Went here for a Sunday morning breakfast with friends. We were seated immediately and the waitress came by to get our drink orders immediately. This diner and notice I said diner was disappointing. They have a large menu which should've been a red flag for me but I had the grandkids we just came from the slime museum and they were hungry. We settled on chicken wings as an appetizer they tasted like they had been taken out of the freezer microwaved, and then poured sauce all over them. They were not appetizing. We had cream of rice soup. It was thick, but bland. For our main course, we had a ribeye steak with a baked potato. The ribeye wasn't bad, but the baked potato had to be returned because it was rancid. The salmon was OK but it just didn't have enough seasoning. Service was OK but nothing really stood out in this place not the food not the ambience not the service. I so wanted to love this place. Definitely thought this was giving greasy spoon vibes...but oh it's so much more! Giant menu, breakfast served all day, boozy milkshakes and amazing service! Place has the potential to get packed, I'm sure. We got there noon-ish on a Saturday after the Faces of Fitness festival a couple blocks down. Decent crowd for sure, but not overwhelming. Great diner in river north area serving great diner food 24/7 most of the week except Mondays and Tuesdays. My wife and I stopped in one day for breakfast. Ended up ordering Salmon Egg Benedict that came with a side order of fruit. I am impressed every time I visit Griddle 24. This bustling corner diner is bright and cheerful. Big windows allow tons of natural light in. You can watch the action of the city day or early evening. The interior is colorful and clean. There are booths, tables and counter seating. The staff is incredible. Not only are they efficient, but friendly and helpful. Every server that has assisted me has always been a true professional with a big smile. The food is impressive. Everything is super fresh and prepared perfectly. Imagine spending roughly $20 per plate, but sharing between 2 people... that's like $10 per person for an extremely filling meal! Not into breakfast? Their menu is also large (like their portions) so don't worry. Great diner food, and not uber-greasy (major plus). The host greeted us with a warm smile and hearty hello. David & Miguel were very unprofessional. From the beginning we stood in line. They only ask if there was a party of 8. We were in line before a party of 8. There was only 2 of us. I asked if we could sit at the bar. Miguel told me no. Then when I mentioned creating a review, he proceeded to try to sit us at the bar. Very unprofessional!!! Don't waste your time or money. The food all came out hot and as ordered, as I'd asked for the corned beef hash & the hash browns to be extra crispy. The food was good. Nothing extravagant, but good solid diner food! Our server Victor was incredible. He was very personable and always kept our drinks full. The ambiance is always nice; good music, nice lighting, and very clean. I ordered the French toast and eggs with some chicken wings to share with my friend on the side. She got the Veggie Crapes with holidays sauce and a tea. I washed my meal down with a coffee. Everything was diner perfect. My friend wasn't a fan of her crape. I think she wanted more flavor, but the holidays helped. The chicken wings were a pleasant surprise and one of the best parts of the meal. I noticed they sell chicken and waffles but use chicken tenders; their chicken wings are so good, so why not combine the wings with the waffles? If they did, I believe they would have one of the best chicken and waffles in the city. When asking my excellent waiter why they didn't do the wings with the waffles, he said the cook didn't want to. My wife and I used to live down the street from this restaurant. It was great - food was always okay but the staff were always very welcoming. When I called to order a bowl of chicken noodle soup as take out last night to pick up on my way home, I was told "We don't take orders over the phone. The only way to order something to go is to download the Grubhub or [named a few other apps]. Good luck." This lack of service for a f'ing bowl of soup is appalling. In the south, sausage gravy is made with ground sausage and tons of pepper and sometimes even spicy sausage. Couldn't find any breakfast place to seat us until we arrived at Griddle 24 which they did promptly. This is your typical 24 - hour diner which serves many dishes however breakfast had the spotlight. I was very excited for the Irish skillet however it came out looking very dull and sad. The flavors were there and to be honest I was a bit hungover so it did the job however it was all a bit dry and the potatoes were not crispy whatsoever. Overall it was a bang average meal and it costing almost 20 dollars certainly doesn't justify the quality of the dish. It helped that my waitress was a very nice lady and got our food in pretty quick time. There seemed to be a few arguments between the servers and cooks which was pretty obvious as they have an open kitchen. I would go here again for lunch or dinner as it seems a bit more appetizing than their breakfast offerings. read more
