We almost didn't make it through the front door, but I'm glad we did. When we first pulled up, the restaurant honestly looked closed. It was dark, empty, and not very welcoming from the outside. My wife and son were ready to go somewhere else, but I was determined to find some good ceviche and try Peruvian food. We walked a little farther and found another door with an "OPEN" sign, went inside, and sure enough--they were open. The food ended up being the reason I'm glad we stayed. I ordered the fish ceviche ($20.95), and it was really, really good. The fish tasted fresh and high quality, with nice-sized chunks and plenty of lime--which I personally love. The onions were great, and the potato on the side was surprisingly good. I actually wish they had given me a little more of it. The crunchy Peruvian corn was a nice addition, and even the little pieces of plantain were good, and I'm normally not a plantain person. My wife had the shrimp ceviche ($22.95). The shrimp were whole and tasted fresh, and the pickled onions were really good. It was definitely very lime-forward. She felt it could have used another ingredient or two, maybe something like cucumber, although that may just be because she's more accustomed to Mexican-style ceviche. For the price, she also expected a little more on the plate, but overall she thought it was very good. Our son had a chicken plate with a thin, well-seasoned chicken cutlet, egg, fries and white rice. He loved it and gave it a 10/10. Even the complimentary toasted bread was excellent--warm enough that we finished the whole basket. The biggest thing holding this place back is the service and overall atmosphere. The lady helping us was very nice, but the experience just felt a little strange and slow. We were literally the only people dining in the restaurant, aside from someone who came in to pick up an order, and it still took around 40 minutes to receive our food. With a toddler, that's a long time to wait. We also ordered Modelos with lime and salted rims. Mine was fine, but my wife's beer was warm and she ended up asking for ice. That said, it looks like a small, possibly family-run operation with only a few people working, and the food definitely tasted freshly prepared. So I can appreciate that good ceviche isn't necessarily coming out of the kitchen in five minutes. Overall, we WILL be back because the food was genuinely good. I just think they could have something really special here if they improved the service, made the restaurant look more obviously open and welcoming from outside, improve the vibe and tightened up the wait times. Fix those things and this could be a really nice little hidden gem in Uptown. The ceviche alone is worth coming back for. read more

(If I could give 6 stars, I absolutely would!) Bailey Peruvian Cuisine in Uptown Whittier is hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had in a very long time. From the moment the food hit the table, you could tell everything was prepared with fresh ingredients and genuine care. Every bite tasted authentic, flavorful, and made with love. I've been searching for true Peruvian cuisine for quite some time, and I'm beyond grateful that Tyn at Onyx Nail Lounge recommended this hidden gem. The ceviche was incredibly fresh, the flavors were vibrant, and every dish brought back that comforting feeling of homemade food. It's rare to find a place that combines quality, authenticity, and consistency so well, but Bailey Peruvian Cuisine does exactly that. The portions are generous, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the service makes you feel like family. A huge thank you to Tyn from Onyx Nail Lounge for pointing me in the right direction. If you're looking for amazing nails with an unrushed experience, definitely check him out too you'll thank me later! Great recommendations come from great people. As for Bailey Peruvian Cuisine, all I can say is WOW. This place deserves all the support. Ecstatic to stumble upon an authentic sit-down Peruvian restaurant in downtown Whittier with amazing food. We've only been once so far, but the staff was very friendly and the food was amazing with exactly what I'd expect for a Peruvian saltado and ceviche. Chaufa and tallarin verde came in big plates, enough for family of 4! It's made well, and very tasty!

Authentic and flavorful, Bailey's has become my go to place when I have company coming over and I need a hearty and delicious meal to serve. Recently, I have surprise visitors and had nothing of substance to serve. I called Bailey's and ordered (4) orders of their famous Lomo Saltado. In 30 min the orders were ready for pick up. Once I placed them in my dinner plates, it looked as if I cooked the Lomo Saltado myself! The dinner not only looked appetizing, but it filled my guests tummies and allowed them to experience authentic Peruvian food. Reasonable prices will add to your pleasure. Street parking is available or around the corner in the public parking lot on Bright Ave. Enjoy your visit! read more

On our second visit did not disappoint. The food was great! I ordered chaufa de carne, a fried rice plate suitable fir 3 people, and my husband ordered Trio marino, that was composed of fried tiny octopus and calamari that was covered in a crispy batter; also ceviche and the third seemed to me like paella. In my opinion was great for 2 because of the chaufa. We shared the food. We also liked the drinks. My husband said that the beer was excellent. The food is fresh, but takes a while. The service was okay. We had to ask for more napkins, then a spoon. The rice plate didn't have a serving spoon because it was meant to be for one person, and the plates to share the food were too small. But the food was so tasty we didn't mind it. (If they read this review, they will make the changes) We figured it out. The ambiance is peaceful and easy to have a conversation. Whittier has plenty of public parking, but people need to be willing to walk. Street parking is not impossible, but a bit difficult. read more

My wife and I came to Whittier awhile back for lunch and came across Baileys when looking for food in the area. We are fans if Lomo Saltado and Peruvian food and managed to find a parking spot on the curb right across the street. The building itself was quite run down on the outside and at first glance I was unsure if they were even open. Upon glance into the front door a little further down we saw that they were and made our way inside. The inside was quaint and had quite a minimalistic type decor to it. We were quickly taken to a table for two and then we sat, and sat and sat some more waiting to order. I would understand if the place was busy but we were there and only one other table of 2 was present. After waiting almost 10+ minutes for help, we finally had ordered and began the second period of waiting for the food. Luckily for us the food came out a bit quicker and the portions were quite large. Thankfully the flavor was on point, albeit a bit too salty and bot of us seemed to enjoy the food and even had a little bit more to take home to finish later. I can say if the service was a bit quicker and friendlier this review would be higher but for the food alone this was a solid choice and a great Peruvian option. I would come back again and see if a 2nd visit would be a bit better in the service department. If you like Peruvian cuisine then check it out if you are in the Uptown Whittier area. read more

So first for the bad and why they did not get 5 Stars. Why give someone a menu with no prices. That is just ridicules. Our waitress told us they had just raised their prices [who hasn't]. So they give me a beautiful laminated menu with no prices. If you don't want to reprint prices when prices go up again, then print paper menus. My wife and I are sharing a plate and so we are going to get a few side dishes but without prices, we really don't know how much we are going to add to our meal. I feel that was just not well planned. They did find an old menu but at least it gave us a reference. They did tell us that the prices had gone up. Now the food. Well damn it's just really really good. What we decided to order [and share] was the Saltado Especial with chicken, ribeye and shrimp. It's on a bed of rice and French fries. It had plenty of grilled red onions and some grilled tomatoes. That was our main dish but we also had ordered the Papa la Huancaina which was amazing and was a huge portion. This is one of my favorite Peruvian dishes. The close second is the Green Sauce, I guess I should call it by its real name Aji Verde sauce. Bailey's is not too spicey. My mom is Costa Rican so we grew up on Platanos fritos or fried plantains and they were so delicious as well. Our waitress brought out some bread and butter. Sharing the one plate and the two sides, we took some home for later. That is mine, not to share :) The place is nicely decorated and has two sections that were open. It looks like they had a broken glass door and a broken glass plate that were boarded up. Hope they get that fixed soon. Our waitress was super nice and helpful. It started a little awkward when I asked about prices and she said she could tell me. "Really" I responded before she went to get an old menu with outdated prices. read more

I have eaten saltados at so many places and this one is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. These folks take this dish seriously giving the protein of your choice a terrific sear at high heat. Super delicious. Odd that there are no prices on the menu but most of the saltados run you around $18-19. Portions are humongous...but trust me you will not want to share. Papa a la Huancaína was so moist and just perfect. And that green sauce. Just wow! read more

1st time coming to Baileys. Food was good except very small table for 4. We also asked for the Tallarin Verde con carne and they brought us regular Tallarin with small pieces of beef was a little disappointed because the gal didn't speak Spanish so I am pretty sure she got our order wrong... I specifically asked for Tallarin Verde when she brought it out i informed he i if she could please bring what we ordered and she said oh I can't exchange it. Then we asked for serving utensils and she brought us huge soup spoons and tongs! Just weird. The food was good but I disliked the service.... read more

Food and service were very good. They have a large selection of food and drinks. I would go back.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed this place a lot!!! I love Peruvian food. He offered to take me to lunch and I chose this place, since I've never tried it and it's close to my house. The aji sauce was placed on our table for us to enjoy as much as we wanted. Most places give you little sides of it, and you always want more!! But you get charged, lol. This place was a large portion for you to use as you please. It was abundant and also delicious. You can tell it's made fresh. I could see the shreds of Parmesan. The flavors were nicely balanced. It paired perfectly with the warm, toasted bread that was brought to us. We shared a ceviche mixto plate. The tiger's milk was amazing. The fish was perfect. The octopus, calamari and shrimp were nice. I ordered the tallarín saltado with beef. Guau! The sauce in the pasta was addicting. My boyfriend loved it. I loved the tomatoes and red onion in the dish. The pasta was perfectly cooked as well. My boyfriend ordered the Plato de pobres (I think it's called). It's ironic bc that was one of the more expensive dishes, lol. His steak was tender and flavorful. The platanos were yummy!! He loves his rice mixed with some aji. Yes, we really liked it!! Recommend totally. read more

First off I'm peruvian so I came her with my mom on a weekend afternoon. It's tucked away on the side of a street that can be easily missed so make sure to look for it if your going. Vibe: it's cool. They have salsa playing so that I did like. They have peruvian rugs and peruvian wall hangings which I did like. The place is half red and white like the flag. One thing I will say it was a little warm in there for a sunny day. Service: the waitress was very nice and super attentive and explained the whole menu well. Tho I will say the food is fresh cooked because we didn't get our food till about 40 mins after ordering. Food: the chica morada was soooo good, highly recommend especially on these warm days. I ordered the special lomo and it lacked in flavor some. I think I should've ordered something else. My mom said the fish which was bass was good though. Overall: I might go back here but I feel there is other peruvian places with tastier food. read more

After a long day, I was in the mood for some Peruvian food. And after doing a Yelp search, I decided to try Baileys. I had my dog with me I decided to order take out. I ordered the calamari and the saltado de pollo. I placed a take out order over the phone. They let me know it would be about 20-25 min till my order was ready. I was only 10 min away so that gave me enough time to get there and find parking. There is street parking available all along Bailey. It's a small storefront but when I got there almost all the tables were full. And this was around 3pm so I took it as a good sign that they have a good customer base. Even after my 20 min drive home, the calamari was crispy and delicious. I'm a fan of calamari and the topping that is served with Peruvian calamari is what makes it and this topping is refreshing and tangy. The chicken in the saltado de pollo was a bit over cooked but when eaten with everything it was good. I definitely want to come back again. read more

Food is yummy! Service is great. They are attentive. Ambiance is wonderful. I recommend others to try this place.

This place is a switch up, one day the food is good and the next it looks like it's been sitting for someone to order it for 2 days. The first day we ordered the lomo saltado, it was excellent, then a week later the meat was old , stringy and cheap, same with the chicken in the fried rice. We definitely won't be going back , due to the lack of consistency. I would find somewhere else to go. read more

I've had Bailey's a few times but this was the first time I dine-in. The space is quaint, but they play great music. I honestly thought they got a hold of one of my bachata playlists! A friend and I came for for a late lunch. We were pleasantly greeted and seated. The menu is not overwhelming but has a solid list of Peruvian standards. Prices are on the high side but (spoiler alert) they deliver on the quality so I felt it was worth it. I ordered lomo saltado and an Inca Kola. A ho-hum basket of bread with aji sauce was delivered for us to snack on while we waited (which wasn't long). My lomo saltado was excellent. The ratio of beef, tomato, onion, and fries was perfect, not too much or not to few of any single ingredient. The beef was flavorful and very tender. The tomato slices had good flavor too which is always a nice surprise. Definitely one of the better lomo saltado plates I've had outside of Peru. Was it worth the trip to Uptown Whittier? Yes, yes it was. 4.5 stars rounded up. read more

**Title: A Salty Surprise** Rating: If you're someone who craves salt like it's going out of style, this dish might be right up your alley. However, for most, the overwhelming saltiness of the food was difficult to overlook. The seasoning seemed to have gone from a flavorful accent to the main event, leaving little room for the other flavors to shine. Initially, the dish looked promising with its appealing presentation. The ingredients were fresh, and the aroma was enticing. But after the first bite, the saltiness took center stage and didn't let go. Each subsequent bite only intensified the sensation, overpowering the natural tastes of the ingredients. It's a shame because you can tell there was potential here. The textures were spot on, and the cooking technique was otherwise solid. Unfortunately, the seasoning imbalance made it hard to enjoy the meal fully. In conclusion, if you're a fan of incredibly salty food, you might find this dish to your liking. For everyone else, proceed with caution--and perhaps a large glass of water. Also god forbid you ask for extra sauce , you will get a dirty look and charge you. read more

I recently ordered from Baileys Peruvian Cuisine and had a nicely positive experience! I just wanted to mention a couple of minor issues: when I called to place my order the lady who answered didn't speak Spanish which made it a bit difficult since the dishes were named in Spanish. However we managed to complete the order without any major issues. Then, parking was a bit complicated due to the on street parking arrangement. Fortunately, the dishes we ordered were all delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Overall, we liked it so much that we've already placed another order but this time for delivery! read more

I've been looking for a good Peruvian place near the Whittier Norwalk area, and I think I've found it. This was my first time at Baileys Peruvian Cuisine and I was not disappointed. I ordered arguably the most famous traditional Peruvian dish, Lomo Saltado. I have to say, it was definitely one of the better Lomo Saltado's that I've had. The Lomo Saltado came with white rice (you can pick alternative), ribeye steak, grilled tomatoes, onions, and fries. The fries were made fresh in-house. The meat was of better quality than other Peruvian restaurant I've eaten at. I would've like my steak a little more rare, as it was cooked almost well. But even with it cooked almost well, the meat was still slightly tender. I also ordered a side of Platanos Fritos (fries plantains) and they were spot on. Slightly crispy on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside. The service was also friendly and pleasant. I'll definitely return here when I'm in the mood for Peruvian. read more

Cute restaurant well lit but in a not so well lit location. The decor was simple but clean and inviting. The menus were interesting, there were no prices. As a customer, I dislike the experience of not having prices on the menu for various reasons, however, the server was kind enough to explain why and gave us prices on the dishes we inquired about. #foodieonabudget The food was delicious. We ordered the papa la huancaina and they were delicious, the only con, wish we had more potatoes for that extra (yummy) sauce. I ordered the pescado a lot macho. It was excellent, the taste and tenderness of the seafood was perfect. If I had a wish, wish it had scallops. My wife ordered the dish with chicken and beef. The taste and beef was great but the chicken, not so great. They were chicken thighs that were fried first before stir fried. The chicken was a bit dry and hard. Everything was excellent except for the chicken. read more
