My lovely wife and I enjoyed a lowkey dinner at Stella's Diner on a pleasant Saturday evening in Lakeview. Yes this place is known more as a breakfast joint, but the massive menu has a full range of food options that should satisfy most tastes. The interior is pretty big, so noooobody was in the "back" room during dinnertime, but I imagine it's bustling during earlier mealtimes. As it was, the main room was fairly busy with dine-in customers as well as takeaway orders during our visit. Service was pleasant and efficient too. My order of Mom's Meatloaf was good, but the star of the show for me was the bowl of soup that came with the meal. The Sweet & Sour Cabbage soup was practically a meal in itself, with a tangy flavor reminiscent of soups I've enjoyed at a Polish buffet. The slices of meatloaf came with veggies, and I asked for hash brown-style potatoes to round out a solid meal. My love enjoyed her BLT burger topped with fried avocado wedges, now that's a nice touch. Her burger plate was rounded out with fries, cup of slaw and pickle spear. All in all, our meal at Stella's Diner was not too shabby. read more

My go-to diner in lakeview! They have everything a diner can offer, and they don't use too much grease in their cooking. The ingredients are always fresh and their menu can accommodate many different tastes. It is always busy, but with the attentive service a table will usually open within 20 minutes of arrival. Sometimes it does take a while for someone to pour us water after sitting down as it does get so busy, but the food is amazing and it is a nice local spot. read more

I love Stella's. I used to eat here on a weekly basis when I lived nearby. The service is always top notch, the food is delicious and the restaurant's atmosphere is great. Today I stopped in for lunch and got the buffalo chicken salad. It was served within 10 minutes and had a very generous helping of chicken. The others in my party got breakfast dishes (one omelette and the other scrambled eggs) and the portions were huge and looked delicious. Additionally, the waitress came by several times to ensure our waters were full and ask if we needed anything. Overall, great dining experience. I can't recommend Stella's highly enough. read more

Closer to 3.5 stars than 3 but nonetheless felt like pretty typical diner fare. Prices are pretty competitive and I did really enjoy the bustling ambiance here. I ordered the country style Benedict and my wife got the spinach/feta omelette. The Benny was okay; eggs were a bit overdone so not as runny as I would like. The sausage gravy was watery and overall didn't really impart a ton of flavor. Which is a shame because the hash browns are basically devoid of seasoning. The best part was definitely the generous helping of country style ham, which had great texture and brought the smokiness and savoriness this dish needed. I tried the omelette but also felt pretty meh about it; had to jazz it up with a lot of hot sauce. I would probably come back and try some other items but paying your bill also annoyed us as you pay on a Square reader so you don't get a physical copy of your bill till after. We didn't know there was a service charge and then the tip was calculated post-tax and post-service charge so the total ended up being inconceivably high for two entrees and coffee. I might come back to try the egg skillets but otherwise would rather try other diners. read more

I came here with two of my friends for my 19th birthday celebration. Not only was the service and food PERFECT, but the staff was unbelievably kind and joined us in our little 'Happy Birthday' song completely unprompted. We couldn't stop laughing and we had the best time ever. We were going a little late, and we didn't notice they were closing until we walked outside and they turned the lights off. Stella's Diner truly screams old school diner. I went there this morning for the first time and thought it was a great breakfast experience. The service was incredible and attentive. The food is your typical breakfast skillet- nothing ground breaking but still delicious. Portion sizes were also pretty good. I wish Yelp allowed 0.5 ratings because I'd give them a 3.5/5 because they were good but nothing about it stood out to where I'd go again. Didn't love the jarred jalapeños, but the chorizo wasn't overly greasy which was a win by itself. -I've had some really greasy ones in other diners. Service was good. Friendly. I'd never go out of my way to eat here, but if I lived in the neighborhood I might show up if I wanted a very casual sit-down breakfast. Grabbed a Butterfinger shake on my way out. Without a lot of overboard decorating, or servers in character, it's simply what it claims to be: an American diner. We had a tuna sandwich and a Reuben sandwich. Both were excellent. The accompanying fries were hot and crisp on the outside, moist in the center, and the cole slaw had just the right tang. There's also an extensive list of shakes and malts. Burned eggs, soggy potatoes, kraft cheese slices just thrown on top. 2 coffees and 2 omelettes was over 50 dollars, the food was genuinely disgusting and priced as luxury food. Came back for the second time this week for a dinner sandwich and again it was delicious! The Popeye grilled chicken with spinach, pimento, and mozzarella is sooo good! They warm the bread!! Solid is the one word to describe this adorable and bright diner on Broadway. First off, order their fries. If you want to just gain the best advice fast - boom you got it. This was my first time stopping into Stella's and I had to get the turkey bacon club; especially when you see three others in the joint order it while you're there. This sandwich was fresh and fast. The meat was flavorful and the bacon was cooked perfectly. The bread held up throughout the meal. My partner had the breakfast sandwich. Get the fried egg and add avocado! Our experience here was especially poor because of one specific incident. My partner, who has a very serious aversion to vinegar, asked if the garlic bread we got had any vinegar in it to which the waitress replied no. We were then served said garlic bread which was DRENCHED in vinegar. I don't mind vinegar and it was too much for even me to eat. We then asked another waiter to ask the chef if it has vinegar (though it was so obvious that it did) and he confirmed it does. It was very disappointing. The garlic bread would have been so tasty had it not been soaked in balsamic vinegar. Also, it was a shame the waitress didn't know the ingredients of the food she was serving. And, if she did not know, she should have asked somebody who would. I cannot speak for the rest of the food we had as I do not even remember it.
