The staff was friendly and welcoming but the drinks weren't crazy good lol I tried the horchata matcha, and it didn't taste that good. I feel like the flavors don't compliment each other.

I frequent this bakery and am always blown away how good everything is. The moment you walk in you're greeted with the smell of fresh baked goods and a team that warm and welcoming. The display cases are packed with amazing pan dulces, cakes, other items, and everting tastes just as good as it looks. I tried several it's including their champurrado and each item was delicious, fresh, and clearly made with care. The service is fast, friendly, and attentive, which made the entire experience even better. You can tell they really take pride in what they do and are commitment in proving high quality baked goods. Whenever you're grabbing a quick treat, ordering something special, or just stoping in for a coffee, drink, or pastry. This bakery is a great local gem that I highly recommend.

I love the monarca, and Jesse's customer services made it even better! He gave us a taste of the strawberry and horchata cake, and I made sure to take both! Great ambiance, good music, clean! I really like this place!

Walk-in to delicious smells of pan dulce and hot chocolate. Door held open by staff. Picked up some new items: pumpkin spice concha and a pumpkin bread. Tried some new items: champurrado cake and a hot chocolate (abuelita style) cake. Definitely something I would consider taking to my next gathering ! Yummy and of course could not leave without picking up a hot champurrado to go (the frozen champurrado in the summer does slap) Thanks for the service Jesse!

Favorite concha's in uptown If you love moist concha's this is your spot. Their mini concha's are my best option when bringing to gatherings as they are the perfect size. Their cake slices pair so well with their cafe de olla. My favorite is their strawberry cake and love that they use a light chiffon cream on it so it is not overly sweet.

Had an exceptional experience coming here! Customer service was super friendly and helpful. The shop was very clean and tidy. Their displays were perfect and colorful! We ordered horchata lattes and a few pastries! Sooo delicious!!! This bakery and coffee shop is great! I'm so sad it's so far from where I live but if I'm in the area, I would definitely be back!

This place is ahhhmazing! Cute little cafe with delicious drinks and the yummiest pan dulce. We got a concha cup, lattes, and a variety of mini cookies. Very sweet staff and music is playing all around. Love this hidden gem in Whittier. They also have catering and party platters along with breakfast biscuits and burritos. Will definitely come back again.

    Lovely inside!

Coffee is better than Starbucks or Coffee Bean! It's all espresso and authentically savory! Butter cookies were in my belly in 1.2 seconds so no pics to share but if you're strolling around Uptown Whittier, get your cafecito and pan or galleta on! 4 stars because it felt like Antarctica inside. It was sooo cold!

I was here a few days ago and the poor employee Jesse was manning the entire store alone. He was so personable and absolutely a delight to talk to. Even with the pressure of being alone he was so patient and kind enough to explain the different options. I can't wait to come back!

I always come here for Mexican bread, cookies, flan, and coffee. The best flan! Everything tastes really fresh and good. The service is good. The ambiance is relaxed. I also appreciate the free used coffee grounds for my garden.

If you are looking for some serenity or a mini vacation for 1-3 hours, this is the place for you! The pastries and food are excellent and artistic. The cakes are stunning and most importantly, delicious. The coffee is creative. The whole place is inviting from the art, the music, the plants, and the walking location in historic uptown. A little piece/peace of Mexico in our busy US world. The service is the best part. Everyone greeted at the door. Wilfredo made my day. It's inspiring to see someone do their job well with a smile. No matter the job. They ran out of toilet paper. A very human thing to do. Instead of pretending nothing is wrong, they put a paper towel roll within easy reach. The bathroom is well used and worn but smells pleasant and is well cared for. This is a rare find - businesses who share their bathrooms generously. It's notable. Come! Enjoy this treat. You will feel indulgent.

It was my first time at this location. I ordered white conchitas online for a wedding, but when I arrived my order was incorrect and I was given colored conchitas. The staff was very helpful--Jesse made sure I got the white conchitas I needed and redid each one for me while the cashier kindly offered me a coffee. Jesse truly went above and beyond, even writing a special note and blessing the bride and groom with a treat. Thank you, Monarca! You have excellent employees.

A weekend brunch with friends brought me to Madre's Whittier, where the menu offered plenty of tempting options--and a few unexpected lessons about ordering seafood. I tried the Ensenada Omelet, loaded with shrimp, salmon, crab, and octopus. Now, I'm a seafood lover, but octopus and I aren't exactly close friends. I asked if it could be removed, but since the seafood mix is pre-made, the octopus had already RSVP'd to the party. The omelet was good, topped with a creamy sauce, but not something I'd order again. The crab appeared to be imitation crab, and while everything was prepared well, it just wasn't a standout for me. The real star? The strawberry pancakes. Delicious! Next time, I'd order those with a side of eggs and call it a win. I also sampled the chilaquiles, and now that's a dish I'd come back for. The Tiramisu Latte was another favorite--not overly sweet and packed with that classic tiramisu flavor I love. A special shoutout to our waitress, Annie, who was attentive, friendly, and made our brunch experience even better. My Verdict: Skip the Ensenada Omelet and build your brunch around the stars of the menu instead. The strawberry pancakes are the must-order item, the chilaquiles are a strong savory choice, and the Tiramisu Latte ties everything together. If you order wisely, Madre's delivers a brunch worth coming back for.

There is more outdoor seating on the covered patio than indoor seating. Both seating areas are nice. The lady who seated us was very friendly and pretty attentive and especially considering she wad handling a lot of other tables. Both the house eggs Benedict and house French toast were good. Was expecting crispy bacon on the benny considering the description, but the only difference from classic seemed to be the avocado. The benny egg and muffin were both collected well, especially the eggs they did a great job on those. Wife didn't like the flavor of the hollandaise sauce, but thought it was fine. She liked the French toast much better. You did not need syrup as the butter cream and chocolate sauce were plenty sweet on their own. Half serving is probably ok for one person, full was nice to share. The bathroom was clean, large, and single person--great for a pit stop before you head out! The mason jar waters were cool. Overall, nice local joint for a peaceful weekend or vacation breakfast. Definitely recommend giving them a try. Will be back sometime.

The idea was to enjoy my coffee while getting organized--paying bills, planning calendar events, and having the opportunity to focus without any distractions from my usual surroundings. In search of the perfect spot, I turned to Yelp, a reliable resource for uncovering hidden gems nearby. Upon stepping into the coffee shop, I was immediately greeted with warm hospitality, setting the tone for a delightful experience. The ambiance of the place was truly captivating--it was bright and welcoming, infused with an aesthetic charm that instantly put me at ease. I couldn't help but be intrigued by the design elements throughout the shop, which added an inviting touch to its overall atmosphere. Before I settled in, I asked the staff if I could snap a few photos to capture the essence of this delightful space. They graciously welcomed my request, and I was shown to my table, which, quite uniquely, was designated by a number--a small detail that I found charming. As I browsed the menu, I encountered a small conundrum: I wasn't entirely sure what to order. I wanted to break the mold and try something out of the ordinary. My curiosity was piqued by their exclusive offering of Café de la Olla--a traditional hot drink that piqued my interest right away. I ultimately settled on a hearty plate that included rice, beans, and enticing potato tostones, accompanied by two beautifully cooked sunny-side-up eggs. As I waited for my order, I noticed the café was filled with the sweet sounds of old-school music from the '60s and '70s, which only enhanced the cozy ambiance while I sipped my drink. Now, let's talk about the food! I must say, I rated the café itself a solid 4 out of 5 for its overall charm, while the rice earned a respectable 4 out of 5. The beans were rich in flavor and received a fair 3.9 out of 5. The potato tostones, delicately bathed in a savory red sauce, stood out with an impressive score of 4.3 out of 5--these are a must-try if you visit! And as for the sunny-side-up eggs, they were good, but hey, eggs are eggs, right? Overall, the entire experience was quite enjoyable, from the delightful food to the warm atmosphere. A special shout-out goes to Ana, whose exceptional customer service made my visit even more memorable. The combination of fantastic service, inviting aesthetics, and satisfying food truly made for a perfect morning retreat. I can't recommend this spot enough for anyone looking for a relaxing place to unwind and focus on what matters.

I got excited as we walked in because of how cool the vibe was inside the restaurant! Modern and clean aesthetic ... such a surprise! I had already looked at the menu the night before, so I made some suggestions for our party of four adults and kiddo. Our server brought fresh sourdough rolls with seasoned butter. Solid start. We then ordered the stuffed 'shrooms and proscuitto-arugula pizza as starters. Both were very excellent, and was tell-tale of what we were about to experience with our entrees. Entrees ordered were the rigatoni with vodka sauce, the pappardelle with shortrib (two servings but really enough food for at least four ppl!) and the chicken Parmesan salad. Everything was impressive, especially the pappardelle dish. With the beurre blanc and creamy Alfredo sauce with two huge pieces of short rib that were fork tender, it was the star of the evening. This dish is made table-side to ensure that it's eaten immediately. The portions were enough for four ppl, and the sauce is just absolutely decadent. Service was attentive and prompt.
