My family and I have been loyal customers of Joy Sushi at The Whitwood for many years. We come because my daughter loves the sushi, and I have always been kindly allowed to bring in outside food for myself. This has never been an issue before. Today, Chef Jason loudly called me out from across the restaurant about my outside food instead of speaking to me privately. It was embarrassing and happened in front of my family, friends, and other guests. I also noticed him speaking harshly to the waitresses beforehand, which was disappointing to witness. As a business owner and a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, I understand that businesses have policies. However, the way those policies are communicated matters. A respectful, private conversation would have been appropriate. Publicly embarrassing a loyal customer is not. Thankfully, the waitresses continue to provide excellent service, but this experience left a very negative impression and reflects poorly on the business. read more

Most joyful sushi in Whittier! Tiffany, Nickie, and Monet are the most wonderful hostesses and servers. They pay attention to details and even when they are having a busy evening, consistently care about their customers and work together to make sure all items are delivered quickly and with the best of care! Chef Jason is great! Very funny and adds to the warmth and authentic atmosphere. If you hate the Dodgers, don't come here lol. It's a Dodger Mecca on game nights! read more

The sushi is so watery and the guy named Jason is so rude and needs to leave I found hairs in my sushi before and the place is so unsanitary. Joy Sushi - Yum yum Arigato Jason!... - Japanese Near Me - Whittier, California

I found this place and let me tell you it's a hidden gem. I was at work and didn't know what to eat for lunch. Their happy hour caught my attention when I saw them on yelp, and I wanted to try this place out. The food was 10/10. The service was fairly quickly as I came during lunch time. I was seated right away, and since I was looking at the menu I already knew what I wanted! I got the California crunch roll 4pcs & the happy hour crunch roll. Can't forget my strawberry lemonade. The place has a very modern style with the wood and red lanterns. Reminds me of a classic Japanese restaurant. The paintings on the wall were absolutely beautiful. I will definitely come again. read more

We went in on a random week night. We were quickly greeted and seated which was a plus. This was our first time eating here, so we thumbed through their menu and chose a few items to sample. The interior was clean and there was quite a bit of seating for being such a small space. We also ordered Thai iced tea, which was sad and disappointing. The flavor was odd, maybe old? The food started coming out and it looked really good. Sadly, the food was just overall not great. Everything was fresh, but lacked flavor and their oil gave everything a weird almost rancid flavor. The entire meal was disappointing, except for the spicy tuna. That was the only thing that was actually really good. The waitress was extremely attentive, and cleared things quickly as we finished. So definitely 5 star for service and the speed in which we were served, but we came to eat and the food left a lot to be desired. The egg rolls were also a weird mushy gummy texture, combined with the old oil taste, I couldn't even get past one bite. I probably wouldn't choose to come here again, but if someone else wanted to dine here I might come and just grab a sushi roll since that was the only thing we ordered that was actually good. read more

I got super bad food poisoning from this place, purchased sushi yesterday and all of last night I was throwing up and had a whole bunch other things happen, I really hope you guys pay attention to the expiration of your food or practice sanitation because the pain my body went through was not okay. I don't know why I was so excited to order sushi and I came out here to this area for something important and I decided to stop at this little sushi spot for to go sushi. I phone ordered which was pretty nice because I didn't have to wait when I came in. It was already ready, but drove to my destination and started eating it, and there was something about it that I can't explain more like a watery consistency where the roles kept falling apart, and it just wasn't good. I ordered two rolls one crunchy and one California roll and to be honest with you definitely was not what I was expecting. Craving was not satisfied. read more

Great food and service. Never disappointed with this place. Good location and great end of weekend spot.

I don't think I would come back. The sushi chef "Jason" is so rude! On their menu it says to inform your server for any allergies before you order, however when we did, the server went ro talk to the sushi chef "Jason" and very rude he said they don't care he is not going to make any accommodations or wash his only knife that he uses for someone that has an allergy, he said we can just leave or take what they give us. Very very rude. Just ruined the dinner moment. So it looks like they prefer to take a risk of a customer getting sick or end up in the hospital. Also in another note, Be aware, they charge tip out of the taxes. read more

I've come here twice in the last two weeks with my husband and our baby both times the food has been absolutely delicious. It is fast and taste fresh. The service is friendly. I have gotten the firecracker roll, which is very good but very spicy and the tempura spicy tuna roll. The beef gyoza us are also some of the best gyoza I have ever had and I am from Seattle where we have a lot of Asian food. The miso soup is also very good! read more

First the good. The miso soup was hot and delicious. The eel sushi was warm lightly sweet and quite tender. Yummy. Now some things should not be reinvented and here they decided to re-invented the Philadelphia Roll. Why? Let look at what I was server. Cream cheese which is an important flavor to the roll was almost nonexistent, the salmon was also very tiny..., why? The roll was topped with an enormous piece of tuna. That would be great if I ordered a tuna roll. I won't be back... read more

Joy Sushi - Not a Philadelphia Roll - Japanese Near Me - Whittier, California

Joy Sushi! I have lived in Whittier my entire life and to barely discover Joy Sushi is insane. The interior of this restaurant is so pretty and clean. They also have a variety of rolls and entrees to choose from. I got the tempura roll and it was really really good. My sister got the Bento Box and it was HUGE, she had to get a to-go box! I also noticed that the rolls are much bigger than any other restaurant I have been to. I hope to come back soon, hopefully for their lunch special and some Soju:) read more

Joy Sushi - Tempura Spicy Tuna Roll - Japanese Near Me - Whittier, California

Horrible! If it says it closes at 930 pm that's when you stop serving, when you start cleaning and start making your customers feel uncomfortable. Instead I did not enjoy my meal, I could get the drink I wanted because it was closed, and meanwhile I'm trying to scarf food down my throat...all the employees are staring at me, like when are you going to be done?!?! We walked out at 911 pm and it was crap experience and food. Sad ambiance. read more

This place goes above and beyond our expectations for sushi every time. My husband has his favorite go to's, the crazy avocado and the BCR. This time he also splurged with the gyozas. So delicious! I had the Jessica roll with extra cream cheese, jalapeño, and mango! I scored with this special order. I also always get their mixed tempura, which is always so delicious. This time I decided to get the udon noodle chicken soup. So perfect for cold weather. Thank you Joy Sushi Management and staff for staying Covid safe and staying open during these hard times. read more
