We had a table of 12, and our server was phenomenal. So sweet, attentive, and smiling the entire time. Sorry I didn't catch your name!!! Food is your average american breakfast like dennys and ihop, but I will say that the portions are a smudge more generous. You get what you order, but taste is nothing super memorable. With how great the service is here, I would choose this place (and probably this location) over another breakfast spot for our big family to dine at again! read more

Came out with the family to celebrate my father's good news. First impression as it was our first time here was the staff was pretty friendly and it looked clean. I ordered the New York steak medium well with rice pilaf and a salad with ranch. My food also came with corn and 2 onion rings. I received my steak and it was medium rare, I decided to just eat it. The steak was okay, the rice was disgusting, it was not rice pilaf at all. It was some sort of orange rice that was lacking flavor and tasted rubbery. The corn was your basic corn no flavor. The onion rings were just okay. The salad was extremely watered down, you couldn't even taste the ranch as it was drowned in water. The only thing I liked from this place was the banana shake and the service. I do not see us returning to this place as we were very let down. read more

First time here after passing this diner for years. There's accessible parking in the small center, which makes it pretty easy to get in and out. Walking inside, it definitely gives off that classic, old-school diner vibe. We were seated right away since it wasn't too busy at the time. The menu is huge, almost overwhelming, so it took us a minute to decide what to order. We kept it simple and went with the traditional pancakes, eggs, and bacon, plus a California burger. The portions were decent, but overall, the food quality was just okay. Nothing terrible, just not particularly memorable, it had a bit of that "cheap" taste to it. That said, the service really stood out. Our server was kind and patient, especially while dealing with my little one being a bit of a handful, which I definitely appreciated. I have had their chicken. Excellent the side choices are like any 60's diner. They have been a Whittier staple restaurant for decades. Enjoy, it has changed in some of the cooks they have. Came here on a Sunday with the family. I've passed this restaurant up so many times and just now decided to try it. I ordered steak and eggs and it was so good. All the food is reasonably priced as well. The server was helpful and attentive, he kept an eye out for refills on our coffee which was nice to not have to continually ask. It has been some time being away from Jack's Restaurant and was able to make some yesterday around 12:30pm. Its always busy but especially on a Sunday had to wait about 30 minutes. Got a booth and again they provide great food. I ordered the wonderful Blueberry Pancakes which are always good but this particular batch was amazing with plenty of blueberries baked inside the pancakes. Had brunch here for the first time today and it was solid. Prices are actually better than what you'd pay at IHOP or Denny's, which was a nice surprise. Parking kinda limited. Bathroom very clean. Place very clean staff very friendly. They have limited drinks beer and wine. Plenty of items to order. Love you can have breakfast anytime. Had the dinner special which was the top sirloin, green beans, baked potato, cheese bread. Had the vegetable beef soup wow loved this whole meal. Add strawberry cheesecake ice cream it was awesome. I've decided to take up visiting diners once a week on Saturdays on my mini moto and Jack's Whittier was the first one on my list! Hopefully not the last as I look to continue my own little Saturday tradition. Anyway, I'm a sucker for old architecture from the older days. The buildings, the decor, the vibe - it all has so much more character compared to what we have today. That's what drew me here to begin with. More importantly, the food was good. I ordered a Denver omelette and thankfully I was able to substitute some items for a few slices of tomatoes and iceberg lettuce (doing a low-carb thing right now). The omelette was cooked just right. Not rubbery, not dry, and not under. Not going to lie though, I wish I wasn't on a diet because I absolutely love greasy diner food and I'm certain they would have not disappointed. Service was really friendly and the food came out quick! I got the best seat in house too since I wanted to dine at the countertop. I got a nice little backdrop for my photos too. I had fond memories of breakfast at Jack's with my family in the 90's and early 2000's. Today I wanted to treat my boyfriend to breakfast so we went to Jack's. The highlight was seeing an old friend from high school there, but my boyfriend's skillet breakfast was burnt at the bottom, the coffee was watery and the overall quality of the food was lackluster. Went for the first time to try their breakfast on Sunday morning at 9am. Busy, but we were greeted and seated right away. Attentive service is a big deal to me, and theirs is excellent. Fun, kinda inadvertently hip 70's decor reminded me of coffee shops like Sambo's and Bob's Big Boy from my childhood. Jack's has great food at great prices with generous portions. We each got the $14.95 sausage & eggs; came with 4 links (You typically get 2-3 links elsewhere). White toast was really good, side of biscuits & gravy was generous and tasty. Excellent hash browns, we both noticed, had never had them prepared quite like that. I kinda felt sorry for them only because of the adjacent Whittier Blvd street construction making access to their driveway a bit tricky, probably hurts their business a bit. Plenty of parking. Originally opened in 1933 I drove from West LA specifically for this diner and I'm very happy that I did so. I am working through a list of all diners in LA County and next on the list was Jack's. I was excited to try it based on how many decades it's been open and also just from the pictures I could tell this sort of architecture and vibe that I want to see for a diner breakfast. They have a parking lot attached with free parking and even though it was crowded we were able to be seated after about a 5 min wait. Our server was extremely polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. The interior looks like a true LA retro diner with the Googie architecture and plenty of booth and counter seating. Since it was opened prior to the 1950s, it doesn't have the rock 'n' roll theme which I was glad to see since a lot of the newer diners copy that 1950s aesthetic. They have a very large menu so it was hard to choose what I wanted to order but I settled on the Steak Skillet because I'd read a lot of great reviews about it. I will say that it is very good and the steak is very tender and flavorful. They don't skimp on the portion sizes and overall I was very happy with the dish. We also ordered some bakery items and everything was very tasty and made us want to visit again soon. This restaurant is one of the gems in Whittier. What really stands out is the friendly service and easy pace. The menu is full of options, from pasta to fried chicken. I enjoy the rueben sandwich, and their dessert is very good... especially the cheesecake. They do tend to cater to an older crowd, so don't expect salty or spicy. The place was nice. Diner ambiance. Staff was friendly but a little forgetful. First she forgot the soups and we never received our bread. They still forgot one soup so they gave it to me when we left. The lentil soup didn't really taste like lentil as it has way too many things mixed in it. Loved the chicken soup. It was a meaningful walk down memory lane. I lived in Whittier for about seven years--from age two to nine--and attended nearby Lydia Jackson Elementary for kindergarten, second, and third grade. We lived in a little California bungalow just down the street from Jack's, within walking distance. I have fond memories of coming here as a kid with my parents and extended family--most of whom have since passed on--so this visit felt like a quiet reunion with the past. I'm happy to report that, in the best way, not much has changed. Jack's is a Whittier institution and has been for over ninety years. It's one of the few "Good Old Days" places still standing, and it retains that classic diner charm and ambiance that's hard to find these days. Though updated with modern amenities, the mid-century-modern decor and architecture--checkered floors, vintage-patterned wallpaper, chrome accents, cozy booths, and a small counter--remain beautifully intact, throwbacks to a bygone era. Vintage photographs line the walls, showcasing decades of local history and familiar faces. Jack's is well-loved by locals who know where to find good food. It's not fancy, but that's part of the appeal. The menu focuses on staple American comfort food, so don't expect anything fancy, but it does it well. The service is still as prompt and attentive as I remember it being in my childhood, which speaks to the pride they take in their hospitality. I kept it simple: a basic bacon-and-egg sandwich with mayo, fries with ranch, and a tall glass of iced tea. It was just as good as I remembered--succulent without being greasy, and perfectly portioned for the price. Jack's serves some of the best iced tea around, and I don't say that lightly--I'm a bit of a connoisseur, thanks to my Arkansas-born grandmother who knew a proper iced tea with lemon when she saw one. I hope to return sooner next time--without another decade passing. Jack's is more than just a diner. For many of us, it's a touchstone. Was in town and have not been here in quite sometime so stopped and got the julienne salad with their French dressing. This is by far my favorite salad and dressing they serve. Food is great here and have to give them a try. Too bad it wasn't a Sunday because been craving their chicken and rice soup. Place is nice and clean with a great homey atmosphere with friendly staff and ample parking. When in Whittier stop by and won't be disappointed. Went there yesterday for lunch for the first time of recommendation for my friend went with a group of seven we had good service and it was good old-fashioned Diner vibe without getting all retro and all of us were pleased with the food. It was delicious. I had the club sandwich, which is one of my go to others had fried chicken, which they really enjoyed. The tortilla soup was over. The top. Pancakes were good definitely will return and the other thing that was nice. It was past the busy time, but they also did not rush us out. The reason I am leaving this 1 star review is because of the service I received on Friday. To start the host, I'm not sure his name but he's been there previous times and has never been very welcoming....not a great start. Then Jorge was my server I believe, though he was reluctant to give me his name (weird) so I asked someone else who told me. His attitude was terrible, he didn't check up on our group for long periods of time, honestly we just felt forgotten. The food was okay, we dine here regularly and I probably wouldn't have felt the need to leave a review had the service been better. Let this be a message to management that some employees need some more customer service training. There are some outdoor covered seating areas available as well! Inside: It has a cute diner feel, there is a lot of seating options available. You can ever get a few lottery scratchers while you wait! Public restrooms are available. Food: The food was good! The ranch with the side salad was so good, the fries were fresh and good. This place was ok. I had their steak skillet and was pretty good and filling. Instead of having a toast I tried the biscuit and gravy. The biscuits were OK, but the gravy was very tasty and it went well together. I also tried their chicken and waffles. Chicken like the little flavor and the waffle was not what I expected.
