Great spot for a smash burger! The fries are fried in tallow, which gives them an incredible crunch and flavor. Definitely order a side of fry sauce with them--so good! It's also my go-to place for a shake. The strawberry and chocolate shakes are both delicious and always hit the spot. I had been to the For the Win location in Montebello but I guess they moved here. The burger was just as I remembered, very delicious but brussels sprouts were so good. I really enjoy that since it is something you won't find at most burger joints. Service was good but the place is very very unappealing. But the food is great so I hope they do well. We ended up over at For the Win, but unfortunately it was a major loss. What could go wrong with smash burgers? I love cheeseburgers. We arrived on a Sunday evening a little after 6pm, and were immediately told that they were out of onions. Despite not being a fan of onions, I found that sad since the burgers only came with onions and pickles. So we ordered a single patty hamburger and a single patty cheeseburger, the hamburger without pickles. We also ordered a side of fries and a side of loaded fries although there won't be grilled onions. For drinks you can get a canned soda for $2.75, we caved and got two. I would have opted for a milkshake but we had plans to get dessert later. Who knows how that would have gone if I had, considering our experience. It wasn't until after I paid that I was informed that there would be a 20 minute wait as they were busy. For a menu with just a few items? These burgers or a grilled cheese, and four side options? I also looked at my receipt and saw a 4% Kitchen Service Fee. Like... really? This is happening more and more? Where are all my fees and tips for working? And after our experience I have no idea where this fee is going to! I had already added a 15% tip too, which proves my point completely on why I rarely do that. I tip at front to have food brought to me and the experience can be really bad, like it was, but they already got a tip so who cares? Steven noticed one of the cooks didn't flip the burger right and it smacked against the metal side of the grill. He simply removed it and continued cooking it. We took a table outside. There were three. The inside was full. We noticed the various cobwebs along the windows. After about ten minutes I noticed we never even got our sodas, so I went inside to retrieve them. I was going to wash my hands in the restroom but whoever was in there was apparently stuck. Maybe the food went through them because they had no desire to come out. I eventually got to wash my hands. I went back outside and when it had now been 25 minutes. As if 20 wasn't bad enough. I had observed multiple people leaving with food that ordered after us and was starting to get extremely irritable. I waited around 7 more minutes to finally get the cashier who was now helping in the kitchen to check my order. I heard him saying my name and the cooks answered with who knows what and he came back to tell me it was coming soon. In the meantime I watched people after me get their food, eat, and even left before we even received our food. I watched two more people who ordered after me get their food. Must be nice. I was told again that it was coming up. While I waited I observed the path to the kitchen and that was horrifying as the floor was nasty, there was clutter and wires all over the place behind the register and leading up to the cooks. So I am assuming we were just skipped or lost or someone received our food before. They don't come out to give you your food so I had to stand and wait forever. After 40 minutes (literally) I was given my food. No apology, no explanation. My burger was also missing the pickle so it was sauce and meat and sauce/cheese meat for us. The loaded fries had burnt congealed cheese with sauce on top. The food wasn't even good after all of this mess. I was completely over it. For The Win was a complete and utter disaster and a definitely loss. This was easily one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. My wife and I came here last evening for dinner and the place was relatively busy based off the size of the establishment (about 5-5 groups of people). The staff apparently cant handle this with a menu of three main items and 4 sides. We had ordered a single smash burger with no pickle and a single smash cheeseburger. The order taker told us they did not have onions (which is one of only three ingredients on the burger besides the meat) which was a complete disappointment. We also ordered a side of fries and a side of loaded fries (again no onions available so this would be just fries, melted cheese and sauce) and two cans of soda (2.75 each which is insane). Upon ordering they told us they were busy and it would be about 20 minutes for the two small burgers and fries. We managed to find a small table outside and began to wait. We waited, waited and waited some more. No drinks or anything given to us at this point. At the 10 minute mark my wife went inside and retrieved our cans of soda as we continued to wait for the food. The wait continues.... and continue.... and continues... and so on and so forth.... At the 25 minute mark (5 minutes after the time we were told) my wife went inside to inquire which was nearly impossible since no one was near the counter. At this point I am completely losing my mind as other patrons who arrived well after us sat at a table next to me outside, bag of food in hand for 4 people and began to eat. They finished their food and drinks and left as our never ending wait and search for our order continues... At the 40+ minute mark my wife is FINALLY given our food and come out to the table. Low and behold, her cheese burger is wrong and missing the pickle. Only I had ordered no pickle on my hamburger (if that's what you want to call this). The fries and burger had absolutely no flavor, salt or seasoning. The "loaded" fries (sans onions for the aforementioned reason) had a single burnt glob of cheese on top that was completely not edible and thus became a 2nd order of regular fries for $3 more. The sauce that was supposed to be on the loaded fries was nowhere to be found for me. The tables were sticky, there were spider webs all over and the cook was something to behold as you watched him lose control of the flat meat patties as he tried to flip them and have them slam into the back metal siding of the grill and stick to it. Instead of tossing this now probably contaminated piece or meat he simply slid it off the back of the metal and back onto the grill. This place has service issues, cleanliness issues, cant control their inventory of ingredients and the food just plain sucks. I have not been this disappointed in a business in a long time and will 100% never return again and I advise you don't either. I really hope they take these concerns to heart and use it as fodder to better their business but I am sure they wont and admit all is good as they basically did when we waited 40 minutes for the worlds crappiest meal. Stay away at all cost and use your money on somewhere that actually tries to provide a good customer experience and product. read more

Was the price for a double smashed patty, no lettuce, no tomatoes, side of secrete sauce that only half filled the condiments container, no drink, added cost for fries worth the price? NO. I finally got the chance to try this smash burger spot, especially after seeing some mixed reviews online. I got lucky, I didn't experience any wait times. When I walked in, I was the only customer. The service was very friendly, and the cashier even recommended a few items on the menu. I ordered the double smash burger with added bacon and the loaded fries (also with bacon). The burger itself was really good. The patties were cooked well with a nice crispy edge. The caramelized onions added a nice sweet touch and the bun was soft and held up well. The star of the burger, though, was definitely their special sauce. It tied everything together perfectly with a zesty flavor. I would compare the impact to the burger as the Cane's sauce to its tenders, but in my opinion for the win's special sauce is slightly better. The loaded fries were a bit underwhelming since the fries themselves were nothing special. Thankfully, the sauce carried them and kept them from being a total miss. Casual burger joint. We were welcomed immediately and sat at one of the only two tables inside the place (total seating for eight). They do have a patio on the side of the building with much more seating. We placed our order at the counter. Unfortunately, they were out of chicken, pickles, and Brussels sprouts. They have milk shakes (strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla); however, they were also out of chocolate and vanilla. During our entire visit, the guys were in the grill area chatting/cussing (lots of "F" bombs) which was open and within earshot of the customers. Not very professional. I also noticed a lot of supplies stored in the back corner of the dining area. Not very nice to look at. Maybe a simple screen could hide this stuff. We ordered three Cheeseburgers, adding bacon, and they were extremely salty. The French fries were okay, and my wife enjoyed her strawberry shake, but said it wasn't anything special. Parking: can be a bit packed given there are other businesses in the same center. However, I did get lucky when I arrived there were a couple spots free. Inside restaurant: clean. I like to support small businesses but $12.50 just for a double cheeseburger is too expensive in this economy especially when you can get a double double combo at In-N-Out for $11. I went with a friend to try this spot out on a Wednesday night an hour before closing and there was no line & wait. I ordered a single patty smash burger, a double patty smash burger, an order of fries and Brussel sprouts. I had the single patty smash burger and it was season nicely. I like how thin the patty was because compare to your average size burger, sometimes I can get sick of eating a whole burger. I have been hooked on smash burgers for a hot minute and For The Win did not disappoint. The patty is incredibly thin and well seasoned. The onions add depth of flavor and their thousand islands is so creamy! The fries are simple, fresh and a nice side dish. I also ordered the onion rings, I prefer a different type of coating but they were still really good. Their ranch...y'all...it was SO good. Many places make their ranch in house and it tastes watery.
