He kicked us out in the cold as we were waiting on our ride to pull up. We asked politely could we wait by the door and he forced us (two vulnerable women) to wait out in the cold. I visited Pravare with my best friend to celebrate our anniversary, and overall we had a great experience. We did arrive about 30 minutes late for our reservation, which meant we had to wait roughly an hour to be seated...totally fair. While waiting, we grabbed drinks at a nearby bar. Unfortunately, that delay meant we didn't get to check out the speakeasy this time, but it's definitely on the list for our next visit. Once seated, service started quickly. Our server, Narnica, was fantastic and guided us through the menu with great recommendations. Food Highlights: * Artichoke dip + garlic bread: Excellent. It already comes with shrimp and crawfish, and the flavor was rich and satisfying. * Salmon egg rolls: Texture was perfect...crispy and juicy...but flavor-wise they were just okay for us. * Trio pasta: Delicious overall. The pasta and sauce alone were good, but adding shrimp and crawfish really elevated the dish and made it memorable. Drinks: We received complimentary mango welcome shots (always appreciated!) and a celebratory sparkling rosé for our occasion, which was a really thoughtful touch. I ordered a cocktail similar to a sidecar that leaned sweeter, and it was excellent. THE STAR OF THE NIGHT: The butter cake dessert. Hands down one of the best desserts I've ever had! Warm, moist, decadent, and perfectly paired with ice cream. Honestly, I understand why it's the only dessert on the menu. Service: Outstanding. Staff checked in consistently, bussers cleared plates quickly, replaced dropped napkins immediately. We truly felt taken care of all evening. Things to Know: You must arrive within 5 minutes of your reservation text. There's a 90-minute table limit (though it didn't feel rushed). Definitely make a reservation. There was a long waitlist when we left. Be mindful of add ons: we kept the crab meat on a burger to go and later realized it added about $15 extra. The fries that came with the burgers were amazing...seasoned with Parmesan and full of flavor. Overall: Great ambiance, perfect for dressing up, celebrating, or a fun night out. My sweetie brought me here last night for a pre-Valentines day date night. It was the first time eating here for both of us and my goodness- this food did NOT disappoint!!! We arrived and quickly found out that we needed to make reservations because this place was packed. We were able to snag two seats at the bar after waiting for a bit. If you want this to ahead, but with the other dishes may have a bit less flavor in comparison to the butteriness of the other dishes. My friend was unable to enjoy the meal and she was really hoping for some tea help with her stomach and although it was not on the menu the waitress found a way to brew her up some tea. I have visited Chicago a few times now and this was one of my favorite places I've eaten in all of my Chicago trips so far. My only wish is that I had been hungrier and able to eat more, because the portions were massive and so so good. We had a party of four and planned to eat right when they opened at 3pm. I'm glad we made a reservation about a week in advance, because it did actually seem decently busy for an off-hour meal. The sample cocktail they give you at the beginning is tasty and a fun way to kick off the meal! We ordered the crabby fries and salmon egg rolls to start and I have not stopped thinking about the egg rolls -- I probably could have eaten another plate of them by myself. I've heard so many great things about this black owned restaurant and I've been more than eager to visit here! The decor is really well done; it's a smaller spot, but not too over cramped or at least me and my friends didn't feel very cramped. I also learned that they have a speakeasy cocktail lounge downstairs, but unfortunately it wasn't open the day that we showed up so I'll certainly return again to give it a try. Our server was really attentive and kind. I really appreciated it, because despite how semi-crowded it was I didn't feel like we had had to wait a long time for our food or drinks. My cocktail, supposedly featuring Hennessy, was extremely weak, both in flavor and color. At the end, a 20% house charge was tacked on, which didn't include gratuity. While I'd pay for the taste of the dishes, the overall experience didn't match the elevated vibe they're aiming for. It feels more like a to-go spot disguised as fine dining. We asked her questions about the things that we liked, and she walked us through how to make it better (as if that was possible) because the food was already delicious. One star for the decent food. I guess decent food because you really can't go wrong dowsing everything with butter, cheese, and whatever cream you can think of. I guess just because you add pasta to some dishes it becomes Italian fusion. Everything else after that is terrible. We had a 7pm reservation, but didn't get seated until almost 7:30pm. The audacity with charging for reserving your table and telling you they will only hold it for 15mins, but they can hold you waiting for 30mins is insane. Now this is where I regret of choosing this restaurant the service was just terrible. We didn't see our waiter for a good 15-20mins after being seated. Then he came over just very aloof. Did not explain the menu, nothing just straight to are you ready for your order? After telling us we only had 90 mins to dine, but getting your order in or getting drink refills took most of that time. We got our appetizer and food almost at the same time. Our drinks came very very slowly. My soda came and my cousins wine took forever. When we reminded our waiter, he got so defensive and instead of apologizing he tells us "yeah your drink's waiting at the bar". Like what?!? So are you going to get it or have her wait another 30mins to finally get it, at that point we were already midway through our meal. As soon as we got our food, the waiter proceeds to tells us the whole experience should be 13 minutes?? Whatever that means. It took 4 tries to get the waiter's attention to get one refill for my soda because by the time the one refill came we were almost done with our meal. The two times I was trying to flag him, he literally was in front of me and just ignored me. When he finally gave me my refill he sets it and goes let me get your check! Lol it's so bad it's laughable. Didn't even ask once how the food was or ask if we were done or ask if we wanted dessert. Finally, the automatic 20% service charge, which was never mentioned except some fine print somewhere. So when we received our bill he just showed us the screenshot and not the actual paper receipt. It felt very deceiving and very intentional to get you to add additional tip. So we unknowingly gave another 20% on top of the 20% service charge. This place has terrible customer service, terrible service overall and very deceptive with the service charge. The waiter was inattentive, aloof and seemed just eager to push you out as long as he gets his tip. This seems like the culture of the whole establishment and it's too bad because the food had some potential. read more

For any special occasion, I'm always trying to get back to Provaré, and this time it was for a late Valentine's Day celebration! The inside is so upscale and classy while still being trendy. I've been here twice before and loved it! This time, I noticed they did make some changes to their menu, which was interesting. Before, they just had a simple fettuccine alfredo where you'd have to choose your own proteins at an additional cost. I did like the change that the alfredo now comes with chicken; however, I was not very crazy about the lemon pepper addition. Don't get me wrong: It was still a good pasta, but it was not my favorite like the previous iteration was, and there's no option of removing the lemon zest as it's in the sauce. I always add crab to my alfredo, and it is always soooo good. This time was no exception. I'm definitely going to try the seafood trio next time and see if that'll become my new fave! The Vegan Bolognese has remained the same, and my boyfriend still loves it! Previously, when we came, we were able to make the garlic bread be vegan, but this time we were told it was unable to be done, which was disappointing. The drinks are still amazing! We didn't get any cocktails this time, but Provare always gives a complimentary shot, and it never disappoints. The service is also always really good here. Everyone is so nice! They do add a 20% gratuity but your servers will definitely be sure to let you know that it's shared amongst the other staff and anything more goes to them directly. For an already pricey place, it does throw you off a bit especially when the servers stand in front of you as you decide what to tip them. Overall, I still love Provare! I came here for my birthday dinner and it was great! There was a line when we walked in but as we had a reservation, we were seated immediately. As soon as we sat down, we were given water and our waitress came over minutes later. She was extremely nice and attentive. When she found out it was my birthday dinner, she immediately gave us complimentary shots and told us she would take care of us! and that she did! Our food came out very quickly and was amazing. I had the lobster bisque pasta and not only was it flavorful, but the amount of food was a lot and there were mountains of lobster in the dish! The vibes in there were nice and chill. The music was a bit loud, but I was expecting it as it was that type of restaurant. My group also went downstairs to their speakeasy, which was small but nice. It was not really packed and the music down there was also nice. The only downside is that you had to pay a separate cover for both the restaurant and the speakeasy ($2.50/each), which is not a lot but a bit inconvenienct and seems unnecessary. You also had to book a separate reservation for the speakeasy as well. Overall, it was a great experience, and I will definitely be back. read more
