Although I have mixed feelings about the hotel stay, the bistro is pretty decent. We used a voucher from the hotel to get some end of the night cocktails. We came here on a Saturday morning before heading out to explore Chicago. We were seated quickly given that it was before 8am and the restaurant only had one other party at the time. I wanted the American breakfast, but I wanted to substitute the toast for one pancake. The server told me I couldn't do that before they only serve pancakes as a set of three and there were no exceptions. Instead I got the sausage scramble. The potatoes were tasty and cooked well. The eggs with the cheese in the scramble was good. The sausage within the scramble was fine, but it should have been cooked longer to make the sausage darker and more crispy. Stopped here for lunch during Pokémon Go Fest. Surprisingly there was no wait. Service was fast. We enjoyed the beautiful patio. Food was fabulous! The homemade steak sauce was the BOMB. Great restaurant with a nice patio and super close to Soldier Field! Even though our server was the only one for the entire patio, he was attentive and really good at this job. I think what made this work was that other people brought the food out from the kitchen so that allowed him to focus on the customers which was a good strategy! The burger was juicy and very tasty! I recently visited your restaurant and was disappointed by the interaction I had with a staff member whom I later learned is the general manager. From the moment we arrived, the communication felt dismissive and unwelcoming. Questions were answered curtly, and the overall tone made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. While I understand that restaurants can be busy and stressful environments, basic professionalism and courtesy are important parts of the dining experience. What surprised me most was learning afterward that this individual is the general manager. Leadership sets the standard for customer service, and the interaction I experienced did not reflect the level of hospitality I would expect from someone in that position. The food and atmosphere looked enjoyable, which makes this feedback especially disappointing to share. As a result, of the first impression we didn't eat at your restaurant. We were walking and saw that they had a happy hour menu on Sunday so we popped in. The staff was really nice and welcoming. We ordered drinks and really liked them. I got i think the lakeside punch which was BOMB! Then we ordered the corn & cheddar fritters and yall they were really yummy. We didn't see any pics of them on here so were kinda skeptical but pleasantly impressed. The fries were fresh and so crispy. The salad was good and my friend said her pasta was tasty. I came here with some friends to enjoy their HH specials. We didn't make a reservation but asked if we can be seated by the window where there were booths available. This was on a Thursday around 5pm and the place was basically empty except for 2 tables that were occupied by 2-4 people each. The server said no because they're reserved and that high tops were the only option so I went on open table and made a reservation. I told him I made a reservation and he was able to seat us at a booth. I thought this was a bit ridiculous because they clearly had a ton of empty tables and it took an extra step to get to the same result. The ambiance is nice if people wanted to come here and chill. Basic food that you can't really mess up on. We had a couple rounds of drinks and each ordered a burger plus 2 fries. The price is decent for the amount of food you get in this economy. Might come back for HH, but other than that I don't see myself paying full price since service nor food were top notch. read more

Chicago The restaurant is located at street level in Le Meridian Essex Chicago hotel. It's bright, holiday shiny and feels sleek and inviting. We sat at the window and loved the street view. Everything feels new and fresh here which makes me think they have done a recent renovation. We were served professionally and in a friendly way. Chicago is not exactly a hub of smiles and high-level customer service n the winter but our waiter was exceptionally warm and welcoming. Coffee came quick with refills when needed. We ordered off a brunch type menu and had the sausage scramble and the croissant breakfast sandwich. Both came with twice-"baked home fries which were ok but nothing to put in your recipe book. I'd say the food was like 3.5 stars, ambience was 4 stars but the service was 5 stars which weighed heavily in my review. Great ambience. Zakai and frank were the best people I've ever come across. So accommodating that when I said I didn't know what I wanted not only did they bring perfect cocktails.the slow and snow tonic and the spiced pear spritz. Very cute, inviting spot but a little underwhelming/disappointing in terms of delivery/flavor. I stopped by here for breakfast before heading to a conference and was immediately drawn in by the light/bright/clean decor. It was still pretty early, about 8am, and I sat at the bar next to a couple other patrons. I ordered a black coffee and decided ultimately on the avocado toast with fruit instead of breakfast potatoes. The bartender was friendly and prompt and my plate came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, it was just really bland and lacking in flavor. I salt/peppered it and also asked for some hot sauce which they fortunately had. But overall it just missed the mark for me. In retrospect, I wish I had gone with one of the benedicts (they had one with salmon I was eyeing). Price wise too, $30 (after tax/tip) for a slice of toast and coffee is really pushing it in my opinion, especially when the flavor is just missing. Maybe breakfast/brunch isn't the specialty here. Really? 100 nights a year at Marriott and Restaurant tied to the hotel more than half empty wants a breakfast reservation. Skip this place. Even if it is free from your Marriott loyalty perks. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and after a brief wait we (2) were seated on the patio. The wait was due to the server on the patio being behind and giving him a chance to catch up. Anywho! Once seated we were actually served by the hostess that sat us, never got her name but she was sweet. I ordered a hot ginger tea but I had to ask for milk & sugar. I ordered the mushroom and leek scramble which came with breakfast potatoes but asked for a side of bacon as well. We asked for chewy, not crispy as in burnt but it was dang near raw, I ate the pieces that were in fact cooked but it just wasn't great bacon. The scramble was delicious and seasoned well! As were the potatoes but a few pieces were undercooked. Towards the end of our meal, I notice the cobwebs less that foot from my head and then noticed they were all over. You'll really should be cleaning this patio every night. The restroom was clean and well stocked. read more

The food was very mediocre here. I got the Eggs Benedict with the smoked salmon and it was just ok. The handmade biscuit was small and really not super moist. The other person in my party got a scramble and was surprised that it was just eggs scrambled with a side of potatoes. Just not what we expected. The nice thing was service and the ambiance. They just need to figure out the cooking. Probably would only return if it was my only option. There are a lot of good brunch places nearby that I'd pick instead. read more

Or the delicious chicken sausage, bacon, potatoes and homemade biscuits... the scrambled eggs were the best I've ever had in all my years of eating breakfast at a restaurant. And mind you, I've eaten plenty of very delicious eggs at a good number of very nice spots for breakfast. I can only imagine how delicious lunch and dinner must be at the Grant Bistro is. My daughter found Grant Park Bistro during a late-night search for dinner. The place was at half capacity with the bar area having most of the patrons. We asked to be seated further back where it was quieter. We ordered the Steak Salad and Pesto Fettuccini. Probably the best steak salad I've had -- perfectly cooked and dressed. I really liked the crispy potato cubes, onion strings and green beans. My daughter loved her Pesto Fettuccini with the grilled bread. Portions were perfect. Price point was reasonable. Service however was really slow. Maybe it was the late hour, but no one checked on us after our food came out and our drinks were never refilled. They were however very quick in bringing the check. When we left, the hostess was busy chatting with some guy and didn't notice us trying to use the locked revolving door to exit. We eventually figured out to use the small side door. Minus a star for all that. We may be back for the food. Hopefully the service will be better. read more

This was a pleasantly surprising find. We were tired and exhausted and didn't feel like walking anywhere. So we wound here, which was exactly next door to our hotel (Hilton Chicago). We were seated promptly, even though they seemed a little crowded. And we even got a patio table. The patio area is cute and great for people watching. Our server was very friendly and attentive. As a resident of the DMV, I can get a lil snobbish when it comes to seafood; nobody does it like us back home. Or so I thought. This Lake Benedict from Grant Park Bistro is arguably one of the best salmon Benedict's I've had in my entire life. The salmon was perfectly smoked, the poached egg was a tad firmer than what I'm used to (in such a positive way that I now want all my poached eggs to take this level of firmness), and the hollandaise sauce was perfect. I almost always switch out home fries for french fries, and these fries were so good that I didn't need a sauce. So whenever I find myself back in Chicago, I'll certainly be back at Grant Street. read more
