This is inside the Marriott Marquis in downtown Chicago. As soon as we checked into the hotel, we decided to go downstairs and get some food to eat. I ended up getting a grilled cheese sandwich and my date got the burnt pork belly ends. I believe it was called. We ate there about midday on a Monday. It wasn't too busy as most people hadn't gotten in for the huge convention yet for Ace Hardware. The tomato soup was very delicious. I wanted croutons and they had some sort of croutons, but they were a little different than when I was used to. They only have Pepsi products and I'm more of a Coke girl. On her last night there we returned there as well for dinner. I will post pictures of the food. My date had the burger which he said was super delicious and it was very big and I had the chicken Caesar salad, which was pretty good. The bar was very bustling with a lot of business folks. It was so convenient just to walk downstairs and go have a meal and not worry about going anywhere on our last night since we had early flights the next morning. The only thing I had an issue with was the fact that our waitress had left for the evening and did not notify us and we sat there for a bit before we got a check and I was told that she had given her duties to another server which we had no idea . Poor communication on her part. We did have margaritas the first time we got there and they were pretty delicious. The truffle fries were good as well. Our first server was pretty attentive, but that might've been because it was not quite busy. The first time we went. If I was to stay in that hotel again, I would stop by for some food. read more

We were able to get seated here as a party of 4 without a reservation on a weekend which was nice. The restaurant is in the hotel and there's lots of tables. View is also decent with big windows and good natural lighting. To start we got the fries and Brussel sprouts. Both were super good. The brussel sprouts came with jalapeños in it which went well together. I love that there are so many vegetarian options here. I got the mushroom steak which was a cool unique dish. The gravy it comes in was yummy. For sides I got the Mac and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes which were both delicious. I got the mule cocktail twice and it was so good I would definitely get it again. Could barely taste the alcohol. For dessert we got the strawberry tres leches which is again a unique dish and a very vibrant color. The only thing I'd say is that the service here wasn't too good. They also brought out our bill prematurely when we weren't done ordering more food and drinks. read more

This review is for a private event that I held at Woven + Bound in coordination with attendance at a conference. Overall, it was an extremely positive experience. COST Compared to the other restaurants offering private event space in the area, W+B's pricing was comparable or better. FOOD There were a variety of options that we could choose from, including passed hors d'oeuvres, stations, etc. There were also different tiers of alcohol offerings. The stations were packaged as sets, but once we asked, W+B was more than happy to mix and match across sets so that we could get exactly the food we wanted. We wound up having more people than we anticipated, but the food was generous enough that we had plenty. People raved about the sliders in particular. STAFF The team was great to work with and very communicative, both before and during the event. When I expressed my concern the day-of that we might wind up with more guest than anticipated and worried that we'd run out of food, Eileen (food & beverage manager) assured me that they would be able to push out more as needed. During the event, Candace (food & beverage manager) was wonderful about checking in (gently, unobtrusively) to see if we needed anything. Eljay was our server during the event and made sure everyone always had their beverage of choice. SPACE We opted for a roped off event, aka it was not a private room, but was in a roped-off corner of the restaurant near the front. This was actually ideal, as it made it really easy for folks to find our event, especially if they had forgotten about it and were just headed to W+B for a drink with a friend/colleague. The team also put a small sign by the host stand so it was easy for people to know they were in the right place. OVERALL The Marriott team provided a high level of service and made our event go smoothly and successfully. It's making me think that I should consider in-hotel restaurants as our first choice for future Marriott-based conferences. read more

It's a casual modern environment with lots of windows for people watching. I had the grilled Mushroom steak. The first time I was here, and it was very yummy and flavorful. Breakfast here was convienent but pretty pricey. They have some a la carte options or a buffet which end up almost being the same price. The lattes I got were great and the buffet options were plentiful but mediocre. The a la carte menu had a fancy avocado toast which was okay but nothing too outstanding. The breakfast BLT was very good but a bit over the top. it was very hard to eat as an actual sandwhich. The gelato was very good for a late night snack! Creamy and delicious. It is quite frustrating that a check cannot be split more than 4 ways here especially since it's a hotel at a huge conference center with people visiting from many different places. read more

Quite good spread of eggs, egg whites, sausage and bacon, assorted fruit, pastries and oatmeal. Also an omelette station. Quite filling, and choices for all of us who are a little picky :) Good lunch. Small many, ranging from burgers and salads to Asian-inspired food. I chose the salmon 'small plate', which was a delightful and filling cold dish. My favorite of all their menus. Overall, a solid restaurant. Also, full bar on site. read more

Located next to the McCormic Place which is a Convention Centre, this restaurant is attached to Marriot Marquis. Considering the proximity to the convention center, prices can be expected to be higher than normal, but comparatively, options for food were good though limited. We came here for lunch and got the Portobello sandwich, hurricane sprouts, potato wedges and coffee. The sandwich was pretty good with the mushrooms being a big part of it, the sprouts was an interesting item, it was kind of barbecue roasted with a little cream on top, was nice. The wedges had the right spice and complimented well. A decent place for lunch around the area. read more

The biggest take away from this experience is not to let the ambiance fool you! I mean, the ambiance is wonderful. It's a very social scene with great lighting, great music playing, and nice views. However, the menu options are slight, and the food itself is not very tasty. I had the Smokey Little Gems salad with a side of bistro steak... The steak is cooked at a perfect medium, I'll give them that, but there is absolutely no seasoning on it. And the salad is drenched in dressing making the lettuce look and feel wilted. Too tired to venture out in the cold after a long day watching of volleyball games back to back, we ate here for lunch and dinner over the course of three days. The sticky wings were a constant favorite. The fillet was also a crowd pleaser. I ordered a spinach salad once and that's all it really was, a plate of spinach leaves with a few dots of Brie and a couple of dry shrimps. I did enjoy the portobello sandwich and classic burger. W+B gets 3 stars from me... 4 for the drinks and food, 2 for the service. During my stay at the Marriott Marquis Chicago, where this restaurant is located, I came here about 3 times. It's your typical overpriced, upscale hotel eatery. They have some of the best cocktails I've ever tasted, and the food is stellar too. Don't come here if you're in any sort of rush, though. I should have known to go somewhere else throughout this week-long convention. My colleagues and I had one hour to kill before our first session, and it took 40 minutes from the time we were seated to the time we got our food. My best experience was just sitting at the bar and ordering a cocktail while getting work done on my laptop. Mind you, the restaurant is super packed, and sometimes it's tough to get a seat. However, it's disconcerting to see a congregation of staff in the middle of the restaurant, seemingly not working. Maybe it's just the kitchen and bar that are always backed up. I got whiskey neat, and that alone took 20 minutes. It also took awhile to get a cocktail while sitting at the empty bar. I'm usually patient, and perhaps I was a little less so because I was stressed during convention week. If you do have time, however, order the rabbit pappardelle and the last stop cocktail. I think that's what the drink is called, at least. I had so many of them. Actually all the cocktails and food items were good, from the salads to the fries. I was just annoyed at how long everything took to arrive. That and a few wait staff members seemed super new and either got our bill wrong or were overworked. read more

My wife and I tried Woven + Bound prior to a concert at Soldier Field. The walk over from the parking lot was 15-20 minutes. The dining room is a nice setting with plenty of windows and high ceilings. I had two appetizers for my meal - the Hurricane Brussels Sprouts and Lobster Poutine. This place was beautiful, but we came on an extremely busy night. The entire place was packed, and there seemed to be only one waitress. She was sweet but incredibly stressed. There were multiple busers and runners, but they continued to note that the kitchen was "very confused tonight." We waited well over 20 minutes for drinks. Our appetizers came out within a reasonable amount of time. The charcuterie board and Brussel sprouts were fantastic. Many in my party ordered burgers and were told that all burgers were made medium well. I ordered the little gem salad for the "moody Bleu cheese," it was almost a Romain wedge salad. It is crusted with crunchy corn flakes and accompanied with delicious blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and a few banana slices. Service was spot on with a weird exception--I kept losing my silverware. I had no knife and had to ask for one. Then, the server took my spoon when I needed it to stir my coffee. Bussing is one thing, this was too much, albeit humorous for me. The prices were higher than expected. I spent $26 on French toast and coffee that I wouldn't expect to go for more than $15-18, at most. Lastly, I am not sure why this place was empty. I ate dinner here three times during my stay and I was never disappointed. I had to order the brook trout first because I can't remember the last time I'd seen it on a menu. It comes out as a whole fish, not just a fillet. The fennel and thyme glaze was great, I just wish there was more of it. The lentils were bland and I didn't eat more than a couple fork fulls. The roasted grapes were just weird. The roasted cauliflower was good and I don't even like cauliflower. The whole fish and cauliflower were enough to fill me up. The next night I had the braised rabbit pasta. I've made braised rabbit at home, but again, it's not often you see rabbit on a restaurant menu. The pasta was piled high. I'm not sure what kind of mushrooms were used or how they were cooked, but every bite with a mushroom was especially amazing. The dish was absolutely delicious and beautifully plated with edible flowers as the finishing touch. I definitely recommend this dish. I finished off my dining experience here with the strip steak. The horseradish soubise (sauce) is what sold me on ordering it and I wasn't disappointed. It was both cooked and seasoned perfectly. The potatoes were buttery and delicious. The roasted onion was literally just one medium onion ring caramelized, but it could have been left off completely and I still would have been happy with the dish. The guy sitting next to me had the burger twice and said it was amazing both times. Many people have complained about the prices here. I supposed for a hotel restaurant the prices are higher than most, but this hotel is nicer than most. And I'm not sure where else you can order brook trout or rabbit for a cheaper price. Stayed at the Marriott Marquis Hotel for a wedding. The next morning (6/19/22), my friends and I were strolling around the lobby area to look for somewhere to eat. Didn't realize the communal part of the hotel (by the coffee shop) blended in with the actual restaurant. We ended up walking further into the restaurant without realizing (still half awake) and found a buffet area towards the back of the restaurant. We were hungry and tired, so we said "Why not?", and proceeded to serve ourselves to the buffet. At that exact moment, the hostess hunts us down only to immediately scream and berate us for not checking in at the host stand prior to entering the restaurant. She scolds us saying we have to check in with her in order to get seated. She also accuses us of being aware, seeing her at the host stand, and ignoring her and the sign that says to check in with the host first. 1. We were roaming around and walking very slowly, clearly clueless as to where we're suppose to go. 2. She did not have to immediately accuse us and scream at us in front of everyone. How embarrassing for a 50-something-year-old woman. Have some grace. Even the other guests were stunned and felt bad for us (based on their facial expressions). 3. If you work in the service industry (which I have), at least provide some hospitality and good customer service - ask us if we're lost or need some assistance in finding what we're looking for. 4. We're convinced she watched us enter from the beginning, only to scold us at the right moment, right when we're about to reach for the buffet. She then storms off and asks us, from across the restaurant, if we would still like to dine here. We were so shook and felt bad that we had already picked up the plates to serve ourselves, so we accepted to dine-in. She slams down the menus at a table and says, "HERE, YOU'LL BE SITTING HERE." Once we get back to the table, we then realize the buffet option was $28!!!! Not worth it at all given the mediocre food options, nonetheless the horrible service. Definitely WILL NOT be dining here EVER AGAIN. You can bet I will be telling everyone about my experience here. If you ever choose to dine here, BEWARE of the hostess and service in general. And make sure to read all the signs and god forbid you don't check in with the host first!!!!! read more

I have to say I'm a sucker for great hotel restaurants. If you can marry convenience, quality food, and a great atmosphere together you've a winning combo. Most places fail....woven and bound excels. I had breakfast for a party of 7 and they were able to accommodate us all being at one table. The buffet is the way to go. It's only a few extra dollars from the menu and it's all inclusive. I will say the waffle was killer. I ordered it as a buffet item and when it came out my entirety team asked about me about the waffles because.....that smelled amazing like authentic Belgian waffles. The waffles were sweeter than excepted with a light dusting of powder sugar......served with real male syrup. In Maine they call it "wicked awesome"! read more

I travel for work so I'm always in hotels & restaurants. I've come to this restaurant 3 times in 3 days cause of snow and bad weather, every time a horrible experience, allow me to recount my experiences. 1. Came for breakfast and the greeter an African-American woman was extremely rude and loud told me to me to come back in 2 hours or go somewhere else . 2. Second time had the breakfast buffet, worse buffet I've ever had and have spent the last 20years traveling . Fruit was spoiled for the most part , omelette made with cheap oil so tasteless and service very poor and you will receive check while eating . 3. Due to snow and schedule I had to eat dinner here , I got sat down and water quick but had to wait 30mins for waitress to acknowledge me I first ordered the duck confit pad Thai which they were out of then ordered roasted turkey with jasmine rice which they were also out of . Ended up w a chicken thigh and greens . This place hasn't shut the doors cause it's in a nice hotel the Marriott so it will probably always have its travel weary dinners but not repeat customers I can assure you of this . read more

My wife and I are staying here at the Marriott Marquis for three days for a convention and so far we have tried this place for breakfast once and dinner once. I will be brief about the breakfast. The eggs and toast were okay, although the eggs were a little overcooked. The yogurt, fruit and granola was a very good combo, nice and fresh and good ingredients. The only big downer about breakfast was that it took a really long time to get our food and the place was not at all busy at the time. Okay, now the dinner experience. Service was fantastic, attentive without being rushed. The cocktails are good and the selection of bourbons is really nice, they not only have Blanton's but Michters as well, both of which I really like. They also have a pretty decent selection of wines too. My wife and I both had the trout which was fantastic and cooked perfectly. I enjoyed everything on the plate, the lentils, grilled cauliflower, the sauce, and the roasted grapes which added a nice touch of sweetness. overall a very good dish. We paired this with a few glasses of a nice sauvignon blanc and it was really a great meal. I highly recommend this place, especially if you are staying at the hotel. UPDATE: We had dinner again last night and I took a shot at the papardelle pasta with rabbit. The rabbit was nice as was the sauce on it and the accompanying mushrooms. However, the dish was 80+ percent pasta that was way too thick and way underdoneb yuck! So we both ended up with the pork shank which was nice, very much like a really good, hearty bean soup with lots of tender pork. Overallb not a terrible experience but that pasta was kind of a downer. A colleague and I had breakfast here before attending the IMTS and like many hotel restaurants, it's 'ok.' I do feel a little guilty reviewing a breakfast buffet in a hotel restaurant because I realize it's one of those things that is difficult to consistently get right, but it was $22, and you do expect a certain amount of value for a $22 buffet. The highlight of the buffet was by far the bacon, which was thick cut and nice and crispy. There's a special place in hell reserved for people that like limp bacon, and the cooks that prepare it, if you weren't aware. The low point of the buffet was by far the mushroom and egg frittata, which made me think of a greasy hockey puck. The biscuits in the biscuits and gravy were not fully cooked and the sausage in the sausage gravy (I'm assuming that was sausage) tasted like hot dogs. You'll have to forgive me, but I'm from the south, where we know wtf is up when it comes to biscuits and gravy. This seemed like a thinly veiled imposter. There was a nice cold meat and cheese selection which was unfortunately empty for most of the time we were in the restaurant, and the pastry selection was good. Our server was very nice and helpful in the beginning to assist us with drinks and deciding between the menu and the buffet. However, the empty plate from my first trip to the buffet sat on the table for an unreasonable amount of time after I returned to sample the meats and cheeses. This wouldn't normally be an issue, but the table was a fairly small two-top that could not easily accommodate three plates. I realize this last point is fairly picky, but it helps sum up an overall very mediocre experience at Woven + Bound. If you're staying at the Marriott Marquis and are looking for a convenient breakfast, you will be ok giving this place a shot. If you're a local or staying somewhere else around Chicago, I would keep looking. Here's to hoping lunch and dinner are better. read more

The food is excellent, but (as others say) the service is terrible. There aren't enough servers! Hostess nowhere to be found, servers take forever to take your orders and bringing the bill. I had the catch of the day, which was fantastic. My wife had the scallops which were also very good. Unfortunately we won't be coming back because there isn't any reason to frequent a place with slow service in an area with such great options. Go to VU! Go to Cafe Bionda! Heck, Reggie's has better service and they're all high most of the time. I would expect it to be better with how good the food is. ALSO: the stall in the men's bathroom is great if you want to expose yourself to other men, but is probably terrible for everyone else. It has a 1.5-2 inch gap (literally) between the frame and the door. Think about that for a second and wonder why that would exist at a place built like 2 years ago. read more

Stopped for drinks here after dinner before heading up to pack our bags after a tiring work trip. One of my colleagues asked the bartender what kind of martinis they have. He replied very condescendingly "vodka and gin." She then asked if they had any specialty martinis or different flavors. He then named several (which he could have done right away instead of trying to be Captain Obvious). Her martini was absolutely pure vodka with a little flavor added. It literally burned lips, and several of us tried it because we couldn't believe how awful it was. Another customer ordered wine and we heard him say "we only have this one left and it's the most expensive." Just not the way to interact at all. Everyone seemed to be on his nerves. We were 6 people sitting at the bar together, and since we all were expensing our purchases we needed separate checks. The bar tender (same guy that made the terrible martini--dude with thinning hair and a kiss tattoo on his neck) was very unfriendly after we asked for our checks. Another poor customer walked up and rather than greeting her, he said (well within our earshot) "Just to let you know, what I have to do next is going to take a pretty long time." She said "I was just going to order a glass of wine." He shrugged and went back to our tabs. We would have had ZERO issue with him serving her glass of wine! I told him to just put all the drinks on my bill, and I said that we didn't want to make you have to do all that work, and he said "You're the GOAT!" And then he added sarcastically "that means the greatest of all time." Thanks, dick, I don't live under a rock. He was just so rude and condescending that it honestly put a dark cloud over what had been a fun night. Several more friends joined us and we cautioned them to order from another bartender. Literally as a bartender, your two most important jobs--be friendly and make good drinks. This guy was incapable of either on Saturday night. Very poor experience. read more
