OMG SO GOOD! It's like being back in Mexico! From the outside, to be honest, it looks kinda weird but once you sit down and start eating, it all makes sense. I went to madres brunch in uptown Whittier couple times now. I enjoy the food I usually get the chilaquiles "the green ones are my favorite". Also tried the birria sandwich, parfait and pancakes. The coffee is a hit and miss I feel like I haven't found one that I really like. The hot chocolate is so good!! Location is not that big but they do have several tables. The only thing is that sometimes they do take a little long to take out the food but I understand they are busy for the most part. read more

Ordered the Steak & Eggs, a 10oz flat iron steak, two sunny side up eggs, country potatoes, and toast. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, but lacked a strong sear and needed a bit more seasoning for my taste. I found myself adding salt to bring out the flavor. The sunny side up eggs were cooked well, with set whites and rich, runny yolks that paired nicely with the steak and potatoes. The country potatoes had a good texture, soft on the inside with crispy skin, but also needed a little more seasoning to really stand out. The chile de árbol salsa had a nice kick and helped add some much needed flavor to the plate. Toast was okay. The slices were a bit thick, so the center stayed too soft and did not get as crispy as I prefer. Overall, the brunch was decent and executed well texture wise, but leaned a bit bland for my preference and needed extra seasoning to really shine. read more

For the price, the portions are fairly hefty so make sure to come on an empty stomach. Portion size was good but the food was ok. The house coffee was horrible it tasted burnt, my husband had the Mexican coffee and he said there was a weird after taste. The service was good. Stop by on a Monday. The restaurant was not too busy and we were immediately greeted by the bus boy. Server came and I ordered the red chilaquiles with an extra scrambled egg and my husband was stuck between the breakfast sandwich and the Popeye, he chosed the popeye. The presentation of the chilaquiles was very nice However the chilaquiles were very dry and the beans tasted straight like out of the can. My husband plate came with a side of queso panela and as soon as he took a bite he spited it out, the cheese had gone bad and tasted extremely bitter and sour. It smelled funky too, I don't know how the kitchen didn't realize it was expired before sending out the plate. We couldn't get the servers attention so we asked the bus boy if he could call her over and he did and we explained what was going on and to ask for a different plate.Her only response was "I'll tell the manager" took the plate and left. His sandwich came out and the mixed green salad was dark and looked old as if it had been in the cooler for more than a week. At that point we just asked for the check because clearly something is not going right in that kitchen. They are not checking their product for freshness. The server brought the check and told us that $3.50 had been discounted from his sandwich! The manager never stopped by the table to check on us or apologize for the mistake, and I get it mistakes can happen but serving any form of expired dairy can cause food borne illnesses immediately. What if it was a child that ate that cheese? Please do better!!! The only positive from the place were the lattes and the bus boys attention! read more

Everyone is very nice, our server was very busy but attentive and other servers are very willing and accommodating to bring you whatever that you ask for. I imagine they had been sitting and nobody picked them up until 30 minutes later when our plates were brought to the table. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed with the quality and taste of the food. The chilaquiles were extremely dry and almost tasted stale, and the chicken was very chewy and unpleasant to eat. The pancakes and French toast were overly sweet--so much sugar that it overpowered any real flavor. I also ordered an iced vanilla latte, and it was not good at all; it tasted like watered-down coffee with barely any vanilla flavor. That being said, the customer service was great. The birria and consome was a little bland I had to add more salt to it, which honestly says a lot because I'm a light salt type of gal. The sauce on chilaquiles tasted familiar like they used pato sauce, which is fine, but if I'm going to a restaurant I would hope they made their own especially for this price. It felt like it was missing something. An egg might have balanced the dish out but it doesn't come with it and you have to pay extra to add. It was dry even after I poured the consome on top. My bf got the lomo saltado chilaquiles. He said it actually was spicy but the steak was not that great. He would not order again for $25. The only part he liked was the chilaquiles. The pistachio waffle had the aesthetic but lacked balance. The waffle itself was pretty sweet but on the drier side for how thick it was and was hard to cut. Ice cream was included but wasn't enough moisture to balance the dryness of the waffle. It could have used more syrup but it would have just made it way too sweet. I love pistachios and was so excited to try this but I was so disappointed with it. We tried the cold brew flight and was not a fan. I couldn't taste any of the cold brew. The foam wasn't that creamy foam texture I enjoy, and the sweetness was too articifial. The only thing I liked was the banana chips on one of them. My husband and I decided to try this spot for brunch today. It was a 25 minute wait, so we got on the waitlist and walked around for a bit. Once our table was ready they gave us a call. We were then seated and had our order taken shortly after. I ordered the Birria Benedict with an Iced Strawberry Horchata, while my husband tried their Madres Chilaquiles with a Horchata Iced Latte. The menu here is pretty unique, and has a lot of interesting choices. I think the food is very good, while my husband thinks it's good but not great. He says the birria is inconsistent, with some of it being satisfyingly tender, but other parts dry and chewy. He also feels it needs more salt and flavor. We both like the composition of the dishes though, and we both think the drinks are delicious. The prices here are high, but the location is in Uptown Whittier, so that's to be expected. On the other hand, the portions are pretty generous, even for a breakfast/brunch spot. Our waitress, Cari, was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The restaurant atmosphere however is a bit lacking. It feels crowded and clinical. They could use more greenery, and just an overhaul on the general vibe to be more homey/authentic. This restaurant was perfect. Easy parking and no lines went we got there, but it definitely was a full house at noon. Great for big groups. Lots of brunch options. Mainly Mexican dishes so I had no idea what to order. I just went with the Avocado toast sampler. 3 half toasts with different toppings. They have an option with two whole toasts with just egg is supposed to be a vegetarian option but I guess you can always add bacon to that. We visited Madres in Whittier for our Autism Moms Mother's Day brunch, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. The service was extremely slow from start to finish. It took a long time for our order to be taken, the food took even longer to arrive, and throughout the meal no one checked on our table or offered refills. The biggest issue was the food itself. I ordered pozole from their Mother's Day menu, but what was served was clearly birria consommé with hominy, not pozole. As someone from Guadalajara, I know the difference in flavor and preparation. When I brought it up to our server, he admitted they had been debating whether to make pozole that day because it normally does not sell well, and mentioned they may have mixed the two due to not having enough prepared. That was very frustrating because if an item is unavailable, it should simply be communicated to customers rather than serving a completely different dish. I was genuinely looking forward to pozole, and the meal did not reflect what was advertised on the menu. Traditional pozole is typically prepared with pork, while what I received was clearly beef birria consommé with hominy added. In addition to the food issues, several staff members were unprofessional and unfriendly during our visit. To make matters worse, gratuity was still added despite the poor service and after I had already tipped the cook, who was the only person who made an effort to help us. Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially for a special Mother's Day gathering. I would not recommend this restaurant based on our visit. read more
