Pretty good sushi and the tap beer specials are unbeatable in Whittier. Try the udon on a California "cold" day, you won't regret it.

Service was really well. Sushi was good. Ramen was very bad, it was definitely those instant ramen packets you buy from the supermarket. But what got me concerned was that when me and my friends were paying the bill my friend gave me a $20 bill for her portion then the rest would be card. I told the waitress "it's going to be cash first THEN card" and she repeated it to me and I said yes. Tell me why when she comes back with my card to pay on the little machine (my fault I should have realized sooner before putting information) that the bill was still the full price of $40 when it should have went down to $20ish dollars when my friends cash went in first. I caught it when it came to the signature part asking why the bill was still $40 when the $20 cash we gave should have went in first and made the price go down. Then went I caught that the waitress acted panicked. So my friend got up to see what was happening, and the waitress was trying to act like she wasn't going take the full $20 as tip even THOUGH it was still in her hands and told my friend she'll give her back the $20. She got the $20 out the register acting like it was a mistake on the machine even though the $20 we gave her was in her hands. We believe she was trying to take it as tip even though I specifically said "it's going to be CASH FIRST then CARD" and good thing I caught it because that was concerning. read more

This place goes above and beyond our expectations for sushi every time. My husband has his favorite go to's, the crazy avocado and the BCR. This time he also splurged with the gyozas. So delicious! I had the Jessica roll with extra cream cheese, jalapeño, and mango! I scored with this special order. I also always get their mixed tempura, which is always so delicious. This time I decided to get the udon noodle chicken soup. So perfect for cold weather. Had a great meal at Joy! Service was exceptionally good. My husband had the Sashimi salad, and I had a Bento Box with Teriyaki chicken. It was very good and enough to share with my husband. The sushi chef is the only good part of this review. Our waitress checked on us twice. Once to put in our order, and the other time to give us the bill. The chef at the bar initiated the conversation and even took both our food and drink order. We ordered a round of hot sake in the middle of our meal, and it literally took close to 30 minutes to get it. The meal was already finished, and the waitress brought out both the check and sake. I usually come here for my sushi needs. Today's service and delivery of food was anything but good. I ordered a bento box, and veggie rolls. All my food was cold, and smashed. Not to mention tasteless. I'm so disappointed that I waited over an hour for pick up and paid over $25 for 2 items. This was a horrible order. The fact that I waited for over an hour would make one think that my food would be piping hot. But, it wasn't. I don't think I'm going back for a while. Grabbed some lunch here since I work in the area and it is definitely worth a visit but it can be quite pricey when compared to other places when it comes to sushi. The place inside is great and it is a good atmosphere inside to be with friends and grab some really good sushi. The service is good as well and nothing to complain about at all. Admittedly, I am a bit of a sushi snob, so when I see a Korean owned sushi spot I immediately have reservations. Not that there's anything wrong with a Korean owned sushi spot, but the attention to detail and strive for perfection just won't be there like you see at many true Japanese sushi spots. At the most basic level, a quality sushi restaurant knows that the rice is just as much, if not more important than the fish. That being said, Joy Sushi doesn't get this, but is it bad? Not really. I actually come here quite a bit because my wife loves it. The service is friendly and during the Pandemic their takeout system has been excellent. As far as the sushi goes, like I mentioned earlier, the rice is sub par, but the fish is good quality and the cuts are generous. I'm not into all these awful fusion rolls with melted cheese or covered in sauces, but if you like that kind of thing they have that too. I would also stick to the sushi. The other items on the menu seem pre-made. I even think their ramen noodles are instant. What do you expect, it's a sushi bar, stick to what they do. If I could give them half a star more because of their service, and large portions of fish I would. Let's put it this way, if you have to go to a Korean sushi bar because you don't have a better option close to you, this is your spot. read more

Are you kidding me? I ordered shrimp two shrimp tempura udon soups and a hand roll ... $60! Shrimp consisted of literally 2 tempura pieces - see picture ... I thought they forgot my shrimp and the waiter said that each soup came with one piece! I get inflation but definitely get more bang for my buck at my spot in hacienda Heights... also my hand full of udon noodles was drowning in the soup, I filled up with soup not noodles. When it came, they only gave me 5 pieces and 90% of the cucumber wrapping was spoiled--why would the chef even consider serving his customers this. Poor quality management. My sister and I visited Joy sushi last night. It was our first outing post pandemic and we were really looking forward to it. The place is tiny but well organized and they have very friendly staff. We ordered the fried calamari rings as a starter and unfortunately it was like chewing into hard rubber. I have never had calamari be so hard and difficult to eat. One of my rolls was delicious but the other one tasted a little off.. I accounted it to my tastebuds being off. I didn't say anything to them thinking it was me, but sure enough, I was I'll all night long due to the tuna being spoiled. I won't be going back at all. This is our favorite sushi place. We eat there at least once a week. Until last night. We ordered 2 Hawaiian Rolls, the Tuna was light pink almost Salmon looking. It was Dry, and very unappealing. It tasted the same way. Problem is this wasn't the first time the last 2 times it was terrible Looking and TASTELESS. I hope the fish buyer goes back to doing something else cause picking out GOOD TUNA isn't working out. It was NO WHERE near worth the $15.00 they charged. This was the 3rd time eating at Joy Sushi. It's close to my house, so my wife and I stopped by one day, and their sushi is pretty good for a local joint. One the weekend evenings like Friday and Saturdays, it gets packed, so make sure you brace yourself for that, but I would definitely recommend you try them out. California Roll is garbage. Grossest thing I have ever put in my mouth. I am not a picky eater at all. As a Chinese guy, we eat almost everything. I took a bite of that bland and nasty deep-fried California roll, I would not even call this place a sushi restaurant. This place is only good if you have no idea what sushi is. It is expensive for something that doesn't even have raw fish in it. This place needs to close out here in LA County, if your food is trashed your place won't last long too much good food out here to be charging that much for such low-quality meat. read more

This place is good spot. The atmosphere is great, the servers are always really nice and attentive. The restaurant itself is really clean and the food is fresh and delicious. However, sometimes the spicy stuff (tuna, yellowtail) is ridiculously spicy which makes it difficult to eat. But other that, the food is good. read more

When you walk right in this place looks super nice and well done with cute little sushi bar. I love how this area is in a nice big plaza with lots of parking. Me and my friend ordered some sushi's and also a really good tasting appetizer. It was something that had jalapeno in it and creme cheese pretty good. I love the sushi here! Yes it is on the pricey side but quality food sometimes can be. I love the Mexican roll it has raw fresh jalapeños packed inside the roll. Ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento box sauce on the side. I guess thinking they might have improved, they haven't. Again the main course of chicken was terrible. The chicken was way over cooked, dry and when its cooked badly it will have lost most of its flavor. It was borderline chicken jerky. This chicken was probably cooked and sat out for several hours then re-heated again for the order. Then cooks will smother this over cooked dry chicken with the Teriyaki sauce to disguise it. I have advised them about this issue in the past and I guess they just don't take their customers complaints seriously. The owner really doesn't care about complaints. Stick to the Udon and Calif Rolls. Hard to believe they have not figured out how to cook chicken. read more

I've been here three times now and forgot to check in. This is one of my favorite sushi places to eat at in Whittier. It looks small from the outside but it's very spacious inside. The decor is authentic and inviting. The servers are friendly and my food came out quick. I ordered the crunch roll and udon soup. They are both yummy!! Oh the crunch is full of crunch and freshness. It's not greasy just love the shrimp tempura and crab meat. The udon soup with shrimp tempura has lots of flavors going on. The broth is to die for because it's rich and I feel like I'm eating healthy. I was craving this broth which is why we came back. Lol. The udon noodles are tasty and pair well with all the veggies in this soup. My hubby ordered a ton of other rolls so I included pictures but I have no idea what they're called. He said his food was delishes. I highly recommend the Mochi ice cream! There are flavors such as strawberry kiwi, chocolate, vanilla, green tea, etc. it melts in your mouth! read more

This is my favorite local sushi restaurant in the whittier, La Habra, La Mirada, brea, Pico Rivera area! Don't miss out on their happy hour or daily lunch menu!!! Parking: huge parking lot in the shopping center. I NEVER have a problem finding parking here! Service: literally the service at joy sushi never disappoints. They are also so on top of their tables. I'm a regular here and never once have I had bad service here Pricing: good pricing for good food. The rolls are $12-14 each and they are hand crafted. I typically order their sashimi, bora bora, mussels & snowy Alaska and my bills is roughly $50. Ok so last time we ordered from here which is precovid the food was okay today the food was not the greatest..1st The garden roll. It did not hold together it fell apart it wasn't even one whole piece of cucumber to wrap around it was pieces and it really salty and the avacado had a lot of brown spots .2nd the baked salmon roll there was more rice than filling and it was really oily. The bottom of the foil was full of oil . 3rd the spicy hand tuna roll it was probably the best one out of all three but it was nothing special.. I'm hoping it's just this way because they're trying to get back on their feet or they're trying to get in their groove post covid that I don't think we will be ordering from them again.. read more

Ordered via grabhub. Delivered earlier than estimated time. Got the rainbow roll and salmon sashimi, they did my request on my order. Food was fresh and delish. I highly recommend. UPDATE 7/11/2020 ordered again today. The rainbow roll and baked crawfish roll are sooo good! I always order rainbow roll and the chef always follows my preference. Thank you so much. We also love the garlic edamame, very good. I also ordered a spider roll, i thought it comes with a side of brown sauce to drizzle on top of the sushi for flavor? But that sauce is missing, probably they forgot? Regardless, i still give them 5 stars. Just a comment though, the delivery person left it on our door, i was waiting for the doorbell to ring and i thought the delivery was taking too long, but when i opened the door, the food was already there.
