This was an interesting experience. Our party of 3 made reservations at 8:30 pm. The restaurant was about half full, not busy. We ordered two drinks, bolognese, scallop potato ravioli, and the burger. It took almost an hour for us to get our food. Our server was not attentive and didnt check on us even once or to tell us when our food was coming out. We ended up talking to the hostess who then grabbed the manager, Lex, for us. Lex was great and apologetic and offered free drinks. Since we werent drinking more we asked for a discount instead. When our food finally came, the bolognese was cold. My friend asked to heat it up and the server was almost annoyed? He didnt give an answer but said "hold on" and went to the back. When he came out he had a very weird attitude. His hands were on our table, leaning over us, and said "okay heres the deal..." and told us the chef started making another batch. My friend and him went back and forth a little bit because she didn't want to waste food and was wondering if he can just heat up her plate to which he said "that's blatantly against health code". Sorry we don't keep up with health codes. We then asked him for boxes and the hostess gave them to us. By the time our check came our server had the same attitude. Hands on our table, leaning over us, started the sentence out with "okay here's the deal..." then gave some half sincere apology and it was just awkward. He couldn't look us in the eye. Had a fantastic group brunch! I had planned a brunch at another establishment and got a call 24 hours before the event to say they couldn't accommodate my group as planned. So I frantically called every place in Seattle and the staff at Stella was BY FAR the most helpful and friendly people I spoke to all day. They luckily had space for our party and got us on the books. Day of they allowed me to bring in flowers and light decor. Food was fantastic, honestly better than I anticipated. Plus they graciously plated some special dessert I brought it and wowed the whole table. The atmosphere and aesthetic is awesome. Highly recommend checking Stella out, I'll be back for sure. read more

Hmm I had super high hopes for Stella after seeing their star garden area being advertised on IG, but after visiting for dinner I wasn't that impressed anymore. The place itself is beautiful, great ambiance which is why I give this place 3 stars. I'm knocking down 2, because first I think the food is overpriced. Second, I understand it's COVID and many restaurant menu's are limited but the the options are just not that interesting for me to come back, in my opinion. Third, while ordering I asked if I could remove one of the ingredients of the dish and my friend did the same for her dish to which the server replied something along the lines of "there is many typos in this menu, and it's not in there". Came for dinner recently and won't come back. Food was adequate at best, nothing spectacular or worth a second order; but half the dishes were over-salted to the point of inedible. Beyond the food, though, the service was "we feel like hostages" level of badness (it took a full two hours, start to finish, for a purported 3 course meal. In between courses, service could generously be described as "inattentive" (although it felt a bit more deliberately negligent than merely inattentive, as it was impossible to catch the eye of anyone moving by our table at most points during the evening)). We had a lot of time while we were waiting to try to figure out the problem, and most likely it was the fault of the kitchen--things just didn't seem to be coming out at a pace necessary to meet the needs of the customers. But if they can't clean up the quality, speed, and reliability of their cooking, you'd do better to pass and find a better place (for half the cost) somewhere else. read more

This is commentary that is very much taking COVID-19 into consideration. To be brief: THIS PLACE IS A WASTE OF MONEY. They are very much trying to get their legs underneath them, but are miserably failing; from being greeted, to being sat, to the preparation of the food. The space is amazing in its own right, however, the decor that they have cheapens the place. There is angst and anxiety that is palpable from the staff and I can only imagine that it is coming from the top down as it's not one staff member, but ALL of them. DO NOT GO HERE if you are looking for a nice dinner. Starters are bland, they don't have the wine they say they do, the mains are over cooked and the desserts are frozen. Look elsewhere until they figure their stuff out. Again, I think it starts from the top and NEEDS to be corrected. This place is terrible and not worth your time nor money. I can understand when a place says they're short staffed and it takes a while to be served, but when everyone else in the restaurant is getting their drinks and then their food and you're just sitting there- you know you're getting poor service. People who came into the restaurant 45 minutes after us were getting their food! We walked out- what a waste of time. The vibe and look if this place is nice, but our experience was less than stellar. We had two different servers that weren't communicating with eachother, so we got our drink and food order taken multiple times. The brought our appetizer at the same time as our food, which means you either have to scarf down the app or let your main course get cold. The waitress also made a comment on how fast we finished our mimosas, not a big deal, just made me feel weird lol Im sure this place, like any other restaurant has good and bad days, and we caught them on a bad day. Operating a restaurant during COVID is tough business. That being said, I am severely disappointed in my experience here tonight. I came here with a reservation alone, and picked what I wanted to order in advance. I was there for an hour-and-a-half - reminding myself to have patience, even through the charred mushrooms of my filet mignon dish that got burned. It's been a busy night. The manager of the restaurant and several waiters were more keen on serving some lady who literally ran around the restaurant because she forgot something in her car and because she wanted to send a bottle of champagne to a different table, and then check on the table she sent the champagne to - ALL while not wearing a face mask. I watched her get CLOSE to both employees and other customers without a face mask. I personally pulled my face mask back on each and every time someone approached my table. I understand having excitement for something entertaining, but I cannot believe none of the employees at least asked her to wear her mask. I will not be coming back, due to that. read more

Fantastic addition to the Seattle restaurant scene. We had a marvelous dinner on the patio a month ago. Steelhead was perfectly prepared and mouthwatering. Goddess salad pleased my partner enormously. Asparagus small plate outstanding. Don't know where some of the other reviewers ate, but the place I ate at was stellar. A great complement to one of Seattle's oldest and best hotels (I lived nearby in Seattle for 30 years). Excellent and responsive service. The Salmon Benedict was excellent. Poached eggs sitting on salmon cake instead of an English Muffin. The accompanying rosemary potato was so good I stole my wife's potato too. I'm giving it only 3 stars because the host was very rude. My friend, who's 77 years old and lives just around the corner, had came in person and made a reservation. When we arrived the reservation was not in the system. No problem, these things happen. Then the host started to lecture us we should use Open Table to make reservations. When we argued that's fine but we're here now the host just lost it. He raised his voice and started berating us for not being considerate to the difficulties facing the restaurant industry right now. We were stunned at his rudeness and figured he was taking out his frustrations on us. We let the incident pass and had a lovely meal, but I wish this host would keep his perspective. read more

This week our family had a wonderful dining experience at Stella as one part of celebrating my husband's 70th - blocks away from where he came into this world. We had the amazing setting of being in the outside courtyard/patio area. It was magical. Because of it being a special occasion I had contacted the restaurant manger, Jason, earlier with a couple of special requests. He was so responsive to those requests and he and the wait staff bent over backward to make the evening perfect, from beginning to the end. We tried many of the different small plates to share as starters. The cod fritters were incredible, the asparagus and heirloom tomatoes with burrata - Yes! as well of the octopus which was delicious. I loved that there were so many sides that could be added to the table - mixed nuts, olives, bread, fried - something for every one and at a price point that seemed very fair. The vegan amongst us loved the radiatore and cauliflower entrée. Others at the table went for the scallops and gnocchi - perfection. The desserts finished the meal in the sweetest way you'd ever want - exceeding expectations. We will definitely be back - can see this becoming a place of choice - if just wanting to share wine or a cocktail and a few small plates and sides or going for a full dinner experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Stella last night and recommend it enthusiastically! We're longtime Sorrento patrons - from our wedding night back in 1995, to many, many Christmas Eves with the family. This was our first time back in years, ever since the revamping of the Fireside Room into a hip, mid-century, nightclub-type atmosphere... we weren't into that at all for our beloved, classic Sorrento, and missed the ambience of what it used to be. Fortunately, Stella and the current management team are doing it right this time! While the Fireside Room is more contemporary now, it's in good taste with a nod to its classic roots - for example, they've brought back the velvet seating bench that encircles the center column and the dark wood floors make the room feel cozy again. But I digress - this review is about Stella, so let me say we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious everything was. To be honest, when I first glanced at the menu, I felt a little less than confident that I was going to love what I ordered... I'm not sure why, but the listing of dinner items didn't rock my world. Until I tasted them! There were three of us, and every single dish was phenomenal (I tasted them all) :). I had the spiced pork chop with braised cabbage and stewed apples and I was glad it was such a hefty portion, so I had some left to nibble on at home late night. It was still delicious! My daughter had the Bolognese which is quite possibly the best I've ever had. And my husband ordered the burger, which was heavenly. Make sure you order the Cod Brandade Fritters, too - divine! And our server, Michael, went above and beyond for us and, even though he was wearing a mask the whole time, I could tell it was all done with a smile - from dragging an umbrella over to our table when it started to rain (we were seated outside), to sharing his vast knowledge of the menu, the chef's background, the bartender's awards... he knows his stuff! Not too many great options to choose from for brunch here - most dishes were considered basic (even by the waitress) and out of the dishes me and my friends ordered, nothing struck me or inspired me to come back here, even though the actual food wasn't bad. I'm leaving a 3-star review however because of a subpar relationship with our waitress. From the beginning, when asking if we could sit outside, our waitress asked "are you sure if you want to sit outside?", questioning our original request, because it was wet from the previous night's rainfall. After a small back-and-forth conversation we just gave up and decided we would sit inside. I'm not sure if it seemed like too much trouble for her to wipe down a table outside, but we did feel weird around our waitress for the first half of breakfast. Wonderful meal and ambience at Stella in the beautiful, historic Hotel Sorrento. We ate in the bar but would have been just as happy in the Fireside room, or sometime in summer on the patio. Clams in broth with the grilled bread - I want more now! My husband ordered Chicken piccata. I thought how boring, but it was so good! Best I've ever had. Beet and chèvre salad was really good, too. All served by Guillermo, a seasoned bartender with lots of character who made us feel right at home and made sure all our needs were met. I'd been a guest at Sorrento three times but this was my first visit to Stella. I chose to dine at the bar and it turned out to be a very busy night at the restaurant. There was a special event in the piano room and the outside courtyard was full as well. It was clear that the servers and the staff at the bar were extremely busy. But they provided attentive and friendly service nonetheless. I ordered the scallops with potato ravioli and it was delicious. Food was great, and our waitress was sincerely sweet. The reason for the low stars was due to the nature and unprofessional conduct of the hostess. When I checked in, I was asked to see the proof of vaccination. That is a county wide mandate, and I proceeded to show her. She asked to validate my vaccination card by requesting my ID. I tired to mention to her that I was a part of the development training on this mandate and it very clearly states that ID's are not to be asked upon vaccination verifications due to the sensitivity of potential trauma triggers from discrimination practices aimed at marginalized communities. She said she didn't care and said, well it's our business and it's what we require. Well, the business is run within King County, and I'd hate to escalate this matter. She walked away after I shared my ID, and threw the two menus on the table and refused to show me to my table or acknowledge me throughout my dining experience there. I would recommend sensitivity training for your hostess and staff to avoid future escalations. read more

My wife and I met some friends in Seattle and found Stella at the Hotel Sorrento. Fabulous!! We sat in the outdoor cafe in the shade of a glorious historical hotel and enjoyed the ambiance and great service from everyone we met. And the food.... the food..... what a great menu and wonderful selections. I had the pork chop which really was more like a steak! Juicy and on a bed of cabbage with apples on top! Best ever. Terrible service experience - prejudice at best, racism at worst. In my 4 years living in Seattle, I never experienced a worst feeling of being unwelcome. I went to dinner with two other friends (an Indian and a fellow Latino), and we had called ahead to make sure the patio had sufficient heating. We received confirmation that it did from the hostess, who upon arrival, seated us and turned up the temperature of the heater (on my request). When the waiter took our order, he, without an explanation or apology, adjusted the temperature back down. I thought it had to be a mistake (maybe they didn't communicate to each other properly) so I got up and adjusted it back up. The waiter angrily tells me to not touch the temperature, I apologize and explain that the hostess had adjusted up for us before he turned it down. I asked if anyone else had complained that it was too hot, and he said yes...no other explanation. The large patio was practically empty...the only other table in the patio looked like they were about to finish their dinner and wrapping up the check (unlikely that they complained - we were there for like 5 min at that point). I then asked if they can seat us inside since the temp is unfavorable outside. They sit us inside, but with a caveat that they don't immediately communicate - we were not to be served alcohol. I only found out about this when I went to order a glass of wine and the new waiter said he had been instructed to not serve us drinks... Now, I can see how this could have been necessary if we were a trio of belligerent drunk customers, but we weren't. Clearly, they perceived us to be so because we complained (????). I can own that I shouldn't have touched the thermostat, but the waiter's hostile response was un-called for. Needless to say, we cancelled our order and walked away. Made a reservation on the weekend. Started off well, ordered our drinks and food. Some items were not there which is understandable and happens here and there. But after an hour of no food, I got up to talk to what I assume was the manager and all he said was "Well, everyones food is late". You know, a simple check-in to let us know what the status is on the food would have been nice. Didn't even get a chance to have refills on our drinks because no one checked in. So when we got attitude from the manager, we asked for the check and left. Dont know if the restaurant was understaffed or what, but it sucks because we were looking forward to the dinner. read more

I had a horrible time at Stella and let's just say I left completed underwhelmed and embarrassed. I had booked this place for Mother's Day dinner as a treat for my mother in law after seeing how beautiful the star garden terrace was. We arrived exactly at 6pm on time and was seated in the front of the restaurant in a tiny, crowded, and not visual appealing room although I booked the star garden. I had asked my waitress why and they (mentioning they as I don't want to misgender) had said so bluntly that they didn't open today, meanwhile I overheard the other waitress mentioning to the other table that they thought the weather was going to be bad so they closed it but they didn't expect it to be sunny today. Anyways, the food didn't come out until an hour later, LITERALLY AN HOUR LATER AT 7PM, I was so embarrassed and my mother in law was literally starving, she barely eats dinner this late. The food was so underwhelming and not even delicious, the scallops were hard to bite into and chewy and the sauce was sour, my mother in laws steelhead trout was super bland. Didn't even eat the lamb soup. Overall everything was so disgusting but since the waitress obviously had an attitude problem, I didn't want to mention it to take it back in fear of them spitting in my food, lol. So here comes the check and I give a 18% tip (which I regret because the next part) and after I sign, we ask the waitress for a Togo box in which she brings out a paper box for soup, to which my mother in law asked nicely for a container (her English isnt very good) and the waitress gives the most disgusting attitude ever and says " YOU mean a TUBBERWARE" super dirty and bent one, which was obviously rewashed, my mother in law and I were in shock and dissatisfied. We ended up asking the other waitress for one and she brought one spotless and clean. It's so obvious our waitress didn't give a crap after they received their 18% tip and even seems dissatisfied with it as if they deserved 25%?! Overall it was a horrible experience I have ever experienced dining, I left the restaurant in shame and can't believe that's how we spent Mother's Day dinner. Went to Stella under new Executive Chef, Carolynn Spence, and it was fabulous! We sat outside on the courtyard and the atmosphere is wonderful! As a party of 5 we were able to try a few different appetizers, main dishes and desserts. The cod fritters and risotto arancini were fantastic appetizers. Easy to share, but you will want to keep them for yourself! The diver scallops were sitting on an amazing sweet corn succotash. I really didn't want the dish to end. The radiatore and cauliflower with a cashew cream sauce was delicious! Great wine and beer selection and the desserts were yummy! The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We can't wait to see how the menu continues to evolve under Spence, formerly of Shaker and Spear. Highly recommend! read more
