Wow! This was the best experience I've ever had at a restaurant! All Staff were amazing, they were so helpful. We let them know we had to leave by 6:30 and they made sure nothing was rushed, but everything was perfectly timed. Our server had fabulous recommendations. He went above and beyond. Outstanding service rating! Wow! After some bad experiences in Michigan, it was very refreshing to be in a restaurant that still pays attention to service!!! When we arrived, we were greeted and asked to coat check. We were then quickly seated. Our server, Emily was prompt and courteous. My drink was not mixed correctly but she quickly sent it back and I had the perfect drink back. The kitchen worked at lighting speed. Timing in this restaurant was perfect. It was so well orchestrated and down to a science! Few places nowadays know how to manage timing for drinks, bread, salad, entree and dessert. Our waiter was prompt but so was everyone else including water, plate removal, warm towels and of course, the kitchen. The plates for the salad were properly chilled (we had the Napa chopped salad - really yummy) and when our steaks came in the super hot plates (I think 400plus degrees) it helped to keep the meat hot while further controlling its cooking. Half way thru dinner service, the manager stopped by our table to check on us and when leaving the restaurant EVERY staff member we passed by thanked us. Additionally, we got a call in the next day asking for our experience. It was well worth the 20% mandatory gratuity, in fact we were delighted and gladly provided a higher tip. Minor things; 1) the music - please have a professional to create a proper playlist 2) dress code need a written policy at the entrance... a jogger still looks like a jogger no matter how much 'fake' bling one tries to pass as real regardless of race and high knee boots with a super short mini skirt only worked for Julia Robert's in the movie Pretty Woman unless one is trying to pass as a 'pretty woman'. We had such a wonderful dinner! It was a lovely gathering with our friends before heading to a company event. We kicked things off with the amazing rolls (herb butter and parmesan cheese) and some spicy shrimp that were just delightful. For our main course, we chose the tomahawk steak cooked to perfection (medium rare), paired with brussels sprouts and truffle potatoes. Logan and Omar provided fantastic service! Our first round of drinks took a little while, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits. We figured the bar was just a bit short-handed at the time. We went for my birthday yesterday (a big birthday) and they made me feel SO incredibly special, it felt like they pulled out all the stops. We loved our waitress (I think her name was Karina, mom of two, made things so personal and nice) and the whole staff was very friendly and accommodating. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left everything was great! We were seated pretty quickly. And then we met our server, Oscar. He was amazing. Oscar explained the menu and made recommendations. He joked with the table and treated us like friends. Everyone at the table ordered a different style of steak while I ordered the sea bass. Everyone said the steak was melting in their mouth and just full of flavor. My opinion is that while the sea bass topped with crab was really tender and a nice portion. It was lacking some flavor. I should have gone with the crusted salmon. Next time! The sides were good and good thing Oscar told us they were shareable. Also, a must-mention was the Crispy Shrimp Deviled Eggs Yum! The wine was great. The jalapeño Mojito was great. The margarita was great, and the blackberry bourbon was amazing. We ordered dessert. We had a deep-fried banana split, a caramel turtle cheesecake type of cake, and a beignet tree with chocolate dipping sauce. AMAZING! between six people and 3 desserts, we didn't even come close to finishing them because we ate too much meat. The one, and only thing I will not recommend, is the coffee or lattes. it was bitter and warm. Hard pass next time! The staff was nice but seemed as they were reading a script and just going through the motions. Of note, 20% gratuity was automatically added to bill. My husband, daughter, and I reserved a high top table in the lounge on 10/9/25. We wanted to have dinner while watching the Cubs playoff game. We have all enjoyed dining at Steak 48 often and often being with a larger group celebrating special occasions. When we were being shown to the high top, there was a large group standing around 3 tables pushed together. It appeared they were having some sort of party. I tapped one lady on the shoulder and said excuse me to be able to reach our table. This group was loud. Very loud. They acted as if they had reserved the whole lounge for their party. Even though we were told by the hostess who sat us they had a reservation, we later come to be informed that they were a walk in group who came in at 4:00 (our reservation was at 7:00). Since the high tops were squeezed in, I was constantly being poked and squeezed. People were on my chair back. They were talking extremely loudly to each other right in my ear. It was miserable. I spoke to 3 different managers about the situation. One offered to move us, but we didn't want that since we had specifically reserved this table to watch the game. Each manager said they would keep tabs on the group and ask them to hold it down. This never happened. When my husband asked them to be considerate about constantly elbowing and poking me, the group got irate. We were subjected to harassment being told to leave and general rude comments by this group. At one point I'd had it and went up to the host stand and asked to speak with a manager again. Two managers came up and I explained the situation was getting worse. They said it was a bar (something another manager who identified herself as the GM had tried to use as an excuse earlier. I said it's a fine dining restaurant not the neighborhood pub on the corner. I expect different standards and decorum in this type of "bar". I asked if I should call the police to remedy the situation. They of course said no. I was feeling very uncomfortable and anxious and frustrated. My daughter said we should just leave and I agreed. We only had a couple of appetizers and drinks at this point and hadn't had our dinner yet, but the other group "won." We left. I told the GM our bill was on her since we were offered no support in this situation and treated as "lesser than." I have no idea why guests who are long time patrons are treated as terribly as we were. Just uncaring and inconsiderate. All we asked for was for the group to keep it down and act as if they weren't the only ones there. I guess this was too much to ask. We have no plans to go back. We feel unwanted there. read more

My son turned to me after his first bite and said,"dad This ribeye is amazing". They have really stepped their game up with the service and quality of food! So I have reservations and I didn't get there until 17 minutes after they close. Which I kept calling and 15 minutes was the grace period. But I was two minutes late. I do understand that once a restaurant closes, They are not obligated to open the doors for you, which is understandable and I did apologize multiple times that I was running late. We ordered steak 22oz, asparagus fries, loaded baked potato, calamari and the mac & cheese. They do give you bread when you sit. So the calamari was very good. It comes with shrimp as well some kind of sauces. I can't remember the name of the sauce, but it was really good. It was a white sauce. Order asparagus fries my bf said they were really good and flavorful. Our main entrée we decided to split everything because it was big portions. Ordered the 22 ounce was not good. They split it in half for us and half that I got was very fatty and chewy. It was no meat on it. I had a tough time chewing it because it was a fatty meat and for the price I feel like it could've been better. I do work in an upscale restaurant as a chef so I do know a good piece of steak and I know a bad piece of steak and the steak that I received was a bad piece of steak. The mac & cheese was really good settled because when they brought it out, it was very soup. The baked potato was really good, but the bacon that they put inside of it was very hard. They brought out a desert. I believe the guy said it was a butter bread cake whatever it was, it was sour and ice cream it's OK because it was free at the end of the day. The next day they called me to ask me my experience which I really love because most places they don't call you back at a restaurant to ask you if you enjoyed. I wasn't going to them the truth because I wasn't looking for a refund. I just wanted my boyfriend to have a good dinner. I told him the next day I did have terrible stomach pains from the food that I ate to where I couldn't eat anything besides Tums , Pepto-Bismol and water. The manager was very helpful. He was able to send over a gift card so whenever I'm at steak 48 again I can be able to use it. We had a 5-star experience here for sure. First, the food was outstanding. We all had steaks that were perfectly prepared and served on sizzling hot plates. I had an Australian grass-fed steak that was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. The wine list is extensive and runs from budget-friendly selections to premium priced reserves. Food and service were amazing!!! Why the one star you may ask? The reason is solely because they are FRAUDULENTLY over taxing their customers. Being that in the dining room there is a $100 minimum which from my understanding comes from a racial issue previously publicized along with Theo dress code. In spite of the bad press they've received we were ready to enjoy a good meal and a night out in Chicago. We anticipated our bill to be high which wasn't the problem. We ordered, we ate and we enjoyed! When we looked at the bill it seemed off. Sure enough the tax was higher than it should be. Steak 48 is taxing the gratuity. I asked the server and he couldn't explain it. The manager came to the table and said it's a "service fee" when it clearly says gratuity. I disputed that should not be but he assured me it was accurate. After speaking with the city of Chicago taxation department I was advised that gratuities and service fees are NOT goods and services and should not be taxed. I emailed a letter to their guest services email that was provided to me with no response. I took really good pics of my food but that is NOT what this post is about. read more

When I say the wagyu ribeye special I had tonight was the best steak I've ever had, however, I'm not exaggerating. This was literally the best steak I've ever eaten. I don't know why this is only a special. It should be on the menu every day as the featured steak. Our waiter Zsolt highly recommended it, and he was right. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and so tender I could cut it with a fork. I was legitimately sad when it was gone, then happy because my son couldn't finish his, and then sad when his was gone, too. Incredible. Absolutely incredible. We also had the lobster and shrimp mac and cheese. If the steak hadn't been on the plate, I would have finished the whole bowl. Had dinner at Steak 48 with my girlfriend as an early Valentines Day/Anniversary dinner. Experience the night of was overall great, food, atmosphere, and our waitress was so sweet and helpful in making decisions. The reason for a lower scored review is because of what happened after the fact. My girlfriend and I got the Norovirus, struggled with symptoms for 2-3 days and with the only shared meal we can think of being at Steak 48 and we had ordered the Oysters which are known to hold this virus as of late we presumed our illness was from them. We gave the restaurant a call more so to give a heads up, and were told they would look into it and give a call back. When called back the general manager Joe Barriga, told us that they checked fridge temps and because other tables ordered the same food as us, basically inferred that we didn't get ill from their food. I would understand from food that is made from the same batch or sauces used all from one place but Oysters are an individual food item. It could be very possible that other tables did not get bad oysters while our table did. To be told, "I hope this assures you of how this was not an issue on our end." is quite disappointing from an establishment like this. Not that we expected anything huge, but a small gesture to make up for a bad experience while spending 200$+ per person with no alcohol was something we expected out of a place that we love to dine at. We've eaten as some pretty awesome places in Chicago but Steak 48 gets so much right. 1) Their specials with the wagyu steaks - pay attention to these and order accordingly. I think I got the 12 ounce and I was so excited to eat it because every bite was like velvet so tender and soft. 2) Their sides are so flavorful and well prepared. We always get extras to take home because they reheat so well. The sweet potatoes kind of taste like a pie filling but it's so good. If you decide to try it make sure it's not your only side because it's on the sweet side. The corn dish is relatively great, and very high on my list as a favorite. I got the spinach because I'm a veggie eater and I don't think sweet potatoes and corn are healthy enjoy to eat as sides. The spinach was top notch, even if they insist on adding cheese to it. 3) The wine... they sell organic wine, and they are prepared to advise you on which may fit your tastes so be prepared to ask any questions you need answered. 4) As a hard of hearing person, I really appreciate the booths. You will need to ask for the booth in advance if you really want one but trust me if it's a date it's well worth the time and it's free. 5) They have valet parking, clean bathrooms and a modern decor to tie things off as an upscale place to eat. 6) Lastly, I had the best waitstaff that I've had in a very long time. Sigh, it kind of makes me sad that other places around can't get service right in this way. I felt cared for and respected the entire evening. It actually made me want to talk and try more. This isn't a cheap dinner, but it can be more affordable with the same level of excellence. 1) Their other steaks are good. You don't have to get the 3 most expensive steaks to enjoy dinner. 2) Yes, their wine list is fantastic but so are their mixed drinks. If you don't want to pay for an entire bottle of wine don't. 3) The sides are large. If you don't want to spend extra on multiple sides you don't need to do that to enjoy your meal.
