I recently visited The Brunchery for brunch, and I had a wonderful experience. I ordered the French Toast Flight and a Mimosa Flight, and both were absolutely delicious. The French toast was flavorful, creative, and a fun way to try different varieties. The Mimosa Flight paired perfectly with brunch and was a great addition to the meal. What made the experience even more special was the hospitality. The chef and owner came out to speak with us, which added a personal touch and showed how much they care about their guests and the overall dining experience. The food was really tasty, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was excellent. I can see why this spot is a favorite for brunch lovers. We stopped by on a beautiful Sunday morning and were lucky enough to grab one of the outdoor tables. The nice weather made the whole experience even better. As expected in downtown Chicago, parking can be a bit of a challenge, and the restaurant was packed with people. We ended up waiting about 10 minutes before getting seated, which wasn't bad considering how busy it was. Overall, the food, atmosphere, and experience were well worth it. We showed up with a group of 6 and were able to get a table outside in the shade right away. The espresso martinis were delicious. My tuna melt was excellent and we all loved the breakfast corn dogs. The issue we encountered was that my friend was served her breakfast sandwich on a moldy bagel. When she pointed it out to the server, he kind of played it off but offered to have it remade. He came back later and told her she was right that it was mold and they had to throw out an entire thing of bagels.... But then still charged her full price for her meal. Honestly, this food was so bomb! Lol I still think about those cinnamon roll pancakes. Yum! I had the cinnamon roll pancakes w/ chicken sausage & fried potatoes. Papa had two meals lol. He had the jerk chicken omelette w/ fried potatoes & waffle. He rated his food 9/10 & didn't leave a crumb. We also shared a mimosa tower & it got the job done. Gratuity is gratuity. Not a requirement. It should be based on the service provided, not prices of subpar dishes. And credit card processing fees? It's 2026. Either take a hit on that or just add that to the price of the food like every other place in the world. Food (2/5): The wrap was flavorless and dry as the desert. It is NOT worth it. The sandwich was good. I love sourdough bread. I make it every weekend. But... this bread was NOT a good choice for this sandwich. The food was good but prices were quite high and there's an automatic 18% gratuity that they did not warn us about so I'm warning you. We were seated pretty quickly, but our server did not come over for about 10/15 mins and kind of rush us through our questions, he said we should have a special menu but never brought it (we were facing were you couldn't see the specials menu). It took awhile to get some help and there were a lot of people working. I overheard another guest say that there were more employees than guests! The food came to the table and it was quite salty. I tried to drink my coffee in hopes to offset it, but it was not helping as it tasted burnt. I was so disappointed because shrimp and grits are one of my favorite dishes! The guests next to me were very friendly and told me that they were unhappy with their food too. When you are on vacation and looking for a fun place to eat, you really hate to see it turn out like this. The menu here has so many things that sound good! I had to ask the waiter to help me choose out of my top options and we settled on the jerk chicken Alfredo omelette and the loaded hash browns. I was advised to get them without cheese because the cheese can be a lot but when I tasted them they definitely could have used something. I assume they may have been more enjoyable with the cheese added. However, that omelette was so good! I definitely recommend it if you're feeling a savory option. Haven't been here in 3 years since it was called Frances and I see why. It get crowded on the weekends and you sit pretty close to the next table. Parking is hard to come by in the area. I ordered the special which was suppose to be jerk red snapper in a garlic sauce. My friend enjoyed her food, me not so much. There was nothing jerk about the red snapper and the sauce needed more garlic. I will say it tasted fresh but no flavor at all. I had eggs and cheesy hash browns. I do not believe that we could make reservations so when we arrived the place was packed from wall to wall (not even kidding). Think it was about a 40 minute wait time. It's kind of compact and congested inside. Hard to maneuver without bumping into anyone, but it loved the theme. It was decorated festively throughout the interior. Such a beautifully decorated spot for brunch. Although they pack us in there, the service was great. I went with a group of friends, all of which ordered something different. When we were finished, I don't think there was much food left on the plates. I ordered the catfish plate with the eggs and potatoes. I literally could not stop eating the catfish and ate the entire thing. The potatoes and the eggs were cooked to my liking and my latte was on point. The other girls had the tuna melt, a burger, tuna salad wrap, and veggie omelet. Let not forget about the mimosa flight with all the juice options! Those were delicious as well! Firstly I love that it's black owned, and if I'm not mistaken the chef was walking around a little checking on the tables - great great service. I decided to branch out and try the jerk shrimp and purple grits. It wasnt my favorite but I can say I tried it. The three shrimp you got were good and cooked/seasoned well however the grits really just were extremely lumpy and didn't have much taste.. 5/10. More than likely would pass next time. My friends had fish & eggs and I think a waffle. They enjoyed their food. Everything smelled great. Though everything came hot, it was a good bit of a wait. However it was PACKED on the day we came. Now that I have become a suburbanite, I don't get back into the city to dine out often. I was catching up with some friends later in the day, so I got a head start with breakfast. I came here with friends for a Sunday breakfast experience. I came at around 10 AM and I was surprised because there were a few people there already seated. I was thinking that I was an early bird and there wouldn't be that many people. The decor is very cute. It has kind of a southern shabby chick vibe also you must take a photo at the floral wall before you leave or right when you come in. One thing to know is they will not seat you until your entire party arrives so it's very important that your entire party arrives at once. We sat down and ordered the catfish deviled eggs. The presentation looks great. Always surprised me how they fry a deviled egg and place pieces of fried catfish on top. This was not for me and I didn't care for it. I would pass on it. The flight of French toast?! Amazing! 1 million. I was surprised at how amazing it was. All of them, every darn flavor was just dreamy. All of us ordered the chicken and waffles and we really enjoyed it. The waffle comes with a chipotle hot sauce syrup that's interesting. Waffle is nice, it does have a lot of all spice so if you are ok with that, it's cool. Chicken was flavorful and seasoned well. Service was great. We really liked our server as she was very attentive and pleasant. Gratuity is already added in the bill which is cool. Parking is tough! However, the experience was not what I expected. To start, my pop was flat, so I sent it back. The waitress seemed a bit confused and asked if it had gas, it just had no flavor at all. I decided to stick with water after that. We ordered the bacon flight, and the presentation was horrible. Almost all the slices had a burned look, One slice came broken into pieces, and every slice was cold. Needless to say, all of the food that came out was cold -- nothing had any warmth to it. The French toast flight looked beautiful presentation-wise, but the taste was just okay. The raspberry french toast was extremely sweet not enjoyable. The strawberry French toast definitely had the best flavor out of everything we tried. For the restaurant being nearly empty, I expected much better attentiveness from the waitress. Our table never received napkins, so I had to grab some from a nearby table myself. I also never got a refill on my water, and I'm used to restaurants at least offering refills without having to ask. The most bothersome part was having to get up and find my waitress just to pay the bill. I eventually found her eating at the front counter. Will I return? Came here with a friend at 10:30am on a Saturday and there was no wait for a table which was amazing. We sat outside and the ambiance was ok, the seating was a little outdated but the area is nice. The service was amazing and quick. I got the nova lox sandwich and it came on a board so I could build it myself and this was delicious and an amazing idea! I loved putting my sandwich together and the ingredients all tasted fresh. My friend liked the fruit and said the waffle was tasty. The French toast flight also looked amazing, but we decided to not do a heavy sweet breakfast and I was still impressed with their other food options. Disappointed with my birthday brunch here. They don't take reservations so we came right after they opened for a Saturday brunch. Restaurant was pretty empty and we were promptly seated. The restaurant is bright and cute inside. For drinks we had the mimosa flight (cotton candy, blood orange, peach, and dragon fruit), blood orange screwdriver, and a lemon drop. I noticed the blood orange mimosa was a different color (as shown in the pictures, looked and tasted like regular orange juice). I brought this to the waitress attention and said I wanted the mimosa redone with blood orange juice. She then brought me a small side glass of the juice about 5 minutes later. I told her again I wanted the drink remade/replaced since it was not blood orange juice in it, not adding more juice into my premixed cocktail. I got the actual drink about 10 minutes after that. This is an example of the type of service we received while there. The actual blood orange mimosa was amazing & the cotton candy one was fun, I definitely recommend. For food we got the strawberry French toast, catfish executive, and the great since 38 special. French toast was good, catfish executive was missing flavor, it tasted like nothing was seasoned, just cooked. Asked for hash browns well done for 38' and they were not so we sent them back and waited almost 30 minutes for the replacement. The service was the most disappointing part of this visit. Waiting over 10 minutes for silverware that should've been on the table, replacement items because items were not made correctly, etc. really put a damper on the experience. We were constantly having to flag down staff because no one was checking in, waited on our check for over 20 minutes, etc. Really wanted to like this establishment as we love to support Black establishments & love the restaurant idea but unfortunately don't think we'll be back. read more

Not something I would order again, but worth a try. The Benedict which I looked forward to, was underwhelming.
