Ive never left negative reviews, so the fact that I'm writing this says a lot. My wife and I came here after seeing multiple reviews calling this place a "hidden gem," so we were looking forward to try it on Unfortunately, the experience started off poorly the moment we walked in. We both immediately felt something was off. The restaurant looked dirty, with stained walls, stained couches, and dirty tables. The food was also disappointing. We ordered the country fried chicken with gravy, and the chicken tasted like a frozen patty straight from the grocery store. The pancakes were the only bright spot. Service didn't help. Our server wasn't welcoming, never introduced himself, and didn't check on us once during the meal. I ALWAYS tip regardless, unless the experience is truly bad. This was one of those rare times. What happened next completely confirmed how disappointing this experience was. As we were leaving, our server noticed there was no tip and actually came outside to confront me about it. The Hollywood Omelette gets a Rotten Tomato review from me. I expected an action packed crowd pleaser - the trailer promised avocado, sautéed mushrooms, garlic, and two kinds of cheese. Instead, I got an avocado spread that was well past its prime in appearance and taste, mediocre cheese, and a garlic flavor that ruined most scenes. "Eggs Cafe" is sort of a misnomer - its signs say "Eggs, Inc." and that is how we've known it for the past 5 years that we've been eating here. It is our "go to" breakfast place at 680 N Lake Shore Drive. It's not all that easy to find unless you're looking for it. When we walk past Wildberry at Water Tower and see people lined up waiting an hour for a table on a Saturday or Sunday AM, we'll often suggest to the crowd that they walk the 4 blocks to Eggs, Inc. instead. All of their food is good. Service is always brisk, and they are extremely accommodating for any changes requested. It is a great place for families with kids. They have breakfast and lunch dishes equally available at all times. (It's open in the morning until the early afternoon every day, it is not open for dinner.) I'm always surprised that it is not more crowded than it is, as we have never waited for a table. (We have become regulars, however.) Unqualifiedly recommended! read more

Eggs, Inc. is on the first floor of my obstetrician's office, and I hadn't heard of it before. When I've gone to an appointment I haven't stopped in but yesterday I had an appointment and headed to work after so decided to get something for lunch. The restaurant is large, and whenever I've passed by on the way to the doctor they've never been very busy. I ordered mine to go so I could get to work and it took about 10 minutes. They have an extensive menu, lunch and breakfast, and though I love an omelet I decided to go with the reuben of the classic variety (they have a turkey reuben as well, and I have to admit it was hard to decide between the two). The sandwich was really quite good. Unfortunately I totally forgot about the thousand island, which I found later in a bag that had the side of soup that comes with the sandwich. But even without the dressing it was excellent and I'd happily order it again. It's making me hungry for one right now, actually. The soup was less good. They had chicken noodle and split pea, so chicken noodle it is! But unfortunately the chicken noodle tasted like something that came out of a can, with pressed cubed chicken and all. This is a straightforward little diner on the first floor of one of the big office buildings in Streeterville. It gives off a hospital cafeteria vibe, but if you look past that, it's a reasonably nice and tasty place. You can get a good omelet, or a sandwich and a cup of soup, hot coffee, etc. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for the food, but I wouldn't exactly be sad to stop in here for a hot lunch after a doctor's appointment either. read more

For starters I came with my girl to get a quiet breakfast. I wasn't that hungry, really wanted a cup of coffee. My girl was hungry so I figured I would eat a couple bites of what she had and enjoy my coffee. My girl orders and she says " we are just going to share" to the waiter. He says oh, we have a $3 charge for sharing. I ask, is that because you split the food in half. He says no, it just a charge for sharing. Now about the good, my girl got gluten free pancakes that were pretty good, back to the bad. The rest, a veggie omelette and hash browns were not that good. So buyer be ware, if you want to share a breakfast that is so so and pay an extra $3 for the waiter to bring you extra plates then by all means this is your place. Delicious skillets! I had the garden skillet which was very veggie...but really more cheese and potatoes than veggies. And...I'm not offended. I paid an upcharge to have the banana crunch pancakes. Next time I could probably do fine with just regular pancakes. Coffee was good. Service was fast and friendly. I came on a Thursday about 10:30 and there weren't many customers, again...fine by me! Drawback, of course, is that it's not easily accessible...it's inside a big medical/residential building on LSD so very little parking. The service was amazing and the server was very helpful and courteous. I ordered the veggie omelette with English muffin and the omelette was light and fluffy and had a good amount of veggies while also adding a kick to it with jalapeños and pepper jack cheese. The English muffin was crispy as well. We also ordered the berry pancakes which was made with a grain based flour and topped with Greek yogurt and berries. So the 4 stars is a compromise between me giving a 7/10 and fiancé giving a 9/10 haha. I should add that due to quarantine I had to get this order for takeout. They originally forgot the baklava pancakes side (which we paid extra for) so I had to go back and wait plus a car ride home meant my pancakes and the rest of the food sat for quite a bit. They did give me a free can of pop for the wait. He has the fried chicken with gravy and upgraded side of baklava pancakes. The fried chicken and gravy were super good! Surprisingly a lot of bfast places mess up the gravy but we liked it here. The baklava pancakes were a letdown to me. If they were advertised as cinnamon sugar walnut pancakes, they'd be spot on but baklava... they were not. As a Russian, we def would have preferred pistachio accents like classic, they were fine... just cinnamon sugar was all I got. I got the Denver omelette sub egg whites and upgraded to the lemon blueberry pancakes. The omelette was above average! And a good portion. I got the fruit side which had a good mixture of fruit! The pancakes were alright... good, not great. Good flavor cooked in but not as fluffy as I prefer personally. The mascarpone had completely melted and ran all down the side so I didn't get to taste it too much but that was due to the pickup status. I didn't really get lemon, just blueberry. This is a hidden little unsuspecting breakfast and lunch spot in some sort of business building. Tbh if you don't know it exists there you probably would pass right by. I found it on Yelp so that's how I knew to go. It was in a great location for us - right by the 'beach' which we went for a walk on prior to getting breakfast. I don't think they do reservations but it's large and we didn't have any wait on a Sunday morning. Service was quick and friendly. The menu is pretty big with all the typical things you'd find on a breakfast menu. Prices are superrr fair for Chicago too! No cocktails or alcohol offered here though, so no mimosas. We were fine with that though. Our food was yummy and portions were big. Mine included fresh fruit which I can sometimes be picky about, but, to my pleasant surprise the fruit was truly fresh and high quality. read more

Eggs Cafe was tolerable since there's never a long wait for a table even though the food was so-so until we found half a cricket in our water... If you still want to know about the food/service, here you go. Food: 3 Skirt Steak Skillet comes with the standard mix--steak, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and cheese. The steak was fairly tender for the price, but there were hardly any mushrooms. Athenian Frittata: I actually liked the idea of this dish, but the execution wasn't perfect. The mix of gyro with eggs, feta cheese, fresh and sun dried tomatoes, and cucumber sauce was fantastic. It was a rich savory dish but the tomatoes and cucumber sauce helped keep it from becoming too heavy and added a nice touch of acidity/lightness. It was a little undercooked though... California Panini: I didn't know paninis could be made poorly, but they proved me wrong. It was basically just a toasted sandwich, but it was soggy and cumbersome to eat. Service: Anywhere from a 0 to 5 Eggs Cafe is a rollercoaster of a dining experience in terms of the service. At the door, we are always largely ignored since there is no host and the servers are busy. We've waited anywhere from 5-15 minutes to get seated, all the while the servers running around avoid making eye contact with us. Eventually, once we're seated, our waiter is always super friendly, which makes up for the odd seating experience since it's still a shorter wait than any other brunch place in the area. My biggest complaint is when we found the cricket in our water. We were already mostly done with dinner before my friend noticed half a cricket in his water cup. We flagged down our server to let her know, and all she could muster was "I'm very sorry" a few times. She didn't offer to comp us or any form of consolation for what would be a very traumatizing experience for most diners. Ambiance: 2 Eggs Cafe is a fairly large restaurant with lots of seating. It isn't the cleanest restaurant, and most of the tables and seats are somewhat sticky or stained. For the most part, I don't think the shortcomings in service or cleanliness are really the staff's fault. It feels like they are fairly understaffed. read more

So, my husband hates a very popular breakfast restaurant at Water Tower Place thats always crowded. So we headed back to Eggs. I was a bit nervous about some recent negative reviews. We were seated right away a greeteed by our very competent server. They serve Philosophy coffee which was good. Because we are old (!) we almost always share a plate, especially at places with large portions like this. Ths always requires a bit of negotiation time :) We settled on the hercules omelet--with gyrons meat. onion, tomato, feta, topped with tzatziki sauce. Sides that come with are hars browns or fruit and toast or pancakes. Hubby ordered a side of bacon too. The omelet was really good and more than enough for both of us. The gyros meat was moist and tasty. The tzatziki was really good--almost as good as we've had in greece. When I told the server she said they make their own there. Hash browns were good--nicely browned and moist inside. Pancakes were fine, nothing special but fine. Service was good. It;s much quieter than other place--more locals than tourists, I would say. I usually don't like leaving bad reviews, but this place honestly just made me sad. There was just much potential and they didn't deliver. My order of Lemon Blueberry Stuffed Pancakes were small, it looked like there was a pancake missing on the plate. And what was worse is that the blueberry tasted like an artificial jolly rancher blueberry that stuck with my throughout the day in a most unpleasant way. Visually the pancakes weren't the most attractive, they both looked and tasted soggy (and as you know you eat with your eyes too...) My friend got the red velvet French Toast and she was happy with them they definitely looked better. But also they weren't something you can't get anywhere else. So it's not like it was uniquely good either. In terms of service, the people were curt and not welcoming, I'm not use to having server be so cold and I didn't like it. I've had this location bookmarked for so long and feel let down at how our experience went. I always tell people "brunch is an experience", and this unfortunately was not a good one. read more

Some items seemed to have a Mediterranean twist, which was interesting. The restaurant was also more spacious than I expected, and so all guests were seated with plenty of social distance between tables. The Philly steak omelette was huge and had lots of pieces of meat. It was very flavorful and was a perfect savory and protein-rich breakfast option. The side of fruit were very sweet and fresh too. The El Gordo skillet also tasted delicious, and had a slight Mexican food twist to the flavors. The dish came out hot and was packed with ingredients including an over and easy egg. The baklava pancakes actually tasted quite a bit like baklava, which was surprising because visually, it just looked like regular pancakes with walnuts in them. The pancake was supposed to be available in either buckwheat or multigrain option, but I was not given the option. The buckwheat pancakes tasted like your classic buckwheat pancakes. It tasted great, even when heated up the next day as leftovers! Overall Eggs Inc cafe was a decent choice especially for the price point + location + portion sizes and the fact that there was no wait even though we went there at 10:30am on Saturday morning. read more
