Great food. Amazing waitress. She was funny rude and efficient. Definitely a Chicago staple.

It has been 20 years since I've been here and was reminiscing about how the employees talked to the customers. My son's girlfriend and my wife were afraid to be yelled at, but my oldest son was ready for the harshness. Overall my Cobb salad was good and was a large portion. My son said his chili with pasta was good and very filling. Our server acted annoyed but wasn't too over the top. Food prices were what I was expecting for the area and our bill was close to $100 for 5 people. read more

We had a great experience here! We took our young kids and they enjoyed the music, dancing, silly waiter, and milkshakes. Honestly, I was so pleasantly surprised by how good the cheeseburger was. I was not expecting much since I figured this restaurant would be more about the experience, but it was a great burger. I had the Southwest chicken salad which was also good, but would definitely get the burger next time instead. 4 stars instead of 5 because we could of been checked on a little more as far as bringing more water and a little faster with the check. But I give the staff a lot of credit, this place was busy and they were flying around. Definitely get a reservation. read more

The experience was amazing and fun, waiters stayed in character very well. The food was great! I got their "grown up" grilled cheese and the portions filled me up pretty well. One thing I feel I should comment on is the waiter kept forgetting to bring things like a drink, condiments, etc which wasn't a huge deal, im not sure if this was just to stay in character or not. We were also told a 20 minute wait but ended up waiting almost an hour read more

Why would you want to go to a place that has lack luster food and service where they insult you. They don't even try to be clever about it. They just are flat out mean and insulting and I choose to spend my money elsewhere. read more

Terrible. They told us 30 minutes for a wait. We wait an hour and 10 minutes. They told us we were the table but watched them seat several other tables in front of us. Very disappointed read more

Took my son and grandson to Eddeb Vic's last night I ordered scrambled eggs with grilled onions buy toast, hashbrowns, and bacon. Add send the bacon back cause it wasn't burnt like I asked for the waiter was a riot. He's very funny. He kept playing with us. We put on the Ed Debevic hats Mohamed Ruben sandwich Wood she loved my son had chili with all kinds of stuff in it and my grandson had a hamburger everybody thought. Their food was good and I had coffee with my eggs which was good so it's an easy five star. read more

The experience only sucked because Dad (our server) wanted it to :) fun lighting, music, dancing, and vibes - I can see why tourists would be intrigued to come here! While I understand that a veggie burger is not the classic item to order off the menu, it was so bad that I just cannot rank it higher. The veggie burger was served with 0 toppings and was a weird texture and flavor - cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and/or sauce probably would've helped. The fries were decent and the mini ice cream was cute. read more

We came to Ed Debevics on family vacation for some fun over lunch. They were dancing when we got there which was an exciting welcome to the restaurant and my kids enjoyed it. I thought there would be more of that but that was the only performance we saw during lunch. Our waiter was fun interacting with the kids and joking about how we ordered a million phosphates. The phosphates we were really looking forward to but they weren't cold at all which was sad on a really hot day. My burger and fries were pretty decent and it was a large portion. My daughter did leave sad however when the jokes got a little personal for a 7 year old. We got a check calling her baby big head which hurt her feelings on an otherwise fun experience. read more

First of all, The Swan, i love you. Second of all, this place is just as nostalgic as it has always been. The theme is on point and the food was actually good which I didn't really expect from a theme restaurant. They did a funny dance line also while we ate and it was fun to be sat right under them while doing it. The food is a little on the pricey side but i'd say worth it. Definitely a good place for a funny meal and I loved the photo booth. Just remember to eat, drink, and leave! read more

Not funny. Anyone can take a joke but when its time to actually get your food, or a refill, or the bill, or a to-go box.. its time to actually get some work done. Our server wasnt funny at all, just playing the rude card; if thats what this place is im not coming back. Unfortunate cause i would comeback for the food, the whole act is ridiculous, not funny, not original, just annoying. Never going back or recommending. read more

Fun and entertaining place with good breakfast food. Service was provided with an attitude which is the overall vibe of this 50s diner. Our waiter served it up with the appropriate frown and remarks. We also enjoyed the DJ who was rocking to all the tunes he was 'spinning'. And the dancing to YMCA was well done! read more

We walked by here when visiting Chicago with my family and stopped in for some traditional American / casual breakfast. I had no idea what the schtick was beforehand (i.e., lots of sass and mild verbal abuse). However, it was quite a fun experience depending on your family dynamic. It can get loud though and every few minutes, the servers all get up and dance. We were very entertained. The service is rude but that's their goal so that's probably a compliment! The food was just alright though which is why I am going with 3 stars. read more

Had a fun experience at the Chicago location, we took my nephews for our first time for breakfast on a Saturday we did make a reservation but didn't need it. The quick witted servers made the kids laugh so we enjoyed our time. Food is ok, but you go for the experience. We wished the staff would have sang and danced but I don't think it was busy enough for that. The French toast special was delicious! read more

When the hotel we're staying at is right next door of course we have to stop by for dinner. I took my kids by and we all enjoyed it.y kids ordered grilled cheese and chicken tender baskets and drank root beer. I ordered a cheeseburger with a turkey patty and a coleslaw instead of fries. Our total was $116 since gratuity was added since there was 6 of us. We were entertained by the staff and we were well taken care of with refills and our food came out fast as well. The decorations were very 50s and it was such a vibe. Our server was Babs and she did an amazing job of keeping my rowdy crowd happy! read more

I am from Chicago and have been coming to Ed Debevic's for many years with my family. Every visit is a highlight -- we love the humor, the banter, and the playful roasting that makes this place unique. We fully understand the style here and always embrace it. This time, however, our server, listed on the receipt as "Jane calamity H", turned what should have been lighthearted fun into something hostile and uncomfortable. While Jane was dancing on stage, my son jokingly gestured that I needed a Pepsi refill -- something he would never do in a regular restaurant but has always done here as part of the back-and-forth. Out of nowhere, Jane stepped onto our table, took my drink, and yelled at him, "IT'S MY JOB TO BE MEAN, NOT YOURS!" We have this first yelling on video. She then slammed the cup down at the server station and, a few minutes later, came back and broke character entirely. In a serious tone, she said, "This is your real server talking and not in character. Before coming back to your table, I was about to throw up in the bathroom, and then I came out here to dance for you. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE MY JOB AWAY FROM ME. I DO THE INSULTS." As a mother, watching a server yell at my son like this in front of me was completely uncalled for. We all understand and respect the Ed Debevic's style, but this was not playful -- it was aggressive, personal, and unprofessional. The rest of the staff and the manager were great, but this behavior from Jane ruined the experience. I have always looked forward to returning here, but after this, I honestly don't see us coming back. read more

If Sass Was a Side Dish, B.Rat Served Seconds. Walking into Ed Debevic's is like willingly stepping into a roast session... but with milkshakes. I knew what I was signing up for, but I was not emotionally prepared for our waitress, the legendary **B. Rat** (yes, that's her name, and no, I didn't dare ask what the B stands for). From the moment she stomped up to our table and said, *"What do you want? Make it quick, I've got actual important people to ignore,"* I knew we were in good hands. Or at least sarcastic ones. She tossed our menus down like she was dealing shady cards in a back alley, rolled her eyes so hard they nearly left orbit, and somehow still made us feel like royalty... the kind of royalty no one respects, but still. The food? Delicious. The service? Horrible in the most DELIGHTFUL way possible. B.Rat roasted us, ignored us, insulted us, told us our choices were questionable (accurate), and then danced on the counter like the national treasure she is. By the time we left, we'd been verbally assaulted, emotionally humbled, and spiritually nourished. Honestly? 10/10. Would let B.Rat bully me again. read more

My husband really wanted to go back to this restaurant since it had been 20+ years for him. My oldest son was anxiously awaiting to be harassed by our server. His girlfriend and I on the other hand were somewhat skeptical because we do not do well with confrontation Lol. I guess I had in my mind that it was gonna be a lot worse than it actually was because our server was kind of a smart ass, but not horribly. I opted for the grilled cheese with bacon and a side salad. My sandwich was pretty good but nothing spectacular. I could have used another slice of cheese or a few different combinations of cheese to make it stand out more. I know my son enjoyed his chicken sandwich and fries because it was gone quickly. My husband enjoyed his salad, and my oldest son enjoyed his chill with pasta included. Definitely an older building, but surprisingly everything was clean and pretty well maintained. Entertaining atmosphere to watch and listen to but nothing spectacular in my opinion. read more

We stumbled on this place in route to the Ice Cream Museum. It's schtick is retro atmosphere where they treat you badly (in a funny way). If you have thin skin- don't come here. We enjoyed the banter and giving as well as we were getting. We had the American and Hippee skillets. Both were good. Generous helping of hashbrowns as the base with the goodies on top laced together with a good amount of cheese. The biscuit was also tasty (they toast it). They also have alcohol. Service was expeditious and we had some good laughs. read more

I have to tell you, I used to frequent the Ed Debevics in Phoenix back in the 80's. Loved it! It's great to see that the tradition keeps doing! Had an amazing late lunch and STASH was my server! He did a great job of trying to humiliate me(if you've never been you need to go so you'll understand). He did a fantastic job! Deserves a pay raise...off his arse and on to his feet! The food was fine and the mimosas were delicious but mid; but they're not bottomless. They limit you at four mimosas and they limit you because you are gay.. we spoke to the manager and apparently it's a problem. It's at their discretion. We spent $90 on two people with a $20 tip plus $20 in parking and we just wanted to have a lovely morning. Unfortunately, bottomless is not bottomless. It starts at four minimum. On top of that, it's a part of the aesthetic to treat you like crap from the second you walk in. it's so unfortunate, because we loved it for the first 10 minutes, but we won't be coming back; and honestly, we will highly recommend you never show up here. our point is that we spent $90 and they were homophobic about the fact that we came in for bottomless mimosas and they only gave us four. read more

Popped into Ed Debevic's for a birthday lunch and it was like swinging back into the '50s, in the best way possible! As expected, the staff was sassy but swell--queens clad in '50s style with polka dots and saddle shoes, guys looking like greasers--and quirky attitude to boot. A total highlight was their dance performance midway through lunch--it's such a fun place! At all times, the atmosphere was buzzing away with great oldies music, party lights and laughter. Food-wise, Ed's embraces the traditional. I ordered the Chickadee, a breaded chicken breast with crunchy pickles and mayo, plus crinkle fries. Yum! Drink choices included cherry shots for your pop, and even Green River. They also sang to my young niece, and gave her one of their signature "world's tiniest sundaes" with a candle in it. She was delighted, and her only real complaint was that she expected the waitress to be "meaner." Thanks to Ed's for an excellent experience!! read more

Visited on a Monday morning for my birthday breakfast. My husband chose the spot and neither of us knew what to expect, but we were both pleased with the decision. I loved the sarcastic attitudes of the waiters, which was light and fun and not over the top. They even performed a sarcastic filled dance. We ordered water and mimosas. For my meal I ordered The Hippie skillet with no cheese and a biscuit. My husband ordered the Tex Mex skillet with a biscuit. Food came out pretty quickly and the serving size was a nice proportion, we had to get a to-go box. Food was good and seasoned well. Highly recommend visiting for some light hearted fun as well as some good food. read more

70% of tables open, many not bussed, on a Sunday afternoon. 20 minute wait for a party of 1. No thanks.

We did not know anything about this place when we walked in. We just looked for a breakfast place close to our hotel. After about 2 mins we realized it was one of those "mean and rude" restaurants. Smokestack was very fun, food was solid, fried cheese curds were especially good! Be prepared for a silly atmosphere.

Not Quite What I Expected, But Still Fun I visited Ed Debevic's with a group of seven, and while we had a good time overall, there were a few things that didn't quite live up to expectations. We had a reservation and were seated right away, which was great. It was very busy around 11 AM, so I understand some delay, but it took about 10 minutes just to get water. We ordered the Bottomless Mimosas (spoiler: there is a bottom). For a table of seven, we were only given one pitcher at a time, and over the course of 90 minutes, we received three pitchers total -- so about three drinks per person. Not terrible, but definitely not what we expected from a "bottomless" offering. The servers are advertised as "sassy," but the vibe felt more rude than playful. I've been to places like Dick's Last Resort and enjoy that kind of humor, but here it felt a little mean-spirited at times. One moment that stood out was when my driver's license was thrown back at me -- it crossed a line for me. The atmosphere is definitely high energy, with performances about every 45 minutes, which added to the fun. However, the music and DJ volume were extremely loud -- a little too much for a brunch setting. Lowering the volume slightly would make conversations a lot easier without killing the vibe. Food-wise, it was decent for the price, though nothing particularly memorable. Overall, it was a fun outing with friends, but I wouldn't go in expecting great service or a relaxing meal. Go for the show, the laughs, and the kitsch -- just know what you're signing up for. read more
