We have been here before and brought some friends who were first timers. Brian was our server. He is top notch. Welcomed us and was very attentive. He gave great suggestions to our friends and they will definitely be back. The food was delicious everything just popped with flavor and cooked just right. Brian even made us a fresh pot of coffee. The only thing that bothered us was the smell. As soon as you walk in from the street it smelled like an odd bad odor we couldn't pin point it. When we entered the dining area it wasn't as bad but we can still smell a faint odd smell, Not sure if they are having sewage issues but it is noticeable when you stand up. I'm honestly very disappointed. We ordered delivery from what used to be one of our favorite local restaurants. Three years ago, we dined here and had an amazing experience, which is why we were excited to order again. Unfortunately, this meal was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had. I ordered the pork ribs and fried shrimp. The ribs were extremely dry--so dry that they tasted like they had been cooked days earlier and reheated multiple times. They were nothing like the ribs I remembered from previous visits. After just a few bites, I started feeling uncomfortable. The fried shrimp was equally disappointing. It had almost no flavor at all and tasted bland and uninspired. My husband ordered the burger, which was advertised as a blend of Wagyu and regular beef. We were expecting something special, but the patty lacked flavor and the quality was disappointing. What surprised us even more was that we live only five minutes away, yet the burger bun arrived completely soggy. The packaging was also poor. The food came in cheap plastic containers without any ventilation holes. For fried foods especially, proper packaging is important to prevent steam from ruining the texture. It felt like very little care was put into preparing the order for delivery. To make matters worse, both my husband and I experienced stomach discomfort and excessive gas afterward, and we were still feeling it the next day. What makes this experience especially disappointing is that this was my husband's birthday dinner. I chose this restaurant because of the wonderful memories we had here years ago, but the food quality was nowhere near what we remembered. I genuinely cannot understand how food of this quality was considered acceptable to send out to customers. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I felt compelled to share it. Been here a few times and I keep coming back for the Bodega burger and the stout beer they offer. Aside from the burger, everything else on the menu is pretty pricey especially the steak options. Service has always been great here and it can get very busy on the weekends so I would definitely recommend to make a reservation ahead of time. read more

We came here for a BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION and he made reservations for 8 people at 7pm on Saturday. There's a SECRET password to actually get into the restaurant. We were taken to our seat which was a NICE private seating with its on TV screen. It has a nice wall which made it sound a bit quieter but, then the waiter came and said OOPS sorry we gave you the wrong seats and so we were taken to the SEATS near the restroom and it was so LOUD... 2 orders TOMAHAWK: 10/10 The food was EXCELLENT!!! OMG the CORN TORTILLAS was the best I've ever had!!! I would just be so happy to have the CORN TORTILLAS but, their meats are all really flavorful and tender too!!!... CAULIFLOWER: 10/10 The flavor and texture of the cauliflower was so good!!! BRUSSELS SPROUTS: 10/10 I loved the sauce so much and the Brussels sprouts were so adorably cute and small. It's usually bitter but, it doesn't taste as bitter here and the sauce was just AMAZING!!!! SERVICE: 8/10 Good but, could be better! Just went back to give this place another chance. We didn't make reservations but according to online it was a 5 minute wait. So we went. The hostess came out and asked if we had a reservation, we said no. The couple behind us also said no. The hostess then recognized them and said "I'm going to take care of you"! A couple of minutes later another hostess comes out and asked us again, we said no, but the couple behind us said "yes". It was very obvious that the first hostess put their name on the reservation. This place is a joke. The hostess took the couple that walked in behind us because the hostess recognized them. She Walked into the back and added them to a waiting list. A different hostess walked up and called them by name. Very obvious that she gave them priority over us even though all 4 us walked in without reservations. Bad character running the show for sure. We refuse to give them a dollar of our money. The owner needs to beware. As patrons we can easily choose not to ever support a business. Times are tough. The food was actually good, but unfortunately the service completely ruined the experience for us. We were a party of 6 and ordered 2 El Comals, grilled octopus, buttermilk fried chicken tenders, beers, and apple juices. The food itself was enjoyable, but the service was extremely inattentive. We constantly had to flag someone down for things we needed, including extra plates and tongs for the El Comal. It honestly felt like we were pulling teeth just to get basic things. We were also never offered refills. The biggest issue for me was how one of our toddlers was treated. One of our kids started screaming, and one of the workers actually mocked our toddler and screamed back with her coworkers. That was extremely uncomfortable and completely unprofessional. We understand toddlers can be loud, but having restaurant employees mock and yell back at a child is not something I expected. The staff also just didn't seem to have a good attitude throughout our visit. We felt like we were constantly trying to get someone's attention instead of being taken care of. It's really unfortunate because the food was good, but the experience was not. Good food doesn't make up for poor service and making a family feel uncomfortable. Such a fun and unexpected spot with a speak easy feel. We stopped by for bites and drinks and were pleasantly pleased with the vibe, drinks, food and friendly staff. You must make a reservation but are able to get seated as a walk-in if its not busy. We had a reservation and were seated within minutes. The front entrance display looks like a butcher shop which is actually functional and not just for display, in other words you can order a nice cut of beef to take home. Once you pass the freezer door entrance inside, you'll be seated in a small dining area with a full-size bar and a wall display of locked Steins which actually belong to club members (which on its own is a whole other can of surprisingly cool worms to delve into). Overall, we had a fun time and enjoyed everything we ordered so we'll def be back. Another plus, there's a free easily accessible parking structure across the street. read more

Absolutely LOVED the ambiance! Such a beautiful vibe & extremely chill. Not what I expected at all when we walked back, but soooo worth it. The food was delicious! The cocktails were okay, they looked great though. The Caesar salad chicken sandwich was SO GOOD! Chicharrones w guacamole was delicious! The wings, carne asada fries & chips/ salsa were delicious. The food was good. I ordered an appetizer, ribs, they were very tasty; the sauce makes it. I should have asked for more sauce, next time. My son ordered the burger with avocado and crispy fries, that way you make sure they come out hot. I think he got a beer too. The service and ambiance were great. My daughter came later and I wanted to share a scoop of ice cream with her, but, they don't serve ice cream by the scoop, you have to get three scoops which is such a waste of food. The Mexican chocolate ice cream was ok, but it seems like it was a pint of Thrifty's and we only ate the equivalent of one scoop, if that. Our bill including tip was almost $100. Recommend making a reservation for this place before you go. You walk through the "freezer door" to get into the inside of the speakeasy where it is spacious and has cute, dimly lit ambiance with a bar. Started with chips and salsa, not complimentary or bottomless, unfortunately. Chips were good and salsa was HOT, but delish. Then had the guava summer salad - light and refreshing with guava, figs and avocado on it. Ordered a guava seltzer - not great and barely has guava flavor and would not order again. Then for dinner we got the El Comal (chicken, tristar angus skirt steak and pork adobada that comes with salsa and homemade corn and flour tortillas). This dish can be shared and serves 2-3 ppl. This dish was AMAZING. Each meat was cooked perfectly - buttery, moist, flavorful, melt in your mouth pieces of meat. I was actually throroughly surprised at how good it was and was very full and still had leftovers. Will DEFINITELY be back. read more

We came here for date night and thankfully we had reservations, because the wait time was 45 minutes long. It was my first time here, you walk into what looks like a meat market store front, you then wait and are let in through a freezer door, kind of like a speakeasy. We ordered their sizzling hot plate with beef, pork, and chicken, it comes with tortillas and a bit of grilled veggie and two pieces of cheese. We had beer and wine . This place is such a vibe for date night! Brian our server recommended the guava seltzer. It totally hit, it was strong and had a great flavor. The queso fundido with mushrooms and homemade tortillas was the perfect start! El comal is what we had for the main dish, 10/10. The meat was tender with delicious flavor. What I've Tried - Guacamole de Chicharron - Chile Morita Wings - Chile Colorado - Chile Verde Mac and Cheese La Bodega Brewing is such a hidden gem! The food is AMAZING (dinner menu). If this place wasn't so far, I would visit more often. Service is great and decor is beautiful! The IPA and seltzer I tried were good. Chile Morita Wings is so flavorful that you don't need ranch! Chile Colorado with the handmade corn tortillas and beans are amazing. Although the tortilla is thick, all the flavors together work. I always get the same things when I visit but will need to be brave and try the brunch menu one day! Parking is easy! There is a structure across the street. They take reservations! Normally I don't write a review but breakfast was disappointing. Pancakes were like frisbees and lacked flavor. Who doesn't provide regular coffee? Disappointed with that as well. Eggs, potatoes and bacon all good, bread was cold. The service was very good and accommodating and server took care of our issues. Breakfast prices are decent. Maybe lunch and dinner is better. The music was annoying same constant beat- definitely don't go if you're nursing a hangover. I liked that they removed the door that leads to the main dining / bar area. They might consider using a drape or door that leads from the dinning area to the kitchen as our table had a good view of inside the ladies restroom when they entered and exited. Maybe this place is just not for older folks. read more

As described on their menu -the Jimoto brewed with rice, this lager strikes the balance between maltiness and hops that are light herbal with hints of sweet lemon. It was until we were ready to go I and asked for a to go box and asked for water, didn't bother asking if we wanted to order more drinks or food. Stopped by for the first time for diner on a Thursday night and it was ok. The girl at the front was nice and opened the second door for us. The ambiance is great upon entrance; the place is nice. We sat down, they took our order and the food came out in a timely manner, well most of it, but the drinks were delayed. Ordered juice for my son that never arrived after being told twice it was on its way. I ordered a second margarita that also never arrived. I will say that these items were not on our check. Food was tasty and we enjoyed dinner and ice cream for dessert, but service was a little slow and it wasn't too busy. I'd say visit this place if you haven't been to a speakeasy and try their food, and hopefully you have a better experience than ours. read more

I went today as a college student on a outing with my lovely mother. Firstly, it's so fun to visit this place as the entrance leaves you to think you're in one place when you have yet to enter another. Getting seated was quick and that's about it. My mother and I ordered micheladas. We were told "the mix is bad today and I don't want to serve it to you". we were really caught off guard by that response but moved on to select different drinks. My mother - a sangria wine. she was caught off by how bubbly it was. she thought it was fine. For me - a raspberry margarita. I learned it's agave wine and not tequila in the beverage. it tasted fine but wasn't my favorite it kinda tasted like a canned drink from my college town in Isla Vista. After being sat and placing in our drink orders it took a long time for a waiter to actually make and bring out our drinks. same for when it came time to pay, it was difficult unless you stare them down and wave. the service was really slow, we received 2 appetizers way before our drinks. server timing needs to be improved. it took a super long time to get serviced, receive drinks, and pay. Mac and cheese was okay, it was just not a favorite. We also had Brussels sprouts m they were flavored well but not crispy and incredibly soft. I liked the candied bacon best because it's crunchy. it's fun to check out but very pricey read more
