my family and it would probably be my second time to eat here. Half of us enjoyed the food, the other half sadly did not. This is a type of restaurant where you order as soon as you enter, you sit down, and they give you what looks like a pager but I think it's more of a tracking device so they know where you're sitting to deliver the food. Here's what we ordered: -FOOD- Salmon with lemon garlic seasoning 4 salads breadsticks Tropical iced tea Coffee Tri tip (barbecue) with chicken breast Tri tip (barbecue) with 1/4 grilled chicken Tri tip (barbecue) with baby back ribs Nutty coleslaw Salads were so good, really good portions and I got the chili lime dressing and it was so good! I would definitely recommend their garden salads. Breadsticks were good and bad, some were perfectly cooked and the others were cooked too much. Tropical iced tea was so bitter!!! I was so disappointed because I love tropical tea and how can you mess that up! And I didn't want to drink soda so I tried their peach tea from the dispenser and at first tasted good, but after awhile became way too sweet. The good thing is that you can refill your drinks on your own and choose any other drink you want. There is also a coffee dispenser which is rare to find in a restaurant too. I tried the nutty coleslaw and I really liked the ingredients and also the dressing, it wasn't your typical coleslaw. My salmon was delicious!!! Then lemon garlic was so good, I even dipped my breadstick in it to soak in the flavors. I don't think I liked the big chunks of garlic though, it was a bit too big for me. I tried the chicken breast and it was sooo yummy, so tender and the flavors were good, also got the lemon garlic on that one. My family also liked the grilled chicken, said she really liked the big pieces of garlic and the flavor was good too. Now for the disappointment...the Tri tip. I think this is actually a popular dish here but my family had mixed reviews. It was not consistent in flavor and in cuts. Some liked it and some really did not like it, didn't even finish their portion of it. I tried it and didn't really care for it either, it just wasn't very good. They also said the baby back ribs weren't good either, didn't really fall of the bone and leave the bone clean. Service was great at the beginning but then disappeared towards the end. We were waiting for the carrot cake and it was hard to get someone to bring it to us. I did like that fact that you can serve yourself when it comes to the utensils, napkins, and I really love the fact that you can get the boxes on your own to pack yourself. Since then I've heard great things about it so I've returned to reassess. And it's pretty good. Pricey but delicious. Incredibly open and spacious. Still has management/logistical problems -- took forever to take our order and sit down. They provide buzzers that don't work and essentially function as table numbers -- but worse because they're not raised or visible. Overall it took a while to be seated, then took a while to get food. The first time we ate here, we ordered the following: -Stonefire's BBQ chopped ($13.29 for 2-5 people): mesquite BBQ chicken breast with mixed greens, black beans, roasted corn, carrots, red cabbage, cilantro, Jack cheese, tortilla strips, tomato, scallions + buttermilk ranch -tri-tip + ribs ($17.99) -salmon ($21.49 for 1lb) - lemon garlic flavor -pesto pasta ($11.79 for 2-5 people): rigatoni pasta in pesto sauce It's BBQ-y. It's distinct in flavor. And it feels like all your favorite flavors in one setting - lemon garlic, pesto, BBQ - it's like a giant picnic. I've been back several times since then. I usually order a single entree of pesto pasta and a protein combo - lemon garlic chicken heeeyyy - so I get garlic mashed potatoes and bread sticks too. Honestly, if you're feeding a large crowd, Stonefire Grill is a good bang for your buck. The portions are large and reasonably priced. So.. Stonefire is usually one of our go-to's for takeout, but today we made the mistake of dining in. The food was fine, service so-so. It was the environment that pretty much ruined our appetites. I should've known something was off when I went to get water and there was a swarm of baby flies bouncing back and forth from one machine to the other. However, I brushed that feeling off, along with the flies, and proceeded to our table to wait for our meal. Well, the flies decided to join us and the brushing and swatting away continued. We couldn't even get through a quarter of our meal because of all the shoo-ing we were doing, our 7 yr old included. Our server also mentioned he was missing a breadstick for our kid's meal and he'd be back with it, but he never returned. 1 breadstick, not a big deal, but could've sworn the kid's meal came with mandarin oranges or something as well? This place is lousy. First impression is, damn this food is pricey! It must be good. I ordered the tri tip (the bigger ounces), with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. Luckily I had joined the reward program and got $10 off. Btw, giving so much off is a red flag, the food is either way too over priced, or the quality sucks so you have to give a discount to lure people in. Anyways, it smelled good in this fast food place, i say fast food place because you order at the front/ sit yourself/ grab your own untencils and drinks etc, so I had high hopes. Getting my food, i see a HUGE mound of mashed potatoes, with cheese in it. Right off the bat It looks dry, flavorless, and pale. Tasting it, no garlic, dry, tasted reheated, and the cheese was the only thing that made it worth taking more bites. When i was digging my fork in i saw burnt pieces, which tells me either it was reheated in an untraditional way or when cooking they burnt the bottom and when serving me they scraped the bottom. Now the tri tip, presentation was spectacular, i got half bbq and half pepper, i got bbq and i think garlic butter. The bbq barely had sauce so i couldnt tell, the garlic butter wasnt melted and globed on the center. I still had hopes. Taking a bite i realized ima be chewing like a cow for the duration of this visit. Every piece i put in my mouth was chewy, tasteless, and well, i ate about 4 pieces and gave the rest away. The mac and cheese was disappointing, i could not finish it for the life of me. There is no way they cook it fresh. The pasta was hard, the cheese was thin and tasteless. Almost forgot about the breadsticks....they were skinny, airy, and short-little caesars breadsticks are superior. Now time for the last resort...dessert. I ordered a brownie because that was the only thing that sounded good-guess what? Sold out. They compensated with a slice of carrot cake. I hate carrot cake but my wife does so she was happy. After the quality of this expensive food, I will never be visiting ever again. I am NOT paying restaurant prices for a fast food place that serves low quality food. The ONLY thing good about this place was the service. Came here after visiting the brea mall with my teen and boyfriend. We got the stimulus package which is $40 to serve 4 people. We ordered the tri tip, 2 topping pizza and garden salad. The tri tip was perfectly cooked medium and the pizza was just ok. The salad was good with the citrus ginger dressing. It also came with bread sticks. Overall it's a great deal because if you order the individual meals they are already $18-$20 per person. I would recommend this place for a lot of food at a decent price. We went in for lunch with a group of four people and each of us ordered what we liked, but we decided to order a basket of breadsticks to share at the table. They never brought out the breadsticks, and after asking three different people over a period of 30 minutes, I finally decided to give up and I approached the manager to ask for a refund. She promptly issued a refund on my credit card, and in her arrogant manner never so much as even offered an apology for the inconvenience. Amazing customer service and the way they handled an entitled crazy woman. I was sitting nearby and she went in to complain about an order that she had messed up. The customer placed an order for a different date apparently and demanded the workers to fix the order immediately. The employees handled the situation very professionally and friendly. There was 2 young ladies handling the issue and even after the way the woman spoke and treated them I saw one of the employee, assuming its a manager, still kindly offered to help bring her order to her car. This American dining experience at the stone fire grill was overall good. However, there were certain things they could improve on. They never brought the dressing for our salad. They never brought barbecue sauce for our ribs and they never told us we had to get it ourselves. The barbecue sauce dispenser was hidden in a discrete location of in a far corner of the restaurant. It wasn't clear that we needed to get it ourselves. The food itself was really delicious. I love the juicy, tender, and flavorful ribs. The breadsticks were generously covered in herbs and butter. The mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth. The portion of the half rack of ribs was a generous size. Alright so I needed to try something other than the salads, right? Yes. Enter the salmon. This salmon is so deliciously moist and covered in a lemon garlic seasoning. Wow! Impressive. I ate every little bit of it. I ordered it with a side of he garlic mashed potatoes, a perfect pairing.... oh and a breadstick or two? Don't mind if I do. While I'm on the subject, those sides! It's our first time here, and it was pretty good. Portions were about right, nothing too overly exciting but just about right for a mall restaurant. Hubby had the chicken. He said it was a little dry but still had good flavor. I had the brisket and rib combo. I'd say about the same thing - ribs were dry on the outside and more tender toward the middle. Brisket was good; I've had more tender with smokier flavor elsewhere. I liked the mashed potatoes; full of flavor. My friend had the salad with steak on top. She liked it. Four in our group all got sick. I ordered a cheeseburger, had to return / disgusting. I ordered Salmon it was drenched in oil, i only ate the top and I have been sick to my stomach with nausea since. The food is absolutely disgusting and honestly I have no idea how this place is even open and people actually eat here. The chases tells me my pick up will be delayed for 15 mins and acted as if she is doing me a favor. Where is keeping the customers in mind first. Manager was no where to be found.
