(Sorry I am a bit tipsy atm) lol:) We had a power outage in DuPage County so we are staying at our place downtown because we had zero power and thus, had to discard 2 refrigerators of rancid food (i keep a freezer full of mostly varied berries that I grow in my garden and my Tree Beeries that I have cultivated) Anyway this place serves quite delicious Hashbrowns (vegan by default - they use oil not butter) My husband has a sweet tooth and the cavities to go along with it and he ordered Chocolate Chip Pancakes plus a side of a bacon omelet with Hashbrowns It is pretty challenging to mess up American Breakfast and I was able to get potato Vitamins A and Vitamin C and 5% of my daily Potassium along with Fiber for less than 150 calories Service at a very early 5am (my natural wake up time) was excellent! Review for take out only. It was 8pm and we were hungry and just wanted to pick up some food to take back to our hotel. I got the chicken kabob platter which came with rice, salad, two chicken kabobs with peppers and onions and a side chicken noodle soup. My kid just wanted a kids meal chicken tender meal which came with a side of fruit. My husband got chicken tenders. The meal took a bit to cook but they packaged all our food nicely and I paid. It was pretty pricey I thought for the type of food we were getting but whatever. When I got back to our hotel I realized they didn't give me a fork for my salad...only a spoon for my soup which is fine. Chicken kabobs were decent. Alittle overcooked. Salad was standarded with huge cucumbers and tomatoes (again no utensils to cut up anything!) and rice was decent. Chicken noodle soup barely had chicken in it but broth was decent. The fries and chicken tenders were just sad looking chicken tenders. They were not that great. Overall pretty standard diner food at inflated prices. My family and I have visited Griddle 24 a few times over the years and we've ordered pick up twice. It's okay food, open 24 hrs and it's in the neighborhood so it's convenient. Today I ordered delivery from the website and upon delivery I was given the wrong food. I called the restaurant and the lady on the phone was rude. I told her I received the wrong food, she checked the order and she realized the restaurant got the order confused. I ordered a steak skillet, they sent me a half cooked steak. (see photo) She tells me she doesn't have any delivery people available and all she can tell me is sorry. She confused me by saying the website that said griddle24.com is not ran by the actual restaurant so she can't refund my money. I'm VERY upset and I feel like they've stolen my money. I ordered what I wanted, I paid for what I wanted, and at no fault of my own, I can't get the food I ordered nor can I get my money back. They'll never see me nor my family again. I moved to Chicago from the Detroit area. Here, we've got Coney Islands and diners everywhere - ANY of them have better tasting food than Griddle 24. I've tried this place twice, maybe 6 months apart, most recently coming back in November I believe. Just no. For the price, the food is so greasy and I always leave disappointed. I hate to leave a bad review because the staff are always so kind, I just can't justify spending another penny at this place. We came in, ordered our food, and were chatting at our table when a man walked up and asked if we wanted the check. He was clearly incredibly drunk. He was slurring his words and could barely stand, so at first I honestly thought it was some kind of scam. We told him we didn't need the check yet. He then said he was the manager, and that our waitress was too scared to ask us to leave, so he came over himself. He waved his hand at us and told us to hurry the hell up. I spoke with another manager afterward. His only response was that there's a time limit. That's fine, but if that's the rule, just tell us. We would have happily paid and left. Griddle 24 met our needs. We ordered the Chicken Marsala, Southwest Salad, Chicken Parmesan, and Greek chicken. All, except Southwest salad were on the $12 special menu that came with a salad or soup and were generous portions. We also got a chocolate cake to boot. We were traveling from TX and stopped in on Thursday around 11 a.m. and were pleasantly surprised that there was no wait! From the moment we arrived, we had the best experience, thanks to our amazing waitress, Maria! The food was absolutely delicious! I ordered a breakfast skillet, and it did not disappoint. Maria truly helped kick off my birthday on a fantastic note! We enjoyed our experience so much, and the restaurant was so conveniently located near our hotel, that we decided to return on Saturday before heading out of town. Saturday was much busier, but we found seats at the counter and, of course, requested Maria again! This time, I ordered the strawberry, banana, and Nutella crepe, and it was AMAZING! Maria kept our coffee hot, checked on us regularly, and once again provided exceptional service. Great food, wonderful atmosphere, and outstanding customer service! The portion sizes are massive, so be prepared to EAT or take leftovers home. I got the Popeye Scrambler without spinach. Pancakes came on the side and it was super filling. I'd definitely recommend. Upon entering the restaurant, you are immediately immersed in the chaos of 24 hour diner. We were seated at the bar, which gave us a front row view of the kitchen window. It was impressive to witness the volume of orders being handled by the staff. They seem to have an efficient system, but it can lead to incorrect orders. In our brief time there, we saw a few being sent back from wait staff, including mine. I ordered the Española omelette, sans cheese, but my request was mistakenly omitted. After receiving the correct order, it came back undercooked and lacking any discernible flavor. The chocolate chip pancakes were of perfect diner quality--crispy edges and chock full of chips. Lots of the fairly typical offerings to be expected. There's burgers, salads, and sandwiches. Finding a good time to come here is a crapshoot. It's always open and that means you can come at any time figuratively and literally. The place typically gets busy in the morning because they have massive choices including omelettes. Also it's great for late night munchies after having fun. May seem like a surprising place to get vegetarian choices but they have these. It's about $16 for the Impossible Burger. We each got this while I left the cheese off, but got it with avocado and the choices of sides. A lot of entrees to look through on the menu. There's pasta as well as sandwiches like paninis. Get here literally whenever you want to because it's always open of course. It's located close to the Chicago Avenue Brown Line station. It's a great mom and pop 24hr diner where the staff will actually get to know your name, and you can sit in a cozy booth with friends or family. Their breakfast deals are phenomenal (check out the 2x2x2; or my favorite the Popeye's Scrambler). My wife typically enjoys the corned beef hash & eggs or a Reuben. Pancakes are a must. We sometimes come as a family for dinner after the kid's sports games and I love their $12 dinner specials (especially the chicken kabob plate) while my kids always just get the Mickey Mouse pancake. I love a good diner and griddle 24 is exactly that. When we arrived there were a lot of people waiting. You have to put your name on the waitlist and be present inside the diner to get a seat. They are a bit soft at most places, but somehow the Griddle managed to make them crispy like regular fries. Maybe they double fry them? This was the star of the show. Fantastic breakfast! The countryside skillet was packed will food. You can easily split it or get 2 meals from it. It was the first time I've also had a restaurant make their hashbrowns crispy. The restaurant was packed and it truly feels like you're in a classic diner. The prices are very good for the quantity you get and the service was very helpful in getting the things you needed and answering questions. They also had Spanish speaking staff which was used a few times to help customers. Definitely going back! Finally visited this iconic diner. It really did not disappoint. We were at a nearby bar and needed to get some dinner before heading home. Upon arrival, we were seated at a spacious booth. For food recommendations we were told by staff that the burger was good, the kebabs were good and also the pancake breakfast with bacon. We decided to roll with the recommendations and get an Acalpoco Burger and Kebabs. Both these came with soup. Food: I ordered the Kebabs which was chicken, rice, pita, greek salad, and sauce. I was impressed with this dish and even more surprised by the French Onion soup. While the soup looked cheesy (no punt intended), it was really good. The onion broth had a deep flavor. My husband devoured his burger so it must have been good. He also like his chicken noodle soup. Drinks: They serve beer, wine and cocktails at this establishment. I grabbed a Osyter Bay White wine and it was nice and cold. My husband got the IPA on tap. Overall a good experience. I believe our waitress name was Maria (Maria with the red hair).
