It's a shame that Steak 'n Shake is the only location in town. My husband, daughter, and I rarely eat fast food, but tonight we were all in the mood for a quick meal. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a huge mistake. We ordered two Number 9 Bacon & Cheese Singles. One was ordered exactly as listed on the menu, while the other was customized with no pickles, onions, or ketchup, and mustard added instead. We also specifically asked for fresh fries and were told that the fries are "always dropped fresh." The customized burger was completely wrong. It came with everything we specifically asked to have removed, and to make matters worse, it was missing the bacon entirely. If the staff can't follow a simple order, that's a serious problem. The fries were even more disappointing. Despite being told they were fresh, they were clearly not. They were cold, stale, and tasted like they had been sitting out for quite some time. For a restaurant that prides itself on burgers and fries, the quality was unacceptable. Overall, the experience was frustrating and a complete waste of money. Inwas going to get fries from chick-fil-a but the nice extra large Fries cooked in 100% Beef Tallow sign made me do a sharp turn into their parking lot. Glad I did they were amazing! Got a bunch of people just bs-ing around talking instead of making the orders. Saw us when we walked in and walked away. Order went in at 10:57. Groaned about the orders and didn't start cooking till 11:05. She put the burgers on the grill and walked away to talk and drink a milkshake. We have always loved this steak and shake the food here is excellent. We loved it when it was sit down with an awesome waitstaff and we now love the kind, hard working, super great drive through they experience they have now. Your food is always fresh. The workers are courteous and thorough. I've heard you can sit inside now but we haven't tried that. Different people complaining about the landscape I could care less about that I'm not eating the bushes. I come from New England where all the buildings are run down old and gross and you will find some of the best food you ever had so I'm okay with that as long as the food is good I'm ok. read more

Horrible experience food was bad atmosphere poor. We walked in around 6 PM on Tuesday night October 28. It looked like the had shut down. One lonely man was sitting there a single booth eating. We noticed no waitresses were available only a kiosk available to place your orders For dining or . We were able to fumble through the kiosk, then went the drink machine a cup of carbonated water until a lady from behind counter said you have to put your code in and then pour your drink within so many seconds for it to work. Later, as we were eating, we were noticing a small line of later customers that had come in, that they were backing up because they couldn't figure out how to use the drink machine either no directions no instructions nothing written that you have to use your code and you have to Dispense your drink within so many seconds or it will go off. We received our order it was incorrect of course, no mail on my double steak burger no french fries cold chili. By the way, I was told that it was the last order of chili available. When did steak 'n Shake ever run out of chili since it's one of their famous side dishes? We spent over $25 on this meal that was not worth it. We are horribly disappointed in what you have done to steak 'n Shake this is steak 'n Shake on US in Florida around a very busy business area. When we go to the window to pay and get our food, the lady informed us that the Dr Pepper was watered down. I thought that was very nice she did that & asked for a substitution rather than just serving the watered down dr pepper. The food came out hot & fresh. We came to pick-up some burgers as I'm a big believer of trying everything once (and it was on our way to our destination). I did not look up reviews beforehand, but I wish I had! The burgers were small, not tasty, and honestly felt frozen, and unthawed at best. The veggies on the burger did feel fresh, but the rest I could have just bought at my supermarket from the frozen section and it would probably would have been more delicious. Please just go to the 5 guys or any other burger place nearby! It is a cheaper meal. But clearly you are not receiving any sort of quality food. Lucky we did not get sick! Several had mentioned that Steak n Shake in St Augustine had really improved and urged folks to give them a chance. Today it worked out that we had the opportunity to do so. You now order online whether for inside seating or carry out. Staff was quick to assist and it really was pretty self explanatory. The food was really good, hot and fast. The toppings for the burhpgers were fresh and lots of choices. My husband got a shake and he was pleased with it. I got a fountain coke and it was better than at many establishments. People were helpful and friendly. Management was supportive of staff. I wished they still had the baked beans side. Don't know when that was eliminated because of very poor experiences at a Steak n Shake elsewhere it has been years sine I have been to one. I would advise folks to give them a try. Im not sure why this steak n shake has low reviews because it was one of my best DINING experiences probably ever and ive rated a steak n shake before and lets just say its not longer in business. Not sure if this is a new thing in all steak n shakes or just due to covid, but they had touch screens where you order and then you sit and then they bring you your food. I know all steak n shake "tastes the same" but youre wrong. This one was INCREDIBLE. Burgers, cheese fries, chili, shakes, chicken fingers were all amazing. On point. Quick service and hot food. The burgers looked like the menu. Usually they're all slopped over, but these could have been photographed. Also the waiter was so nice when we asked of he had the paper hats for us adults.
