I always get the off the grill plate. My choice of fish is always Basa. For the seasoning you can get lemon pepper or Cajun. And it automatically comes with salad and rice with butter and choice of dressing. Oh and they include a few triangles of pita bread. The service is always amazing. They do get sometimes busy and it's sometimes a 1 woman show taking the orders and giving the orders but she's a doll! There's probably at least 3 TVs playing sports. Go Dodgers! I came here the other day and liked that they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a few TVs inside if you want to catch a game while you eat. The menu has a good variety of food and drinks, so there are plenty of options to choose from. Unfortunately, I wasn't too impressed with the food. It felt like it was missing something. I tried adding lemon, their house sauces, and hot sauce, but the fish and calamari still tasted pretty bland. I ordered the fish tacos and the fried calamari strips, and neither had much flavor. The portions were also on the smaller side, so I didn't feel like the price matched the amount or quality of the food. I'd have to give it a 6/10 at best. Giving it 2 stars as the food is good but the customer service has declined drastically. It is very sad as we have been coming to this restaurant since it opened may moons ago. Today was the second time we visited and were not even acknowledged when we arrived. The first time we waited for a little under 10 minutes without even a hello. We left! Today, i went back and asked for the wait time after having waited for 3 min without acknowledgment so I asked on the side and i got an ambiguous answer. When i asked for clarification ... nothing. I left. I am not sure that we will go back any time soon considering the myriad of alternatives around the area. The chipotle chile and ceviche crème sauce were so yummy and complimentary with the tacos. I don't think there's anything you can order wrong on this menu. Everything is delicious! Came back on 4/19 because we were already craving the shrimp tacos after our last visit and the food definitely still holds up. The honey spice shrimp tacos were just as good and we tried the ceviche for the first time which was pretty good too. Unfortunately the service this time was a completely different experience. We had to go inside to ask for refills, waited on pretty much everything and it honestly felt like we were more of an inconvenience than customers. My friend and I made the mistake of going tonight to this restaurant for the second time. We shall not make that mistake again. The first time was unpleasant because it took so long to receive our food and the drunks and small children around us made it hard to carry on a conversation because they were so loud. The food was good, however. This time it took nearly an hour to get our food. Unlike the first time, the server didn't come to us repeatedly to apologize for the delay, nor did she offer us any snacks or beverages during the wait. It was uncomfortably cold in the restaurant. We finally decided just as our food was about to be served to take it to go so that we could thaw out in my companion' nearby apartment. There I discovered that they had put feta cheese on my salad although I had very clearly told them to leave it off and that my fish was overly salty despite my having asked for the salt to be minimal. My companion commented that it was one of the worst experiences she had ever had in a restaurant. This is not a place where you want to waste your time and money. read more

An extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. Off The Hook. As you walk in I got greeted by this gentleman. His name was Justin. Really professional and always had a smile on his face. He recommended the Fried Combo Wrap with avocado. It was devine. Sometimes you forget about a meal you once had and I must say this was one of them. As I took my first bite I was transported into the time when my mother was struggling trying to make ends meet and made me a home made wrap with the little ingredients she had. A tortilla, fried shrimp and Fish. The food tasted home made. That's all I have to say. My compliments to the chef. The establishment gives this great ambience. Sporty, professional, and clean. The service was not just service. It was the definition of hospitality. Big shoutout to Justin for not only recommending a great dish but also for the attention to detail. Thank you Not everyone can become a great artist but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now working at Off The Hook, which is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the best seafood place in Whittier. Looking for a quick dinner while in the area and came across this gem in downtown Whittier for fresh and indulgent seafood. Ordered the fried fish sandwich, which had the perfect soft brioche bun to hold a sizable and cajun spiced piece of perfectly fried fish and cole slaw, the ceviche sampler, and salmon plate, and it was far and away better than the more well-known chain fish restaurants that most of us are aware of, and it has that Mexican-Baja inspiration that makes it even more special. The ceviche trio lacked flavor, and the lobster bisque tasted like straight butter with no real lobster flavor and no chunks of lobster. The shrimp and potato taco was disappointing too. Their potatoes were bland, and the shrimp-to-potato ratio was way off. I also ordered the lobster taco, but it wasn't actually lobster; it appeared to be crawfish, and there was very little meat in the taco. To say this place is "off the hook" would be misleading. Sadly, it's not somewhere I would return to, especially with so many better dining options nearby. read more
