The entire restaurant is thoughtfully themed in great detail - the music, fun decor - even the restrooms are labeled "Westrooms"! :D The cheese toast was thick & delicious, the ribeye steak had great charbroiled taste and was tender. There are LOTS of toppings for your steak and/or baked potato, including teriyaki/bbq/worcestershire/hot sauces, gravy, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, cheese (shredded or watm cheese sauce), etc..! I love that all the toppings are self-serve. But the self-serve-stations can get messy - people are gross and sloppy getting butter all over the handles of the metal scoopers, and sauce on the ladel handles. Thankfully the counter with the bottled sauces had napkins. More restrooms are needed; there are only 1 men's and 1 women's individual restrooms (1 stall, 1 sink) for this big restaurant! There are plenty of tables and many booths, and it's great to be able to seat yourself. I really liked how the booths all had tall etched plexiglass partitions, probably installed after Covid. Yikes - what a let down. I took my friend here for her birthday. We both love steak. Gosh, I ordered the sirloin and it was the toughest steak I've had. It was dry and chewed like jerky. I couldn't finish it :( my puppies got the left overs. Salad bar was okay. Just keep fresh veggies and decent dressings and you can't really mess up a salad bar unless you really don't care. The toast they offer is not good. They use margarine, that vegetable based oil so of course it doesn't have a buttery savory flavor. This place seems to be holding on by a thread. It came off as them doing the absolute bare minimum. Only thing I can think of that might attract returning business is the wine is inexpensive (I didn't get wine but I saw the prices and people ordering). I'm kinda bummed. First time here and what a dump. I can see the nostalgia side of this though, it is very old and outdated. Color scheme that has long been forgotten. Service is minimal and needs updating as well. You enter the restaurant and are greeted by staff and they take your order. Then you go down the line a grab your salad if you chose that as one of your sides. Also, you grab your soft drink and silverware before paying. You find a table and wait for your food. They have a self serve potato bar and hot self serve steak toppings bar. Every time we come here, it always brings me back to the IE, but I love coming here not just for the amazing prices for steak, but the great value and not to mention, the food is pretty good. It is so hard to find restaurants that serve steak at their great prices. I hope that they can continue to offer such a great value. If I was a selfish individual, I would gate keep this restaurant, but I would not want to do anything to affect their business. In fact, I hope more people come here, but I don't think that is an issue because Steak Corral has been around as long as I myself have been alive. The low frills style but great service, you are welcomed in as you come in and your order is taken right up front at the start of the self served salad bar, (one trip only) the drink station which is also self serve however the drinks do come with free refills, a limited choice of desserts, and at the end is a friendly staff to verify your order and to ring up your selections. They have a tip jar near the register for cash tips, but as an advice, and not to get into the whole tipping debate, if you are paying by credit card, advice the cashier you would like to add a tip on your transaction because unlike other restaurants, the receipt you sign does not give you the option to add a tip. The service here is great. They do bring your order to your table, they will help with any questions, but if you want condiments, or add ons to your meal, they have a condiments bar that is self serve but you can add items like grilled onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, gravy, teriyaki sauce, bbq sauce, and even nacho cheese. You want extra butter, get what you want. Need chives, help yourself. As I mentioned the great value, all extras that are at the self serve bar are complimentary. The steaks are not the best, kind of tuff and lots of nerve, I do like the salad,lettuce always fresh and good salad dressings. I feel that the bar where they have the butter, sour cream and other condiments, is never clean, people are not careful when serving themselves, and the staff does not clean it often. There's an option to get a salad bar with your basic options they use iceberg lettuce and basic toppings not bad but difficult to serve yourself. If you order a baked potato like I did they have a potato topping bar also. I had the porterhouse steak medium. The steak was unevenly cooked some parts were medium rare while other parts were medium well and pretty tough to chew also. Friendly staff was a plus. This last time I went to do a take out order, and when I got to the waiting area, I saw a chihuahua sitting in one of the chairs by the grill. During the waiting process, one of the workers occasionally came out of the kitchen to handle the dog and then go back into the kitchen, several times with food preparationimplements in his hands. This was not good. Even though they were ordered "medium" they were tough. Even the filet Mignon was tough. We wanted to love it but didn't. Baked potatoes were good and we liked the salad bar style or adding toppings and the salad bar as well. Wanted to love it, but just can't today. My first time back in a few years. I decided on dinner tonight. The restaurant hasn't changed along the lines of its casual western ambiance. The service was top notch and the prices are great! Ample parking, cozy restaurant, wonderful ambiance. My Entree consisted of the extra cut porterhouse steak medium rare, a baked potato and a trip to the salad bar. The salad was really good as salads go. Baked potato good as usual with all the toppings and the grilled toast was as good as I remember it. The porterhouse steak on the other hand, was a complete and total let down. Thin, (most probably less than a pound) and loaded with tough gristle. The quality of this steak was nothing like I recall and they really shouldn't be serving it. I'd suggest sourcing a much higher quality, thicker porterhouse and just up the price. They know how to cook a steak so it shouldn't be a stretch. People will pay more for a great well rounded food experience. Don't let this be the beginning of the end. Dessert consisted of a warm slice of cherry pie and a cup of coffee. The cherry pie could be better. Its the crust thats letting it down and the coffee, well I'm sad to say, they need to up their coffee game. A lot. Might I suggest ordering your coffee from Sheldrake Coffee Roasting in Long Beach. I had the ribeye steak with baked potato and salad bar my husband had the New York strip With potato and mixed vegetables. I'm not sure how this place got five stars on any review our states were awful they were gristle and chewy and appeared to have been chewed up before they even fried them they were not by least far a good steak at all. The mixed vegetables were overdone and soggy and our baked potatoes were small the potato bar is just basically the toppings you want on it and the steak was grilled onions mushrooms and grills bell pepper to your liking. The grilled cheese bread was awful it had some kind of coating on the opposite side of the bread that was not appealing nor tasty either everything lacked flavor and I mean everything. I will probably never come here again most likely. Amazing place! First of all it's not the sit down and order. You come in look at the menu and the wagon wheels place your order. Then they have a salad bar which is separate You pay separately it doesn't come with the meals. I suppose it's sort of pricey but you are definitely getting a good cut of meat. No cheap cuts of meat here. They even have pie and ice cream for your dessert. I got a kick out of the bathroom decor and the toddlers have a miniature horse with a saddle and it's cute as all get out. I hope the best time it was so cute Great service by the way. Nothing has changed since my last visit to the Santa Ana location 45 or so years ago. It's a fun affordable steakhouse. You order when you enter then go down the line to make your salad, get a drink then pay. Sit anywhere you want. This isn't a high-end steakhouse, but the steaks are delicious. I had the Porterhouse with a salad, and baked potato. I also got a large sundae. When the food comes, they have a condiment bar for your meat and potatoes. There're also toppings to make your sundae. Yes you can get a steak for cheap and sides for cheap but you would be better off going to the store and getting a frozen dinner and probably a lot safer too. We have had our specialty steakhouses in So Cal that we love to visit throughout the years. We only found Steak Corral a few years ago and we have been very pleasantly surprised. I love the salad bar with all its toppings and this visit I added grilled mushrooms and gilled onions to my steak when I was putting the toppings on my baked potato. The service is really good. if you have not been here before, you order as you walk up, pick up your salad and/or drinks then proceed to the end of the counter and pay your bill.
