Sooo good and such a great value! Hamachi Sushi Express definitely feels like one of those hidden gems where the focus is on fresh, quality sushi without all the frills. The space is designed primarily as a takeout spot, so it's small and intimate, but I actually found it comfortable for dining in. Nothing fancy -- just a casual setting where the food is clearly the star. I ordered the Premium Chirashi Bowl and loved it. It's a great way to sample some of their highest-quality fish all in one serving, including uni and huge scallop sashimi pieces. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions and quality were impressive for the price. Service made the experience even better. The owner was incredibly friendly, and Tyler, my server, was welcoming, accommodating, and attentive throughout my visit. If you care more about fresh sushi, generous portions, and good value than a fancy dining room, this place delivers. I'll definitely be back!
We got the Sushi (20 pc nigiri) & 5 Special Roll (40 pc) catering platter to go and the fish was very fresh! The two rolls in the middle were our favorite (mango salmon over California and tuna over a California roll). We also got a baked lobster roll that was very saucey and all melted together deliciously with nice chunks of langostino pieces.

The truffle is strong but not overwhelming. This dish is so savory, an umami lover's dream. SECRET GARDEN ROLL: 5/5. Incredibly refreshing an satisfying. Surprising amount of food, the rolls were huge, and the end pieces were even larger. NARUTO ROLL: 5/5. Riceless roll wrapped in cucumber that felt really light and fresh. Perfect if you're not into carbs. PREMIUM CHIRASHI: 5/5. Amazing assortment or fresh fish over sushi rice. Comes with fresh wasabi so you don't need to order it separately. SASHIMI COMBO: 5/5. I got the 15 piece combo which came with 5 different kinds of fish, including tuna belly. The consistency of the quality in the richness and fattiness of their toro really is a marvel.
This is one of those places that should be gatekept but I won't do that. Don't let the name fool you but this is a quality sushi place that can only seat about 20 people at a time. I've not (but will be back) to try many more items here but everything we had was fresh and made with a lot of details to attention. And, You can get real wasabi (add $3 a portion and worth it). They even have a 12-course omakase meal for $75 per person but you need to order it at least 24-hours in advance. Check out my pics.
I understand the 5-star reviews- this place is solid. I was satisfied with everything we ordered. Every roll was fresh and flavorful and delicious. The servers were very friendly and accommodating, even when we stayed to chat for a while. They even brought us a complimentary yellowtail sashimi, which was sooooo good. It's definitely small inside, but we didn't have to wait for too long on a sunday afternoon for a party of 4. I'm not sure if you'd be able to sit with more than 4 in there though. Super glad we came! I'd definitely come back. It feels like a hidden gem of La Habra. Quality sushi spot for a nice date or meal out with a few friends.
I go crazy over tamago!! I had to try it here and it was amazing!!!!!! The ambiance is very calm and chill. Haha I remember the people around me staring at my platter of tamago when it came out.
I love this place! We ordered the sushi platter and also decided to add some Toro to the mix! It did not disappoint. It was super fresh, just melts in your mouth 10/10! The chef (owner) here knows his craft, the sushi always comes out beautifully. The team here always provides amazing, friendly, and attentive service! Ordered this to celebrate early Mother's Day, and the owners were very accommodating and patient with me when I was placing the order. We loved every single piece of sushi! Great place, awesome owners, delicious sushi.

Sushi is one of my favorite foods, and with my birthday coming up, I decided it was finally time to enjoy a cake I'd actually be excited about since I'm not much of a sweet tooth. I searched for a while for a sushi cake and found nothing in my area. Then I came across Hamachi Sushi Express, saw their beautiful sushi cakes, and was immediately sold. I called almost a month in advance to preorder. I was willing to make a 4-hour trip to pick up the cake! I even brought an ice chest and everything lol. When I got to the restaurant, I was greeted warmly. The staff were kind from beginning to end. The sushi cake was absolutely perfect. It had toro, salmon belly, mango slices, cucumber, salmon, and tuna on the outside, with some pieces of salmon cut roll for decor. On the inside there was avocado, spicy tuna, crab, and rice. The fish was fresh and melted in my mouth. It was worth the drive. I enjoyed every bite and can finally cross sushi cake off my bucket list. :D

Our visit got off to a bit of a confusing start. The restaurant was only about a quarter full, yet we were told there would be a 15-minute wait for either a table or seats at the bar. But the bar was empty, and the table we were hoping for just needed to be cleared. Instead, we were asked to put our name and number on the waitlist and wait outside until they called us back. It seemed a little unnecessary, and it was super hot outside, but we went along with it. About 15 minutes later, we were seated and finally able to order. Thankfully, the food ended up being the highlight of the visit. The miso soup was quite good and wasn't overly salty like it can be at some sushi restaurants. The sushi was fresh and well prepared. I especially enjoyed the Naruto Roll, which was wrapped in cucumber without rice and had a beautiful presentation. It was light, refreshing, and full of flavor. My BF ordered a Poke Bowl, and that was also a winner. I was pleasantly surprised that they let you customize what goes into the bowl. That's something I usually only see at fast-casual poke shops, not traditional sit-down sushi restaurants. I also love the Spicy Garlic edamame. It was fresh and had the right amount of spicy garlicky kick. Overall delicious food and would probably come back. read more

From Monday to Thursday, they have a special where you can order three rolls (from classic, special, baked lists) for only $39.99. Some of the rolls are $16.95 each so this is a truly great deal. Tonight, my hubby and I tried the baked shrimp roll, killer hamachi roll and seared ahi tuna roll. The rolls were so big that I could not fit one in my mouth in one go as I could in other sushi restaurants. The fish is so fresh with an umami flavor. It is just so delightful to dine here. In addition to the high quality ingredients and flavorful food, excellent service, the neighborhood feel is simply charming. Service here is fast, efficient and friendly. read more

Third time here now. From Mon-Thursday, they have a special where you can order any three rolls from their classic, baked or special rolls. We arrived at 3:30 pm and were warmly greeted by our server and sushi chef Jeff. We ordered their three roll special and by the end of it, we were stuffed. In the meantime, we engaged in a fun and funny conversation with chef Jeff. He told us about his time in Korea's military patrolling the zone between North and South Korea. Then, his wife came and warmly greeted us as soon as she realized we were there. Of course, this entire experience added to the cozy and almost familial vibe of this restaurant. The music, which we were told was the Chill channel at Spotify was icing on the cake. Still love it here. read more

The quality of the fish overall was really good and the price points were pretty standard for sushi. I would say the premium chirashi bowl was pretty fresh, along with the salmon in the poke bowl that we got. I would come back just for the handrolls! I got the salmon handroll and liked how they has the salmon all the way down to the bottom. So good! It is small inside with limited seating but should be fine for a small party. read more

Most wonderful sushi place I have been to for awhile wonderful inside aesthetic and presentation to the dishes is magical. 10/10 would go again, the staff there treat you very well. service has never been better. Desert is amazing I recommend the green tea ice cream and for a drink definitely go with their hot green tea I have never had better tea in my life. One of the best sushi spots I've been to. Not to mention the price is amazing (was maybe $50 for 3 rolls in this economy). It's a small mom and pop style restaurant but it's better than 99% of all sushi spots I've been to. Prob #1 if you factor in price. Came here based on the reviews since my normal poke spot was closed already. This place did not disappoint!! The poke bowl was simple but extremely delicious. I ordered mine with white rice, salmon, tuna, crabmeat, red onion, cucumber salad, cilantro, jalapeños. The fish quality was top tier. The sauces they put in it, I'm thinking from the cucumber salad was absolutely savory. The La Habra Roll was very good as well. Big salmon pieces on basically a crunch roll. The service was nice and quick. Overall I had a great time experience taking this food home and I'm looking forward to adding this to my rotation! read more

All I can say is wow. My boyfriend and I walked in and it has a cozy ambiance. The restaurant is small and intimate. Our waitress was very kind. I ordered the La Habra Roll and my boyfriend ordered the Spicy Tiger Roll. The presentation is on point. My sushi looked so pretty I didn't want to eat it, but when I did I was speechless at how delicious it was. It tasted so fresh. The pieces were chunky too. My boyfriend also loved his roll. We also ordered the Baked Mussels. It should be a crime to make something so flavorsome. I highly recommend ordering that. They don't sell beer, but that's no big deal. We had a wonderful experience. Everyone is so nice and the restaurant is so cute. The restroom is also decorated nicely. This restaurant is definitely worth experiencing. read more

I think this is hands down the best quality sushi spot in the area -- especially for the price. I usually order one of their classic rolls (the Jessica Roll is sooo good), plus the 4-piece sushi combo and some Kanpachi. Everything is always fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious. The service is excellent and the ambience is warm and welcoming. Whether you're grabbing a quick meal or sitting down for a relaxed dinner, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend! read more

It's a small cozy restaurant with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It seemed like there were lots of local regulars that visit the restaurant. Had their salmon bowl, a salad and some rolls. Everything was really fresh and delicious. Highly recommend their salmon bowl if you like salmon. Pickled cucumber that came on the side was seasoned perfectly to pair well with the dish! read more
We got a few different rolls and all were good! They have some more unique flavors and it mixed well with the fish. All the fish was also very fresh. Amazing quality!! It's our CU sushi meets Ueno sushi but better quality (can't even believe I am saying this). Due to small size, best to get here by 7:30 at latest on weekends. We came on a Friday night at 7pm, didn't get seated until 7:45, they already closed doors at 8:15 when our food arrived. - Hamachi Killer: - alba crunch: 8/10 - red dragon: 12.5/10 - Spicy tiger: 9/10 To try next time: - sunkissed roll Tips: - Can call to make a reservation at 562-448-3262 - Has a waitlist in front, then you have to wait outside, as they will call you due to small space inside. - 3 tables of 4, 2 table of 2, and 1 table of 3 inside - Parking: ample - Recommend to call in advance for omakase (at least 24h in advance) and for sushi cake (at least 48h in advance) so they can prepare adequately for your arrival. read more
