We visited Ocean Prime for my birthday dinner, which they were aware of, and as we were walking to our seating saw plenty of couples sitting in window booths. I was excited, but they proceeded to sit us in a shared booth setting right on a busy aisle where I was literally facing a wall. We asked about moving seats, and to their credit we were moved to the back room tables with a window view. As we were waiting for our meal, two women were sat next to us, who was then joined by one of the hostesses (?) who proceeded to stand there with the two slightly intoxicated ladies and have a full on vacation gossip session about where they've traveled and who they know. I looked over at the hostess, who saw me, but didn't take the hint and continued having a loud obnoxious conversation directly next to us. This was going on for what seemed like 10 minutes, so I looked over again, to which she finally took the hint, ended the conversation, then clearly tried to do damage control by checking in with us. I finally got my order, the filet mignon, which I ordered medium rare. The first few bites were relatively good, nothing really special to be honest, but as I got further into the steak noticed it was cooked extremely uneven as the bites got more raw as I went. The remaining bites were literally cold red raw meat in the center. We ordered dessert, which was the Buttered Cake (?), which admittedly was the best part of the experience there. Overall, it was an experience I could have had at Applebee's. I was not impressed with the service, the staff, or the food. For the prices you pay to eat there you expect a level of decorum and attention, none of which we received. Ocean Prime is elegantly appointed, with subdued decor, and is NOT plagued by pounding music set to deafening levels of decibels. The service was extremely attentive, and our servers strove to ensure that our meal was excellent. They struck the correct balance between being attentive without being smothering. The crabcakes were excellent, as was the Chilean Sea Bass. Our steaks and sides were prepared exactly as requested. Ocean Prime mixologists know that they are doing. (A miscommunication about a drink order by our dining companion was attended to immediately - without comment - with the original drink replaced instantly, no questions asked.) Ocean Prime flies in fresh seafood daily, and it shows. If you want surf or turf, this is the place to go. You will pay dearly for a meal, however, as its $$$$ designation is well-deserved. Well, it was a good thing that I got a chance to come back again, forgetting to put in a review from the last visit I had. To be fair that last time was a pick up order and this time I got to sit in it was crazy because the reservations on OpenTable of available times got taken pretty quick. We decided to chance it and see if we could get seats at the bar. We might've waited 5 to 10 minutes and luckily it happened for us. Our bartender was super great making some delicious drinks for us. Upon coming to the restaurant was very surprised at the amount of space this restaurant had. Located within the London House, I always thought it was just a small section of the hotel. Boy, I was wrong. Even the lounge area bigger than expected with huge windows, booths and wrap around bar. For Happy Hour we got some cocktails and glass of super cold white wine. The HH offered $5 off specialty cocktails and $8 glasses of select wines. For food we grabbed the Wagyu burger, crab cake sliders and a sushi roll. My husband really enjoyed his burger. I loved the Prime Roll which was unique in the fact that it had Tempura Shrimp, Cream Cheese, Scallion, topped with a thin slice of Beef Carpaccio. Would definitely order this again. Lastly we tried the crab cake sliders. The sliders were okay, felt it was overwhelming with cheddar cheese and that threw off the taste for me. All in all, it was a nice experience. I had a really wonderful evening at Ocean Prime - Chicago. It was a busy night on a holiday weekend. We did not feel rushed. We had the Hamachi crudo, the halibut special which I found especially delicious, the filet - cooked to perfection. Ordered medium and it was just the right pink in the middle. We also had the baked potato. I had the berry specialty cocktail - it was very fruity - not at all boozy (since I typically enjoy a more boozy cocktail, I likely would not order again). It tasted like a berry sorbet, so it was very good. I found the decor beautiful. It was very nice for a romantic evening. The price point is what I would expect from a seafood/steakhouse. Although we were not there for happy hour, I love a good one and noticed that there were great deals on FOOD and drinks. Would love to stop by the happy hour next time I am in the area. The food was hot, executed well, flavorful and good sized portions. I ordered the calamari as an appetizer and my guest and I split a ribeye steak and order of lobster tails. We also ordered the seafood Cobb salad and Parmesan French fries as an accompaniment. I didn't finish the fish, it was bland and the sauce needed more viscosity. I didn't like the dish. The carrot cake certainly made up for my lackluster entree. It's an elegant venue, and service is consistently excellent. The food also consistently excellent. Variety of non seafood choices on the menu, so non seafood eaters will be just as happy eating here and enjoying the quality of this restaurant. I don't know anything about parking, we are always walking or using Uber. It is readily handicapped accessible, go through main ground floor door and elevator is immediately there, no need to search.
