Nice, small sushi restaurant in a small strip mall with limited parking. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable, but it excels at providing great customer service. My wife and friends had several rolls, and all were very well-made, tasty, and fresh. read more

A friend took us here for a late lunch and I must say I am very impressed with this place! The quality of fish and freshness is superb- I've eaten a lot of raw fish and let's say this is one of the freshest I've had! We had a slew of nigiri's and sashimis from the daily special menu but I would say my favorites were probably the waygu, king salmon, black snapper and toro. The restaurant itself is not huge with about a dozen tables and is located in a strip mall where you would not expect to find such a high caliber of food. The owner of the restaurant is also the chef I believe. He greeted us warmly when we entered and conversed with us throughout our dining experience. I would highly recommend and definitely plan to come back. read more

Word cannot describe how amazing my experience was here. My boyfriend and I ordered a selection of different items and each were incredibly tasty and fresh! Our favorite dishes were the seared Toro with spinach and the Maya Roll. Service added to the amazing food experience and our server Kevin was extremely helpful and friendly. The ambiance and surround was clean and pleasant to further enhance our fine-dining experience. If you are a seafood or Sushi lover, you NEED to Try Dakara Sushi!!. read more

Another amazing visit to Dakara! Today I of course had to have oysters in a spoon. The tangy, savory salty sauce is soooo refreshing and addicting. I always have to order the Ankimo sushi. It's one of my favorite, it's also savory, a little tart with creamy texture. I had the black snapper, which is another go-to. I love the ponzu/salty basted on top. I had the tuna with Japanese salsa on top and the soy butter albacore for the first time. I have my favorites that I reorder but I try to make sure I order something new to try with each visit. The tuna was so tender and fresh. The lemony salsa on top was vibrant and flavorful. I asked for a spoon so I could scoop every drop. The albacore was also very tender and the soy butter was creamy and so light. It didn't leave like a buttery or oily residual on the palate. Everything is always delicious. Once again, I got to making small talk with another patron at the bar counter and made some delightful conversation. It's always a great time here! read more

Fresh, delicious sushi! Great family owned business and wonderful service. Cut rolls 10/10! Also love the fresh sushi/sashimi. Definitely best sushi in the area. read more

I recently came here for dinner. It's a small place with lots of charm. The food is good and fresh. We ordered several rolls, tempura and a collar. The tempura had a good variety and the batter was light and crispy. All the rolls were good. My only thing was that a lot of their rolls have shrimp. My mom is allergic to shrimp so it was hard finding several rolls that didn't have shrimp. We got a collar too. Everything was delicious. Because it's a small place, they only had one person taking orders, one person helping with bussing and then two staff in the kitchen. They are attentive but can be a little slow at times. I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Great sushi! My friends and I order take out all the time and everyone loves it! Especially their baked crab rolls, my son loves them.

I went again for my birthday with my family, and the service was great. The food was good and it was very busy. Good times.

The sushi is excellent. Always a friendly atmosphere from customers, servers and owners cannot be beat

Dakara isn't just the best sushi in Whittier. It's the best RESTAUARANT in Whittier. It's run by great people, with real ties to the community, serving up some of the most delicious, wonderfully textured, and deliberately designed dishes around. They have the BALLS and the utmost confidence in their product to tell you not to use any other sauce on their perfectly dressed artisan nigiri, and if you trust them, you'll be treated to some of the best bites of food in a 20 mile radius. Thank God - they actually understand good sushi and have a wonderfully balanced, craveable sushi rice. Not too sweet, still retains a wonderful, individual-kernel-perceivable texture, and has the kind of flavor that requires you to put another bite of it into your mouth. Their spicy tuna is undoubtedly the best textured and most flavorful spicy tuna I've ever had anywhere. Get their grilled mackerel and the yellowtail collar and treat yourself to some of the juiciest, most unctuous fish around and pair it with the perfect pairing of Japanese steamed rice. I can't gush about this place enough. Get the fried octopus. Get the negi toro sushi. Get the toro nigiri. Get the snow crab nigiri. Get the black snapper nigiri. Get the spicy edamame. Get the blistered shishito peppers. Get their refreshing house salad. Get the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno. Get the popcorn shrimp. Order like $100 worth of food per head and stuff yourself silly on the best food in Whittier and make sure that this places stays open for the good of the community. read more

The food was delicious and the presentation was very eye appealing. The workers are friendly and attentive.

Very friendly little restaurant. I had the Mixed Sushi, 8 pcs Nigirli (tuna, yellowtail, salmon, albacore, shrimp, squid, octopus and egg) and 8pcs California roll. This came with miso soup, salad and rice. I enjoyed every bite, great California roll and yummy selection of dish. My wife and daughter had the Mixed Chicken Teriyaki & Mixed Tempura which came with miso soup, salad and rice. Teriyaki was very tasty and tempura had a perfect batter and the miso soup had great favor. The little place should be on your list to visit. read more

Food is wonderful and Jason is the best sushi chef around. Highly recommended. 5 stars all the way and will definitely come back.

This is the cutest little neighborhood spot! We know this place has been around for a long time, but since moving here in July, we were excited to see it reopen and are happy to give them our business. I'd definitely say their dinner options are a step up from the usual takeout places nearby. I really enjoyed dining in--some items, like the tuna tostada, seem better suited for enjoying on-site rather than for takeout. The quality of the fish is excellent, and I appreciate that they keep the menu concise, which ensures freshness. Anything brought in extra is featured on the specials board, which is a nice touch. The staff was incredibly lovely, and we're really happy to have this gem in the neighborhood. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try! read more

Excellent place for sushi. Hole in the wall in Whittier area. We are lucky to live 5 min away. Staff and friendly and attentive. I believe the chef owns the business. We generally order shrimp dumplings, chili edamame, rainbow role, snow crab, king crab (when they have it), ceviche, eel, and tea. Food is delish. We only have sushi from 2 places in LA/OC. This is one of them. The other is in Gardena. Food always on point and fresh! A little pricey, but good quality. Great job to the staff who get extremely busy during dinner. read more

I don't even know how to start this review...I have driven to this place 3 times from Montebello and it has NEVER been open. Different days of the week, different times, for different occasions and levels of hunger. Today, when I decided to write the review, was a day when I only had breakfast and was really looking forward to sushi. However, I was once again greeted by that white paper sign telling me they're closed today and giving me the heads up that they'll also be closed on Sunday. I guess it's just not meant to be. I refuse to continue playing this game with you. If you're reading this and decide you want to check it out, I hope they're open. read more
