Hadn't been here in years but I was downtown with my friend Connie celebrating my birthday and she chose it for a fun lunch. I loved my burger on sourdough and our server "Shoe" was excellent! Very attentive and friendly despite the obnoxiousness that they're known for. I had forgotten that all the burgers come with two patties. It's a lot of meat, but fresh and with your choice of cheese and several variations. Burgers and chicken tenders/sandwiches is basically it (a few salads) but if you like a good burger you should like it. And they sang to me on my birthday and comped the tiny sundae pictured. There were 3 birthdays in the hour we were there! It's a fun place.
We met up with our friends at a spot literally right around the corner from our hotel. We walked in fairly early in the morning, and people were already eating, laughing, and having a good time. It was the perfect place for us to link up, talk about what was happening later, and figure out what we were going to get into. Listen, the entire place was a total vibe! The staff wore their retro fits and mingled with the patrons. The bright neon, the teal and turquoise walls, and the hot pink accents were phenomenal. I absolutely loved the color scheme. The black-and-white tile definitely took it back to the diners from back in the heyday. Not my day, but somebody's day, okay?! And they put on a whole show! The staff started singing "Car Wash," and listen, it was a total vibe. They are loud, okay? They might sing right up on you and have you sitting there like, "Okayyyy!!!!" But it was never disrespectful. That is simply the aura and energy they bring, and we were here for it. Every time you go out for breakfast, you don't want just a meal, okay? We were out of town, and we wanted to enjoy ourselves. We wanted an experience, and that is exactly what this place gave us. It's fun. It's retro. It's loud. It's divey. If you want somewhere quiet, this might not be the place for you. But if you want great energy, fun outfits, singing, and a lively atmosphere, go ahead and pull up! We had an absolutely great time. Again, the outfits, the aura, and the energy made the whole experience!
Ed Debevic's is known in Chicago for their sassy wait staff and fast food. They will intentionally attempt to hurt your feelings in a very funny way. They ridiculed my clothes and food choices throughout our visit, but I still had a great time. The food is okay taste-wise, as the atmosphere is the star of the show. If you're used to polite and professional weight staff, be prepared to have your feelings, hurt here , and have fun at the same time.
Peachy was fantastic, absolute queen, and a great (sassy) server. Vibes inside are refreshing and smooth with old diner ambiance. Food was everything you need in a classic American breakfast (so good we didn't get a chance for a picture before it was gone). And the price was super reasonable right off Michigan avenue! Would return! Thanks Peachy!
EXCELLENT!! I stopped in to pick up my to-go order of biscuits while on vacation in Chicago, and what a great surprise this place was. I was greeted by an impeccably dressed chick from the 50's who had no time for me. She read me like the Tribune and dismissed me as if it was 3:00 on a Friday after a long week of school. I had no idea what I was walking into, as I had never heard of Debevic's, but was in the mood for biscuits. They were divine, by the way. Before long, a greaser showed up, and as with his lady friend, my presence was like a pebble in his shoe. These two made my day. They remained in character and had me cracking up. I wish we had an Ed Debevic's at home!
5 stars for the epic experience, a Chicago staple for almost 40 years, the theatrics, the banter, makes this a family fun occasion, Just came for the nachos, and some shakes!!! Bubbles was the best served! Lively, energetic, and crass.
Snarky waitress tossed paper hats at us, made some remark about being stuck serving old people. Loud rock music, servers dancing in the counter. Fried eggs, hash browns, bacon, bread pudding French toast, coffee, hot coco with little marshmallows on top.
I haven't been to Ed Debevic's in a looooooong time so it was time to have the boyfriend and my teenage daughter experience it. It has been so long since I have been there, I wasn't even aware that they have moved, haha. I made a reservation on Tock, but we were eating at an "off" time so if we hadn't, I don't think the wait would have been too bad. What I remember about the place as a kid was that it was sassy with straws flying through the air and that they have the "World's Smallest Sundae." Both things are still true, although the straws now are biodegradable! For being sassy, our waiter was funny, not mean, and still communicated clearly around when he had to go and dance. He let us know that he had to go dance, but he would refill our drinks as soon as he was done. The menu was larger than I remember as a kid and I believe most, if not all, of our party of 5 was happy with their choices. I thought theme restaurants could either have good food OR be fun, but Ed Debevic's is BOTH! My burger was juicy and I was satiated with the portion. The crinkle fries were crispy and delicious. My only comment on the burger would be that the bun was a little dry, but overall, I was happy with my choices. The DJ looked like he was having the time of his life and I swear that every time I looked at him, he had a different hat on his head! The restaurant was clean. The chairs were a little close to the tables around us, but not the end of the world. Would I rush back there for a burger? No, there are plenty of places in Chicagoland to eat those, but I would be happy to take anyone that would want to experience it again!

The decor was really cool with that classic diner feel, and of course the servers are loud, rude, and obnoxious in the funniest of ways. We got to see their performances, which was hilarious. Food was good as well! I had the Tex mex skillet, which was really good. My husband and I also split the French toast (also good).

For anyone's coming here: it is not your traditional diner. The servers are basically comedians who will make fun of you for anything. The atmosphere is set in 1950-1960 diner culture. And the dance breaks are great. I will definitely be back with my kid when I get a chance

The food was hot and good! The biscuit was really good. They have good music playing. The music was not too loud. Price was reasonable. Highly recommend.
I was looking for a bfast place that had soup and salad and found eds. Def wasnt expecting this type of restaurant, but so glad i stumbled on it! Great experience. My first time at one of these "rude service" type places. Fun way to end our trip! Was funny listening to him poke at some other tables. Retro style diner, serving comfy american food. I had the minestrone and a cobb salad with the house dressing, which was like a raspberry vinaigrette.

Saturday night, and we "scratched" two birds with one stone. While giving in to my husband's favorite, albeit decadent, food preferences - at least once a year - we also satisfied my need for new foodie adventures and found ourselves in downtown Chicago, at the Streeterville Ed Debevic's! The food was very good. Went "halfsies" so we wouldn't overdo it, trying both the indulgent Bacon Cheeseburger and the giant Bambino Dog (with a magnificent healthy topping of sauerkraut, spicy brown mustard, and pickles) along with a cluster of plain and cheese crinkle fries. To add a cold refreshing crunch to this comfort food attack, we also ordered the Cobb salad, which was very fresh and tasty! The service was great and the staff was hilarious. Schmullen was next level and will with ease, comically and consistently, "rip you a new one." Just a word to the wise, be very careful ordering 'that jumbo dog' if you're the faint of heart or type to embarrass easily, as he will joyfully and mischievously announce your preference for a 'giant wiener' to the entire restaurant! Consider yourself officially warned! Lol The 60's Diner Decor and the music set the stage and the sassy, snarky, antagonistic staff delivered the performance - and I loved it!! Sassy and classy at the same time. Our family is heading out from spring break in the windy city. Ed Debevic's is a great last stop. Food is good, service on point and our Server "B Rat " was amazing!! She had an understudy whom I cannot remember her name. I forgot all about this spot! My friend and I decided to go and had such a fun time. Parking is street parking, so give yourself a little extra time to find a spot. The breakfast was solid and the entertainment made the whole experience even better. It was my first time visiting since they moved to the new location, and it definitely didn't disappoint. Man the service sucks here. I guess you get what you come for. Our server did a good job of not caring about us which is the idea behind Ed Debevic's. The problem is they don't have the quality in the food to back up their service. We all had a good time but most everyone in our party was disappointed in the food. Have to share my experience tonight-- I'm originally from Detroit but I love me some Chicago and I used to always bring friends here so they get this fun experience. Time has moved Eds from its original spot but this one is great! I want to thanks Eddie our server tonight for a great experience- I was a bit hesitant to bring my son who has autism to Ed Debevics because you never really know how they might take a joke, but my kid has a great sense of humor and it turned out to be a great memory made! Eddie was pretty quick to modulate and he "got it" situationally pretty quickly. Loved the food, had a club sandwich and my son had 2 hot dogs- think we misjudged the size because one would have been enough. The chocolate milk shake was phenomenal and my son loved the smallest sundae in the world- he loved the joke. Thanks Eddie you're great at what you do! read more

This place was literally a block away from our hotel. Can't remember if I was here years ago or merely only heard about it, so off we came for breakfast. Come here if you want to be verbally harassed (lovingly and jokingly). Ginger was our server and she could dish it out like the best of them!! My husband ordered the blueberry pancakes and they were fresh, light and very tasty. He ate then without syrup as they didn't have sugarless syrup ( sounds contradictory but he is on a restricted diet). I got something I generally wouldn't because I generally go for eggs, but it sounded so good: banana bread pudding French toast, served with fresh strawberries, blueberries and home made whipped cream. I took half of it with me.. Lots of fun, but our only complaint was it took 20 minutes or so for our food to arrive. And please carry sugar free syrup! Ed Debevic's is nostalgic. Such a fun spot for a fun time. The vibe is immaculate. One of a kind. Bringing kids here is a funny experience. I came as a kid & always remember having a blast. Fries were really good, and the sundae is actually tiny haha but still fun and good. We had come in after already having lunch recently, but wanted to still have the experience of coming here, so we just got those few things. Glad we came! Dean was our server & he was a good time. Kitty was our saucy server and she was everything an Ed Debevic's server should be: funny, sassy and friendly (but not too friendly). We had the chocolate shakes, excellent crinkle cut fries, burgers and Momma's meatloaf sandwich. The atmosphere is very fun and they did a good job replicating the old place in Wells St. the servers danced to KC And The Sunshine Band. Next time we're bringing the grand kids! read more
Came here with our large group from out of town for lunch. We had a good amount of space set aside for us. The staff were amazing and snarky which made it fun for all of the teenagers that were with us. Our food was good and the staff highly entertaining. This location is very fun and I'll certainly be back again if in the area. read more

Roxie is just amazing, if you have a dry sense of humor and aren't lame you will love this restaurant. the food is great the servers are so entertaining and the vibe is perfect. i will 100% will return. just for roxie and ziggy honestly i would return and the host was particularly sweet. read more
