I have visited Chicago a few times now and this was one of my favorite places I've eaten in all of my Chicago trips so far. My only wish is that I had been hungrier and able to eat more, because the portions were massive and so so good. We had a party of four and planned to eat right when they opened at 3pm. I'm glad we made a reservation about a week in advance, because it did actually seem decently busy for an off-hour meal. The sample cocktail they give you at the beginning is tasty and a fun way to kick off the meal! We ordered the crabby fries and salmon egg rolls to start and I have not stopped thinking about the egg rolls -- I probably could have eaten another plate of them by myself. I've heard so many great things about this black owned restaurant and I've been more than eager to visit here! The decor is really well done; it's a smaller spot, but not too over cramped or at least me and my friends didn't feel very cramped. I also learned that they have a speakeasy cocktail lounge downstairs, but unfortunately it wasn't open the day that we showed up so I'll certainly return again to give it a try. Our server was really attentive and kind. I really appreciated it, because despite how semi-crowded it was I didn't feel like we had had to wait a long time for our food or drinks. The food was simply amazing! I would order my shrimp scampi dish over and over again. They also give you that option to add a little spice. I highly recommend that especially if you are in to Cajun and spicy foods. The drinks were very well made, and the dessert, which I don't often get while out at dinner was really really good. Finally made it to Provaré and it exceeded the hype! The interior is stunning with a great atmosphere and a big, beautiful bar that makes it feel very high-end. Family dinner at Provare to celebrate my mom's birthday. I have been trying to bring my parents here for the longest time cause I keep seeing pictures of this place all over social media. This place exceeded my expectations! I loved every dish we ordered here. We were immediately greeted by the host and waited a few minutes before we got seated. Our server was super helpful and nice since it was our first time. We started off with the spinach & artichoke dip which came with 3 jumbo shrimps that were super juicy. The dip was so rich and creamy that you needed the garlic bread! We ordered 2 seafood pasta dishes, a vegan bolognese, and a lamb chop. I do have to warn people that this place is VERY VERY HEAVY! Only I finished my entree and we had 3 to go boxes. If you're not a huge fan of heavy food then I suggest you to split with someone. The entree itself doesn't seem to be a huge portion, but the food is just very rich and heavy cause of all the sauce/butter they use here. Even though it was on the heavier side, I did not mind it at all cause I did bring my mom here as a treat! The music is spot on and inside is fairly spacious with tables for all party sizes. My friend was unable to enjoy the meal and she was really hoping for some tea help with her stomach and although it was not on the menu the waitress found a way to brew her up some tea. The food came out fast and the overall vibes of the restaurant were amazing. I got the alla vodka and my friend got the Alfredo dip. We got Cajun seasoning on the side but it was soo good we ended up incorporating it all in. The butter cake was extremely delicious and a must have. We had the best experience here! We made a reservation so as soon as we walked in, we were seated. Our server Cat T was amazing. We asked her questions about the things that we liked, and she walked us through how to make it better (as if that was possible) because the food was already delicious. We had the salmon eggrolls for an appetizer, paired with some really cute cocktails. They do welcome you with a shot of rum punch! For our main course, we had the seafood trio with the sauce and noodles from the scampi topped with broiled lobster on top. For dessert, we had the butter cake AND you didn't need the ice cream. provare was an interesting experience. im giving two stars because the food was great - we ordered the lemon pepper chicken alfredo, smashburger and spinach dip. everything came out fast and hot. taking off two stars mostly bc of the subpar service we received from our waiter, Darius and the odd policies/pricing at provare. darius took a minute to greet us but did bring over welcome shots which were tasty. he was very quick but somewhat friendly. he did not ask if there were any allergies in our party which i did overhear other waiters asking their tables. my mother is extremely allergic to shellfish. our food was brought over and we honestly never heard from darius again until he briefly stopped by and checked on us. i also witnessed the table next to us who also had darius as a waiter receiving subpar service. they were checked on once and received their food after us even though we were sat long after they were. again, i am comparing darius to other waiters and i witnessed several others check on their tables including a party of two ladies next to us who had an EXCELLENT waitress that made me slightly jealous that we did not have her. we finished our food and was brought over our bill which included a 20% tip. which made sense considering darius' service because he knew he would collect an undeserved 20% tip without providing 20% tip service. the bill did NOT include the $5 ridiculous reservation charge taken off. on the website it states that the charge would come off the bill. i asked darius about this and he said we had to check in with the hostess to get the charge removed. huh??? so if we never asked or forgot they would've never taken off the charge and pocketed $5. seems extremely predatory. the cherry on top was when i was signing my name on the check on the payment device, darius said "have a great Sunday" and literally walked away and left his device and never came back for it LMAO. (picture included) we did check in with the hostess about the fee. she was friendly from jump, but took a minute to look up my name and tell me that the charge would come off within 2-3 business days. literally anyone who paid the fee and showed up to their reservation should AUTOMATICALLY have the charge taken off without having to inquire about it. finally, for anyone ordering the smashburger you can have the lobster removed because they are charging $8 for it, something i didn't realize you could at the time of ordering. i don't need lobster on a burger. i hope provare looks to improve it's policies and darius' service as it is a sore spot for a restaurant serving excellent food. we were visiting chicago but if we return to the city we most likely will not return to provare. read more

So this is an updated review... Parking street and metered. Service wait time to be seated has improved. Reservations are preferred. Your entire party needs to be there before being seated. The ambiance is cute but it's kinda dark in there. The decor is nice and comfortable. The drinks are reasonable and pretty good. The menu has changed slightly since I originally dined here which is not a bad thing. Everything that I have had was delicious which includes lamb chops, brussel sprouts, Spinach and artichoke dip, salmon egg rolls, crawfish, fried lobster tails, trio pasta, and crab cakes. I've had red wine, tequila shots and drinks, craft beer which has changed to one option only but it's still pretty good. I'm pretty impressed with this restaurant. Leading up to this visit, I tried (and failed) to get a reservation for my party of 4, and was going to wing it and see if we could walk-in. Yes to the walk-in, but there was about a 30-min wait around 4pm on the weekend. The wait time was accurate, and we were seated at a high-top round table in the corner of the restaurant. I don't remember there being a ton of decor, but the dark lighting added a serious, yet chill vibe to the restaurant. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food? So delicious! The salmon egg rolls were a surprise delight, especially with the accompanying sauce. The ala vodka with breaded / fried chicken added was every I thought it would be a more - so rich, filling, and cheesy. The cocktails were nice and strong as well; the Randolph's overt sweetness took away from the flavor of the drink. I tend not to like old fashioneds, but the Mag Mile was phenomenal. My first visit to Provaré Chicago was definitely an experience, and there is A LOT to rave about! First and foremost, I love supporting a Black-owned and operated establishment, and Provaré is a beautiful representation of Black excellence, creativity, culture, and entrepreneurship. Let's start with what they do exceptionally well: THE FOOD! The portions are generous, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. Everything we ordered was delicious, well-seasoned, and prepared with care. You definitely get your money's worth when it comes to the food. The music was phenomenal, the décor was beautiful, and the overall vibe and energy were amazing. The restaurant feels stylish, vibrant, grown, sophisticated, and fun. The ambiance is absolutely part of the experience. A major shout-out to the service as well. Once seated, our server and the waitstaff were attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The table service was excellent and contributed greatly to our experience. A Few Areas for Improvement While I genuinely enjoyed my visit, I do think there are opportunities to improve some management and operational practices, particularly seating, reservations, communication, and the arrival experience. Even with a reservation, you can find yourself standing and waiting for an extended period before being seated. One frustrating aspect is that you cannot simply sit at the bar while waiting and order a drink. Unlike many restaurants where bar seating is first-come, first-served, Provaré manages bar seating through a reservation/waitlist system because those seats are also used for dining guests. I understand the desire to maximize seating and revenue, but the process can feel unnecessarily complicated. Guests with reservations should ideally have a smoother and more comfortable arrival experience. Privé Speakeasy The same issue occurred downstairs at Privé, Provaré's hidden speakeasy. We specifically made a reservation because we were looking forward to the live music, only to arrive and learn that the live music had already concluded for the day. Better communication regarding entertainment schedules would have prevented that disappointment. Once downstairs, we again found ourselves standing and waiting because all seating was occupied. An attendant told us we would be seated shortly, but there simply weren't seats available. I understand the space is intimate and capacity is limited, but the experience would benefit from a clearer reservation and seating process. Another policy I found particularly odd was not being permitted to take an alcoholic beverage purchased upstairs downstairs to Privé. I understand there may be operational or licensing reasons, but from a customer's perspective, it can feel like an effort to encourage another purchase. Instead, I think Privé could embrace a more traditional, elevated speakeasy model: charge a nominal entrance/cover fee, establish a two-drink minimum, and offer clearly defined live-music sets at 6, 8, and 10 p.m. Guests could reserve a specific set, enjoy the performance, and then the space could be cleared and reset between sets. That approach could make Privé feel more exclusive, intentional, organized, and authentic, while also giving management predictable revenue and better control of capacity. It could truly become a destination within the destination -- an intimate live-music experience people intentionally plan for. Reservation Fees & Gratuity I also found the combination of the reservation fee, automatic 20% gratuity, and subsequent encouragement to leave an additional tip somewhat excessive. I have absolutely no problem rewarding exceptional service, but when 20% gratuity has already been included, guests shouldn't feel pressured to tip beyond that. Overall Despite these critiques, I genuinely enjoyed my experience at Provaré. The food, portions, flavors, music, décor, culture, energy, and service were excellent. As someone who appreciates supporting Black-owned businesses, I absolutely want to see Provaré succeed. My criticism comes from a place of constructive feedback, not negativity. The culinary experience and atmosphere are strong enough to stand on their own. If management can streamline seating, improve communication around reservations and entertainment, reconsider some restrictive policies, and make the experience feel a little less transactional, Provaré could go from great to exceptional. Great food. Generous portions. Phenomenal music. Beautiful décor. Amazing energy. Superior service. Black-owned excellence. There is a LOT to love about Provaré, and I would absolutely return. read more

For any special occasion, I'm always trying to get back to Provaré, and this time it was for a late Valentine's Day celebration! The inside is so upscale and classy while still being trendy. I've been here twice before and loved it! This time, I noticed they did make some changes to their menu, which was interesting. Before, they just had a simple fettuccine alfredo where you'd have to choose your own proteins at an additional cost. I did like the change that the alfredo now comes with chicken; however, I was not very crazy about the lemon pepper addition. Don't get me wrong: It was still a good pasta, but it was not my favorite like the previous iteration was, and there's no option of removing the lemon zest as it's in the sauce. I always add crab to my alfredo, and it is always soooo good. This time was no exception. I'm definitely going to try the seafood trio next time and see if that'll become my new fave! The Vegan Bolognese has remained the same, and my boyfriend still loves it! Previously, when we came, we were able to make the garlic bread be vegan, but this time we were told it was unable to be done, which was disappointing. The drinks are still amazing! We didn't get any cocktails this time, but Provare always gives a complimentary shot, and it never disappoints. The service is also always really good here. Everyone is so nice! They do add a 20% gratuity but your servers will definitely be sure to let you know that it's shared amongst the other staff and anything more goes to them directly. Food was just OK and way over priced for what it is. But let's start with the service since 20% gratuity is mandatory and included in your bill. I made reservations on Tock and mentioned on there it was my wife's bday and if they can please bring a cake out after dinner. Since we waited, I had already knew what to order, from drinks to apps and main courses. So I specifically tell the waitress to please space everything out over the course of the meal. Lo and behold, within 15 minutes of placing our order with the waitress, OUR ENTIRE ORDER ARRIVES. From the main courses, the apps, the sides, EVERYTHING. Nothing was spaced out. Our drinks followed shortly after. Again, the food was JUST OK. Being that it came out so fast makes me wonder how it was cooked that quickly. So once we finish, our waitress arrives with the POS in hand and displaying the total (not itemized). I asked for the itemized receipt and notice that 20% gratuity was already included, even though when proceeding with the transaction, it again asks for additional tip (I obviously declined). Once paid the waitress says thanks and that was it. No dessert, no surprise birthday cake, NOTHING. Legit worse experience I had at a restaurant and I go to places in the city often. This restaurant has been on my list for quite some time and I finally made it! It did not disappoint! The place is cute and great for a drink at the bar or to sit down for a nice meal. It is very popular so be ready to wait a bit for the bar or to look ahead for a reservation. The staff were all great! Our waitress was very nice and gave us bigger plates when my friend and I were sharing our entrees. When we needed boxes, she gave us two sets of boxes for our leftovers too. Everything on their menu looks delicious and I definitely want to come back to try other items. But we started off with the spinach artichoke dip ($16) which comes with shrimp in it. They give lots of bread and there's plenty of dip to share. It was very cheesy and the shrimp was a great mix with it. The garlic bread were big pieces which helped to fill up on the dip. For the entrees, I had my eye on the Seafood Trio ($39) so we ordered this. And I always enjoy an Alla vodka ($24) which they asked if you want it spicy or not. We got it spicy and it was spicier than the seafood trio. We wished we had some bread to help with the spiciness but both were delicious! I have to say that the sauce for the seafood trio was slightly better as I felt there was more flavor and less of a just a spicy taste compared to the Alla vodka. I also like that they give plenty of seafood. For the dessert, we kept seeing the same dessert coming to different tables and apparently it's the only dessert. But this dessert is all you need. The Butter Cake ($12) was the cherry on top to the end of the night. We felt that the cake was a mix of a bread pudding and corn bread that was soft but had a crispy edge. The ice cream was perfect to mix with the hot dessert. My friend and I said that we would come here at the bar for a drink and the dessert alone. This dessert is a must! From the moment I walked in, I received exceptional care and service. Every single staff member was attentive, friendly, conversant and great at their jobs. As an out of towner, I really wanted an elevated Black-ass experience and that's exactly what I got here. The ambience is great and the food is truly DELICIOUS. Worth every penny. I got the Crabby Fries, which were nicely done. I also got the vegan bolognese with a side of asparagus and it was decadent. Such an intentional balance of flavors. I also got to sample their rum punch and had a delicious mocktail made by Trell. He was so sweet. It just feels different when Black people take care of their own! Truly.
