Chicken teriyaki and tempura vegetables and shrimp
    John E.

Such a great place. Service was amazing everyone worked together. Such a cute little place. Food was so good. Have lived in Whittier over 40 years and never visited this place. Don't know why. Wish we would've came before. So impressed with the food the ambience the service and the owner was so cute. She came around to each table to see if we were enjoying our food. We had the teriyaki chicken and tempura. So delicious. We will definitely be back. You will not be disappointed.

Just happen o stumble upon this place. Friendly staff and very attentive to my needs. Offering everything on the menu. Still had a feeling of being in the past. The food was good, not great. I wasn't too impressed. Ordered a few things but nothing to get excited about.

Start you off with miso soup and cucumbers both so good!

Food was delicious. Reasonably priced. Great service. My husband and I came here for date night on a Wednesday evening. We shared the chicken and beef dinner plate which came with the perfect amount, if not more. The shared dinner plate was family style and included rice for everyone, tempura, salad and fruit. I also ordered a side of the curry sample because I wanted to try the flavor and it was better than anticipated. The cherry on top was the friendly and very attentive staff. Definitely come here again!

Hidden little gem in Whittier. The service is prime. Every time I come here I'm greeted by the sweetest little grandma. All the servers and employees are so nice. Inside the place is so clean and well maintained. Anything you order here is bound to be delicious, freshly made, and well served. They start you with some miso soup and cucumbers. My favorite is the katsu chicken and the short ribs. Today, went for the chicken katsu and chicken teriyaki combo. The teriyaki sauce is so good, the katsu perfectly crispy and the beef is so tender. Can't go wrong with anything, here!

Affordable but the food was really great! The owner, an old gracious lady, entertains all guests dining in her quaint japanese restaurant.

This is a true hidden gem!!! It's going on its 45th anniversary this August 2024 and still thriving. The owner is 87 years old and super sweet. She's still there working and really knows her customers. Service and food is on point. The ambiance is nice and cozy. I will definitely be back to try other things. Visit this establishment if you have an opportunity.

I got the Number 14 Set Tempura and Sashimi with Beef plate

This place reminds me of little old school Showa era izakaya's my wife and I went to in Japan. It's so homey and feels like some of the converted living room restaurants my wife and I ate at while in Japan. It's a little place you and your family can hang out with the owner! The craziest part is I have walked by this place hundreds of times and not noticed until tonight. My wife and I met the 89 year old Japanese owner who arrived in the US in 1972 and had been in business for over 45 years. An institution in the city of Whittier at this point. She was kind and told us about enjoying meeting and entertaining people, and that's why she started her restaurant. When our food arrived it's exactly how it was in Japan. Simple ingredients, rich in flavor, and clearly made with high quality ingredients. I loved the Green Tea Soda and ordered the Tempura with Beef and Sashimi, which melted in my mouth! Every order came with a Sunomono (Japanese cucumber salad), Miso soup, Salad, Rice and then your main courses arrived. My wife and I also got the fried tofu which we absolutely loved! This was the 1st time I've been here and it felt like home. I'm going to go back, and I really want this place to be open for years to come!

Excellent food and service. The place feels like home and our 12 year old daughter really likes it. Grandma is the best hostess.

Making a reservation through OpenTable was quick and easy, which set the tone for a smooth evening from the start. When we arrived, we were welcomed by warm, moody lighting and a friendly host who seated us right away. Our server, Rashad, introduced himself and helped us choose drinks based on our preferences, which we really appreciated. We started with the carpaccio platter and the black crispy rice--both were excellent and definitely worth ordering. We also shared three signature rolls, and every one of them was delicious. Throughout the evening, Rashad was attentive and personable, making thoughtful recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed. The entire staff contributed to the experience--everyone who delivered our dishes was friendly, and a special shoutout to the busser who promptly cleared empty plates so our table never felt crowded. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. You can truly tell the staff works as a team to create a memorable experience for their guests. I highly recommend it for a special dinner date with friends or your significant other.

We pushed back a bit and they sat us within 20 minutes or so. This isn't a cheap meal, but it is like an elevated sushi experience. The food was really good! We tried the crispy Brussels sprouts(5/5), spicy garlic edamame(SPICY but 5/5) , Denver carpaccio with hot stone(5/5), sashimi pizza(3.5/5), Kyoto dragon roll(4/5), seafood pasta(5/5), tuna crispy rice (5/5), and the rock and roll roll (5/5). The veggies were like the best I've ever had. The Denver carpaccio was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Kyoto dragon roll was good but wish it had more eel/more filling. The rock and roll roll was really tasty. Sushi pizza was interesting but not bad. The mixed berry ice cream they gave for free for my friends birthday was really good too. The drinks were good but strong. There was quite a wait in between our first course of veggies and the rest of our food, but it was worth the wait. The food was really good overall! The staff were friendly and the restaurant is beautiful. I would come back but probably at a less busy time.
