I'm not a fan of the boil bag concept, but I brought my son here. I ordered a side of fish nuggets; nothing special at all. Not even seasoned. I also ordered the garlic noodles. All garlic: no salt or other flavor. My son's bag was just ok. He ordered the "hot" heat level and it wasn't hot at all. He didn't like that none of the combo bags included what he wanted, so he had to add on a lot for additional money. The service was decent. The girl behind the bar was nice and kept checking in on us. The place wasn't overly loud, which I appreciated. There was a nice buzz, and the music was at a level that still made conversation possible without screaming from the top of our lungs. The decor was cute and unique. I loved the open space. I definitely wouldn't return but my son said he "might".

Perfection! Low Country is my go to spot for seafood boil! I got the crab legs and they were absolutely delicious, impressively meat. The seasoning had great flavor without being overwhelmingly spicy, which I really appreciated. The whole experience was messy in the best way, and the casual, laid-back vibe made it even more enjoyable.

I'm a fan! Came here on a Saturday night and was seated very quickly (no reservations needed.) You have to place your order at the register, and I was glad to see they have several options for people who don't want a seafood bag. I went with the popcorn chicken and fries and enjoyed it. The portions are massive and their lemonade drinks are very legit. Even tho they have a bar, I stuck with my strawberry lemonade for this trip. The price isn't the cheapest, so if you're going for the seafood bag and a drink, expect to drop close to $50 a person. That said I enjoyed everything I tried and would go again

I've been to this location once before, but it's been a while, so I was happy to finally be back. I like that it's half traditional restaurant half self serve. You have to wait to be seated, but you go up to order yourself and then they bring the food to you and cut the bag. You have to grab your own gloves and to-go boxes. They sat me before my friend got there, which was nice, and the staff were all very friendly. The servers check in on you frequently. But the best part is obviously the food. I love that they gave me a tool to open the crab legs easier and a bucket to throw the shells in. The corn and potatoes are delicious and the everything sauce is truly chef's kiss. Hopefully, next time I'm back, I'll remember to order a side of butter because I think that'll be next level delicious. My friend got the shrimp with garlic sauce, and she loved it. We also tried the fried pickles, and as a fried pickle connoisseur, these definitely made my top 3. The lemonade was also really good, so I highly recommend. Overall, it's a really a cute place with great food and service. Can't wait to go back!

I LOVEEE a seafood boil and Lowcountry did not disappoint! The establishment is cutely decorated, very fun and feel good home-y vibes. They played great music and I feel like that instantly makes everything better lol. Seafood was well cooked and delicious. The Cajun spicy level 2 sauce was the perfect amount of salty and sweet but barely spicy at all. Definitely gonna come back to try their crawfish in spice level 3 or 4. Great vibes, def recommend checking them out!

I will never say no to a seafood boil especially if it's from Lowcountry! I have been craving a good seafood boil and Lowcountry satisfied my craving! I also had a Hurricane cocktail and it was amazing! The staff were super welcoming and attentive, this will definitely be my go to spot for a seafood boil! They also have live music and they were killing it! Thank you for a great time and I will definitely be back soon!

We have had better Cajun boil. Choices are more limited here and the flavor wasn't spectacular. I do like that they provided gloves and a nearby sink for washing up. Just kind of pricey for the food.

    Advertised event for Fat Tuesday.
    Darlene N.

My friend and I came here after a full day's work on 3/4/2025 for a Fat Tuesday event that was advertised on social media. This was our first time visiting this establishment. We came around 5:45 p.m. and the event was to begin at 6 p.m. We check in with the hostess who told us it would be a 35-40 minute wait. We decided to wait - they text you when your table is ready. They have barstools to sit in but all of them were full. It got supercrowded in there and many people were standing in the entrance and walkway area because there wasn't really anywhere else to wait. After waiting an hour, we finally get a text message and we were so relieved. One of the hostesses seated us at a table and asked us if we know how things work here. We said no. She showed us the QR code on the table to view the menu and also showed us our table number. She explained that when we are ready to order we needed to get up and go over to the section to physically place an order (remember your table number!). If you want drinks, that is a totally separate line. My friend and I looked at each other like we wanted to leave at that point. That meant after all that time waiting, no waitstaff comes to take your order, everything is self-instructed which was ridiculous! If someone working at their establishment had let us know that in all the time we were waiting to be seating, we could of just ordered our food TO GO! What a waste of time. Both lines to order food and order drinks were LONG and people were not happy as it was a bit chaotic. At one point, you couldn't tell what line from what because so many people were wrapped around the same area. After you order, you go back to your table and they bring you your food by your table number. They don't take long to bring you your food which was one of the few pluses of the evening. The other plus was the majority of the food was good. We had: Fried Shrimp - Excellent. Lightly breaded. Plump and good flavor Jalapeno Cornbread - Moist, dense and delicious Gumbo - Meh. Gumbo gravy was too watery, needed thickness to it. No sausage - there was seafood but you had to struggle to find the pieces of it. Not much rice in the gumbo Beignets - Good. Served warm-they are a nice size with powdered sugar on top Hurricane Drink - needs help. Doesn't taste anything like the drink in New Orleans - NOTE: at the drink station, they charge an automatic 18% gratuity on your bill. All the guy did was pour from a huge plastic container that had the drink pre-made it so how does that call for 18% tip? I don't know if it's heavy foot traffic like this on their non-event days but there needed to be more planning here to handle the crowd or making the decision to turn some people away (the pictured advertisement says "plenty of beads" but, we weren't given any). It definitely was a fire hazard the amount of people standing around the entrance - if there was an emergency where people needed to evacuate, there would have been a problem that could of resulted in something really bad happening. The Radium band they had for the event was GREAT, enjoyed them. I would come back to order food since I enjoyed most of it but TO GO! This place makes alot of extra money because they don't have to pay waitstaff but at what expense? When I go out to eat, I want to be served, not wait in three lines between being seated and ordering food/drink. A big lesson was learned by us that night.

#Combo #5 - Pay Day (plus green beans and sausage)

Loved this place! Such a cute and casual atmosphere. You're seated by a hostess and then order at the counter when you're ready. We had the #5 combo but added green beans and sausage (Everythang sauce - hot). It was a lot of food for two people but we finished it all! It's a good thing I don't live in Chicago or I'd be here constantly. I can't recommend it enough, as long as you're willing to get your hands (or complimentary plastic gloves) dirty!

South loop mediocrity strikes again. I was desperate hence me living right down the street from here & me never partaking. Paid damn near $80 for sine wings, sides a dessert. Some items were flavorless such as the fries & dirty rice & cornbread. Others were just boring such as the chicken & garlic noodles. Not to mention this food gave me the trotters lbvs. Never again!

It opened as a…read morepartnership between Miami Beach's iconic Joe's Stone Crab and Lettuce Entertain You, bringing South Florida to Grand and Rush. I first went when it was still a huge, buzzy Chicago spot, and one of my most memorable dinners came after my high school graduation in 2003. I even got a speeding ticket on Lake Shore Drive with my grandmother in the back seat on the way to dinner, which still makes me laugh. Chicago was an especially fun place for Joe's to arrive. Open outcry trading was still a force, and the wealth creation around it was wild: people who had dropped out of high school could become millionaires in their twenties, while math PhDs from the University of Chicago could make fortunes in the same ecosystem. It was a golden era for hustle culture, when commerce idolized Tony Montana in a way that today is more likely to idolize Jamie Dimon or David Solomon. Death Row and Bad Boy ruled the airwaves, while Michael, Shaq, Kobe, and Allen Iverson defined the NBA. Basketball was so dominant in Chicago culture during my coming of age that I still map other things, including restaurants, to NBA teams. Joe's felt like the Miami Heat coming to Chicago in much the same way Smith & Wollensky represented the New York Knicks: each brought a recognizable piece of its hometown culture into another major city. Joe's brought real South Florida sizzle to Chicago, and it landed at exactly the right moment. Going there felt like an occasion. Florida took longer for me to understand in full. My family has roots in the state going back decades, farther north along the Atlantic coast, and I didn't visit Miami until March 2007, when my sister started graduate school in Coral Gables. That trip began my love affair with Miami and helped me understand why the original Joe's was such an institution. A close family friend's father spent time around Miami in the 1960s and 1970s. He knew local fishermen who caught stone crabs, which gave me an appreciation for the older South Florida culture around the food, separate from Joe's own history. Another Joe's memory captures an entirely different moment. Looking through my OpenTable history, my July 31, 2008 reservation at Joe's in Chicago is the earliest reservation I can find at a restaurant that is still open today. I was 23, working at UBS, preparing to move to New York while the firm was already on fire from its mortgage losses, and Lehman would file for bankruptcy just weeks later. I was broke but wildly aspirational, dreaming about dinners at Balthazar, begging my way past the doors at Cain and Tenjune, hoping to drink for free, and trying to meet women comically far out of my league. Through all of those memories, the restaurant itself has been remarkably consistent. The stone crab claws are incredible, the seafood is excellent, and Joe's holds its own among Chicago's serious steakhouses. The room has traditionally felt a little more formal than Miami, with bow ties, polished service, and a darker old-school steakhouse rhythm, while still being genuinely welcoming. Finish with the key lime pie. Years later, my wife and I held our wedding reception at RPM Seafood, another Lettuce restaurant, then ate at the original Joe's during our honeymoon in Miami during COVID days later, which felt like a fitting circle back. In sheer range of venues, repeatability of quality and atmosphere, and consistency of hits, Lettuce is the gold standard in Chicago, with some of that same reach in Vegas and DC. I've been extraordinarily privileged in my exposure to hospitality, and I still repeatedly admire Rich Melman's model, taste, and execution, now carried forward by the next generation of the family. Joe's is a prime example: world-class, durable, unmistakably Chicago, and absolutely somewhere I want to return next time I'm in town with some dough to spend. While Joe's may not be French, this place still earns my highest marks: très bien!
