The gnudi was the best Italian dish that I ever had.. perfect marinating sauce with some white creamy sauce and these divine cheese spinach balls and a sprinkling of walnut crunch paired with a red wine.... Yum. My partner has the seafood risotto and really enjoyed it! We also enjoyed the crème grille and the tiramisu... don't miss their version of it! Delish. Quiet vibe to catch up with family and done cool piano sounds in the background. Of course the room is beautiful with the old historic vibe. Glad we tried it! My friends had the duck and the lamb, the lamb was okay but everyone tried the scallops and agreed that the scallops tasted the best, really melted in your mouth with the salmon roe! My friend got the Dirty Dancer cocktail and didn't really care for it, but it was really strong so at least she got her moneys worth! Finally got to try this place and it did not disappoint! We went at the on a warmer day in the fall so we sat outside in the patio area and it's so cute! I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the ambience of this restaurant and the service was superb as well. Now to the food, everything we ordered was so good and the presentation of the food was beautiful too which is always a big plus for me! We ordered couple bottles of wine so next time I do want to try their cocktails because it looks really good! My favorite appetizer was the heirloom tomatoes! It was so flavorful and so fresh! It came with asparagus and we added burrata on top! The sage cauliflower radiatori pasta was good but wish it had a little more flavor in it. I loved the tagliatelle bolognese! The portions are good size and I definitely can't wait to go back when it's warmer and try their other dishes and cocktails. read more

Stella, located in the historic Hotel Sorrento, offers hearty meals with an extensive selection of delicious drinks and wine! They are open on all holidays to my knowledge so it is the best place to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas with your friends and loved ones if you decide not to cook at home. There is even a large, covered, and heated outdoor dining area to make group dining extra safe during the continued pandemic. 1) Service (+): Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. On holidays, there is a special menu with options for both a la carte and prix fixe and reservations need to be made on OpenTable in advance as they are often overbooked. 2) Ambience (+): I love the cozy and rustic vibe of the restaurant that they were even able to replicate outdoors. 3) Food (+): We came here for Thanksgiving and shared a selection of amazing dishes from the a la carte dinner menu. There is also a separate Thanksgiving prix fixe menu. We were thrilled that there was still turkey on the a la carte menu - complete with gravy, stuffing, chestnut dressing, mashed potatoes and French beans. For a side, we got the truffle and parmesan fries, which were delicious! We also had the Pappardelle Bolognese and the diver scallops - both were very good. Next time, I will have to try the "Stella Just wants a Burger"! 4) Alcohol/Drinks (+): There is a very large selection of decadent cocktails and wines. We ordered several rounds of drinks, which were super unique and delicious, including "Under the Bhodi Tree," a tropical blend of lemongrass and Thai chilli infused gin, lemon, ginger pepper jelly and soda water; and "Hear, Pear and Everywhere," a boozy concoction of rum, pear liquer, port, and chocolate bitters. 5) Value for Money (+): The prices are very reasonable for the quality and diversity of options with prices in the $10-$15 range for smaller tapas and $20-30 for the meat and seafood entrees. read more

This is a quirky little bar and restaurant across the street from Virginia Mason my brother and I frequent it regularly while my dad is getting treatment. I've had breakfast lunch and dinner here and never been disappointed. Their appetizers and meals are all delicious and their prices are good. In the summer, it's always nice to be able to sit outside. They have a great variety of seating either in the sun or shade. read more

Can't say enough about this hidden jewel on Seattle's First Hill. The food, service and ambiance are truly outstanding. The pasta al forno was perfect, full of flavor and not too heavy. And I can't say enough about the tiramisu... I paired mine with a lovely espresso while enjoying the live piano music. I'm from Seattle and have frequented the Hotel Sorrento multiple times and most recently have had several things off the menu. By far, Chef Austin serves the best pasta dish I've ever had. Not only does he prepare the gnocchi to perfection, the sauce he prepares is the best I have ever had. I would recommend HS and this dish, in particular, every time. read more

Wow! What a totally amazing experience we had at Stella! The first introduction that we had to Stella was meeting Travis over Oyster on the Half Shell with Cucumber Mignonette in the Fireside room, who is one of the better mixologists. Travis made bar-none, the best Corpse Reviver #1 I have tasted, as well other very lovely cocktails, all the while conversing pleasantly and giving us a warm welcome to Seattle. Staying at Hotel Sorento before our cruise, we ate at Stella. The food was outstanding, but the hostess was unwelcoming and unhappy, the waiter the same. Sad for such a nice restaurant and Hotel. The next night we went to their eloquent bar, and the hostess from last night was the bartender, and same miserable rude attitude, and added her 20% tip without mentioning it. (I would have tipped her 20 anyway because I felt sorry for her, not because she deserved it). Management of the Restaurant need to seriously train there employees or let them go, because they are unhappy and miserable. Our waiter (Travis) was exceptional at providing helpful information/descriptions about the the food. He could describe every dish we asked about in detail and displayed superb understanding of the nuances of food preparation/presentation. The old hotel has hard, solid wood everywhere. (no animal heads on the wall but i'll bet there were at one time - just a joke, i don't actually know). Bar played classic rock-n-roll, a bit louder than we would have wanted but it was great music. Then the band started playing in the other room and the kept the music on in bar - that was odd. Wait staff was not so good about bringing serving utensils - we had to ask as least 2-3 times throughout the meal. 1) English pea/Burrata dish was good. My son thought the tapenade was very good but could have been highlighted better in another dish. 2) Chickpea Fritto - good, definitely not great. Some of the pieces were tiny - turned into veritable rocks of batter. I appreciate the effort put into the oregano aioli, but i'd have preferred a traditional cocktail sauce; at the least more of the aioli. 3) Octopus - very good. We shared one order for appetizer and then my son ordered a 2nd serving for part of his main. I'd go back for that - 100%. 4) Risotto Arancini - Very good. Fried!! Crusty outside but soft and succulent on the inside. Great for sharing. 5) Grilled prawn - very good, but shrimp was overcooked. I get the high heat to char the outside, but these were definitely overcooked [period]. Still a good dish; shrimp paired nicely with asparagus and pesto. 6) my friend really seemed to like her scallops. My wife had the bolognese but by the time it arrived she was pretty full so i don't recall getting a report. I think she repackaged it and tossed it in the freezer. 7) Dessert: the little fried balls of something were amazing - the berry compote was superb (!!!!) - i'd get those again for sure (100%). And the pear was good too just not as memorable (for me). Final comment: we went for a celebration and had a really really great time. Our table was comfortable, nice set up (save for the oddities about the music and serving utensils) and it was splendidly memorable. That said, if you travel, and eat in places like NYC, Paris, SF, Chicago, Charleston, LA,.. just remember - you're in Seattle. The bar is set differently in those other places. read more

Saturday brunch time. Service was long. It took a good amount of time for the food come out. The ambience is a sweet outdoor courtyard which is great during the summers, but beware that it's near a lot of hospitals and the ambulances pass by enough to notice. Food wise: I got the truffles fries + blt; friend got eggs benny. Both well made, but special? Not really. If you're close by, it's summer months, and it's convenient, not a bad spot. read more

Love this place! This was my second year in a row celebrating my birthday here with a ~12ish person group, and once again, Stella did not disappoint. Really cool ambiance. Tasty food all around. We felt really welcome by our awesome waiter Elijah, who was always on top of it and making sure we were taken care of. We definitely stayed way past close but never felt rushed. It was also really easy to organize a group event here. I just emailed the restaurant (originally thought we would have a bigger group) and they were super responsive and accommodating with helping put it together. I'd definitely recommend it! read more

I ordered the shrimp scampi, and it was just okay. This is my third stay at Hotel Sorrento, and on my previous two visits to Stella, I absolutely loved the food. The roasted chicken and truffle fries, which were on the menu back in March, were my favorites. However, on this recent visit, I was disappointed with the meal--and so was my entire party. My friends, who live in Seattle and have dined with me at Stella before, were also looking forward to a delicious meal. Unfortunately, both my friend and my boyfriend ordered the Bolognese, and it came out cold. My friend even sent hers back and asked to have it microwaved, feeling uncomfortable but justified since the food is pricey. My boyfriend, on the other hand, just suffered in silence. The lounge was packed, so perhaps the restaurant is attracting more guests now, and maybe they've let the quality slip a bit to accommodate the higher volume. For me, part of the appeal of staying at Sorrento is the restaurant. I should say that the service and hospitality were still excellent. As someone who values hotels with great in-house dining for convenience, I might reconsider staying at Sorrento until they improve their kitchen. read more

I was looking at my reviews and saw they were all so grumpy so I thought I better appreciate some things. STELLA is pretty stellar. The outdoor seating (and inside) feel really special - like an escape from the everyday while still staying in the city. The standard for service is really high and the staff Work hard to be very accommodating. The food is good - not amazing but very good and fresh tasting. Called to see if we could get a table they said outside would be hours of waiting, but inside is immediate. Okay, so why not try it? Inside is standard right?? I WISH the receptionist was more honest about what the seating was like. When the host took us to the table he walked us allllll the way back to the location. So far that I thought he was gonna kick us out? Or make us work in the kitchen? Idk The room they took us to was like a cigar lounge or something... it has this old timey, dusty, stuffy vibe to it. Ugh okay whatever. We're hungry so let's look at the menu. Server took a while to give us menus and check up on us. The menu seemed different from what other yelpers posted. It was a lot smaller. Just commented last night to a friend that I need to come back here again (and that they need to try Stella)! Between the ambiance and the food, this place is a hidden gem that I used to drive by every day and finally decided to give a shot. The food was exceptional and the drinks were *chefs kiss*. I had a great server who knew all the dishes/cocktails to recommend based on my preferences. We had the Risotto Arancini (highly recommend splitting this as a starter), Diver Scallops and Succotash, Pappardelle Bolognese, and the rustic potato with whipped butter. I would get EVERYTHING again, but I'm also dying to try everything else on the menu. Can't wait to go back! read more

My husband and I booked a reservation here 2 weeks in advance and I am so glad we decided to give it a try! The food was amazing, especially for the price. My husband is usually a picky eater but he liked everything and even said he would come back again. Usually I have leftovers but we finished everything because it was so good. We shared the filet and they were very accommodating, since I cant eat rare meat but my husband loves it, they made sure the edges were 100% cooked so that I could eat the edges and my husband could eat the rest. My favourite dish was probably the fried ravioli and the bolognese but everything tasted great. The atmosphere was very cute and following Covid19 rules. My husband was a little chilly but I think it could just be because we sat in view of the door and it was a windy day (i wasnt cold at all). Parking was very very easy. We had an amazing dinner at Stella! The outside seating area is a beautiful and perfect location for a romantic night out or getting some cocktails with friends. Chef Carolynn Spence's (formerly of Shake & Spear) food was impeccable as we tried the codfish fritters app which were light and heavenly. We also tried the heirloom tomato and asparagus dish which was bright and delightful. For entrees, we had a classic linguini and clam sauce which was perfectly seasoned sparked with some chopped zucchini. We also had the steelhead and asparagus dish which caused explosions in my mouth with mixtures of the saffron aioli and anchovies pate that partnered with the beautiful filet of steelhead. Phenomenal. For desert we had the delicious poached pear stuffed with cheesecake on an island of delicious cracked gram crackers. Lastly, the staff were so helpful and kind. The patio just transports you to another world! So beautiful and calming. This was our first time here in several years (it was Dunbar then) and it didn't disappoint. I liked the limited menu. Probably a product of covid but I like how this forced restaurants to be selective with what they offer. Entrees are on pricy side but you're paying for the aesthetic and experience too. Drinks - tried the white negroni (yum - very dry to my surprise) and a couple different red glasses. As expected prices for cocktails and wine in Seattle. Especially liked the Chianti by the glass. Drier acidic medium bodied red that paired nicely with pasta. Apps - tried arancini and octopus salad. Arancini was tasty and the servers reco - but quite small. Just 4 small pieces for $11. Octopus was tasty on a large bed of greens. Interesting that it was on skewers with tomatoes so it did seem like unnecessary extra work to unskew and consume the salad but the octopus was cooked nicely. Entrees - shared papperdelle and branzino. Pasta was house made and tasted this way. Nice, slightly thicker pasta that took on the ragu flavor nicely. The branzino was amazing! I don't normally pick fish dishes but I loved how this was prepared with the beans and potatoes. Yum. Great evening and lovely service by Allie. I judge an Italian place by their pasta. Which is a shame because all the other non-pasta dishes were great. The bolognese tasted worse than canned chef Boyardee. It was overcooked. Sauce was bland. Tasted like mush with a hint of tomato flavor. In their defense they did offer to bring something else out but they only checked on us after 15 mins (not the standard 2 min post drop off check up) and so I ate other people's food because I was starving. 3 out of 7 dishes were this bolognese. It was horrible. Do not get pasta here. read more

I attended Stella last week with some family members for a wonderful day of outdoor dining. For it to be the second weekend of them being open, everything went pretty smooth. Service at times was slow but I kind of appreciated it. I absolutely love their drinks and plan on returning next week The only hiccup that happened was that my octopus salad did not come out but the manger quickly fixed it and comped it from my bill. The salad was absolutely amazing! Very view places offer that dish here. I also had a side of their tomato basil soup which I will be ordering again in the future.
