Went to Higo for lunch for the 1st time. We ordered the mixed Tempura. It was good. Batter was light, shrimp & veggies were fresh. Next we ordered the 4 in 1 roll. it was mediocre. Way too much sauce on the roll samples. We also had the Tiradito sushi sampler. The sushi was drowned in sauce as well. I ordered a yellowtail sushi by itself no sauce, and it was not good. Left a fish taste on the last bite. The service was good. If you are looking for true Japanese sushi, this is not the place. If you like sushi masked in sauce, then this is for you. Ambiance is okay. I had heard good things about this place, and since it's not far from where I go for acupuncture, I decided to give it a try a couple of times. Unfortunately, I still can't say I really like it. The first time, I ordered the agedashi tofu, one of my favorite dish of all times! but it was a disappointment. For me, it just wasn't made the right way. I didn't have an issue with their fish offerings, but the biggest problem is the rice. The quality is poor, and in the chirashi bowl it was especially noticeable. The rice was clumped together, almost like it wasn't handled properly after cooking. I couldn't even finish the bottom portion. Service has been friendly ,I also think this place is more toward people coming for rolls and drinks rather than traditional dishes. In that case, another downside is the noise level inside. We had been going to their Rowland Heights location and forgot how much more this location offers. Lomo Saltado has tender beef with freshly cooked fries complimented with onions and tomatoes-it all works. The Peruvian sushi roll is smothered in cream with a lemony flavor that was perfect with the hot weather. The yellow tail jalapeño has the potential to compete with Nobu, it just has to be thinly slice and marinate the peppers in the sauce as well. Best Toro I've ever tasted!! This plate has Toro cooked in different styles. Some are raw and 2 are cooked/ seared. It melts in your mouth. You can order by individual pieces. Higo let me down on the promised time for the food. They told me 15 to 20 minutes, and I told them time was of the essence (as I was picking up açaí bowls as well). It took 40 minutes, the açaí melted, everyone is unhappy w me, it just sucked. Don't make agreements you can't keep! I even said 'as long as it isn't half an hour,' and it was more than that. Just say it might be that long or whatever it is if that is the case, and the client can go elsewhere this time, and that is fine. Don't just tell people what they want to hear then not deliver as promised. At 30 minutes I said I just wanted to cancel, and they kept saying 'it's almost ready,' but in fact took 10 more minutes.
