Caprese Melt
Christine B.

I've had a few different experiences here. The first 2-3 times was trying to get dinner and finding they were no longer seating for dinner. They close at 8pm even on First Thursdays in Pioneer Square when there are tons of people in the area for the art walk. I got lunch once and while the service was good, honestly the portion of the caprese sandwich was too big for lunch. I wish they offered a smaller version for a lower price. But it's the same menu/sizes/price for lunch and dinner. While the focaccia is good, it was too heavy and the sandwich felt greasy. I didn't finish it and was too full and felt kinda sick the rest of the afternoon. Months later we finally got here before the 8pm close and were able to get dinner. The pasta was much better than the sandwich. We ordered focaccia as a starter and although I was nervous given my last experience, it was better outside of a sandwich. But it is still VERY filling.

Had a great dining experience here! Our bartender Jacob was super friendly and attentive. The food was actually really good and amazing portions! The chicken Caesar salad was delicious and so was the meatball sandwich with its freshly baked bread! Wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did! I'd definitely recommend and visit again! Pioneer Square was super busy last night due to the open market, so patio was very busy and had a long but we got seated right away at the bar!

My friends have been recommending me to try Darkalino's for a while now and I must say, I love it! Our party of 11 made a reservation for a Tuesday evening and they had set up our table prior to our arrival. My friends recommended to me the clam sauce pasta but our server sadly told our group that they were all out of clams. Oh well, next time! I ordered the pesto pasta and also several orders of garlic bread for the table. If I remember correctly, each order of bread came with 8 pieces. Perfectly garlicky and cheesy and I love that it's made with focaccia bread. My pasta was delicious as well, though it did feel a tad greasy midway through, and if I were to order it again, I would add chicken to help round out the flavors. Overall, had a great time at Darkalino's, service was attentive, and I look forward to trying out their happy hour menu! Just a note that happy hour is from 2-5pm so timing isn't most convenient for most, but I'll definitely give it a try.

We LOVE Darkalinos! It doesn't look or feel like your generic Italian restaurant, but honestly, that's part of what makes it fun! It's right in the middle of historic Pioneer Square and shares a venue with a Sneaker Store, giving it some extra character. The Manu is fairly simple, but everything is delicious! The servers are super nice and friendly and the service is fast! You can tell the pasta is very fresh, cooked perfectly Al Dente! If it means anything, I've gone there with an old co-worker of mine who is VERY Italian, and it's one of his favorite Italian spots in the US. Can't wait to go back!

Came here with some friends before a concert at WAMU theater. We sat in the upstairs section, which was a bit stuffy on a warm day unfortunately. For my drink I had the house spritz. It was great! They have a lot of good drink options to choose from, as well as some non-alcoholic ones. For sharing we got some of the broccolini, which was very lemony and delicious! For my main I got the pesto pasta with chicken. The portion of chicken was huge! I was so impressed. The pasta was great too, as well as the pesto sauce. I was barely able to finish all of it! I would like to come here again, especially because they have a good deal where you can get a bottle of wine and two pastas for $50. It would make a perfect date night dinner.

Great atmosphere with dope music and vibey decor! Friendly staff and speedy service. Pillowy bites of GF gnocchi drenched in a beautiful, light, and creamy pesto sauce danced on my tongue while vibing to the music of the restaurant. Try the Reviver #2 as a cocktail! Cocktail bar is cute and quaint but pacts a punch!

Almost a five! This venue is....like a restaurant/resell sneaker shop/clothing store all in one. The restaurant that was previously here (The London Plane) was a bit similar in that it was a flower shop + restaurant. I happened to be a sneakerhead so seeing sneakers displayed next to where I was eating was quite cool... I guess. To most folks, it could be pretty confusing and random but probably wouldn't hurt their dining experience. Lots of wasted space though I would add - iis very oddly shaped and unnecessarily spacious. Hope they don't have to pay too much rent. The food prices are on the high side but portions are quite large. I also have to always remind myself that dining in Seattle is more expensive than other surrounding cities. The food was simply great. I ordered the meatball sandwich and it was on point. Slightly sweet marinara was very well balanced with the bitter herbs (Basil) and pickled vegetables. Focaccia bread was amazing as well. The sandwich was a bit hard to eat but it is served with a fork and a knife - probably a good hint that you may need them. I got to try my co-worker's vodka sauce pasta and it was delicious as well. Three of us shared the Tiramisu for dessert and it was the perfect size. It came in 3 pieces pre-cut. The server informed us that it was house made using the owner's family recipe. It was very very good but I did not detect much coffee at all. It tasted more like a chocolate cake/pastry. Our server was very attentive and nice. No complaints at all. I will definitely be back to try more dishes and maybe my rating will go up to a five eventually.

This review is only based on the drinks we ordered. I'm debating between 3 or 4 stars because every other things such as service and environment were very nice but the drinks were horrible. I ordered a Limoncello Spiritz and I did not know how to feel about this drink. It started with too sweet and alcohol show up at once when took the first sip. Then it has the fake sugar sweetness after taste. I couldn't even drink it after 3 sips and my husband had to finish it for me, even though he hated the drink too. We didn't want to waste it. Then I ordered a pinot grigio thinking it's going to be a safe drink to order! Hahaa nope! First it came in a big shot glass and at first I thought it's a shot. The wine tasted horrible, it tasted like it has been left out for couple days. It just tasted horrible. The beer that my husband on the other hand was pretty good and refreshing. Everything was so clean and our bartender was really funny and nice. I think his name is Dustin? So these two things deserve 5 stars on that. Other than that, the drinks were meh.

This Italian gem is more than just a typical restaurant, it's an experience! Set inside a former bank, it blends great food, great drinks, and a touch of local history all under one roof. The menu delivers on classic Italian comfort food with a polished edge, and the cocktails are made to perfectly pair with the cuisine. I'm not a rum drinker, but the Vinnie Barbarino has me rethinking that as it was quite delicious. The Chicken Parm and the Uncle Johnny's sauce with Rigatoni were both excellent dishes and highly recommended. The Focaccia was ok, but a little on the bland side. I think next time we will get the Garlic Bread instead. One of the highlights comes after the meal. Head downstairs and you'll find the original bank vault, still intact! This adds a fun and unexpected layer to the evening. Service was warm and attentive, rounding out what felt like both a delicious dinner and a little step back in time.

Pioneer Square is Back--And So Is Good Italian Since moving closer to Pioneer Square, I've been wandering more--and honestly, it feels like the neighborhood is quietly blowing up again. Between the art, food, and bars, there's a pulse here that's picking up steam. Italian spots are rare in Seattle, but I've found two worth mentioning: Salumi (of course) and a newer discovery--Darkalino's. This place surprised me. The pasta hit the spot, and the chicken parm? Made with focaccia bread. Who's complaining? While I wouldn't mind a bigger portion of chicken, it was still flavorful and well worth the order. Bonus points: there's a solid bar and an actual basketball court size space inside . The space is massive and great for dining in. Plus, with the summer vibes flowing outside, the whole experience just worked. Pioneer Square is making moves again--and spots like Darkalino's are proof.

Happy hour is amazing, but wow that Caesar salad was so good. I would say the bread was good too, but the Caesar salad and pasta won us over I've been wanting to come here for awhile, but went on a random day after a baseball game that was just in time for HH. So worth

We did find seating and there is seating in the restaurant portion, as well as down the stairs. It's a cute little place in the heart of pike place. We got the lasagna casalinga, from the farm, and from the sea pastas. Lasagna casalinga: I love lasagna but I've never had a white sauce lasagna before. I really loved this and I loved it a lot more than I expected. It has peas, sausage, and mushrooms, made with in house bechamel sauce. I thought this might feel super heavy and rich since it was a cream sauce but it wasn't! It was creamy without the feeling of being "too much" when eating it! That's always my worry whenever I eat cream pastas or sauces, that I can only eat a few bites and then feel full bc it the richness. The mushrooms, pea, and sausage worked so nicely into the flavoring of the lasagna and the sausage was flavorful and seasoned well. I believe it's a pork sausage which in my option always tastes great. From the farm: this was my absolute favorite! I always lean towards ragu or bolognese sauce, it's my favorite dish because the flavors become so pronounced during the cooking process. This was a bison ragu with perfectly al dente rigatoni. The bison wasn't gamey and pair so nicely with the ragu because it was able to get in all the crevices of the pasta. We opted for burrata as a topping which gave a really nice creaminess From the sea: this was a spaghetti with rockfish, pea vines, leeks, and harissa. The pasta felt a little Asian inspired, in Chinese cooking we steam whole rockfish and pea vines are a very common veggie dish, so I loved that the elements made me think of my culture. The harissa also gave it a spicy kick which was reminiscent of having chili oil or chili paste on the side at dimsum. While I loved the flavors of this it wasn't my favorite because it was a bit too light. I really wished the flavors were bolder and more pronounced. Rockfish/white fish is very mild fish so the taste is very dependent on the flavors you add to it. However if you like light flavors and fish that isn't too fishy, this is great! This is a really fresh dish so even though it wasn't my favorite doesn't mean it's not a great pasta! I can't wait to come back to try the next rotation of pastas!

There weren't a lot of people that day, we had the whole place to ourselves. The guy who took our order had so much patience to explain each pasta. I got the from the sea and my husband got Pomodoro. I really liked my husband's pasta and it was so fresh! It cooked al dente and the pasta sauce seasoned so perfectly. My husband never a huge fan of al dente and he loved this place so much! He still talking about this place and won't stop talking about it. Mine of the other hand was okay; the taste is kinda odd to me, and it's kinda too salty for my liking. The fish were so small, like tiny pieces, I wish its bigger. My personal favorite of my dish is the Al dente part and the pea vine. Other than that mine was meh. The whole place is sooo cute and definitely a cute date spot!!!

We were lured over to Due' Cucina after having a fantastic experience with their fresh porchetta…read moresandwiches at the Camp Yelp event earlier this month. Fatty and tender meat, dripping with juices, on top of the perfect focaccia with an ideal crunchy fried crust and airy interior, not to mention the excellent marinated eggplant, tender and filled with tangy vinegar essence. I couldn't wait to give their actual restaurants a try, and that's where we found ourselves over the rainy weekend. This particular location is open and clean with extremely friendly staff. Ordering is really easy on the 3 kiosks in the front, although the pasta chef/cashier is also happy to take orders, offer suggestions, and help with any questions. The menu displays the level of al dente to expect with each type of pasta but can be adjusted in the order notes. They also have a very convenient monitor up near the kitchen that displays order status, whether in the preparation phase or complete. I especially love how this restaurant has bar seating in front of the fresh pasta making station. We were able to watch as the chef mixed up a batch of fresh spaghetti, measuring out the semolina flour and water (at least, that's all I saw her add to the combo mixer-extruder), preparing the die, and then extruding the pasta. And yes, as with any high quality pasta, they use bronze dies for extrusion here! The pasta is dried on racks for a bit to really give that al dente bite when cooked. Suppli Al Telefono ($3.70) - An order comes with a single piece nestled in a mini fry basket. This is somewhat similar to the more commonly seen (in the US at least) arancini. It's a smaller log-shaped fried croquette, with tender rice cooked in a fragrant tomato based sauce, stuffed with tons of gooey, stretchy cheese, and then deep fried to golden perfection. The breading is fantastically crunchy, contrasting against the much softer interior. It's a great pairing of texture and flavor. (5/5) Short Ribs Ragu w/ Fusilloni ($14.90) - The chef recommended the fusilloni with the ragu. The fusilloni, essentially a larger fusilli that has longer "fins", has plenty of spirals and crevices to catch onto the sauce. The extrusion is a little inconsistent, with some pieces being longer than others and others being more spirally, a sign of manual hand cutting rather than being machine sliced. Per the menu, the fusilloni is cooked until a "2" al dente level. This is actually more al dente than most Italian restaurants, meaning the pasta has a very firm bite, yet remains slightly chewy. It's definitely cooked through and pleasant to eat, although trending towards the too al dente side. The pasta is only lightly sauced, but what sauce there is clings perfectly onto the micro rough surface of the pasta. Each bite is consistent in taste with all the rich umami and tangy notes from the red wine tomato sauce. The parmigiano reggiano adds an additional burst of savory saltiness and the short rib, rendered perfectly tender, is given in enough quantity to satisfy. Due Cucina really does serve some great pasta. (5/5) Rustic Porchetta Sandwich ($11.90) - With how great the porchetta sandwich was at Camp Yelp, this is a disappointment. The porchetta, while still flavorful with somewhat anise-like and garlicky aromas, is completely dried out and tough. It's like the pork had been pre-sliced in the morning at a central kitchen, shipped to the restaurant, then placed in a dry heat tray for service. After the meal I confirmed my suspicions with the chef - the porchetta is prepared off site and and driven over every morning. The focaccia, so airy and crisp at Camp Yelp, is also subpar in store. It's floppy, completely saturated with oil, yet feels dried out on the interior. At least the eggplant hasn't degraded in quality too much. While still having a bite (e.g. not super tender), it's grilled and marinated until tangy and savory in a vinaigrette. Interestingly they serve the sandwich on top of a bed of lettuce tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette. The oils in the sandwich drip down while eating to add even more flavor. (3/5) I know that their porchetta is high quality when fresh, but I think the way they have it set up now makes a sandwich that's still tasty, but definitely could be much better. If they choose to open a specialty sandwich shop that roasts the porchetta in house, I'd definitely be a regular. With Due' Cucina, though, I'd stick with the excellent pasta. At the end of the day, pricing is very reasonable. For less than $40 after tax/tip, we both left satisfied. What a rarity for Seattle nowadays. And as a bonus, apparently they refresh the menu often. According to the chef, starting on Monday, Due Cucina will be introducing new pasta shapes, sauces, and different sandwiches. I'll be back for more pasta in the near future! Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms that require a code to enter.

It's minimally furnished with just the right amount of ambient lighting. Secondly, it's Italian, but Piedmontese Italian if that means anything to you. We started with crespelle ($29) which is an Italian crepe. The version we ordered was stuffed with prosciutto and parmigiana fonduta with arugula salad. The crepe was light and airy and paired perfectly with the salty prosciutto and parm. Perfect starter. Honestly, all the pastas we ordered were absolute fire. Of the three, I liked the Tajarin Al ragù ($20/$34) the most. It's a fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with pork and beef ragù. The pasta is so finely cut; it's delicate. What I liked best was the way the ragù sauce enveloped itself into the folds of the pasta. Each bite was cohesive and really intentional. The risotto was also quite good as well - that night, it was the risotto ai gamberi ($21/$35) which highlight spot prawns. The spot prawns were sweet and the Calabrian chili was a really nice complement to the sweet and creamy. Delish. I'm sure the risotto is great in any season. I must say - the best thing about the menu is the fact that you can order a smaller portion of any of the pasta dishes as to not have to fully commit to one. This is a superb way to eat.
