Boy, did this place deliver. First, there will probably be a wait, so don't panic. Put your name down, head over to the bookstore next door, and they will text you when your table is ready. Easy. We may have gotten one of the best seats in the house, too. We were tucked into a far corner by the window with a fan blowing directly on us, which was PERFECT because it was HOT outside. You can also sit at the counter and watch the cooking, which looked like a pretty great option. I ordered the baked eggs with cheese, and my husband got the French toast. I am STILL dreaming about those eggs. That cheese sauce was something else. Rich, savory and absolutely scrumptious. When my husband tried them, his eyes practically rolled back in his head. My one tiny quibble: the eggs weren't runny - more jammy. I'm not even sure that's possible with a baked egg dish, but if they could somehow pull that off, it would take this dish to another level. My husband's French toast was good, but honestly, it was no competition for those eggs. Rudest, most condescending restaurant manager I've ever encountered! When I complained that an auto tip was included on my bill and wanted it removed, (waited 30 minutes from server taking order to food appearing) she proceeded to argue with me that it was only 25 minutes (as if that's reasonable.) Instead of being apologetic and "how can I make this right," she acted like I was wrong for having the nerve to complain! It was a long wait, but the food was worth it. pro tip: walk over to dough joy and get a doughnut while you wait. I think about it years later. you get four jammy egg halves, topped with anchovies and sprinkled a little parsley on top. something so simple but so incredibly good. the eggs were jammed to perfection. as a main, I got the croque madame which comes with a side green salad. both were pretty great, and balanced each other out. I can totally see why this is one of Seattle's premier classic brunch spots. Found in the heart of Capitol Hill, the old timey decor and cafeteria style tables and seats really makes you feel like you're eating in a restaurant plucked straight out of old history. The open air space also made the experience a lot more enjoyable and cozy as it made the meal feel a lot more casual and comfortable at least to me. As for the food, I got the salmon benedict and we got a waffle for the table to share. The benedict itself was amazing. I love a seafood eggs benedict as the sauce paired with the fish so well and the egg was poached to the perfect texture. He took my information and texted me to ensure the message went through. While we waited, we went next door to Elliot Bay bookstore. After ~20 minutes our table was ready. The restaurant was busy with diners enjoying their food and having good conversations. We ordered coffee, the regular brioche french toast and the chorizo and Yukon potato hash. I ordered the regular brioche french toast. I love the brioche bread's thickness and fluffiness, but I think next time I would order a side of bacon to complete the meal. My partner ordered the chorizo and Yukon potato hash came with kale, salsa and a poached egg. You can taste the spices and heat from the salsa and chorizo. While in Seattle, this was one of my bucket list places to visit, and I'm so glad we made it! The interior is casual and inviting with a farm-style vibe that makes it an easy place to hang out and catch up. I've been coming here occasionally for years and like this place for the central location at the center of action in Cap Hill, beautiful interior with huge/open windows, and variety of menu items including healthy and dietary accomodations. In their recent menu re-vamp (maybe in time for the World Cup?) I particularly enjoyed the farro grain bowl which came with a generous serving of avocado, steamed and garlicky spinach, roasted veg and a delicious green sauce. My friends and I went for supper, and the warm dishes ordered (pasta and whole grain bowl) felt like they were room temperature or even colder. the chicken and the whole grain bowl together was also pretty unseasoned.
