Great spot to watch sports, but it is loud and when the door to the street opens there is quite a rush of air up the middle of the restaurant. We ordered drinks and food and Dana took great care of us. I had a bowl of the potato soup. It was delicious with the bacon chunks and side of Yorkshire pudding (which was meh). Hubby enjoyed his bangers and mash, and the rest of my Yorkshire pudding. Convenient location if you're staying in the hotel and want a quick bite of standard Irish fare.

The fish and chips were the highlight. The fish pieces were cut nice and thick, with enough substance that it felt like a proper plate instead of mostly batter. The roasted lemon was a small touch, but a good one. It made the dish feel a little more intentional and gave the fish a better lift than the usual wedge on the side. I also really enjoyed the bread pudding. It was rich, warm, and delicious, and the ice cream was not just decoration. It was needed to balance the dessert and keep it from getting too heavy. Service at the bar was attentive, which made the whole visit easy. I would not call it a destination meal, but for fish and chips, Guinness, dessert, and good bartenders near the Hilton/South Loop area, it did exactly what I wanted.

Warm and lovely British pub with delicious pies and efficient service…read more My dining partner and I tried the mushroom and kale and the rocking vegan pies. The mushroom and kale pie was nice and cheesy and the rocking vegan pie was more savoury, with a variety of vegetables and chickpeas as stuffing. The crust was neither too soft nor too crunchy. The highlight of the meal was the curry chips: potato wedges lightly fried with masala and curry leaves. The dipping sauce that came with the chips reminded me of tikka masala sauce, and paired beautifully with the chips. Dessert was toffee pudding: the caramel sauce that came with the pudding was delectable - the pudding itself was excellent and not overly sweet. We tried a variety of NA beers, and I was pleased with how many options they had. Service was quick, and we were well looked after. The ambiance is warm, with dim-ish lighting and a lot of dark wood. The restrooms were gorgeous - special shoutout to the lovely floral wallpaper. Overall, I highly recommend Pleasant House - the vibe is chill and understated and the food is stellar.

The sausage was very tasty, the breading on the outside was incredibly crisp, light, and the egg inside was cooked well. Both the steak pie and the chicken pie were very good. The chicken pie I think really needed the chutney that you can get separately. But that made it so much better and made it my preferred pie. The steak and ale pie was better than the chicken pie as a standalone, but needed a bit more gravy I think to elevate it. Sticky toffee pudding again was delicious. Surprisingly light, not overly dense so I was glad it came with the custard which was very flavorful. Overall, will definitely return!

We started with the poutine to share, and it was a solid appetizer. I especially loved the pickled onions on top, which added a nice tangy contrast to the rich gravy. For my entrée, I ordered the fish and chips and was pleasantly surprised by how large the pieces of fish were. The fish was flaky, fresh, and cooked really well, while the fries were nice and crispy. We ended lunch with the vanilla crème brûlée, which was a great way to finish the meal. It had a nicely caramelized sugar topping and was a solid dessert overall. I'd happily come back to try more of the menu.

Other reviewers are spot on about friendly staff, nice atmosphere, clean restrooms, noise not too overwhelming, lots of televisions to catch a game. We had the Buffalo Chicken Deviled Eggs every time we went. The idea doesn't make sense - but they were soooo good! We ordered the Fish & Chips on our first visit. We were not expecting to actually get potato chips. Didn't realize until later they have french fries here, but they decided to give us potato chips. Who serves potato chips as a default with Fish & Chips? Is this a Midwest thing? Each visit, they were out of tall boy PBRs. Guess they don't restock on holiday weekends. But they did have Old Style, so no harm.

Well this is the year! I was so excited that I was the 1st person in this morning. The bartender, Lisa was amazing. Just a quick PSA, before posting a picture of someone, please ask before posting! If you get a chance, please ask for her! Having read a previous review, I knew I had to have the Ruben! As you can see, it's piled high with corned beef! The fries were delicious! Trust me. There were other options but if you're a true Ruben fan, you'll order it whenever you get a chance. Total success! If you never heard of Man Vs. Food, one you missed a great show. The filmed an episode here! They knew what they were doing filming here! The staff is fantastic! The atmosphere was perfect! Not too loud which helps with the bar bantering. Stick a pin in this place and experience this place!
