Tried Primal Cuts by the old Fred C. Nelles site in Whittier, California, which used to be a juvenile correctional facility. The food is really good, the seating area is comfortable, and the service is fast and friendly. I still have my favorite hamburger spot, but this place has a great hamburger, nice scenery, and you're right by the bar, so it's a cool place to relax with a coffee. If you're ever in the area, come check it out and you tell me what you think.

Smash burger and fries
Kevin N.

So I came here after seeing a few people post about it on social media, and I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the smashburger and the fries. The burger was just good, but not great, in my opinion. The meat quality was very good, and you could taste it; but the patty didn't have enough seasoning, which led to kind of a lackluster burger. The primary flavors you get from the burger are the meat and the onions, can't really taste the sauce. The fries however, were amazing; probably one of the best fries I've had in a long time. They do advertise the fries as tallow fries, and I think you can definitely tell. Price wise, I think the burger is pretty small for 8$, and the fries are steep at 6$, but the fries are definitely worth any upcharge for the additional flavors from the beef tallow.

They pre cut your steak and it's over cooked.

Steak was wayyyyy over cooked . I ordered the steak medium and it came out well done... quite disappointing... especially for a steak joint

This Primal Cuts locations is inside of Rodeo 72 Public Market. Their food stall is in a corner near Capo Public House and next to Shootz. They're known for their different steak options, but they also have burgers. I got the Butchers Burger, and honestly it was a really good burger! It's a 1/2 lb black angus beef burger with Swiss, garlic aioli, caramelized onions, arugula, and sun tried tomatoes. Juicy, flavorful, and a lot of umami! I really enjoyed it and would come back again for it! Lots of seating options in this food hall.

Garlic smash burger. Smash burger. Tallow fries. Buttery buffalo wings.

This place is legit. It's inside Rodeo 72 which is a food hall. The place gets popping and can be vibrant with activity. My wife and I ordered smash burgers and The wait wasn't too long. Both burgers were delicious although a little one note in flavor. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. We also got the tallow fries and buttery buffalo wings and both were outrageously delicious. Nice bite to them. All in all we will be back and I highly recommend trying it out.

Wings were soooo tasty If you're looking for a small and simple burger the smash burger is a nice snack, fries also had a nice crunch

Picanha with roasted garlic herb butter

I have to say this picanha was soooo much better than the one at fogo de chao!!!! Got a side of tallow fries - and those were superb! They stayed crispy and yummy through my drive home and waiting for my family to try them. I appreciated that this was sliced for me- because plastic cutlery is just is not very helpful with cutting steaks. My only issue is I am a broke teacher in the summer and I wish there was a combo or a special that includes a side.

Service was ok. Fries were good. Ribeye steak was good but seemed small for the price. If I come back I will not be getting the ribeye.

Elevated Steak Experience at Primal Cuts! Primal Cuts delivers a modern steakhouse experience with a serious focus on quality--and oh my it's my favorite eatery at the new Rodeo 72. Meat? Top tier super juicy. Customer service? Efficient yet palpably nice. Sourcing? Sustainable from small family ranches. You can taste the difference... chef's kiss. I highly recommend the ribeye cooked medium, paired with their cowboy butter--it has a subtle sour tang with bright lemony notes that elevate the richness of the steak beautifully. For sides, don't miss the mashed potatoes and mushrooms--both are simple, hearty, and full of flavor. Soooo...... Whether you're a steak connoisseur or just in the mood for something indulgent, Primal Cuts is a must-try at Rodeo 72. Premium meat, perfect execution, and a truly satisfying meal.

Mari was extra friendly and helpful! The burger was juicy and delicious. I love the onion rings with their fresh batter as well. I also like that they serve the customers at Capo while we watch the Dodgers game. Keep it up!

I visited the Whittier location on Wednesday, August 8th, after having positive experiences at the Stanton location many times. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. I noticed staff serving other guests their food directly, yet our order received no such service. I ordered a medium filet mignon, but it arrived closer to medium-well, which is frustrating when paying for a higher-quality cut of meat. The offer to remake it was declined because it had already taken around 30 minutes to receive our order on a day that wasn't even busy. To make matters worse, the steak was cold, meat was tough while the fries were crispy hot. When I asked to speak with a manager, the front staff member brought out a gentleman who admitted he was not a manager. I later learned there was no manager on site at all. The staff member told me a manager would contact me, but I have yet to hear back. Overall, the lack of quality food, long wait time, and absence of proper management make this location not worth the price. Save your money and go elsewhere.

When I first came in I asked to use the restroom because I was with my 7yr old and she was about to pee her pants. The guy just looked at me and was going to say no but then he processed what I had asked and he said yeah but gave me a look. I told him I was going to order but my kid needed the restroom first and he then told me where the bathroom was. When we came out I went to the register and the guy came up and just stood there. I then told him it was my first time and looked at the menu. I then asked him if there was a favorite burger and he quickly said "argentine" and just stood there again. He took my order and honestly it seemed like he was checked out or zoning out consistently. The order then took 20 mins to complete and it was To Go. I also was hearing as the lady cooking the food was just slapping the burgers on the counter as she finished them, without any care or decency. When I looked at my order I saw the fries were just in small paper boats covered with another paper boat, not something I expected for $6-7 for fries but I digress. First off, I got 3 burgers and 2 fries plus 2 Brazilian lemonades. While I was paying the screen gave me the option to enter my phone number and register to save points, well I wasn't even done registering when the cashier just processed the order and asked me to pay. I told him I was trying to register my phone and if he could get the option up again and he said no I can't. So he just said I had to pay for it and that he was sorry I couldn't get the points. This was extremely rude and felt rushed. I was the only person there ordering too and I told him it was my first time being there so I didn't appreciate the fact that he did that and didn't offer to fix the issue. Secondly, the lemonade was disgustingly bitter. It was gross and I had to throw both out. It tasted like they had blended overripe limes into the drink and they didn't even bother to see that the limes had gone bad. The burgers themselves were honestly average even with all the different flavors or toppings. I got the Nashville, Guadalajara and the Argentine burgers and they all tasted the same. Nothing special and actually tasted quite flavorless. The only difference was that the Guadalajara bun was soggy due to the juices that leaked to the bottom and it tasted mainly like cilantro. The Nashville burger tasted like bacon and that's it. Nothing special. The Argentine one had some flavor in the arugula/chimchurri sauce but aside from that again, the patty was bland. The Parmesan fries lacked flavor and the bacon/cheese fries were just sad. It felt like the just microwaved velvetta on top. Luckily the guy at the register disrupted my registration process because I will not be coming back. If you want plain burgers you're better off going to BK or McDonalds down the street.

On the other hand, they serve up a heaping plate of inconsistency. Three different items from their already small menu weren't available. No Al Pastor? Multiple beers tapped out? And this was early in the evening, not closing time. It made me wonder: supply chain problem, or did they just forget to go shopping? With only one server and one cook on duty, the whole place had a vibe of "we're trying, but please don't look too closely." Service was friendly, but the overall atmosphere felt a little uncomfortable, like something was just... off. As for the food: the Pumba tacos were excellent, the Gobernator shrimp taco was also good, and then there was the "side salad." Calling it a salad feels generous. It looked like someone raided the burger garnish tray and charged me $8 for it. Full iceberg leaves, a few tomato slices, a browning avocado, and purple onion just sat there staring at me, daring me to fight it. It was such a disaster I almost had to set up a GoFundMe page for it. The space itself is modern and vibrant, and the menu ideas are creative -- if only you can actually order them. Unfortunately, the potential doesn't outweigh the frustration. We won't be back.
