I've heard many good things about this place, so I decided to try it. It was cold outside as well as inside, I had to wear 2 jackets to stay warm. The place was large divided into three sections with many tables. The girl told us to sit anywhere so we picked a table that seats 4 because I saw another couple do the same. Under her breathe she said it's usually for three or more but it's ok. I pretended not to hear. The place wasn't full so I didn't move, more people came in and didi the same! Time to order we put in our order and she went to make the non refillable cafe de olla, it wasn't what I expected. It wasn't warm and tasted watery with a hint of cinnamon- sad! The meal came and my eggs were cold from sitting on the window too long. No the restaurant wasn't packed maybe 5 tables. I never leave a bad review, so I ordered a meal to go- Thankfully it was perfect. So I'm assuming things were cooler because the place was cold. Maybe if the heater was on, the food won't get so cold??? The place has big windows in the front which brings in the cool air. Hopefully no one else experienced the same. I really hate to give only 2 stars but I can't lie on the experience we had here today. Maybe due to the fact it was a Sunday afternoon - middle of rush hour, but our dining experience left a negative impression and we will not come back. Efforts were made at the end of our brunch by the management and waitress in which we are grateful for, but I left embarrassed. This place was hyped up and I wanted to treat my son-in-law to his first meal of his birthday day. Started off with our drink order. We ordered an horchata latte on ice, cafe de olla, blended abuelita coffee. Drinks were good but we enjoyed them 10 min apart from each other. It took almost 20 min to just get the 1st drink on the table. We stayed patient, finally placed our meal order. Waited another 45 min for the food to come out, which is understandable. Again, we could not experience and enjoy our meals together. We generally like to wait for everyone to get their food before digging in, but we sat there waiting for all 3 plates to come in at different times. 10 min apart. When you're hungry, those 10 min seem like a lifetime and then everyone's food was getting colder by the minute. Usually your whole table's meals come in at the same time- but not today! To top it off the last plate to come in was cool not hot or warm. It was a sad plate of chilaquiles for the birthday boy. Sigh. Very dry even at sight! You can clearly see, it was sitting somewhere else for quite some time. I know my son tried his best to eat the plate, but he was struggling. I was a victim of hyping up this place and was so embarrassed. I had to reach out to the manager to work with me on his plate. I got the Rancheros and my daughter had the pastor omelet. Our plates were ok. The pastor omelet had the best review on the table. My daughter said she wished it had a side. We could have went somewhere local and saved the gas, time and money! For my first time I had the Madres Chilaquiles (with Birria). The decor was cute and pretty, like they say "instagrammable." The space is big and has many tables and it looks clean. The server and other staff were friendly, patient and attentive. Great customer service. As for my dish, it wasn't bad but I wasn't personally impressed. I did like the touch of crumbled pork rinds for crunch but overall they are just not my favorite chilaquiles. And the amount of egg seemed so small. But like I said, nothing was terrible. read more

I went with the highest hopes that the food was going to be delicious. 4.5 stars is pretty solid. Unfortunately, the whole experience fell incredibly short. I brought my mom and husband after leaving the PIH hospital. (My mom had a small outpatient procedure and I had promised her something yummy to eat after) We arrived, there was no wait, was seated right away. The waiter handed us menus and left. When hw arrived to gwt our drinks order enough time had laps to know that we were ready to order all at once. My husband and mom ordered hot beverages and I ordered an iced cafe de Olla. My husband ordered bacon and eggs, Mom and I ordered Mole chilaquiles. The beverages arrived around the time the meals were arriving. My husband thought his meal was OK. 2 of the 3 slices of bacon were edible as 1 was so fatty and not crispy. As for the 2 mole plates, they were so disappointing. They arrived warm at best, dry, and nothing like I thought it would taste. My mom who was the hungriest, after fasting from her procedure, left more than half. It just lacked flavor and freshness. Definitely not worth the $22 per plate. My iced café de Olla was so watered down, no taste what's so ever. The other beverages were ok. I will say the breakfast potatoes were the best thing on table. The server was no where to be found from just the bare minimum. I had wave him down for salsa, and not once came to check in. Very disappointing. Never will I return again. I wished I would of just gone home and made better food. read more

Great food, cute place and good service. Met a friend from Fontana and enjoyed some chilaquiles. I don't do spice so I always have to modify, well the only modification to my "chilango" chilaquiles was light on the green sauce, these were so good, it's an omelette with the chips inside so the chips weren't just dry like at other restaurants ... Love that they have black beans and they were generous with the cheese... maybe more sour cream on top. Vanilla latte was good. And friends had the chilaquiles rojos with birria, they said it was very tasty and bit too much tortilla chips, could have been a lil meatier. Overall good. read more

Madres was a bit of mixed bag for me and my friends. The presentation of the food was quite excellent and in general the flavor of the chilaquiles and seafood omelet was pretty solid, there were a few aspects to our meal that were pretty lackluster. Our two biggest complaints were that the "loaded baked potato" that came with some of the dishes looked like a sad boiled potato wiith a smidgeon of toppings on it, and the belgian waffle was dense and not crispy on the outside.  This being said, I personally enjoyed the chilaquiles and the omelet dish. I wouldn't say it was above or beyond, but I definitely cleaned my plate with those two. The coffee selection was also pretty fun! They are sweeter concoctions and highly flavored so it was more of a delicious fun coffee beverage as opposed to finer high quality beans but I feel thats totally acceptable for the type of establishment they are.  Overall, there are some solid aspects to the food here and there are some fun elements to the cocktails and preparations, with some relatively big flavor caveats to me. I personally enjoyed it enough to not regret visiting but probably would not go there again. read more

We visited Madres in Whittier for our Autism Moms Mother's Day brunch, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. The service was extremely slow from start to finish. It took a long time for our order to be taken, the food took even longer to arrive, and throughout the meal no one checked on our table or offered refills. The biggest issue was the food itself. I ordered pozole from their Mother's Day menu, but what was served was clearly birria consommé with hominy, not pozole. As someone from Guadalajara, I know the difference in flavor and preparation. When I brought it up to our server, he admitted they had been debating whether to make pozole that day because it normally does not sell well, and mentioned they may have mixed the two due to not having enough prepared. That was very frustrating because if an item is unavailable, it should simply be communicated to customers rather than serving a completely different dish. I was genuinely looking forward to pozole, and the meal did not reflect what was advertised on the menu. Traditional pozole is typically prepared with pork, while what I received was clearly beef birria consommé with hominy added. In addition to the food issues, several staff members were unprofessional and unfriendly during our visit. To make matters worse, gratuity was still added despite the poor service and after I had already tipped the cook, who was the only person who made an effort to help us. Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially for a special Mother's Day gathering. I would not recommend this restaurant based on our visit. read more

Best experience ever! My husband and I drove from Claremont all the way to the Whittier Madres Brunch for breakfast. It was a well worth trip...the food delicious, the drinks to die for and the atmosphere was great with good music and such hospitality! We order a flight of mimosas that were phenomenal. Then our food chilequiles with steak and a chile relleno omelette, both served with care and were delicious! I had an horchata latte to round out my meal and it was perfectly creamy and cinnamony. This rating is a little tough - I didn't have any issues with the food. The birria omelette was juicy and rich, and the Benedict was very solid. However, the staff just wasn't really professional at any point. A lot of the hosts were just on their phones when I tried getting their attention because we needed silverware. We needed silverware because they never gave us any by the time the food came out. It took us multiple efforts to get our servers when a few of the servers were talking and laughing with each other, ignoring us calling them. I understand brunch is more of a slow laid back vibe but I had a flight to catch after and heard really great things about Madres so the entire experience was a little bit of anxiety throughout. This was my first time at a Madre's Brunch and it was FABULOUS. I got the breakfast sandwich and the ingredients were so yummy. My table also got the Manhattan French toast and it was a large portion and also so good! My favorite item was the dulce de leche latte. Aside from the great food, the energy of the restaurant was so cute. Colorful walls, good service, and roomy for how busy it was for brunch at noon on a Saturday. I live in Monrovia and will definitely be trying that location soon! read more

Service is warm and friendly, though things get a bit stretched when the place fills up -- which it does (very much brunch "Instagram crowd" energy). Plates sometimes hit the table at different times, and drinks may arrive with a mini wait -- but when that mimosa flight finally lands? Worth it. Totally worth every penny. read more

My wife and I visited for a weekday brunch during a break from work, hoping to beat the weekend rush after seeing the photos and strong online reviews. The restaurant itself had a pleasant ambiance and appeared well-staffed, which made the experience that followed even more surprising. Despite there being only a few other parties dining, it took roughly 15 minutes just to receive coffee and water--and only after we asked twice. Several staff members were gathered at the front chatting, which made the delay feel less like a staffing issue and more like a lack of urgency. When the coffee finally arrived, it unfortunately tasted burnt. Taking our order took another 10 minutes. I ordered the sampler toast, and my wife chose the Birria Benedict. After that, we waited close to 30 minutes while guests who arrived after us were served promptly. We checked in twice for updates and were told someone would "check on it." When the food arrived, the execution was inconsistent. My eggs--ordered over easy--were all cooked differently, though to their credit, the server quickly brought out replacement eggs. The salmon, however, was overcooked to the point of being dry and jerky-like. The birria was the standout item, but the rest of my wife's dish didn't taste particularly fresh. Hoping to salvage the experience, we decided to order a plain waffle--thinking perhaps it was a specialty. Unfortunately, while we watched other dishes leave the kitchen within 15-20 minutes, the waffle never arrived. During this time, smoke began filling the restaurant from the kitchen, which didn't inspire confidence. We ultimately asked for the check. When it arrived, I asked about the missing waffle and was asked if I had placed the order with another server (I had not). The server offered to get a manager, but after nearly two hours in the restaurant, we were simply ready to leave. Overall, this was a disappointing experience given the high ratings on Yelp and Google. While every restaurant can have an off day, this visit felt like a series of avoidable missteps. If you have other brunch options nearby, you may want to consider them. Hopefully this review helps future guests make an informed decision. read more

Wanted to try something new with my family and friends while we were in the LA-area. Madres Brunch came up, and the very yummy-looking pancakes caught my attention. From then on, I knew this was the place we were going to for brunch. The staff here were VERY friendly, efficient, and showed care in all that they did. Now the food... can I say, the Churro French Toast has to be one of the top French toasts I've ever had. It almost had a cinnamon roll type taste, but the churro pieces made it a MUST GET for the next time I come. The chilaquiles verdes w/ birria were also really good. It was definitely enough for my wife and I to share. Lastly, the iced pistachio latte... let me tell you... I could've ordered least 3 of these things. Highly recommend! The atmosphere was great for our group of 7, and the vibe was chill enough to bob your end to the music or have a great convo with your peoples. 10 out of 10, will be back again! read more

And the service there was great and they always checked in on us to make sure everything was good and if we needed anything else. We ordered the chilaquiles and the Rojos with birria was very good. And very filling, was only able to finish half of it before being full. The Verdes with steak was also good but we had to add some hot sauce and then it was better! Visited the restaurant around 9:30am on a Friday, not busy so no wait. Restaurant definitely has a "girly" atmosphere that was appealing to my wife and daughter. My wife enjoyed her Madres chilaquiles, which has Birria , I thought they were good but definitely lacked salt, the tortilla chips were crispy and not soggy which is a huge plus for me. My daughter had Belgium waffles which she said were "soo good", I didn't try. My Ensenada Omelette was mediocre, too oily, too mushy, seafood was overcooked, the house hot sauce was very good, helped to cut the richness of the omelette. Well we came here with high expectations because of all the hype on social media and sadly we were so disappointed by the food and service. I ordered a waffle with eggs and bacon. The waffle was cold and the eggs were colder. The bacon was precooked and it wasn't very appealing. Aft r telling the server about my food they brought new eggs but they looked overcooked and had a strange taste, and the waffle had to be changed to pancakes because their waffle maker broke. My friend ordered green chilaquiles but got red ones instead and the server didn't even ask if she could change them. We both ordered cafe de olla, but it really wasn't all that. Needless to say we were seriously disappointed and won't be returning and don't really recommend this place at all. read more
